YouTube Premium INR 129/Month (~AU $2.94) via YouTube India (VPN Required)

6310

Finally signed up to this deal. Noticed that it is over 6 months since it's been posted so posting it again for those who weren't aware. Impressed with the service so far.

Full credit to Mitr for the original deal, title and description.

Google has finally launched Youtube Premium in India for INR 129(AUD ~2.60) and Family Membership for INR 189 (AUD ~3.80).
Comes with Youtube Music, No Ads in Youtube as well as Google Play Music.

https://india.googleblog.com/2019/03/introducing-youtube-mus…

This cost cheaper that was posted earlier for using Russian subscription option posted here https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/414890

I have signed up after cancelling Russian plan with my Macquarie Debit card so no conversion charges.

Everything included in post by @Dealbot applies here too.

Youtube Premium will give you access to -
• Ad-free videos: Watch videos without interruptions
• Save offline: Save videos and songs on your mobile device to watch offline
• Background play: Keep videos or music playing when using other apps or when your screen’s off
• Audio mode: Listen to audio only on the YouTube Music app
• Google Play Music Subscription (when available in your country) is included at no additional cost

Current pricing is $14.99 per month in Australia. This workaround should work for new and existing customers.

Again, the trick to making this work is having access to a VPN service. If you're signed up to one then the rest of the process should be fairly simple.

Instructions -
1. Connect a VPN to the server India (I connected to Bangalore)
2. Click on Paid Memberships(youtube.com), then click on Learn more.
https://www.youtube.com/paid_memberships

Enter Indian address and pay by credit card.
Termination takes place under this link(music.youtube.com)

  • I cancelled my current subscription then renew using VPN, they didn't even ask for address. All I entered was the state (Maharashtra).

There are ways to get all of what's offered for free, of course.

  • I got this, very happy. Took me hours to sign up to Spotify Philippines. I tried this and it only took minutes and is cheaper. YouTube music app works well.

  • +7

    Love this deal.
Only downside is Top hits charts for Play music are the Indian ones..

    • Yes, top hits and new releases are distinctively "sub continental", but this doesn't district from using the app in other areas.

    • Upside*

  • I tried last night using my Android phone and a trial with Express VPN but then stopped when I couldn't find my wallet to pay.

Tried again this morning using the same method but it wouldn't give me INR pricing so I switched to Tunnel Bear and it worked fine.

I had an existing family subscription which I cancelled last time in order to renew.

Periodically triggers Citibank fraud alerts for me but I just have to provide confirmation it was me

If anyone is seeing it go for 169 INR instead of 129 on iPhone (in my experience at least) try it on PC, mine showed 129 INR on PC.

    • +1

iPhone tax. Signing up on PC / Mac makes it 129 however signing up on iOS is expensive because of Apple App store tax.

    • Same here

    • You can also log in through Safari/Chrome on the mobile.

Ive been on this on the family plan for a few weeks now! No issues so far!

Question: does anyone know if i can swap my Google Drive sub to India?

    • What’s the difference like 10 cents?

    • I got the family subscription for 149 INR on my Android phone

      • How'd you do that? I'm seeing it as 189.

        • +1

          @seamonkey

Not sure if it's due to cancelling my Australian family membership and renewing it straight away with this deal.

I also have been paying full Australian price since September 2018.

          I don't know 100% why sorry, that's only what I speculate.

          • +1

@Ausdave: Thanks @Ausdave. Super deal you have scored there.

  • signed up on a family account a few months ago. still going strong.

    Youtube is a public service.
We make the videos. Where's the money going?

    • If you watch creators, some part of your Youtube subscriptions money goes to creators.

    • +2

      Youtube is a public service.

      Wot.

We make the videos. Where's the money going?

Google shareholders, content creators, server fees, original content, etc.

Google is a for-profit company and YouTube is a product. It's not a utility like water or electricity (which aren't free). Besides, the vast majority of people already have access to countless hours of FREE YouTube content. I'm very interested to hear where the 'public service' mentality comes from.

    • +2

ill ignore the public service comment and just answer your question.

If you're looking for what do you get for your money, you're paying google to not serve you ads whilst watching videos.

  • You don't need a VPN in India. A simple proxy is plenty, get one from gatherproxy.com

  • +1

    6months and going strong!

  • +1

6 months going hard - get charged about $2.70 every month (St. george signature)

  • Note that if you try and use this overseas it won't work. Youtube geoblocks a lot of stuff, including the ability to download videos, which is a service you're paying for!

    • What do you mean mate? content won't work overseas or have to always use VPN for youtube?

      • i.e. pay for youtube premium, and go to japan, and you will lose the ability to download videos and perhaps other features

    • @belongsinforums

You can still watch your downloaded videos overseas.

All you need to do is use a VPN with Australia as the IP.

Tried and tested by me when I was in Vietnam

      • i suppose that would work, at the cost of extremely slow speeds and the need for a separate purchase for a vpn

    • this is incorrect, partially. It won't work in countries where youtube premium has not been released yet. I am currently oseas last week it wasnt working, luckily just before i cancelled the sub, youtube premium was released here and its working fine.

      • premium was released in japan when i used it. it just blocked the premium features for me

  • +1

Can you pay with Google credit? ie From the Google Rewards surveys or gift cards purchased here?

What about flipcart sale K20 pro under au$500
    Asus6z under au$600

    Thanks OP.

I cancelled my family membership and signed up again with no issues.

  • +1

I don't know why this never works for me. It always pre-fills US as the location for me when I go to put in an address, even when I've set the location as India on YouTube and I have tried 2 different VPNs, my main account, and a new one…

    • Not sure if this would work, but have you tried clearing your internet cache or going incognito on your browser?

      • Yeah I have, about to try TunnelBear as people have suggested it works recently.

        • I used private internet access if that is any help

    • if you are trying to set up a family account this might work

it's the invitation email. after changing the settings you need to cancel the invitation and resend the invitation

  • +5

Should every long-running deal get reposted every 6 months? Appreciate OP raising awareness for those who aren’t aware of the deal, but is there a bigger problem of high-value long-running deals not being prominent enough on the site, or being too hard to find?

  • +1

Any free VPN has India location? My Windscribe account doesn't have 'India' as one of the free locations.

    • Was just about to ask this question.

  • Thanks - signed up for family membership and i was able to invite others with no issues.

hi guys fairly new with service ..could someone shed some more light… what are some good VPN TO SIGN UP for YouTube Premium…is their any softwares that you need to download for the VPN if you are using an iphone or do you need to browse using an internet browser…sorry never used the Vpn before …any suggestions would be greatly appreciated…also how much do you need to. pay for the VPN or are they free to sign up.

  • I've got this, signed my mate on. I love paying $2.70 a month for all those services

  • Keen to jump on a family plan if someone is looking to start one up!

  • What's the difference on that Youtube Music and Google Play Music?

Can I tell Google Assitant to play a song through Youtube Music, play it to a chrome cast device should be fine, how about play to a bluetooth speaker?

    • You can set up which one it defaults to. You can also specify which one to play music through.

You'd want to play it through GPM generally for the sound quality. Plus you don't even need the video part so.

      • Thanks. So source from Youtube Music is ok. How to tell Google Assitant play that to a bluetooth device?
The Google Home or mini does not support bluetooth nor audio output to a speaker right?

I guess it has to be have the phone in the chain, let the phone connect to the bluetooth, tell assitant to play to that bt speaker?

This is not as convient as Amazon Alexa, since you can tell it to play to BT devices without invovling the phone in the chain.

        What is GPM?

        • GPM = Google Play Music.

Google Assistant can play to another speaker/bluetooth device. You just need to set it up in the settings.
Give it a name and say "hey google, play INXS on Sony Speaker" and off it goes AFAIK.

  • Excellent! Family is stoked :)

  • It says one month free trail and then INR 129? So if I make the purchase with VPN, after one month they deduct INR 129?

    • Correct.

  • how upgrade to family plan? currently am on individual plan

    • Visit families.google.com

      • thanks I added a family member. when I click on invitation link this error "Trouble joining family group Looks like you're in a different country than the family manager" am using Hola vpn

        • ok solved the issue. I made new payment profile with country India.

          • @georgev: Did you do this on Family Manager or Family Member?

          • @georgev: did you have to remove all other payment methods
I just added one with india as the country but I still get the different country error

            • @Cral42: I don’t have any payment setup for that account. Maybe try removing all. good luck

            • @Cral42: resend the invitation link

  • Anyone know if signing up as a student works? I'm waiting for verification :(

  • Thanks for that. Can't complain and it's nice to finally have a use for the IBVPN extension on Chrome :)

  • Family membership works out at less than $1/month. That's unbelievable value.
I'm currently paying double that I believe :P

  • it said payment method declined, i dont have a credit card, just a debit card, so debit card doesnt work?

    • got the same error, a google search suggests that it may be because I'm using a VPN (?)

      • Fixed the issue, just change a random India address and it works

  • Thanks OP

  • Which vpn is good and cheaper

  • Been using this since the last deal. Just used TunnelBear (free membership is enough) to upgrade to a Family membership (which includes up to 5 members for ₹189.00/month). If anyone is looking to upgrade, follow the link https://youtube.com/paid_memberships, click on the 3 dots after the individual membership and select upgrade to family.

    • To share the membership, each family member would need to delete their existing payment profile (e.g. AU) and create a new Google Pay profile (IN) and then accept your invitation using a VPN.

I went through that process just recently.

      • Interesting…I managed to add my partner without doing any of those (no VPN, no new Google Pay profile). She just accepted the invitation.

        • -1

Oh ok… maybe your partner didn't have any existing Google Pay profile setup on the account? Not sure but in my case it didn't work initially and kept throwing error that the family member was in a different region… I had to some some reading on the forums and finally the above trick worked for me.

          • +1

@batrarobin: Ok. That may be the reason. I do not think my partner had a pay profile setup in the first place. Cheers for that.

      • +1

I sold 4 of my other spots and they didn't have to.

Just accepted the link. This was 2 months ago now.

I currently have a YouTube Premium family which is costing me $22.99 a month (I use it mostly for getting rid of ads especially on my kids iPads). But considering this awesome deal I'm looking at taking up this offer.

Given that I use my google account for all kinds of things (including development) I'm a bit worried about the repercussions if this scheme comes "unstuck".

Would you peeps recommend totally cancelling my youtube family account. And then create a whole different email address and sign up for this deal with that?

    • Sounds like you are onto a pretty foolproof pathway there.

    • +2

I'd create a dummy account to act as the family plan holder and then invite your main account to join the plan.

I remember when the deal was first posted there were some issues getting accounts from other regions to join the dummy Indian account, but for the sake of $200+ dollars a year it's probably worth investigating.

      • +2

I tried this before. Used a spare google account, signed into this deal (got a free trial so cost me nothing). This worked fine, however when I tried to invite my main google account to the family, it didn't work as the regions were different. I don't want to change my main account to India. Any way around this?

    • It's not that straight-forward for family members to simply join the group…they would need to have an Indian profile setup for Google Pay and have a VPN connected to India to be able to accept your invitation to join.

      • See my comments above. It appears as family members do not need to go through a VPN (or create a new profile).

    • I wouldn’t stress. Google wouldn’t want to lose you as a user. Worst case they’d just cancel the subscription.

  • Nice one, used Windscribe Pro with New Dehli and works a treat. Signed up with my existing account, so hopefully nothing funky comes from Google's end.

  • Thanks op. 79INR using a valid student enrolment.

    • How did you get that?

Edit: Found it as an option. Student verification is manually done by SheerID though.

      • I got verified by using my current uni credentials.

        • Lucky! Didn't work for my uni and I needed to submit a transcript or ID to be manually reviewed.

Edit: Turns out it won't let you automatically validate if you're not coming from an Australian IP. I turned off the VPN, validated instantly, and turned it back on. Problem solved!

  • Hi, is there anyone got free slot for youtube pre fam, i wanna join
