100k-150k Qantas FF Points @ Citi VISA Signature Qantas Credit Card, $5K Spend in 90 Days; $49 First Year Fee

3883

Looks like Citi are offering a decent deal on their Signature QFF VISA card again.

This deal offers:

100,000 QFF points with a $5,000 minimum spend in the first 90 days. Reduced annual fee of $49 in the first year; and

50,000 QFF points upon paying the $444 annual fee for the second year (annual fees, particularly of that magnitude, are not to my tastes but each to their own).

Card also provides travel insurance, and two lounge passes p.a. via Priority Pass.

Again, that $444 annual fee in the second year is a whopper. But happily there is no obligation to stick around for the second year, so deliberate thoroughly on how badly you want those additional 50,000 QFF points.

I posit that this deal is superior to the previously posted deal on account of the reduced annual fee in the first year. But perhaps comparable to this earlier deal.

Earn Rates

1.00 Qantas Point per $ Domestic Spend (Major Airlines, Hotels and Restaurants)
0.75 Qantas Point per $ Domestic Spend (Major Supermarkets, Petrol Stations, retailers)
0.50 Qantas Point per $ Domestic Spend (All Other)
1.00 Qantas Point per $ International Spend

With the economy slowing down and abounding speculation of an imminent recession, there's never been a better time to accumulate personal debt. Onwards!

Those who do not have a Qantas Frequent Flyer account can get free membership from one of the free membership deals here.

NOTE: The random referral system is for a different card - Citi Rewards Platinum. Please don't use the referral link if you're applying for the card in this deal, which is the Citi VISA Signature Qantas Credit Card.

  • Ah, can't decide if I should take the gamble or not. I was recently declined by AMEX and don't want to have too many enquiries show up. On the other hand, my gut tells me Citibank wants higher risk applicants.

    • Go for it. Life is short what are you afraid of.

    • +1

If you were declined by amex, i'd suggest you just straight up avoid this altogether.

      • @jaystea - Thanks for the suggestion.

I think I'll hold off applying for a few months.

  • Submitted my application and think everything went well as in uploading the documents and managed to be conditionally approved but haven’t received any emails from Citibank.

  • The URL for the Qantas Rewards Signature card is different to the Non-Qantas rewards Signature card.
The code on the end of the URL is different.

    Qantas Rewards
    https://www.citibank.com.au/accope/index.html#accope?pcode=V…
    Non-Qantas Rewards
    https://www.citibank.com.au/accope/index.html#accope?pcode=V…

  • How long does it take to receive the confirmation email? I was told the application was approved after submitting, but like many others the form afterwards to uploading supporting documents was blank. I pressed finish and now I'm just waiting for the email to be sure.

    • +1

To me I applied on the same day the deal was posted and received the card yesterday.

      • Ah okay. Did you manage to successfully upload any documents? How long did it take for the application status to show up as approved?

And re. my original post, I got an email now that lets me check my application status, but the status is only "Submitted" so dunno if the "you've been approved for your requested credit limit" message that I got while filling in the application meant anything.

        • +1

If you were told your application was approved, then you are approved.
It only took a couple of days for me to get the approval email. I did not submit documents so I guess that makes the process quicker.

  • Applied today. Approved today. Awaiting cards. Time will tell with how diligent they are with points.

  • Reckon I should give it a crack if I last week got a home loan, and a credit card with it?

  • I got approved after submitting additional information via email. Hope I got the right card with the QFF once the card arrive for me to activate fingers crossed

  • Just wondering if anyone got the sign up bonus from previous citi deal?

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/456908

I spent $4000 within the first month and just got my second statement but no points just yet, someone in that post got their points with the 1st statement.

Feels like dealing with citibank is always going in circle, they are hopeless.

    • Have you check your name in CB vs Qantas? People got delay due to name not matched between two systems.

I got my points few days after first statement.

      • Yes the name matches, the qantas points from purchase did credited into my FF account but sign up bonus is no where to show, guess going to have to wait another month, the thing is I’m running out cards to churn, the $15000 on credit file does not look good and I got rejected by ANZ for frequent flyer black card because of this card, these days those black card have ridiculous minimum limit.

    • Yes I did. Give it a bit more time it should come through.

      • What’s the format of your QFF name on the Citibank portal under Rewards>Modify Details? Does it match your QFF account name exactly?

They’ve got a random string of my name of “LAST NAME,FIRST NAME,DR” for mine and that doesn’t match my QFF account name.

I’m afraid that that might cause issues with getting my QFF credited at the end of the month.

    • i got the bonus days after the first statement was generated! I hadn't even paid it yet, surprisingly

      • What’s the format of your QFF name on the Citibank portal under Rewards>Modify Details? Does it match your QFF account name exactly?

  • Do I have any chance of getting this card with 60K income? I know the requirement is 75K, but are they fussy about it?

  • i got declined as well. I have income of 75k but their minimum credit limit was 15k. Way too high. Hence why i got declined i think.

  • Am I right that it's best to cancel after the $5k spend and the 100k qff points are awarded? I.e. not much value in waiting for the 1 year anniversary and annual fee for an extra 50k points (and 2 more lounge passes).

    • for most people, yes.

  • Citi is quite random in who they decide to decline.

I first applied for a Citi card over 3 years ago, never having owned a Citi or Citi backed (e.g. Virgin Money, Qantas) card and received my first (and to date only) declined status update for my application. I had avoided them all these years until I went back for their Virgin Money CC recently. Unfortunately the customer service was still abysmal and I had no choice but to cancel the card within weeks of getting it…

TLDR: Citi has horrible CS, enter at your own risk.

  • Apparently even though you put in the QFF number during application, you still have to call them to get it onto your account!

  • Got declined by the web, let alone by person/CS.
Its not fair they asking for combined credit limit (way too high with Mrs') as I didnt intend to apply for additional cards. Plus my case is a bit complicated when it comes to "rentvesting"; looks like my expense way too high.
Anyhow reading comments here I dont think I dont miss much

    • shouldn't it balance out as you have income from the rental property?

      • Yeah I put them as well but I dont know what method they checked as people mentioned here, anyhow one more thing I can think of is I cancelled the Signature card (not qantas) 2-3 years back.
Thinking to reapply in next 2-3 months but I think I wouldnt bother

i got rejected on the last offer despite being high income earner and perfect credit score :-/ , never applied citibank card before still got rejected. Their rejection hurt my credit score so pissed off. As a result i'm too afraid to apply to any citibank card offer

St George also caused me trouble before so glad they went under

Applied on Friday, got approval yesterday. Card in transit. Card approval Email doesn’t mentions “qantas “, just Rewards signature. Called them to confirm it’s Qantas not rewards , CS confirmed its Qantas, and confirmed my Qantas account number too.

Meanwhile they have issued first statement for 1 day of usage, no charges though. Statement also says signature rewards, no mention of Qantas.

CS has confirmed twice that it’s qantas offer and qantas card.

So is there a consensus on whether ATO payments are included in the minimum spend?

    • Need to know this as well

Contacted them via online banking message

      • +1

Just confirmed that it is included.

    • how do you pay ATO with a credit card?

    • +4

Just an update, ATO payments definitely included, met my minimum spend using the ATO payments and received bonus points for it!

      • What is ATO payments if you don't mind asking?

  • Does anyone know if spending using your linked diners card count towards $5000 requirement?

    • "Cash Advances, Balance Transfers, refunds, chargebacks, Special Promotions and spend on a Linked Diners Club Card do not contribute to the spend threshold"

  • Hi all,

I have an interesting question and unable to find an answer anywhere. I'm currently working in Canada and would like to build my Qantas points back up as it is cheaper for me to fly home and visit.

Any idea if a Canadian income would be a reason to reject the application? I imagine the banks would reject an application as their pursuit to chasing debt is limited.

    Thank you!

    • Yep, you'll need australian pay slips

      • Damn, that sucks but it does make sense. Cheers!

I signed up to the Qantas Signature card, very weary of all the previous comments about how it's a lottery whether you are signed up for the standard signature card or qantas one.

I definitely put my QFF number in during the application process.
When I get approved via email, no mention of the Qantas version of the card or promo.
When I get my card in the mail, no mention of the Qantas version or promo. This is like what others have said above.

When I set up my Citibank account for the card, I couldn't see any mention of the Qantas version of the card or the promo. Well, to the phone I go!

The call centre rep was super helpful and reassured me that even though their system did not sign me up to the Qantas Signature, he would put my QFF number in now and make sure I got the 100,000 points promo with no annual fee.

So make sure you call up to confirm you're on the Qantas Signature promo!
He mentioned that you would need to have put in your QFF number during the application process to be on Qantas Signature, to which I told him I definitely did. He said that's strange that the system didn't save it 🤦‍♂️

    • yep done the same thing! except I didn't get asked about my QFF number. But the rep put it in for me and reassured me it's he Qantas Card that I got and will be eligible for the 100k points

      • So even if you put in QFF number during application, it may or may not be saved by their system?

Always need to call them to confirm?

  • Any idea how long it takes to receive the card after approval?

    • +1

Took me under 2 working days to get my card: approved on Wednesday, got the card in the mail on Friday. I'm in Sydney

    • Approved on 10 Oct, and even though I already got the 1st statement on 11 Oct, still haven't received the card as of 16 Oct…

  • can't login to online banking - pretty annoying
registered ok, and when logging in it just tells me
"I'm sorry. I don't recognize the information you entered."

But when i use an incorrect password it tells me the password is incorrect, so i definitely have the right username/password

So I go and do a 'forgot password', reset my password, and still get the same ""I'm sorry. I don't recognize the information you entered." when entering my new password. Now if I enter my old password, i get a password is incorrect, so i definitely have the right password!

citi support are useless, they just keep saying it should work and that i must have the wrong password. and that i must've reset it wrong! Gah! So they completely deleted my account and asked me to try again another day. Did that - same error! Asked them, they told me I mustn't be remembering my password correctly, and to try writing it down! So annoying!

did anyone else's online registration go this smoothly???

  • As above posters, no mention of QFF on the card but agent on the phone confirmed the card is enrolled in to direct earn with QFF and quoted my QFF number to me.

  • What's the minimum income required to get this card?
EDIT: found the answer. looks like it's $75K.

  • I just got off the phone with Customer Service and he was not very convincing.

I already have a Signature Rewards no annual fee card and wanted to know if I was eligible, he couldn't say "Yes" directly and keep referring me to the website to read though the T&C's. I cant find anything on the T&C's about ineligibility if you are an existing Citibank customer or if you currently hold a Signature Rewards card.

Could someone confirm if I am still eligible for this promotion/bonus points?

  • +1

Got declined to my surprise (never been declined a CC in my position) Credit score ~800 and more than 150% the income requirement. Was my first ever product application to Citi or an underwritten product from Citi.

    • +1

They seem hard to get an approval for. I'm in a similar position to you but got approved. However have 10+ years transaction account which has been my primary bank account so I guess they would have a pretty solid idea of my finances.

I did find it weird that during the application they asked nothing of cash savings in the bank though.

      • In my experience if you hold money with the Bank/have your salary deposited into one of their accounts (6months or more) you will be accepted for pretty much anything and they don't ask for any proofs.

  • +1

Anyone experience this? I started the initial application but did not submit, however I got a credit inquiry on my records, anyone have this issue?

    • +1

Happened to me, apparently its in the T&C at the bottom that you agree that they will do a credit check prior to submission. First I've ever come across. Originally I got about half way through the application but decided not to go through, only to get an email from my credit file saying there had been activity. Low and behold there was an inquiry. Called up about it and apparently its part of the Ts and Cs. (and so it is on the first page). At that point I just submitted it as the inquiry was already there…. Bit shady IMHO.

      • +1

Well it happened with the Amex Qantas Ultimate too, they literally initiate the credit check after the 1st page

        • +1

Must be part of the new regulations…

    • +1

      Yep got this as well.

  • +2

Applied on 2nd October. Approved with a ridiculously high limit. I was a bit worried that I will be declined but all good so far. Account showing on internet banking already. First time dealing with Citi. Credit score is in 800s but I do churn cards. And jump on almost all good card deals posted here.

    • +2

Me too, i got approved in 24h - with an absolutely insane limit, will drop it down as soon as I receive my card.

My theory is that they always try to add an insanely high limit which is why a lot of people are getting rejected.

      • Out of curiosity, as a % of income what are we talking about when you say insane?

      • @Gmetal - Wouldnt they just assess you with the highest limit you can justify?

  • Does anyone know when this deal expires?

I recently applied for the St George Card and am working my way towards the minimum spend to be eligible for the 60k bonus points. Ideally, I'd want to apply for this card after I've satisfied the minimum spend with St George.

    • There is always an expiry date showing for almost all deals that posted here.

      Anyway, it's 31/Jan/20

  • Is there a referral link for this card if i want to refer a friend to sign up and get bonus points myself?

    • I contacted their helpdesk and they say not for the signature product.

  • How long did it take for you guys to get approved? Still waiting for mine from last week :(

    • same here abcd.

      • +1

        efg12345

    • I'm in the same boat - got a call last week asking me to email my most recent payslip which I emailed 7 days ago. Still no news on whether I'm approved or not

    • Mmm this is a bit annoying. Got a couple of purchases i need to make so want some news

    • +1

Have you tried calling? I didn't know my application was rejected until I called to check on my application, but heard an automated message that it was rejected. Proceeded through to talk to an actual person, he couldn't tell me anything, but was told I would receive a letter in the mail outlining why it was rejected. Still nothing in the mail, so don't hold your breath and give them a call.

      • +1

Yep. I called them yesterday and they just said it's still in process and would take 5-7 days.
Man I love amex and its instant approval

    • Update on mine: just got approved today. The whole process took 12 days from application.

  • Just wondering if anyone here that got the earlier Citibank Signature Qantas deal in May, got your points and cancelled the card and now re-apply for this deal?

    • same, would like to know too

  • Is the Citi Rewards Signature Credit Card that shows up on the website, the same as the Citi VISA Signature Qantas Credit Card (as mentioned by the OP as the one we should be going for?)

  • +3

Got decline for the first time ever… unsure why? my income and documents I submitted is over the 75k mark. Credit rating over 850+. Not a great first experience with Citibank

  • +1

Trying to decide whether to sign up now or wait a bit. I cancelled my Westpac (2 weeks ago) and Amex (yesterday) combo. I signed up to the St George Amplify card recently with a $5k limit and is the only credit card I currently own.

Checked my credit score and it still shows that my Amex card is 'open'. Does anyone know when it update and whether the banks can checked that its actually closed. The Westpac card shows that it's closed.

Reading the comments above, it seems that Citibank is very random in who they decide to approve/decline…

    • +1

I just did the same few days ago, cancelled Westpac and amex. I will apply for this one now

      • +1

Let me know how you go. Will be interested to know if Citibank will still see the Amex acocunt as active when they do their check.

        • +1

I cancelled AMEX and Westpac recently as well but showing as active on credit reports

      • let me know how you go? I am in a similar situation as well but I have $15k limit with St George

        • Applied yesterday morning and got approved in the evening. Set my credit limit at the minimum

  • +1

I applied over the phone on Thursday evening , approved on Friday midday , very fast process for me, now I'm waiting for the card. Maybe apply over the phone faster than online ,not sure.

  • I have the lifetime Citi Signature from the offer in 2014 and was approved for this card a week ago. Received it today.
The rep on the phone said that I'm eligible for the signup bonus.

    • An entire week to receive it?

  • So has anyone who managed to sign up and meet the minimum payment early enough managed to get the points yet? Or anyone who has experience with these Citi cards know if the points come after the first statement or some random time afterwards? I'm guessing it's not as fast or straightforward as the Amex ones.

    • I just got my 1st statement and all points inc bonus are showing on the statement - not in qantas yet tho ..

      • Points in Qantas.. Next..

  • +3

Just an update from my end - got the bonus points as soon as I got my first statement.

The minimum spend was done on goverment charges!!! So can confirm that it is included.

  • My bonus points hit my frequent flyer account within 2 days of getting the statement, extremely quick!

  • Got my bonus points showing in 1st statement which arrived today. Yet for them to appear in Qantas account. Will report back once received.
