  • I applied back on the 1st and still waiting to hear back. I don't know why some are getting approved so quickly and I am taking so long. The longer it takes to more I'm thinking I will be rejected too. Their required supporting documents email are annoying as u have already supplied them. You have to download the app to be able to have a live chat to them. I have a 28 degrees card, anz rewards travel card and a regular cc. My credit score is about 780. I don't seem to have much luck with citi

    • i called them and they approved it straight away while i was on the phone

      • you got a phone number for the credit card department? I can't for the life of me find any number. They only want you to do live chat or submit online inquiry

    • Heya, question. How did you check your credit score?

      • credisavvy.com.au

  • +1

Has anyone received their physical card yet? I got approved on 2 December and have not received the card yet. The 30 days counts from approval so I'm a bit miffed I don't have the card yet and I'm already down to 25 days and counting down…

    • +1

Same. Was expecting it to come today, but still nothing (was also approved on the 2nd).

Saying that, spending $500 within a few weeks shouldn't be a problem with xmas coming up, so hopefully it comes next week.

    • +1

They said it'll take 4 to 5 business days from approval

    • in the same boat as you, got approved at the start of last week and been checking my mailbox everyday to no avail… wtf

    • Finally received it today!

  • Applied on 29/11 and approved today 6/12.

  • Am I reading this right in that I am not limited to spending this money at Kogan, or any of the institutions mentioned in the T&C's

Eligible purchases means any purchase excluding (but not limited to) Cash Advances, Balance Transfers, Special Promotions, BPAY payments, refunds and chargebacks, purchases of foreign currency and travellers cheques, transactions made in operating a business, bank fees and charges such as interest and ATM charges and government related transactions. Government related transactions include transactions with government or semi-government entities, or relating to services provided by or in connection with government (for example but not limited to transactions made at Australia Post, payments to the Australian Taxation Office, council rates, motor registries, tolls, parking stations and meters, fares on public transport, fines and court related costs).

So I'm free to go pick up a cheap TV at Binglee or something and in 10 weeks - money back?

I read through https://www.koganmoney.com.au/credit-cards/important-informa… and feel like I am missing something.

    • You're free to spend $500 anywhere but the places you have listed, and provided you do it in 30 days you will (hopefully) get a $500 Kogan credit.

      • Cheers man. You read the T&C's over and over but still feels too good to be true. Appreciate the reply.

      • Excluding "Special Promotion" items, so cheap tv from Bing Lee might not work. They may think you bought it under special promotion if the price is too low.

        • I try to put as much through Paypal as I can. Virgin Money (also Citi) said some of my Paypal transactions were ineligible (and wouldn't budge…supervisors etc said no) , so I fought them through the FSO and they found in my favour.

        • They cannot tell whether the thing you buy is a promotion or not. I wouldn't worry about that.

  • +3

    Wife got approved.
She got an email saying click on this link to upload proof of residency.
The link just takes her to an application submitted page.
    GG kogan.

    • Same thing happened to me, can't get back into the application at all even though it has been "submitted"

Support was no help "just wait it might fix itself by Monday"….

    • Same. They are pretty ordinary.

      • Same happened to me. I spoke with support and they advised to email through your documents with your application reference number to [email protected]
I got approved 3 or 4 business days later

  • Approved here - and like others am down to ~25days to spend the $500.

Just trying to keep simple and spend the $500 as easily and usefully as possible - would gift cards like Woolies/WISH cards bought through Cash Rewards qualify or might they show up as a 'cash advance'? Looks like it's highly likely they'd NOT be eligible:
    https://www.finder.com.au/what-is-defined-as-a-cash-advance

Maybe giftcards via Australia POst shop or Ebay?

    Thanks in advance for feedback.

    • They mention AusPost in conditions, will exclude these transactions

    • Never been charged a cash advance fee for buying a woolies gift card in my life. Pay an insurance policy in advance (health, car, house etc)… Water bill (privatised in SA at least).. electricity.. whack $100 on to each.

      • +1

FWIW I contacted Woolies Gift Cards, amazingly they replied back very rapidly - they stated they'd never heard of a customer being charged a cash advance fee - so is likely a safe option.

        • haha neg'd for going to the trouble of contacting Woolies Gift cards and sharing back what they said.

          Ok, sorry about that

  • Applied 29 Nov, and just got approved 9 Dec. 30 days countdown starts. Hopefully the card gets out in the next few days!

    • Not to burst the bubble but approved 2 Nov and no card at COB today. Been more than 7 days now.

      • +1

yeah what is going on, i don't like these stalling tactics.

        • -1

I wouldn't be surprised if kogan sends the cards after 31 days so no one can achieve the promotion. The kogan rule book is to screw customers.

          • -1

@watwatwat: Never had a problem with Kogan actually

          • @watwatwat: I got my car after a few days, but it had issues with payWave. Ordered new card on 4th, they said still coming tomorrow

      • Mine was approved on dec 3rd and I got the card today.

    • Got my card today 13 Dec. Had to register via app, as web registration was wonky…

  • +1

    Card finally arrived yesterday.

Was forced to use the mobile app to activate the card as the website activation on PC would not get past the first step (was hoping not to have to install the mobile app at all, but now it's activated, can uninstall).

    Website login here:

    https://cards.koganmoney.com.au/

Edit: You need to register for the free Kogan First Membership via Card Rewards (My Account -> Card Rewards) on Kogan.com, and do it within 40 days after your Kogan Money credit card is approved.

  • Been using it for past couple days, no issues here.

    • Have you tried using paywave ?

      • +1

I just used paywave and it worked no problem.

      • +1

        works fine

        • Got
          My replacement card today. Hopefully
          It works

  • +8

Just got my card and put >$500 of gift cards on it. Will update if anything further progresses.

    • +1

Thanks for doing this - appreciate you letting us know how it goes. :-)

    • +1

Any update on the purchase. and how would you know that its eligible? I purchased from the suncorp app 96$ coles (100$) ecard and i can see 96 points in my rewards now.

  • +1

Has anyone tried doing an AusPost BillPay, with payment via PayPal? I'm wondering whether the PayPal interface obscures the recognition that it is Australia Post. I know when I've done this in the past (on other cards), it shows up as: PAYPAL *AP ########## (numbers obscured with "#" for privacy reasons)

Saw someone else tried this earlier in thread and it didn't award any reward points. Better not. System is smarter than I expected.

  • Can i use paypal to make a payment? E.g make a purchase with paypal from bigw online.. Will that count towards the $500 purchase? Anyone? TIA

    • I made a paypal payment on an ebay transaction, and got charged an international transaction fee…. :/

      • Foreign seller or in foreign currency?

        • Foreign seller. On eBay au in aud

      • Probably as per Nikko said? I'd rather to use paypal when I purchase stuff online. My last target purchase shown as "TARGET ONLINE PURCHASE (VIA PAYPAL) so hopefully kogan will honour that as eligible purchase.

  • +1

Hmm well others might have been more lucky but I've found Kogan's app for the credit card to be horrible…..there was no Kogan.com account setup in the corresponding primary cardholders name - got an email sent saying 'Unlock the benefits of your card" but the SET PASSWORD link in email did nothing except say 'Unsuccessful' - trying manual resent also did not work as no email was sent.

Ended up having to send a msg to them via their Card system which I am very dubious they will action. Seems their systems are a real mess!

Honestly 1/2 of me wants to just can the card and not worry about the promo BUT I figure I've suffered the main pain already so just want to pump and dump them and be rid of the kogan bane.

Yikes poor sods who sign up for their superannuation products!

  • It's a credit card so it goes without saying BUT MAKES SURE YOU SETUP YOUR AUTO DIRECT PAYMENT so you don't get pinged with interest charges:
    https://www.koganmoney.com.au/ufaqs/what-is-direct-debit-aut…

    • cant see any option to do so in the app

      • +1

Doesn't surprise me - their app is horrible. I uninstalled it right away and did via desktop.

        • true that, set up the DD via desktop as well

  • Just got mine yesterday too. Any idea how to link it get Kogan First membership?

    • Go to Kogan website and click the kogan first link

      • Thanks, giving it a try now, haven't used my kogan acct for so long and forgot my password. Been waiting for more than half an hour for the pw reset link to be sent…

        • FWIW their site is VERY slow at sending PW reset links, it took around 6hrs for me yesterday- I got 4 of them arriving all at once but this was waaaaaaay after I'd requested them - very odd and annoying.

      • How does kogan know you are a black card holder, so they dont charge you 99$ after 14 days

I have linked my kogan card to my account & used the kogan black card to "pay" for the first membership.

        Is that all thats required?

        • You type in your credit card number on the kogan first link within the kogan website

          • @Danstar: So do you add the Kogan First 14 day trial to your cart, then checkout and pay with Kogan Credit Card?

  • still waiting to get approved…….

    • From the Black Friday deal? Yikes thats really slow - might want to query them on it or perhaps upload some more supporting docx.

On a sidenote, relieved my friend needed a new fridge today so used by card for that - so well over the $500 spend requirement and won't have to mess around with WW gift cards etc (though I feel thats a decent way to get value IF you've nothing else to buy).

  • +1

Is there anyway to bpay to pay off my Kogan credit card, I don't really want Kogan direct debiting my bank account…

    • Yes you can. Read the help section in the app. It’s the first point

      • Excellent thank you

      • and is the advantage of using this as opposed to Bpaying from your bank account is that you'll get some Kogan credit points? are there any fees for using a credit card to Bpay?

  • How do you link a Kogan account?

    • Create and login to your Kogan.com account, and then look for the Saved Credit Cards menu item (I think that's how you 'link' it).

      • Was told on live chat that the cc doesnt need to be linked as long as you have a kogan account opened with the same email used at the time of cc creation.

    • +1

go to Card Rewards under Account Details

  • +4

Spent over $500 on the activated cc. Went through app chat and was told that there needs to be a kogan account with the same email (as used at time of cc application) and it will take upto 10 weeks from end date of approval period (that is 30 days) for the $500 credit to come. SO much for the kogan credit ….. and yes its not a good experience to be forced to download an app to go through live chat that cant be saved anyways.

    Will keep the group informed.

Kogan gift card 10% OFF at Woolies from Wed 18th Dec, perhaps spend with Kogan credit card to meet $500 spending then combine with Kogan $500 gift card for better purchasing power at Kogan when they have specials on :).

Im looking at obtaining about $550 worth of Kogan gift card at Woolies on Wed 18th Dec, then wait for $500 Kogan gift card/voucher, combine together to get an iPhone 11, so, instead of signing up JB $65/month for 12-month for $500 discount, this is much better way to get iPhone 11 without compromise :)

  • +1

Still waiting for mine to be approved. They keep asking for proof of income, I keep uploading it. The automated phone system is now telling me to fax the proof of income! Fax!
Think I'll just give up on this one, the support seems non existent.

    • I had the same issue. I got onto chat and was told to send my proof to [email protected] with the application number in the subject. was approved 2 hours later.

      • Thanks. Phoned them and got approved quite quickly. No mention of the $500 credit in my approval email though!

  • +1

There support is terrible - not so bad on the credit card side but Kogan account support is hopeless

  • Does anyone have any reward points listed here?

    https://cards.koganmoney.com.au/apps/customerservice/rewards…

I can see some at the link below, but nothing on the Kogan Money site above?

    https://www.kogan.com/account/dashboard/cardrewards/kogan/

Here is a response from Kogan on linking to get the free Kogan First membership:

"To take advantage of the kogan first membership, you can follow the steps below:

    1. Register online at Kogan. com using the email address provided on your kogan black card application
    2. Go to “card rewards” and link your kogan money black card. Once linked, Kogan first membership will be automatically activated.
    3. To check, you can go to “Kogan first” tab and you should see a message saying “ Kogan First Membership is active while you have a Kogan Money Black Credit Card" "

There customer service and verification team are hopeless. Waited over 10 business days and still haven't heard anything. Called them, and couldn't even understand the person over the phone. Said something about the background check still taking place and blah blah. Now i don't even know how long more i need to wait.

  • Can I pay electricity bill with this card to achieve $500 spend

    • no

      • Why not?

    • +1

Safe way is to buy giftcards on sale in Woolies, e.g. Kogan/Google/Ultimate/Uber giftcard. You have four weeks to choose what you want to spend on. Kogan money will only know you spend $500 in Woolies on groceries.

You can not use eGC to buy them anyway.
