        • wait, you are complaining that this phone's bezels are too thin? That's strange.

I can understand complaining about the screen being too small. I currently have a LG v30 which is 6inch so slightly bigger than the s10e, will have to check it out in store to see if the difference is a problem.

          • @mlburnian: I'm coming from mix2s with 6" and the screen is tangibly smaller (skinnier screen, also fat top bar bcoz hole punch) but I'm sure I'll survive. Still bigger than any other phone prior. Just soooo cheap lol.

          • @mlburnian: I'm saying that the phone itself is too small, better off getting the s10 which is the same size as most phones but uses the area to fit the screen.

It's just a bit of a weird make the S10e

I can definitely see the reason S10 is preferred, wish we could grab it for $199 or $299 with this plan.

  • When this deal expire??

    • +1

End of this month according to one jb staff but let see the catalogue tomorrow when it's officially out……

      • -1

End of month being October or November?

        • +1

are we in oct or nov?

          • @CyberMurning: I know we are in October but tomorrow will mean it is only 1 week till the end of the month so it'll be a short offer.

Anyway sorry I asked an obviously stupid question of you

            • @morphjk: No worries all are not confirmed anyway you can call jbhifi tomorrow everyone will know.

    • Confirmed as the 30th of October.

  • Guy I spoke to at a JB store told me today that you had to have been ported out for 3 months prior otherwise you weren't eligible for any bonus. Pretty sure he is wrong. Won't be the store I'm going to deal with anyway as I'll go to the one near my work.

    • +1

That's BS, just go to other store. Once JB employee also said that I can't have any number with Telstra for at least 30 days cause my data would still be in their system, even though I'm porting in from different provider. Then I just went to other store and it all went smoothly.

      • How long did you have to wait between porting out and back in. My new month starts in 4 days and I'm breaking the final part of my contract to port out

        • I have 2 numbers, one is already with Telstra, the other one is with Kogan. Basically, one JB store complaint that I can't port in to Telstra as I was already considered as a Telstra customer. So I guess its a different case.

          • @yummypinacolada: Both of our numbers are with Telstra so that is our issue and we don't want new numbers

            • @morphjk: No mate, I have 2 numbers back then but only one of them is with Telstra. I was gonna port out my Kogan number, but JB store refused to do so because I was already considered as Telstra customer.

  • does anyone know if I can sign up to this and port my number that is currently on optus contract? then just pay out and cancel the optus contract afterwards?

    • Jbhifi staff will know the answer tomorrow by 9am.

    • you can ask optus… my etc is $108…so it's okay

  • So i just switched to Amaysim today from Telstra so i know they will not let me change back with my current number but if i got a new phone number with them would that work?

Really don't care having to get a new number if it means i can get the S10e for $99!

    Thanks.

    • don't just look at 99, remember $65x12 that is the catch

      • Yes i know, still a lot cheaper and i would get the buds aswell that i could sell.

  • Thanks OP, i will jump on S10e today

    • Before or after you buy them?

      • Please send video in slow motion while you are jumping on to it

        • Please wear pants while recording with the new phone.

  • any guess on how much the s10e would be worth for resale in 12 months time in good condition? 350?

    • +2

I don't think you can predict a sale value in 12 months time…

    • Easier to predict Melbourne cup winner….

I've been in JB all morning signing up for s10e. I signed the contract and everything but no SMS has come thru from Telstra to my current Optus sim asking if I do agree to port over - apparently Telstra is getting smashed from people signing up to this and the Pixel deal. In the end I had to leave JB sans phone and was told to come back in store once I get that SMS from Telstra. So, if you're planning on going in today, be prepared for a long wait!

    • same here..I've received the sms from Telstra and authenticated it…however Telstra haven't actioned on it yet.

Now on live chat to see if it can be expedited.

      • Let us know if live chat able to help

        • Nope nothing so far …live chat just asked me to keep waiting

    • Same as me, but I haven't received the text either, it's been 4 hours now

      • Have you received anything yet mate?

    • I got validation email and welcome to new plan email from Telstra. But my Kogan still active… Oh well…just done it 1 hour ago

      • +1

Got everything done before 10am and have now downgraded to the $45 JB plan.

        • Did you downgrade on the spot or come back to do it?

          • @wangasm: I went to Good Guys. JB guy was not too keen on helping. Not sure if they will flag this to Telstra too.

            • @Hunnypooh: What? Good guys helping jbhifi product?

              • @CyberMurning: AFAIK Good guys are actually partnered with JB to resell the same plans so it would be using the same system/setup I'm assuming.

            • @Hunnypooh: So good guys now help you out changing a jb plan? How did you go about that? I mean do you just walk up and say.. "I just signed up on a $65 plan… Can I now move to $45 plan?" Genuinely curious.

              • +1

@alterego13: There's another guy who made comment about his process of downgrading. Maybe in the 1sr or 2nd age of this deal can't remember

              • +2

@alterego13: Yeaps pretty much just said Telstra told me to come in to change my $65 plan to $45

  • +1

How can you downgrade to $45 plan? Is it in store only?

    • Yes in store only. Tried live chat and calling Telstra and both said to go in store

  • i kind of gave this deal a miss, but now people talking about 45 a month downgrade? now you got my attention, can someone who did this walk us through? get the deal, wait for activation, go to good guys downgrade?

    here is the breakdown,
sign up for $65 12 month plan, pay 99 for s10e handset.
go to gg and downgrade to $45, total cost out of pocket after 12 months :540 for 12 months plus the 99 for handset thats $639

now we calculate the worth of the 12 month plan ozbargain style, the best i can think of is the kogan 12 month plan with 40gb data per month and unlimited calls texts that is worth $300

now calculating the worth of the free airpods, they go for $170 or something, lets just say easy sell $140

    639-300-140 = 200

so effectively this phone will cost you a mere $200 dollars.

if someone can confirm downgrade is possible and guaranteed this is a cracker deal

    • Do you know if there any payout for the phone, if cancel the phone plan and pay the 390 fee?
Did you get the $400 JB gift card on spot?

      • apparently there is no gift card with the phone, the gift card is for sim only plan, i was as confused as you but someone else calirfied that you can either get the sim only plus 400 gift card (no phone) or no gift card but you are able to get the phone for 99

    • Downgrade is not guarantee but the rest are plus $95 less if you go overseas TRS. So just re calculate without downgrade and see if still good deal or not.

    • +1

I have downgraded to $45 plan with 30gb data. Confirmed with rep in store that there is no fee to downgrade though the TGG rep looked bewildered.

    • Duplicate response

      • did you downgrade at JB Hifi or TGG? And did you do it on the spot (ie when you signed up) or later after you signed up?

        • +1

At tgg. A bit later (well it's different store so can't be on the spot)

      • +3

        Hunnypooh, just echoing your comments.

I had a similar experience - went to one JB Hi Fi store to purchase the s10e for $99 upfront. That is all you are required to pay, the JB Hi Fi storeperson said telstra will send you the first bill for $65. I then spoke with Telstra 24x7 live chat and they confirmed no fees to downgrade to $45 plan for 12 months, but I can confirm that they are not able to change your plan online - the telstra representative tried but was unable to access. I then went to a different JB Hi Fi store and got the plan downgraded to the $45 plan. I was not able to see any reference to early termination charges (ETC) or accessory repayment option (ARO). Both critical information summaries I received and signed for the $65 and $45 plans respectively were the default ones available on the telstra website. For example, the critical information summary I received does not even reflect the bonus data currently applied to the plans.

Apologies for the long post - there appear to be a lot of questions and I wanted to share my experience. Thank you to OP for posting the deal.

        • So you were able to downgrade to $45/mo plan without paying any termination fees?

  • OK So I just did this this morning, got told it was port-in only so went next door and activated a $2 optus SIM. Fortunately the Optus Activation was quick, and then the port to Telstra was also quick - about 45mins all up (and had to answer credit check questions over the phone).

Interestingly, the Manager put the phone through as $999, paid for with "online gift card $900" and I paid the balance. He wrote out a gift card, swiped it, then filed it away. Anyway, receipt says $999.

But I happen to be heading overseas this weekend so I will try for a TRS claim and get the $90.82 refunded from my $999 phone…

When I get back in a couple of weeks I'll look to cancel the plan and pay the ETC.

    • So you didn't get told you had to wait 30 days? Been to 3 jb's around perth now and have been told every time i have to wait… i have given up to go get an early lunch.

      • Have they been asking you up front how long you have been ported out for?

        • First two people did, the 3rd guy didn't ask but then Tesltra told him 😑 annoying as i had been there for over 30 mins at that point.

      • That 30 days is if you are from Telstra port out and back in. From other provider, no one care

        • So i could just get a new sim/new number and they wouldn't care that i was last with Telstra two days ago using a different number?

          • @zacsg1: I think so. That's the whole meaning of porting in, right? From other provider. But then people abuse it by port out and port back in when deals comes up so they out 30 days restrictions.

No you don't port your old number but get new $2 SIM from voda and activate as new number, and then port in that new numBer to Telstra. No 30 days rule will apply. But yeah now you have 2 service numbers active with Telstra.

            • @CyberMurning: Ok ill give that a try! 👍

              • @zacsg1: Yes, that's what I did. I don't need the second service number and will cancel the plan. I'm just after the handset.
Others here are after the plan and will sell the handset to reduce the plan cost.

              • +1

@zacsg1: The point is Telstra wants new customers. So as long the number you bring in is fresh from voda it's is fine doesnt matter activated 2 mins ago or 8 years ago. They can't check. But if you port out your Telstra number out then try to port back in same day/week then Telstra will know. Like wait this number was with us a week ago, this Customer must be naughty. And Technically he is not 100% new.

                • @CyberMurning: Never got the deal as each place told me i had to of been with Optus for 30 days… big waste of time.

    • Can you activate a $2 sim without a recharge?

      • Yes - apoligies - must be activated with recharge so I did $10 minimum and did it in the optus store too to make sure it went through

    • Thinking about getting a $2 Optus sim for the same reason. Did you have to top up $10 to get it working or was just buying the sim enough?

      • You have to of used the sim for 30 days i have been told.

      • Went today, asked for a $2 sim - given for free. Topped up $10 (minimum I can choose) and it's been activated within minutes. Pending port-in to Telstra with this deal.

  • Anyone in QLD finalised this? In Gold Coast, ported over at 9am, haven't got any activation text or anything other than an email. Signed up, but they wouldn't let me take the phone until finalised, and have to come back once done, but I have a feeling nothing is happening as i haven't even received a text yet..

    • Signed up at 9am and still nothing for me. In QLD.

      • Still nothing? No text?

        • Nothing! 8 hours now, I'm spewing. I wanted the phone today! I got on Telstra live chat and the person said she'd escalate the port and I'd get an email "shortly", but that was bloody hours ago too and still nothing. I'm working tomorrow so I don't think I'll be able to go in store to JB till the weekend. And doesn't porting only happen on weekdays? Did you get your text?

          • @pistachio1: 6.5 hrs now, nothing. Live chat says it's normal, can be up to 24 hours so my case means nothing to her….grrr

            • @CyberMurning: Yeah when I did last time it took just over 36 hours to move from Voda to Telstra

            • @CyberMurning: I don't get how for some people it's 5 minutes and others it's just God knows when. Does something get flagged and delays the port or what?

          • @pistachio1: Nope… Not pleased

    • Did mine about 11:30 and it went through straight away without issue, know someone else doing the same thing (but I think went in about 9am) and systems were getting hammered and still don't have the port sms. I dunno.

    • WA here. Requested for port-in at mid-day today (5 hours ago) with nil confirmation yet as of now. Another guy that I spoke to whose waiting to get his S10e got the confirmation with Telstra within 5 minutes and was confirmed for port-in via text link, but his original network is still active from the last time I spoke to him about 2 hours ago.

  • And so the cancel fee is confirmed $390 to Telstra?

    • Yea

      • Looks like there is a $900 handset fee if terminate early.

Was given the telstra<->JB runaround told. One JB store said it was $99 device fee + $390 Telstra ETC, but handset invoiced at $999.

Other JB hifi store said device is invoiced at $999 and if cancel contract early there is an outstanding $900 handset fee. Snaked around this $900 issue but he was clear.. said others got caught 6 months ago during previous Huawei P20 deal trying the same early-termination tactic.

** Can anybody suggest there isn't a $900 handset fee if terminate early? **

        • This is Bring Your Own plan. There is no handset on the plan.

Only ETC is $390 as per JB HiFi critical summary doc.

          • @datafellows: Asked the JB Hifi dude. He said "There is a $900 ARO (accessory repayment option) against the contract. Telstra may or may not chase you for it. Up to you if want to proceed."

            • @Cheaparoo: I don't know about that, all I read what's in the contract :)

But I'm not going to go through that as I need both numbers.

            • +2

@Cheaparoo: If that is the case, they'd have to specify it in the contract wouldn't they?

I don't see any mention of an ARO in the contract so cannot see how they could enforce it and make you pay $900 should you terminate the plan.

The JB rep I spoke to this morning confirmed with me that aside from the $390 ETC there will be no other costs which echoes most people's experience here with their respective reps so I think the guy you spoke to might be misinformed.

  • there is so many ways going about this, if yo uhave a current kogan plan like me and its good enough 13gb a month, and i got 6 month left in it, not really needing to change to another plan,

based on what people are saying, the line activates same day, can we cancel same day or is there a waiting policy of one month, im thinking going in and getting the $99 handset and sign up for $65 a month, go for a jog 5 mins and than go back to store again and say i wana cancel the plan, pay the 390 cancellation fee on the spot,

you end up with a s10e and airpods for $490 dollars total. if you get rid of the pods on gumtree for 140 you got a 350 dollar s10e, am i missing something?

    • I think the cancellation is with Telstra no need to cancel with JB. In the JB store I had to speak to a Telstra person on the phone so they could read out the CIS and get me to agree as part of the port-in process.

In fact, as my primary service is with Telstra I checked the Telstra App and the new $65 servcie is there already. It tells me I have 17 days left which co-incides with my primary service, so I expect they'll be billed together. On the My Plan tab it tells me my ETC is $390.

I wonder if cancel it now I might not even pay the $65 for the first "month"….might try tomorrow…

And my S10e hasn't even finished charging yet :)

      • +1

ok so confirmed no charge for the handset only the 390, also if you go to good guys and try to downgrade to 45 a month plan the etc is 270 which makes this even sweeter of a deal. 370 total lol with airpods. if you can sell the airpods for even 120 that makes the s10e 250, its totally worth it!

        • Downgrade the Telstra plan purchased through JB at Good Guys ??

          • @CanadaBoy: can someone confirm do we strictly have to do a port over or can we sing up for a new number with jbhifi

            • @striker5950: Calling jbhifi will give you faster answer and more certain too

            • @striker5950: Went to JB in the morning. Offer is for port in ONLY.
They even showed me what Telstra given us.

  • Do you have to pay the $65 first month fee upfront for the S10e or is it just the $99 for the phone when you sign up. Thanks.

    • $99 is all you pay in store.
