      • Can I use the card to purchase the eGift Cards on Kogans website which are currently 10% off as well to get my $500 spend so I can the bonus?

        • Maybe - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/8038047/redir

I don't see giftcards being stated as not eligible BUT they might classify them as cash advances (as some card vendors do) especially as it's through their own store.

You'd really have to call them to be certain - it's a good idea and I thought the same when I saw that promo - but I don't think it's a sure thing but quite possible and I'd lean towards saying it SHOULD be ok but thats just my opinion as I suspect Kogan would be quite happy to take your $$$ on giftcards on their own stuff as eligible purchases. :-)

    • Does anyone know if I can cancel the credit card after i've received the credit?

      • +1

        It is in the T&C:
Your Kogan Money credit card must remain open and in good standing, and your Kogan.com account must remain open for the $500 Kogan.com Credit to be credited

        • Oh right, so If I were to just have my card for 12 months, and cancel after 12 months would I still have the $500 credit?

          • +1

@graceyym: But wouldn't you want to use the $500 credit?
Otherwise there is little value in the 'deal'

            • @GG57: Yes I would make sure I use the $500 credit before I cancel. I wonder how long after your purchase you would need to wait to get the $500 bonus credit.

              • +2

@graceyym: Did you have a look at the site?

    • +1

Applied for this a few weeks ago and got instantly denied on the last page.

      I can easily afford it.

Citibank really are a very strange organisation when it comes to allowing people become customers.

Thanks for the credit enquiry too..

      • +1

Same happened to me. I tied 3 times then it finally got approved.

        • +3

Lol what? Do you mean you applied for this same card multiple times within a short period? and it eventually worked?
Did you credit rating keep tanking until citi deemed you a healthy credit risk so they finally accepted you?
I used to get instantly denied for citi cards too but was accepted for this one for some reason.

          • @DerpFactory: yes i applied 3 times with a week then finally i was approved

      • +1

Citi are dodgy as with their assessments. Definitely fishing probability wise for more profitable applicants.

      • +1

Same here, applied last month and rejected a couple days later, my income and liabilities were unchanged from prior apps.

I was on the Virgin Money card prior to this so that was probably the reason for rejection given they're all Citibank issued. Funnily enough they did not do a credit enquiry before rejection in my case.

    • +2

Guys, here is my overall plan.

Kogan currently has 10% off their Kogan Gift cards so I was planning on purchasing $540 worth which would get me $600 Kogan Credit on my account using the Kogan Black Credit Card within 30 days of approval.

      1) Get approved for Kogan's Black Credit Card
      2) Purchase $540 worth of gift cards (gift card value $600) at 10% off to rack up my min $500 spend on my Kogan Black Credit Card within the first 30 days of approval.
      3) Eventually (not sure when) I should be get send the $500 Kogan Bonus credit for spending $500 within the first 30 days right.

So basically I would get $1100.00 of credit value at Kogan for only $540.00?

Anyone see any issues with doing this? Worst case the Giftcards are full price again & I'd pay $500 worth of gift cards that are valid for 36 months, and get my bonus $500 credit making my spend $500 for $1000 value.

      • I'd imagine gift cards don't count towards the spend, at least their own gift cards.

        • What do you mean Own gift cards? How would I purchase the gift cards for 10% off at Woolies? Can I purchase it online and do I get it instantly like the Kogan one?

      • +1

        Interesting idea! May consider this.

      • Seems like a good combination of ideas. That is if you were going to spend $1100 at Kogan anyway…

  • How long did it take everyone to get approved? And can I start spending as soon as I get approved or do I need to wait until I receive the physical card?

    • +2

3 days and you need to wait for physical card which arrived 2 days later.

      • Oh damn, that sucks because I've been needing to place a $500 order on Kogan anyway. Thanks for that!

      • Sent through my application at about 1:05pm, and got an approval email at 1:35pm same day. So I'm approved so I have to wait for the physical card to arrive which could be anywhere between 5-7 days.

      • you're pretty lucky, it took a whole week for my card to arrive.

  • Is the $500 credit valid for an unlimited period?

    • +1

      12 months

    • 12 months from date credited.

  • -2

Can anyone tell me if there is a minimum purchase value for the $500 credit? Or can you just spend it on heaps of individual transactions? I hope it's not something like "Spend $700 to get $500 credit". Couldn't find the info in their T&Cs.

  • Approved. But havent received any email yet.

  • How quickly can you cancel this card?

    • +5

      Immediately.
Unless you want the $500 credit.

  • I am also doing a balance transfer. Does anyone know, if I spend $500, will it mean that if I pay $500 onto account, will be deducted from the BT first or spending first? BT is 0% for 12mth and purchase rate is over 20%

    • +1

If you BT then you should not use the card at all or you will be charged interest on all spending before the BT is paid off. All purchasing goes "on top" of the BT they are not in a "separate" credit account.

This is a trap cc companies use to lure unsuspecting card holders.

Put your BT card in the draw until the BT is paid off.

  • +1

Will buying Qantas car insurance count as an eligible purchase? Thanks!

    • It should. That isn't a Government transaction.

    • should be fine, i always prepay insurance to help me get over these credit card spending thresholds.

  • So would buying woolies gift cards through cashrewards at 5% off work or is that consider a special promotion? any thoughts

  • Applied yesterday and got approved today. Just waiting for the card to arrive now

  • +1

Tried to apply today. Entered in all information and went to next step to attach documentation and got message "Thank you for your interest in a Kogan Money credit card. Unfortunately, based on the information you provided, we are unable to approve your application at this time".

Only thing I can think of it being is closed a Coles Money credit card today (also issued by Citibank).

Maybe will try again tomorrow as some people have mentioned needing to apply multiple times

    • Just did the same thing and closed my coles card last week, was rejected last time probably due to high credit limits. Reapplied today, will check on the outcome

      • +1 here same issue. Won't be reapplying however.

        • +1

Just got approved for the Kogan card, can confirm cancelling the Coles card opens this up

  • I applied on black Friday and got my card about a week later. Passed the spending cap on the first weekend. Anyone know when I should expect the credit?
And what's peopkes thoughts on keeping the card solely for the Kogan first membership? I have no intention of using the credit card again.

    • $0 annual fee so doesn't hurt to keep around as a backup

    • +1

I believe they said credit will be available like 10 weeks after you did the spend (in the fine print somewhere).

On a previous offer from kogan, my credit came through in like 4-5 weeks.

      • Thanks mate.

  • +3

Applied today and was approved with credit limit 30K three hours later. 100K income, 80K credit limit across few cards one of which is with Citi. Now my total credit limit on all cards is higher than my income. Go figure.

  • i am paying my zip account with Kogan, l guess this doesn't count?

  • Is there anyway that you can get your Kogan credit card details emailed to you if you won't be home to pick up the physical card when it gets delivered (on vacation). Would be good to have the change to spend $500 before the new promotion end date of 31st December but at this rate seems unlikely.

    • 31 Dec is a deadline for application, you need spend $500 from the date it was approved.

  • Does anyone know when the cutoff date for the $500 Kogan credit bonus was? I had a text stating "application received" at about 4pm aest on Friday 6th December and as I recall I had clicked through from the offer stating the $500 bonus. I was finally approved several days later. It is hard to get a clear idea of eligibility. I remember taking a screenshot but can't quite find it now :(

  • Anyone received the $500 yet?

    • +2

Fine print: The $500 Kogan.com Credit will be credited to your Kogan.com account up to 10 weeks after the end of the 30 day qualifying period.

Advise reading the fine print on credit cards before signing up :) or the comment a few comments up..

      • +6

Yes, I can't imagine Kogan or Citi wanting to hand a single cent of those credits over until the last possible minute. I can also imagine a lot of people will have to chase them up as there will be unforseen 'clerical errors' meaning folks don't get them unless they chase…..I'd be very happy to be wrong but am dubious about the integrity many orgs apply when doing promos like this.

Definitely diarise it and follow up if you don't get proper treatment.

        • Agree, i used to use Mealpal and it was a complete farce. The $50 Coles signup voucher took like half a year to arrive. I unsubscribed from them the moment I got my overdue gift card.

  • Approved and just received the card Applied on Black Friday, had to call them a couple of weeks ago to push the approval.

Can anyone link their card to Google Pay and make payments?

    • +1

it doesn't work with Apple Pay so i suspect doesn't work either Google Pay either.

  • Got rejected, no bad credit 2 closed cc and 1 active cc with amex.
No reason and over 750 credit rating.
Oh well.. what did you guys do? Reapply or appeal?

    • +1

I reapplied twice before getting approved.

      • +1

so you just applied again straight after you got rejected?

    • I'm appealing mine, similar situation to yourself

  • +2

How do i know if the purchases i made are counted towards the $500 spent to get the credit?
I already made a few transactions and they have gone through successfully (ie not pending anymore), but i still have zero rewards points? Are restaurants/fast food eligible?

    • +1

I decided to use the chat function in the kogan app. I asked if my transactions counted towards the $500 spend, Assistant told me the sum of transactions that counted, as well as the remaining amount that i need to spend to unlock the credit.
There is also a delay in rewards points being awarded during the weekend.
Overall i think the chat function is really great, the app is a little slow to sign in but pretty good.

    • +1

Points should be ready to apply to eligible products purchase now. It may take a few hours after transactions settle.

  • Did anyone buy Woolies GC and got their Kogan Credits? Thanks

    • I haven’t purchased any Woolies GCs or for my credit. Hope this helps…

    • -1

Future me did, ended up well. got the $500 ;)

    • I got my rewards credit from purchasing the Woolies wish card, also got points from paying my bills via PayPal.
Everything stays pending for ages with this card.

      • Thanks mate. I will buy the Woolies GC as well.

      • @wantone how long did it take for you to see the rewards credit? where do you see the credit? cheers

        • +1

Sorry I didn't take notice. Felt like a week once it was off pending. Unless I calculated it wrong it is hard to pin point what points I got for what.

      • +2

"pending for ages" is good feature with a credit card. In many cases, the spend occurred 2 days before statement issurance day will not be settled in the current month and you have more interest free days(55+) on purchase.

  • Was approved on the 10th, card didn't arrive till the 27th.. Didn't realise I needed to spend $500 from the date of approval. Better get spending!!

  • Reading the T&C's in the letter of offer that came with the card, this is a no annual fee for life card (not just first year). Probably not worth keeping other than for Kogan first membership.

Anyone got their credit under 10 weeks?

    And

Anyone know a number to call rather than needing to use their chat service through the 73mb app?

    • Ring 1300 415 445 and follow the options to speak to someone.

      • Cheers

      • No luck with that number. It goes to Citibank. Looks like app chat and app chat only.

        • I found the app chat to be quite good. You can also call them within that chat if you prefer to speak over the phone.

          • @frogduck: I have had major issues reporting to them that the form to request an additional card does not work.
Twice I sent an online enquiry, getting a useless answer from someone who did not bother to read the query (sent from a no-reply email address). Even after telling them the form is broken, they instructed me to fill it out.

They push you towards chat, but the application often times out before they attend to you, and even then you have to keep sending messages to avoid the application throwing you out.

I'm only in it for the $500 credit. Admittedly, getting $0.01 per dollar to spend at Kogan isn't bad either if you are in the market for a phone. It's better than the earn rate from Citibank Signature, even when converting to Flybuys to buy wishcards.

            • @Make it so: Where did you get stuck on the form? I just tried on a desktop and it showed up but I didn't submit because I don't need an additional card holder (also only wanting it for the $500 credit really).

              • @frogduck: After submission it asks for One Time Pin, it then asks to confirm the details. If you try to confirm and submit, it says you don't have access to apply for secondary cardholder.

                • @Make it so: Ah yes, didn't make it that far! I guess the chat isn't as useful as I thought! I pretty much only asked them about the card approval and they were pretty good with that info.

  • +1

Seems to good to be true, but applied and got approved within 24 hours. Went for the minimum credit limit ($6k) so maybe that helped.

    • I find it crazy that the upper limit is only $100,000 … lol!

    • And just got my card in the mail, very impressed with everything so far.

Also confirmed via chat that Woolworths vouchers via cash rewards are counted towards $500 spend

  • If I use the card using PayPal, will it count to $500 spend? If yes, how will they (Kogan) know what I spent it on? Will it show like BigW (via PayPal) or just PayPal against the transaction??

Just wondering if they will be able to calculate my 500$ spend properly in that case or not?

    • +1

My other credit card shows the vendor and location for PayPal purchases if that helps.

      • +1

Thank you. I checked by ordering. It does show the vendor details. So PayPal transactions are fine.

I also placed Woolworths gift cards order to make it above 500. And today contacted Kogan on chat to confirm if that transaction is eligible. They said I am now eligible and just need to wait 10 weeks. Took screenshot in case there is dispute in future.

Overall the deal is cool!! And didn't have any issues.

        • I did the same :) wait is on!

  • Pulled the trigger, but no confirmation email of application yet… lucky I took screenshots but still impatiently waiting

    • +1

      They take a week.

    • +1

Declined. First time in a long while this has happened despite a great credit score.

They called me to reconfirm the information I provided, declined shortly after the phone call.
