  • +3

Said fully subscribed when I tried.

  • +3

Can people post when you get connected and report back on your initial speedtests? I would imagine this forum makes its way to whirlpool.net.au eventually.

    • yes keen to test it out against ABB with speedtests, pings and trace routes

      • +4

I do not think anybody has got connected yet, otherwise there would be some comments here

  • +5

I signed up yesterday. Have not hear from them.

    • Have you checked your spam folder?
      Thats where my email was

  • +1

Said fully subscribed too when I signed up.

  • +1

No word from them. Got a SMS yesterday:

Dear HERO, we are happy to report that your application to become a FibreMax HERO has been approved and we can have your FREE nbn service up and running in no time. We will be in contact soon. FibreMax nbn Sales Team

  • Hello FibreMax, I signed up, and have not heard anything.

What hours is the call centre open?

  • got a call from them confirming my address (my unit no. was missing), they said my FTTP service shud be up and running today

  • just got an email saying my account has been activated pending I pay the modem I requested which I don't think I did (I'm on FTTP). only then my service will be activated. I've replied back saying I don't need a modem and to have the service activated.

  • +3

I have received the following mail from them :

    Dear FibreMax® HERO,

Congratulations, your FibreMax® HERO account has been activated.
This is good news as we can have your FREE service up and running in no time.

You have indicated that you will require a modem.
We would like to ship your modem to your address as soon as possible.
Our modems are nbn™ ready and pre-configured to make installation of your nbn™ service very easy.

Simply plug the modem in and you're ready to go, no complex setups required.
Modems are provided to all members of the HERO Program at COST for $129 (Including setup and delivery).

You will be provided with an invoice today together with your account login details.
Please log into your account, go to the 'MAKE PAYMENT’ tab to make a secure payment.

Once payment is received, your modem should be at your place in 2-3 business days.
We will provision your nbn™ service at the same time.

** My doubt is —> $129 (:o) for the modem, is it worth it ?!
My place has never had an NBN connection, and its just 1 month since the area is "NBN ready". **

    • +1

I got the same, and earlier indications are that the modem is old and not worth it so I’m thinking of getting a modem elsewhere

      • +1

Which one ? Plz do share!
Even I don't wanna get this without knowing what it is n how it is.. n that too at such a high price ?!

    • What tech you on?

  • +1

Still waiting on email but SMS received

  • Hi Rep,
I received the approved SMS on wed 4pm but still no email or connection. What is ETA for the connection.

  • +1

So I got call and connection email. My modem has sync but the user name and password do not appear working. I must be one of the first. Will let you know. I'm on FTTN sync at 43.

Update - connected, needed to enable VLAN tagging. Didn't say that in anything I got.

Running on Vocus at about 30mbs compare to Aussie running at 39. So little slower but will run heaps of tests.

I'm going to load balance them and disable interfaces to do tests at different times

    • what do you get for:
      tracert ftw.simracer.me
      tracert azure.simracer.me

and do you have IP or CGNAT'd?

    • So you received a sms then a call then a connection email did the call and email happen just after connection or befor they connected you?

      • +2

I got nothing at all when I applied no SMS or email confirmation. Received a call today at midday asking if I was transferring my service I said no I want to use my spare line (I have two FTTN lines at my house). Hour later had sync then a simple email saying your active here is user name and password, nothing about settings etc.

I didn't receive the connection yet. I signed up on Wednesday. Got approval around Wednesday at 2pm. Anybody else got it?

    • +1

      Still waiting…

Got an email at 5pm aest. I have an asus router, hfc connection. I put the username and password, set vlan to 100 but no connection. Will give it another couple of hours since i guess its only recently been provisioned.

    • +2

Exact same issue but on fttp. Strange thing is I can ping to outside world from within rt ac68u but can't through my laptop wifi or ethernet cable

      • +2

and now it's working all of a sudden!

Speeds are great so far 46/19 it's going to get a workout this weekend for Singapore F1 gp

  • 8pm Perth time speeds:

    30/18 - los angeles
    47/17 - New York
    25/15 - London
    32/19 - Singapore
    10/15 - Berlin

  • How long will FTTN take to get connected?

  • Like others have mentioned I also got the fully subscribed message.

  • I got the SMS but no email, waiting patiently, working with mobile data at the moment while in limbo 😅

    • I got connected this morning! Speeds look decent at about 45/19.

  • Went to test and discovered I don't have a router with an option to set the VLAN ID.

    • What's your router? You should be able to find a cheapy off gumtree that has one.

  • I got SMS on Wednesday but nothing then after. Still waiting.
I am with ABB currently, will it be disconnected automatically when fibremax gets connected or I have to something?

    • +1

What are you on fttn fttp fttc hfc?

      • Fttn

        • Im guessing with FTTN you will only have 1 pair connected unless you ask for a second line hook up you will be automatically d/c from ABB or churned. I would still tell ABB to disc after it has been churned.

  • Will they connect on weekends?i don't think so. We need to wait till Monday.

Got an SMS to say signups limited to first 200.

    Be quick

    • +1

I went to sign up within 3 minutes, gave me
Unable to proceed to next step due to incomplete or unsuccessful service qualification
      Service LOCxxxxxxxxxxxx is not available
Not happy. I was an early sign up with modem.

I was already told I was being connected and I got that text too

There are plenty now who signed up before who mightn’t make it into the first 200 as it’s posted here

    • +1

I just got the same SMS, have now re-signed up.
Do I need to get a modem or some other equipment? There is already an NBN box in the cupoboard…

    • Says

Unable to proceed to next step due to incomplete or unsuccessful service qualification

Didn't get this sms although i was one of the early sign ups

  • Thanks.
How long for the NBN to be active after signing up?

  • +1

    Just (re) signed up…
First time using nbn as it was recently setup. What's a good modem I should get? Don't need anything fancy.. All I do is general browsing, work and video streaming and would like to use telephone when setup. No hosting etc.

    • I just signed up and received a respone that the service is fully subscribed

  • +5

Noticed the confirmation said to end of November, it’s nearly October now so that’s a real stretch to saying 3 months

  • Using Optus modem (3864), what would be the setting used for NBN for other provider.

    http://admin:[email protected]/main.html

  • Does anyone have a list of the FibreMax® approved modems?

  • Anyone actually able to get it working? I cannot seem to get it to work with my BYO modem.

    • +2

No I'm having the same problem. I just looked at services in the my account portal. It's saying preactive so maybe we will have to wait till Monday.

      • hey , can u share the link to the accounts portal?

  • +1

When I initially tried to sign up I got the fully subscribed message, but I just tried a second time with the link Scalebearer posted and this time I got a welcome email. The account portal even says the service is active! Shame I don't have NBN owned hfc modem yet.

    Congratulations mapax,

      Let wait and see.

  • Doesn't look like they do fixed wireless :(

I guess the name is fiber max

  • I signed up as soon as it was posted and got the text. Nothing since though. When filling in the form now, it says no spots available.

    Interesting to see what happens.

  • +1

service is running nice and smooth , they are a Vocus reseller , can run speedtests and trace routes if anyone needs em

    • What modem do you have?
I will buy my own, do I look for VDSL2 modems? Anything specific that I should now?

      • +1

i have FTTP so I am using my old gear , which technology u r on?
do see that this RSP is using VLAN tag 100

        • I was just connecting through mobile 4G … so nbn is completely new to me, yet I passed the option to buy modem from Fibremax

Should I look for FTTP NBN modems?

          • @code19: look on NBN site, are you getting FTTP? FTTP and FTTC doesn't need modems, just a standard router will do.

            • @cycleri3: I checked my address and it says

              Hybrid Fibre Coaxial (HFC)

              what do I need?

              • @code19: NBN will supply you a cable modem, you need a standard router to plug into that.

                • @cycleri3: When you say NBN will supply me a cable modem, will they come home and install?

                  • @code19: Yes.
I have HFC and the NBN tech came and installed an NBN modem that plugged into an unused Telstra cable tv socket.

                    • @edrift: Great thanks for your patience in answering my questions.
                      Cheers

        • Hi, can you shed some light on how to get connected please?

Did you choose the DHCP or PPPoE connection?

How did you configure VLAN tagging, is it in your devicec or in your router? Thanks

          • +1

            @Zi: hey
            depending on ur Router setttings,
            u need to use

            Connection type: PPPoE
            IP Assignment: Dynamic(or DHCP)
VLAN Tag also needs to be configured on your Router

whats ur device model and NBN Type?

            • @ibtihaj: What is this VLAN tagging thing? Does it apply to FTTC as well?

              • @cycleri3: not really sure mate about FTTC , but on FTTP I had to do Tag VLAN100 as told by Fibremax
its just a virtual network tag , check your modem config to find out if you can apply it on your modem/router

    • Did you do self signup through the portal? or did you get a real person connect you up?

  • +2

Wtf so I signed up originally, now have I missed out because they changed the signup process?

  • +1

Pretty good so far, YouTube, Netflix 4k, Hulu, Kayo all performing same as ABB. Cancelled my ABB so I can enjoy free fibremax for the next 3 months :)

    • How long from preactive to being connected?

      • 18th applied, 20th activated, on fttp

        • FTTP is a simple software switch to activate users if the infrastructure is already in. All other technologies may require an NBN tech to do something at their side to activate unfortunately. Darn you liberals

          • @testeagles: Damn the liberals indeed, had to pay big bucks to convert my fttn to fttp

            • @FeZZa21: Oh wow, you are the only person I have heard that has successfully changed. Out of curiosity, ballpark figure of cost?

              • @testeagles: 12k, quite a few people have changed: https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/thread/97wjj0k9 (there's a good spreadsheet there that gives you a rough estimate depending on your distance from your node)

I changed because I could physically never get more than 50mbps. Basically my house was last on a long copper line, yet my neighbour to my right was on a different path 500m to the node, and me 1000m going the other way.

so going with the TCP, NBN laid out the fibre on the shorter path (500m) and hence the relatively "cheaper" price. costs would have been doubled if there was no shorter path and wouldn't have gone ahead with it.

and if you're on FTTC then it's even more cheaper to switch to FTTP.

                • @FeZZa21: Hmm I am roughly 700m by cable but approx 500m from the pillar as copper does a loop. Had internal rewiring and went from 33 -> ~50/20 which is great for the 50/20 plan. I would love FTTP but not sure if the value is there as I am in the mid speed ballpark. Hopefullt the future will bring the price down

                  • @testeagles: yeah yours would cost around the same I reckon.

If I was on my neighbours 500m line I would have gotten close to 80 and would've been happy with that.

In the end I chose FTTP to enjoy reliable and fast speeds and get away from unreliable copper and for investment reasons, as it'll make my house more attractive to buyers/renters when it's the only house with fibre in an area of FTTN.

and I can recover most of the costs over time by churning through CCs with FF points and selling them :)

  • Anybody with HFC connected?

    • I got a schedule visit in 2 week but must have been some mistakes, I had active nbn before a few months ago, still got 4 green light on my arris modem just disconnect at the moment so it should only some software config remotely.

      • I'm in the same situation. Still has 4 green lights but I can't connect.
My service status is still in preactive.

        Did yours get connected yet?
