  • +11

    Good posting. Thanks for deal.

  • +2

How come the gift card value drops $100 every month. Was $500 now down to $200

  • +2

Boost prepaid to telstra post paid no gift card. Ludicrous.

    • Boost is telstra without the advertising.

Might as well say telstra to telstra port no gift card?
      Ludicrous

      • +1

From my understanding, Boost is not Telstra and are an independently owned businesss. They do however have a deal with Telstra to work along side and leverage off their network and offerings.
Can only guess that its all about getting users who are not part of the Telstra network in any form to switch and in turn JB get their Telstra commissions?

        • +1

Seems telstra wholesale to telstra full is fine thpuoh as I took advantage of the free hisense tv offering a few months ago while switching from woolworths.

I'm porting out to vodafone this month in preperation forthe next good deal.

  • +1

Looks pretty good deal for a 12 months plan, seriously considering moving from Vodafone

    • +3

I made the switch back to Telstra today after 12 months on Kogan (vodaphone)… you won’t regret it!

      • funny you said that, I am on Vodafone and really happy overall - currently getting close to 40 Mbps on 4G, Wifey has Telstra and she is getting 26 Mbps speed.

        • +1

Hmmm I work in a place with lead lined walls and often got SOS.. possibly a black spot! But I agree, majority of time was alright when I wasn’t at work.

    • Was with belong kept dropping out, so I ported to Vodafone and it would drop when in shopping centre or under cover parking areas. Now back at Telstra and no issues.

  • +2

Quick question, if I sign up to this then decide I want to resign with Telstra with a handset would I be able to end this contract early?
    Thanks in advanced!

    • Great question. Hopefully someone can give us the correct info :)

      • … reposted after the OP

    • I would also like to know this

    • +2

      read the critical information pdf…
it works out to 50% of the monthly charges per mth remaining on the contract

      Maximum
      Early
      Termination
      Charges
      (ETC)

      12mth - $270
      24mth - $780

If you cancel, recontract or move to an ineligible plan then you
will need to pay a Phone Credit Cancellation Fee pro-rated
against the remaining months on your plan, the maximum of
which is set out in the table above. This is in addition to any
Early Termination Charges (ETCs) set out in the above table
      and accessory payments.

      • Thanks for going through the effort for me! Appreciate it :)

  • Good find OP

  • How best to get this as an existing Telstra customer?

    • Port out for 30 days. It's the only way if you want to keep your number

      • Has to be 30 days minimum? Is this shown in conditions anywhere?

        • Nfi. It's been mentioned in multiple Telstra deals

        • Depends who you speak to when initiating the contract.
Some have had success in getting the port-in bonus, I've been rejected twice for still being in the 30 day period.

          • @SuiCid3: Try JB HiFi at Broadway. A mate of mine 😉ported out of Telstra for 3 days, then back in no problem

            • @kierann: That was one of the places I got denied lol

    • Port out then port in…..simples

      • It is known how long you have to port out for?

        • Not sure there are rules but people on here (for other deals) have said they ported out in the morning then back in the afternoon for the deal.

        • Longer than this deal is valid for.
Port now and wait for the new deal next month.

      • -5

        That's what she said

        • Sounds like she port out?

  • -1

Think I'll port out now and grab this when it comes round again. 25% staff discount makes it pretty good.

    • -1

      25% staff discount?
      How to avail further 25%?

      • +1

        Work for Telstra.

  • +1

Belong is not excluded.. that's good.

    • Belong is excluded from JB Hifi in store, but seems not here.

  • +1

It's worth noting that current telstra customers can upgrade too but they do not get the $x voucher.

  • +2

Too bad international calling isn't included, and a calling pack can't be added (according to the link above). Otherwise might have jumped on this…

  • is there a student discount for telstra plan?

    • You'd be better off trying to get it on a business plan (if you have an ABN) and get the $5/$10 porting discount. They'll probably reject it, but worth a try. Got me an extra 10GB.

      Afaik no student discount exists.

  • +3

cashrewards should apply from what i can see

    • +1

can tightarse confirm? i notice when you go to the site, CR widget pops up and suggests it does but assume it's just the telstra.com domain… this would be a sensational sweetener if it does.

  • +1

Similar to this long running deal direct with JB Hi Fi:
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/407199
I've heard users have been able to abuse some weird ETC waive to get endless JB GCs. Which I do not encourage but up to you.

Besides that you should be able to Live Chat Telstra Rep after you sign up and ask for $10 port in credit that will be applied to the life of your contract.

    • +1

No more $10 port in I believe.
Got a resounding no from two reps today

      • Really? I just did it last week. Interesting.

        • I think it ended last week…
If I'm wrong someone please correct me I'll go and look for another rep haha

          • @diazepam: i tried last wk - was told it ended in may….

            • @spoonmugen: Read a lot of reports (here on OzB) that they seemed to have got it in the last few weeks so I certainly don't think that's true :(

              • @diazepam: where? all the chatter i've heard is that its gone….
ive asked 3 different occassions with telstra chat 24x7

happy if others got the deal and you can prove it wrong/link me to the deal though

                • @spoonmugen: yep gone.
few people were reporting it was working on the previous jb deal but I've tried asking many reps and to no avail.

If anyone else gets it working please report :)

                • @spoonmugen: A friend literally did it Thursday.

                  • @JoJoker: The port-in credit has ended, AFAIK there are no current deals for $10 until recontract. Got a discount on my plan but in Siebel it shows as 12 months only

                    • @Optussux: Was on 24x7 and asked about the $10 port in discount. Was told that it's still available

                      • +1

@mengqing: Ongoing $10 port in credit ended for all new plans launched in June and where replaced with a $5/$10 credit with a 6/12 month duration as the new plans are all casual with no fixed term which made the ongoing $10 credit redundant (like my job 😂)

As the JB plans are a different plan family with a contracted term you might be able to get a $10 ongoing credit still. (I would be pretty confident the system would let it be added it but it would be against business rules)

Source: worked for Telstra until recently

                      • @mengqing: do you have the log? would like to try my luck again lol

  • Good deal, I got this last year in store at JB.
The restriction on gift cards for Boost customers was around last time too. From memory you had to be on another provider for a minimum of a month to be eligible for the gift card; less than that and they would see you in their system as being too recently on Telstra. (However, comments in the old thread suggested some people had luck with JB salespeople who put it through for them regardless so YMMV).

  • Is it true that the reception is on these JB Hi-Fi plans is not the same as an 'actual' Telstra direct plan? If you can buy direct from Telstra, that's great.

    • +2

Im not sure where you heard that. My plan (purchased in store last year) is a full telstra plan (im billed by telstra not JB, have telstra online access etc. All JB did was initiate the port and I assume get a small cut. Reception is fine and a speed test I just did then (6.25pm) was 174mbps down 50.7up with 27ms ping - so Id assume thats the full 4Gx network.

    • No, not true, they’re using the full telstra network. Had a telstra chat rep tell me jb only gets 20% of the network, I lodged a complaint and the complaints team assured me it’s the full network

    • Jb is just a reseller of telstra plans, you are on telstra's 4gx network.

    • I remember when there was a jb deal last time heaps people said its not true telstra

      • Trump disease? Seriously tho, no surprise there. Heaps of accurate and useful info on OzB but also quite a bit of shyte.

  • I took up the Good Guys $60 plan last week, would it be possible to downgrade my plan for free?

    • Possibly, go to the link and select to “upgrade” your existing service, see if says there is an ETC

    • Yes will work.
      Just use live chat 24x7.

I downgraded to $50/m for free.

  • +4

    Pass no international calls.

  • This plan just restarted? Thought it's been since last year?

  • The Telcos continue to refer to "Bonus Data" without mentioning how long it might last or what might cause it's removal.

Is it bonus for a limited period or for however long one sticks with the plan?

    • Usually its for the duration of the contract so 12 months in this case

  • Probably get downvoted for this but is this available in store? I am guessing no since the link takes me to the Telstra website but it’s worth an ask.

    • In store at JB HIFI yes.

      • What about a Telstra store?

        • Nope

      • Do we know if that one has an expiry date? I don't want to sign up before August 25 but I definitely do in October sometime..

  • This deal has been live for over a year now. And from what they told me when I signed up for it, it will be available until Telstra let them do something better

  • what phone do we get with the contract? A 3G Nokia or a ZTE ?

    • +1

You get a sim card and laughed at when you ask them for a phone too.

  • Good deal if you need all that data.

    • Agreed; I am satisfied with my Belong $10/month (+50GB rollover).
This plan works out to be $28.33/month ($45/month plan min. cost $540 - $200 JB giftcard)
I use wifi mostly, so the Belong rollover will last me 12 months

      • I’m satisfied with Kogan and catch in my family. We have 4 sims amongst us (2 adults and 2 teenagers) and by paying upfront it costs me the equivalent of $45 a month for 4 sims, with 13gb each on 3 kogan and 17gb on catch. Next year will be even cheaper as catch have upgraded the $135 ($270 full price) with 150gb. That plan is very hard to beat imo. If you don’t need Telstra and live in metro no point paying more

        • +1

I like paying extra for watching the AFL and having the best coverage Australia wide

  • +2

For anyone willing to try, I just contacted chat to see if I could get some bonus data thrown in for free (because my NBN has been on the fritz and I need some extra data this weekend). Long story short, 'Richard' offered to change my plan from $59 plan (with Telstra), ending this November, to the $45 plan without any cancellation fees and INCLUDING the JB voucher!
So all in all, I've extended my contract for 9 months, saving $14 per month, and getting 2.5x my data!
    Win.

    • Anyone else replicated this ?

    • I'd be interested to see if you actually get the voucher. I was told that if I made a business account and ported my consumer number over that I would definitely get the gift card. However, I've now been told by 5 people and 2 JB people that this isn't correct and I won't be eligible for the gift card as an existing telstra number WON'T receive it.

…so I'm hoping you get yours!

      • Yeh it might be too good to be true. Time will tell. I need to go in store to find out. YMMV
