        • What about the blue tint at angles. Overall you seem pretty happy with the phone yeah?

          • @bisaya: I'd never actually noticed it until you mentioned it. It's only apparent when you have a light background and turn the phone more than 30 degrees (vertically or horizontally). But lets face it, why would you do that. I guess it might be noticeable for someone sitting next to you who might be watching, but other than that, not an issue.
And yeah the phone is brilliant. For $400 you won't find better. I wasn't a fan of the default LG launcher but I can highly recommend the "Rootless Pixel Launcher":
            https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=amirz.rootless…
Combined with a Dark theme it looks sweet and behaves exactly like a Pixel3.

Does anyone have a link to the 5 day madness catalogue? I can't find it.

    • +1

I'd rather pay the premium and get it from a local seller with local warranty / consumer protections. That seller only has 96.6% feedback, bit sketchy.

  • +5

you can get an additional 10% buy buying 4 x $100 JBHI FI gift cards…

    linked to cards on ebay
    https://www.ebay.com/itm/JB-Hi-Fi-Gift-Card-30-50-or-100-Ema…

Brings the total price down to $360

  • Is it worth paying extra to get the G7 or the V40?

    • Camera on v40 is better, I probably will wait and get it next year v40, for about the same price.

  • Love my Moto G. Apart from the apparently super camera in the One Vision, any other reasons to upgrade?

    • Hmmm do you think if we go in store we act hesitant they'll throw in a free USB-C cable or something instead of ordering online straight away? Or maybe ringing around different stores to see if can get an extra offer? Don't the guys work on commission?

Or if we go through the process of ordering but just leave our email address JB Hi-fi will give an abandoned cart offer?

LG reminds me of bootlooping issues - never again. Even Xiaomi phones are better.

    • +7

Ding ding ding ding ding! Congrats for highlighting the bootloop issue. You win!

      • Ok. No problem :D
As I was saying, it's a very good bargain. Bought that, and didn't know what to do then! So, I sold it :)))

Want more story? Come tomorrow night again. Listen closely while u r sucking it. There will be no repetition. Haha

  • Reno Z or LG V30+?

    • +1

I opted for the Reno Z over this as I'm not a fan of rear fingerprint scanners and am pretty impressed with it. You need to work out what feature(s) you prefer and make your decision from that.

      • I really wish I went with Reno Z now.

ttkc, go with reno z. Being stuck on Android 8.0 is demoralising and the front camera sucks lol

        • Is there something that you're using and is absent in this version of android? Just curious.

    • Funny thing is I talked to the staff at JB and he didn't recommend V30+ at this price and said to get the reno for $100 more if I want something around that price range

      • +1

Probably because the markup is higher and he would make more commission on the sale.

  • +1

Upgrading from s7 edge, what's everyone's thoughts about the LG vs the Motorola? To me as a tech layman the Motorola is newer, has bigger screen for the extra 50?

    • I'm considering the V30+, coming from my current S7 Edge as well. My wife had a motorola phone about 12 months ago, I forget the model, but it was horrible. Battery was really weak and it would take forever to boot up. It would also randomly reset itself. She RMA'd it but the replacement did the same thing.. She just dealt with it a little longer before buying an Oppo R15.

Anyway, I'm replying here to advise against anything motorola, and to ask the same question as you - has anyone upgraded to the V30+ from an S7 Edge?

      • I've had the phone almost a day now. I would not recommend it to anyone even for the price.

The software and front camera really lets it down. It's stuck on Android 8 for the time being as the Pie update got pulled due to issues. The fingerprint sensor location is also not ideal after being so used to front fingerprint sensors.

I'm convinced that the Mi 9T or the Reno Z would be better than this phone. Also if you can stretch the budget, go for the OP 7 when it's around $600 on sale.

        • Thanks for the comments bisaya. My S7Edge is also running Android 8, so the V30+ may not be an upgrade in that sense.
I never use the front camera on my phones, but I listen to heaps of spotify and mp3 music, which is why I thought it might be a good (albeit slight) upgrade.
The fingerprint on the back could be a pain though.. I use my phone in the car holder for GPS and with the V30 I'd therefore need to take it out of the holder to unlock the screen = illegal..

          • @axloz: You can use face unlock for normal use.

The fingerprint is mainly a pain for finance apps that require pin or fingerprint.

            • @bisaya: Ah, now there's a feature I hadn't thought of!

My banking apps don't get used in the car, so the fingerprint scanner shouldn't be a bother after all.

What phone were you using prior to this?

              • @axloz: I went Nexus 5 -> iPhone 6s (2015) -> Moto Z Play (few weeks) -> iPhone 6s -> V30+

Still trying to get used to android again

          • @axloz: Or even better, use "Smartlock" to ensure the phone doesn't lock when connected to your cars bluetooth.

        • That's very disappointing to hear. I didn't know the PIE update had been pulled. I only used Oreo for a day before the PIE update came out and yeah, it wasn't great. I don't know why the PIE update was pulled, I haven't had any issues with it whatsoever. You can apparently force the update following this guide:
          https://www.mylgphones.com/australia-lg-v30-h930ds-gets-andr…
Also, if you don't like the LG launcher, give the "Rootless Pixel Launcher" a go. It's so much better. Just make sure to install the "Pixelbridge" component to get the "Google Now Feed" (right-swipe) and "At a Glance":
          https://amirzaidi.github.io/bridge.html

        • +1

I've had mine for around a week now and couldn't be happier with it for the price.
I'm used to LG's though so the rear finger print sensor is ideal for me. I'm in the habit of putting my finger right there when I pick up/grip the phone so it's convenient for me. Mine also updated to Pie a couple of days ago but I think I prefer Oreo. Other than that's it's very snappy for a phone that's essentially a couple of years old in tech/hardware and battery life is beyond excellent.

  • What production date did everyone get for the LGV30+? I got 16/07/19.

    • that's awesome. Is it possible to check on the box or not

    • out of interest, why is that important? I dont disagree that more recent is better, just wondering if you know something I dont :)

      • Dial:
        *#06#

        When you have IMEI number:

        Enter it into:
        http://www.imeipro.info/check_lg.html

        • i think you can get IMEI from outside packaging too? or maybe just from sticker on the phone…?

          • +1

@swampson: Yes, there's a sticker on the box. I checked my IMEI before I bought.

            • @aldroid: may i ask the reason why you wanted to check IMEI/date of manufacturing? as i said above, I dont disagree that more recent is better, just wondering if you know something I dont :)

              • +1

@swampson: I was not going to buy a phone with a 2 year old battery. And I suspect there may have been other minor manufacturing improvements since it was originally launched.

                • @aldroid: good points - makes sense on both counts!
i suppose LG have not been too sharing with manufacturing improvements over time, but it would be nice to think that they have been made

        • Thanks. May 2019 sweet

        • My phone comes up as Dec 2017….. bought in May 2018.
          Still going strong.

        • July 15th 2019

      • You have to buy your phone a Birthday Cake.
        (It's in the fine print).

Has anyone found any good cases with screen protectors on eBay? Recommendations?

    • +1

Oops, I'll try again without the eBay link.
I can highly recommend the Nillkin frosted shield cases. They are thin, strong and have a good, grippy textured back.
I gave up on screen protectors. Tried a few tempered glass and polymer types but wasn't at all happy with the fit due to the slightly curved edges.

      • hey mate is there a pm system you can send that to me? I'd really like a good case and the frosted shield looks like a good idea

      • Me 2 please

  • would you replace a 2 year old pixel 2 with this phone?

    • +2

aside from v30's bigger screen, better audio with h/phone jack, more storage, maybe better battery life, no it's not worth replacing a pixel 2 with a v30

  • Unfortunately I just missed out on the 10% JB Hifi Gift cards via Ebay UK this morning. Are there any other ongoing deals to get discounted JB Hifi gift cards then ?

  • Should I buy the new Samsung s10 plus 512gb for $1400 or a 1 year old used iPhone Max 512gb for $1600?

    • +2

If you dont care about the OS, go with the S10 Plus.

If you don't care about latest/greatest, go with the V30+

If you are bored with Android, try iPhone

    • If your going to get the iphone, wait until at least a week after the iphone 11 and 11 pro launch and last gen will drop in price on the used market

  • Got one, thank you OP.

  • If I want to get this phone for just the rear cameras is it worth $400?

    • Here's some photos from my LG v30.
      https://imgur.com/a/Jp55Gkg

      • Thanks! Is that with stock or gcam? Also hows the focusing with it? I currently have a LG K10 and it has a really hard time focusing if its not really bright

        • +1

Not sure, but I think these were all the stock cam (I have both Stock and GCam but only rarely use the GC.)
Focusing is rarely a problem, and you can touch to focus to focus/meter on specific areas as well.
(You can also switch to manual focus if you like, then focus with the slider.)
Additionally, I think the v30 has a laser AF illuminator which may help with low light.
The wide angle cam is a fixed focus lens, so that will always be fast to capture with.

    • For better camera you may consider xiaomi mi 9 for a little more price.

      https://www.dxomark.com/xiaomi-mi-9-camera-review/

Got it for $344. 5% gift card and TRS

    • Kudos. Way to go. :-)

To all V30+ owners; I just received an OTA update for a Sept security patch (Version: V30c-SEP-02-2019) about 750MB in size. I was one of the lucky ones who got the PIE update before LG decided to pull it. Just wondering if this means they have now re-released the PIE update. For those of you stuck on OREO it might be worth checking. If not available via OTA you should try LG Bridge.
    The update says:
    What's new
    * Phone usability and functionality has been further improved
Haven't noticed anything different. Too early to tell if battery life has been improved. Unfortunately it doesn't look like the front camera has been improved.

    • they haven't re-released pie for the V30+

I've unlocked my bootloader (so in future I can flash LineageOS) and updated to AUS LG Stock Pie

      To unlock bootloader:
      Following https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=76584629&pos…
      I reverted back to H930DS20b_00_OPEN_AU_DS_OP_0530.kdz (pre-July 2018 oreo required to flash unlock.bin)
      Followed instructions to flash new_unlock.bin
Then used LGUP to update to H930DS30a_00_OPEN_AU_DS_OP_0725.kdz (AUS v30+ pie)

      • +1

Mine updated OTA to Pie yesterday afternoon.

  • +1

Downloaded V30c Pie on my primary V30+ and my initial impression is that is running more smoothly on my V30+ (I had downloaded Pie previously when it was briefly available on the LG servers in August) and my RAM usage is down from 67% to 54%.

I've fired up my second V30+ bought under this deal and have LG bridge running on it - downloading V30c Pie on that one as we speak.

  • Another LG failure for me. Not major, but a pain in the ar.. As with my primary V30+ all home screen personalised settings were lost on this second V30+ (I guess I was unlucky), so I gotta sit here and plug them all in again. Bugger. Apart from the good deal here on the V30+ - that was my only complaint buying a second one. Love these phones. Can't beat the quality at this price point!

  • Even though this deal is marked as expired it is still listed for $399 at JB Hi-Fi. I suspect his will be the new everyday price until stock sells out.

  • +1

Overall a good phone and excellent $.

Just added the pie update and it is much more enjoyable.

    • How are you finding the V30+, still fast and snappy for a 2 year old phone? With the new pie update?

  • Is there another round of price reduction when pixel 4 is presented?

  • NOTE: the V30 does NOT have a removable battery.
I currently have the V20 and had it for 2 years, great phone, but after a year, the battery capacity drops to 65%.
YOU HAVE TO REPLACE the battery every year.

I also went over buying replacement batteries online and they were all fakes. Had to find and purchase an LG genuine OEM battery. my V20 phone is lasting a full day with heavy use, not a problem.

I looked at getting the V30 but when I saw that has non-replaceable battery, I changed my mind.

Please, if anyone knows otherwise, please let me know.
Can I open the V30 in a year and change the battery without affecting waterproofing?

    • just saw this video, just not sure how waterproofing is affected.
      https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=419&v=SjNkmiyi9C…

    • I don't see it being too big of an issue, most places will replace batteries cheaply if it no longer holds it's charge but like changing the battery in a watch, any time you open the case you risk affecting it's waterproofing.

A while back I used to have a G5 with removable batteries and would go thru 2-3 of them a day. With my V30 and essentially the same usage I haven't been under 50% at the end of a long day. Like any battery, performance will drop over time but not being user replaceable isn't a big issue to me.
You've also go li-ion vs li-po if you believe in that…

  • Guys who own this phone, Android 9 update just got released!! Update now looks great

  • I'm using a Pixel 2 now, is it worth changing to the V30+? The price is very tempting!

    • I've never used the pixel 2xl or 2, but my guess would be that with the CPU and screen being very similar, your benefit would depend on whether you personally value the other differences as useful:

Smaller dimensions all round, with less bulk and screen bezel
      Lighter weight
      Headphone jack and quad DAC
      Wireless charging
      Dual SIM
      SD card support
      Additional wide angle camera
      LG UX

      https://www.kimovil.com/en/compare/google-pixel-2-xl,lg-v30-…

  • Does anyone know when the deal will expire? I cant find it in the current catalogue and neither does it say on the website. Ta

    • I found this from their site
      https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/lg-v30-128gb-handset-blac…

Now only shows $399, doesnt list it as a price drop any more

      • dang it went back to full price then :(

        • yeah i just noticed that this morning too.
I have one paid for, but waiting pickup at the Strand Arcade store in Syd… i am hoping they still have it held for me….

          • @swampson: Haha I should have done that.. I thought it was regular price so I was waiting till the weekend… Ill still ask tomorrow if they can still do it
