    • downloads are always highspeed from usenet. With torrents the speed depends on how well it's seeded.
I can find more old stuff on usenet. torrents tend to die over time, so if you're looking for stuff several yrs old it can be difficult or not possible.

      • yeah getting old stuff off torrents can be a nightmare if there's only a few seeders

  • +1

If you can activate ipv6 through your ISP you can get free Usenet. It's only good for new releases and doesn't have very long retention but I get speeds anywhere from 5-7mb/s. Best if all but it doesn't cost a cent. I just use a block account to fill old releases.

    • Which one is that?

    • 5-7mb/s is nothing.

      • Believe he actually means 5-7MB/s

        • -1

Yeah I would think so but that's why it's so important to know the difference.

  • any DS invite

  • Any DS invites left?

  • +2

Why everyone so keen on ds? Is it really any better an indexer compared to other easier to get into ones like geek?

    • I'd also like to know why… Usenet nub here though.

      • I feel it's mostly that it's difficult to get as they rarely open for registrations…

I fail to see much diff between and others like geek or dog

        • They open registration basically once a month, not at all rare.

  • +1

What would you recommend as the best UN provider/index deals out of this list? (best price and ease of access/no invite or mucking around)

  • DrunkenSlug looks popular, I want in…..

  • -1

me too - would love a drunkenslug invite if anyone has spare?

    • -2

Nothing to do, discuss, support the deal. Just want something else.

      Be gone beast!

  • Also appreciate invite to DS

  • A DOGnzb invite for a DS invite pls :D

    • +1

      PM me

  • Wow that's an amazing map, great work OP but it's a little too complicated for me, can someone advise:

    If using usenet server.

What would be the better indexer to put money into

    NBZGeek Lifetime
    or DS 18 months ale?

Would their content be the same or different, I get a little lost at understanding the whole backbone side of things.

    • Content is a bit different between the two search engines as nzbgeek has a lot of releases with obfuscated filenames. They're technically on DS since it's a general propose search engine but you would never find them due to the random banning.

Think of DS as basically Google for nzb whereas nzbgeek is a file download site rather than a search engine, it's all curated uploads.

      • I thought you only needed one Indexer and then multiple Server Providers on different backbones?

        • Would be great if someone could clarify this, I find the linex files I'm after for popular ISOs are down within a day of airing.

and I don't want to use Sonar I only get minimal content and am very picky about the quality of file I get, would rather do it manually.

  • Wondering what would be worthwhile for me to grab here

Have Geek lifetime and Newsgroup Ninja, I have a free slug account so maybe that for a second indexer, but would also like a second provider as backup, any suggestions from this lot?

    • +1

I'm using UE alongside Ninja and its been awesome. NewsGroupDirect is a UE provider which is on sale atm.

    • +1

      https://newsgroupdirect.com/usenet-deals

3tb block for $18usd would make for a good backup provider

  • Which is the best deal?

  • my althub was only extended until end of 2020

  • Also looking for a drunken slug invite if anyone would be kind enough to share :)

  • for those undecided on NBZGeek lifetime you can join for free to check it out but you will be restricted to i think 3 downloads a day

  • +1

Of you have an annual usage around or less than 1 tb get
    * 1TB vipernews block
    * 500GB Usenet farm block

    Total ~AUD36.5

  • Thanks OP, that would have been a lot of work!
I think I'll upgrade to lifetime NZBGeek.

Also would adore a DS invite if anyone still has any!

  • +1

Got one (1) DrunkenSlug invite, first to PM with an email address will get it. Upfront apologies to anyone that misses out.

    Edit: Gone

  • I'm a little late to the party on asking, but if any Drunken Slug invites left anywhere ….would be much appreciated.

    • Hi cage, I have a DS invite if you are still after one.

      • Hi, PM sent — Thank you

  • Is there any advantage of usernet over private torrent sites?

    • Yeah, I don't know. I am a member of a few private sites. It seems as though my seedbox RSS feeds will autosnatch stuff much quicker/earlier than they are available on usenet. I find that it can be anything from a few minutes to hours before stuff on private torrent sites hits usenet. Whether that is true or if it is an indexer issue I don't know. I do use 3 indexers, though.

  • really thinking of moving from TL to usenet… TL has been great but getting harder to find old stuff now… DS sounds great

    • I am on TL, DS and NZBGeek.

TL is better for older content and new releases. It is often much quicker to have the releases available than usenet.

DS and Geek are better for kids tv.

I am currently running Sonarr with Geek, Slug and Simply for a week to see how it goes, but in testing so far, TL is still quicker for new releases.

      • I found that TL was pretty bad for older content, most of the shows i was trying to download were missing episodes or 0 seeders. TL is trash now compared to some of the top tier trackers, def not what it used to be.

        • The biggest gripe for me is the fact it's getting harder and harder to seed back with TL. Even with RSS feeds and grabbing popular stuff at the beginning doesn't result in much gain. This is why I am thinking about switching to Usenet full time.

          • +1

@o53djz7qTPY4der: Yeah, that's one of the reasons I'm moving away from torrenting, its a pain to keep my ratio above the minimum. Usenet has been awesome running with 2 providers UE and Ninja, I've had 0 issues sourcing content.

  • I got into Usenet a few months ago and have been getting by with geek. Been waiting patiently on a few threads for Slug to try it out, but I don't want to pester. Whats the best way to know when its open?

  • I know that this is a big ask, but does anyone have a DS invite they are willing to share? I've been hunting one for ages ._ .

  • If anyone has a drunken slug invite I'd be super grateful!

  • Would also really appreciate a a drunken slug invite if anyone has one

  • FYI - "ThunderNews $25/yr unlimited - lifetime renewal" is sold out. Just tried to get it as a replacement for an existing more expensive highwinds account :(

  • +5

As someone who's done about 150TB on usenet over the past 10 months, here's a few notes:

    • Newsgroup Ninja is worth every penny. Their NL, US and DE servers all serve separate backbones - BaseIP, Highwinds and Eweka respectively - so it's a good idea to set them all up in your download client.
    • Pair Ninja with something like UsenetExpress or Usenet.Farm, where they have their own retention and then backfill from Abavia, would make the ultimate duo.
    • I would strongly NOT recommend altHUB. In the time I tried to use them, there was way too many hits for viruses, fake files, etc. Just wasn't worth the effort. I had 5 indexers in nzbhydra, as soon as altHUB was disabled, all the false files came to a halt.
    • NZBGeek lifetime is well worth it, even at full price. Get on it!
    • If you have Drunken Slug, there's no need to get DogNZB. I also have less issues with DS than Dog.

I've come from private torrent trackers, and my experience with usenet in general has been below:

    • sorting and organisation is a real disappointment on any usenet index compared to the top private trackers
    • if you're looking for quality files, encodes, etc. stick with torrents. Usenet is great for scene stuff though
    • If you're looking for old and/or rare stuff, I'd stick with private trackers. PTP and BTN's seed times are impossible to match when takedowns are rampant in the usenet world.
    • I wouldn't even consider usenet for music. RED and the like are difficult to build a ratio on but the quality is unmatched. Though take into consideration I'm a lossless freak and like to know the source and everything of my rips.
    • Usenet is nice to not have to worry about a ratio or seeding, but you lose out on quality and organisation big time.
    • +2

This i did not know! I was still getting a lot of fails until i paired with UE below. Recent items no problem. ANything 1-2 years old would be a problem from time to time.

Pair Ninja with something like UsenetExpress or Usenet.Farm, where they have their own retention and then backfill from Abavia, would make the ultimate duo.

+1 - just bought a Usenet Express to pair with Ninja and its working a treat.

    • I've been reading a lot of negative crap about Abavia recently. Currently on UE and Ninja and do about 500-700GB a day, no issues with completions yet or the only issue I'm having atm is finding some foreign(Asia) content.

      • +1

        500gb!??

        • Yeah.
I'm now running UE, Ninja and Eweka(backup). UE and Ninja are DMCA while Eweka is NTD.

      • Again a positive for torrents i think… on certain private trackers foreign content is plentiful. I'm also not a fan of usenet for anime…

Sadly there's a lot of negative crap about everyone….. like Astraweb, Ninja and Tweak being owned subsidiaries of Omicron, instead of just resellers.

Should go without saying that I think buying Abavia directly is useless when UsenetExpress and Usenet.Farm backfill with them.

  • Anyone have a drunkenslug invite please? PM me :)

  • I've been using a Bulknews 6tb block for the last year…

Be warned, in recent weeks the speed has been capped to around 8Mbps, 1MB/s, in the past I could max out my connection with them no issue, and on other servers like Astraweb I still can…

  • Based on the map, does that mean I should not grab a block with UsenetExpress when I have a HW backbone provider?

I currently have NewsDemon+UsenetFarm, what should I add to this setup? Vipernews?

  • Hi All,

Does anyone have a drunkenslug invite spare. Im currently with nzbgeek, and looking to add another indexer

    Any other suggestions welcome too

    • I have nzbgeek as well, but seems like everyone is wanting to use DrunkenSlug including yourself.
What's so good about DrunkenSlug? Nzbgeek is not good enough?

      • 2 is better than 1, will find more results

  • Anyone got an invite please to the unnamed in?

  • Do any of these providers complement Usenetserver? I believe it's a Highwinds backbone.

  • Also interested in DrunkenSlug if anyone has a spare invite - thanks!

Worth noting that many of these are matching each other - NewsGroupDirect has even set up a page of their matched deals (including 6TB block for 15 Euros).

  • Looking for a drunken slug invite :)

Have dognzb nzb.su NZBCat NZBIndex nzbs.in to trade

  • +3

I seem to have 2 invites for DS after signing up and paying. PM if interested, someone here was kind enough to send me one a couple days ago.

    • PMed :)

    • Pm'ed thanks in advance

  • +1

I have 6 DS invites to give, willing to trade for other decent indexer invites.

    • Did you message “y” above? He’s looking to trade.

    • Any chance you still have an invite lying around? I have a Dog invite I can trade

  • So I already have “XS News” which has the Abavia backbone, what does the red dotted backup line mean, that the first 5 backbones are linked or the same? So should I pick a secondary provider that is not linked via backup?

If I went with Omicron/Newsgroup Ninja, would that be beneficial, or should I pick a non backup/hybrid backbone, such as Uzo Reto/Viper News.

    Thanks for any insight.

    • +1

Have a look at the NTD-policy providers as you already have a DCMA-policy provider (the second map is easier to look at). Vipernews, usenet.farm, eweka, and tweaknews are all NTD. My current setup is Ninja, UseNetExpress, and Eweka.

      • Thank you, yes the second map is much clearer.

  • I purchased a BF 6TB block from Newsgroupdirect (Bulknews pricematch) late last night for $16.53 USD ($24.50 AUD). I just set it up this evening and all good. Just checked now and surprisingly the deal is still active on their site:
    https://newsgroupdirect.com/member/billing/?planid=180&deal=

Quite a few other offers on the following page:
    https://newsgroupdirect.com/usenet-deals

No idea when this will end, but I suspect soon.

  • Hi all, I am a newbie in Usenet world, and would really appreciate if someone can kindly invite me to Drunken Slug.

Been looking to get an invite for a long time now.

    Thanks in advance.
