50000 Telstra Plus Rewards Points for Direct Debit

5381

Was just checking my services in the Telstra app and there is a banner advertising 50000 plus points for signing up to direct debit, that’s a bit more than what it costs for a redemption on a pair of Samsung Galaxy Buds so seems generous, previous deal as 4K of points.

  • I had an existing DD, went on Telstra chat and I am eligible for 50k points. Will be added 7 days after next DD is taken. They sent me a text message as confirmation. Stoked….I think.

  • Try this - airplane mode so app doesn't display your mobile service from your phone number, wifi on and login to telstra account.

  • I am on month to month postpaid $50 per month 15gb. Tried to uninstall then install few times. Only Xbox showing 😡

  • Has anyone enquired if a business account is eligible

  • I got 100000 points because I have 2 accounts. Easy money. Thanks Telstra.

  • Try the chat if you're not currently on direct debit. Operator said it's for anyone not currently on DD. Sign up to telstra plus and then do direct debit signup. Be sure to save chat at the end.

  • Activated old device to try this and still got the same offer :@

    Will try via chat

  • +1

    Tried chat no deal. :(

    • Why not?

      • "Must not currently be on direct debit, points applied after first direct debit".

Not trying removing dd and going on again since been long time since my first dd which is already recordered on account.

        Targeted indeed.

    • Yeah, the chat consultant wouldn't honour it for me either, and it took about 2 hours to even get an answer out of them. Pretty poor service tbh

      • Same 2 hours.

  • Chat said "if you're eligible you will get a banner and/or email, then if you sign up you will automatically get points"

    …..

  • I am not eligible.😢

Only xbox showed, tried all means, no luck.I asked 24x7, confirmed if it is not showed on your app, then not eligible.

  • Waited on chat for an hour and had them confirm I was eligibile if I enrolled now even if I didn’t see the banner. (I cancelled my direct debit 20min before going on chat). Saved a copy of the transcript :)

The guy on my live chat said actually the offer is 6000 points for me. His name is John Edward so while I'm sad about missing out on the 44,000 points I did get to speak to my dead cat from 1998!

    • Did he speak to the dead (deals)?

  • +5

"Let's run a campaign to increase the use of direct debit"

Bunch of people suddenly cancel direct debit

  • I’m so confused by this, got the banner, no sign up for Direct Debit options in app. Contacted chat. Chat guy said he cannot tell me if I am eligible for offer, sms will be sent tomorrow for those eligible. I said well that’s false advertisement as the banner appears in my account, He responded with, no it’s real advertisement, sms will be sent to eligible customers tomorrow. I asked Am I eligible? He said, you will find out tomorrow if you receive a text. I reiterated that the banner should not be in my account if I’m not eligible as that’s false advertisement, this went on and on and he kept saying “got it” which was weird. I asked him how to set up DD and he said, you do it in your app. I said I can’t, there’s no option. Please give me directions, he didn’t, I gave up and disconnected,

Next chat. Was told promo was real but only for eligible customers. And directed me to direct debit page, I set it up and asked if because I set up DD and got the banner, I’m guaranteed the points, She said she could not confirm, if I am, I will receive the points in 45 days.

WTF!? This is the most confusing and annoying promo ever lol

    • WTF!? This is the most confusing and annoying promo ever

You can say that again. Do they want DD or not? 🤔

      • Not sure why someone downvoted my comment, I thought it was valid to the promotion. As I got conflicting unclear information from two Telstra Support workers.

  • +1

I got out of bed for this.

  • Just got on a chat with "Kenneth"….
    Kenneth was useless..

Asked him for T&C's and he says he doesn't have access to them as it's an in-app offer.

Asked him if my wife is eligible as she's on same plan as me (JB hifi 65$) and isn't on DD yet - said he has no idea. Offer may be sent in batches..

Asked him if he knew how long the promotion was going for… told me he doesn't know either…

  • Can you sign up for dd if your pre paid? I got the banner but when I click on it just goes to my profile.

    • +1

How can you sign up for direct debit if it’s prepaid?

  • no luck with telstra chat and boost chat. They said it is the system automatically choose the eligible customers. They can't do anything. Boost one even didn't check my account.

  • Did anyone get their chat sent to them afterwards? Confirmed they would offer it to me, input my email address but never got the chat sent through!

    • have you set up dd before?

      • Yeh, it was the third chat person I spoke with, was asking about my partner's account and she said "Yes she will be eligible for the 50,000 points" after checking her account, she went on to mention it's for those signing up to DD for the first time, so will be interesting.

Also spoke with them on behalf of my sister who doesn't have DD setup but didn't have the banner either and they confirmed she would get the offer too.

One rep said within 30 days of signing up to DD, the other rep said after the first DD takes place.

Sadly though haven't seen either of the chat transcripts come through.

        • I got my chat transcript straight away. I spoke with Erica Mae who confirmed I would be elegible by checking my account

  • +1

Cancelled DD and set it up again. You never know, with Telstra's systems.

  • +2

Cancelled my DD, which has now gone through. No banner change yet though… Still just xbox

    • +1

      Still no banner =(

    • +1

Spoke to chat and got this from Daniel:

"Yes, everyone is eligible for 50,000 Testra Points for encouraging our customers to set up direct debit so they can avoid having late fees, service restriction etc.

After you apply for direct debit though you haven't seen any banner as normally it shows on 24x7 App on mobile, the points will reflect within 3 business days after you register to direct debit

Cool, if you already done setting up direct debit, expect to see this on your account within 3 days :)"

  • +2

They'll probably lose more direct debits than they'll gain due to people trying to get the offer… LOL

    • +1

They did lose one! Just cancelled my direct debit!

  • Confirmed via chat. No queue at this time lol. Emailed myself transcript. Haven't seen banner though trying clearing cache, uninstall and clearing data with no success.

  • I signed up a couple hours ago. Now account is showing "Auto direct debit is active". Points balance is unchanged.

  • Signed up for dd and took a screenshot of 50k banner hopefully all goes well

  • +1

Keeps telling me that I am over my debit limit. Cancelled it as it was way too confusing

    • Hey buddy, any chance you could send me the screenshot?

    • Spoke to a representative and they confirmed that I am eligible and reactivated it again

  • Signed up as well, but there is no mention of the offer or T&C once you go to the signup page (I can see it on the Services page). Hopefully gets processed automatically, I have taken a screenshot of the offer just in case.

  • My account is always in credit. Im worried I will miss out due to that. I bpay each week to make sure my next bill is more than covered and to split my bill up rather than a lump sum.

So i signed up for direct debit as the offer was there and I am eligible according to the representative I spoke yo on chat. But since the points dont apply until after the first transaction, i assume im waiting until a month after my next bill is paid?

If so my direct debit date is the 22nd of the month. So the next one would be December 22nd but I wont need to pay anything. Meaning January 22nd before I actually have a direct debit transaction.

I feel like I will end up missing out if that's the case. Unless not owing anything on the 22nd counts as a successful transaction. But I kind of doubt that will be the case

  • Just got off live chat, advised me Not to sign up to DD if I don’t see the offer on my account or the app as I’m probably not eligible for it :(
Which is weird as I don’t have that setup, that sucks but ah well, this is Telstra we’re talking about.

    • Are you already signed up as a Telstra Plus Rewards member? This is part of the promotional terms on top of not having DD already setup.

      • Yes I am a member and always pay bill in time.

  • Thanks OP. Would never have noticed it. Next bill payment is on 12th, so will know after that if I get the 50K points.

  • No offer for me, I am on a month to month NBN plan but my account description is 'post paid'.

  • +2

If your partner is on Telstra too, just transfer your partner's points to your account and get Beats Solo 3 for free!

    • Wow didn’t know you can transfer points! That makes for some fun times

      • Not 100% sure…but needs a request made to the customer care

        • Yeh just saw in the program FAQs that points can be transferred! Thanks for the heads up :-)

  • Signed up, will see how long it takes. If only they had PS4 or Xbox one consoles in their rewards store?

    • If they were available on the store their points value would be jacked up heaps. Get a reward that's on special that you can sell for a decent price and put that money towards a ps4/xb1 when they're on sale.

  • I've never done DD with Telstra and I don't see the offer, /sigh

  • +1

Just spoke to chat: From the T&Cs
Its actually a below the line offer reason why its now offered to all customer , as whats happening is other customer is deleting the direct debit and re adding it. Doing this wont give you bonus points as we have records of those who's eligible for the Plus points.

On the Description of the below the line offer :

    It states -
We’re rewarding customers with 50,000 bonus Telstra Plus points when they set up Direct Debit.

This offer will be promoted in the Telstra 24x7 app and My Account.

    Eligibility Customers must:

    Be enrolled in Telstra Plus

Be presented with this offer in either NBA or the 24x7 app

To be eligible for the Direct Debit points, they must not already be on Direct Debit or have had Direct debit.

So according to Telstra, anyone who has EVER had a DD set up is ineligible.

    • Contradictory to what I was told:

"Yes, everyone is eligible for 50,000 Testra Points for encouraging our customers to set up direct debit so they can avoid having late fees, service restriction etc.
After you apply for direct debit though you haven't seen any banner as normally it shows on 24x7 App on mobile, the points will reflect within 3 business days after you register to direct debit.

Cool, if you already done setting up direct debit, expect to see this on your account within 3 days :)"

Although this does not confirm that if you have had DD set up in the past that you are eligible…

    • Thanks mate, very helpful. Don't think i've ever setup DD so fingers crossed.

    • Just had a chat with a rep and this is exactly what I was told. I was not eligible because I had DD setup previously.

  • Will this work on a telstra business account

    • +1

Nope, business customers are totally excluded from Telstra Plus.

  • Might have been asked earlier, too lazy to read 4 pages of comments but what if direct debit is already set up on your account?

    • +1

      Eligibility Customers must:

      Be enrolled in Telstra Plus

Be presented with this offer in either NBA or the 24x7 app

To be eligible for the Direct Debit points, they must not already be on Direct Debit or have had Direct debit.

So according to Telstra, anyone who has EVER had a DD set up is ineligible.

      • +4

        That's pretty crap.

      • +3

No surprise there. Telstra is known for not rewarding its loyal customers.

        • +1

          Sometimes they surprise us..

          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/373668

        • Yes, I informed chat that I'd seen conflicting info. She said that there were receiving a lot of requests about the offer. I told her to pass up the line the notion that missing out on an offer like this will simply annoy their loyal customer base.

    • +1

It will … too lazy to finish writing

  • Just asked a telstra rep on 24x7 chat: "Thank you, this offer is limited to selected customers who are deemed eligible only and they will receive an invitation via 24/7 App." I don't have a DD setup but I must not have been deemed eligible because the offer doesn't appear in my app.

    • Is you app up-to-date?

  • +1

This is annoying, I have a Prepaid Mobile account with Telstra that the offer shows up in the App but of course there is no ability to set up DD for Prepaid. I've also added my mum's Internet account to the app so I can manage some stuff for her and the offer doesn't show up when I view this account in the app. I get the XBOX ad instead.

    • Try to open the Xbox ad first from the app, then go back to the app, the 50,000 points offer should appear. This is how I get the offer

      • Thanks for the suggestion. I still get the XBOX ad after clicking on it and going back to the app.

    • Try clearing your cache on the Telstra App, thats how i got it to come up.

  • +1

On Telstra with DD set up, via chat

Operator: what I'm going to to do for this I will lodge webform for this in order to apply the 50,000 points on your Tesltra Points account, Would that be great?

    • Legit? what did you say to get them to give you the points?

      • +2

        Literally copied this question:
        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/503118?page=1#comment-8073…

Bit of chit chat and while he processed. Didn't meet much resistance

        • "We cannot have this applied as points are system generated."

          • @LolComputers: Got told on chat, asking the same as above, that I was not eligible and that those loyal customers wrongly given points from rogue advisers would have them revoked. Informed them that they’d have a lot of cancellations on their hands if they did that.

        • Went back on the chat to see if it had actually been done, and was told they couldn't see anything. Kicked up a bit of a fuss and may or may not have been given a monthly discount off my current plan (on top of my existing discount).

  • How much are Telstra points worth? Have 5000

  • Also how long do you have to have the direct debit active for so they don’t cancel the points

  • +3

my house is going to be full of google homes!

    • By the time Telstra honor those points, they be out of stock :)

  • +8

Wouldn't be a Telstra chat thread without 10 different conflicting answers from their customer service reps!

  • I got it, registered

    Thanks op

  • Oh God the app is terrible, how do I know I successfully signed up? It took $1 from my card but yet when I go to direct debit I can sign up again?

    • takes 3 days apparently to process the DD

  • I'm on prepaid and yet somehow got this deal. Should I just sign up to a sim plan then lmfao

  • My advice to everyone not seeing the offer is to give live chat a try.

I already had a DD set up (which I cancelled this morning) and only just signed up to Telstra rewards this morning also. Surely I would not qualify.

However, whether by error or not, the live chat person said I was definitely eligible if I signed up for a DD right away. They said the 50,000 points would be credited following the next bill paid via the direct debit. So I will just wait and see, then throw the chat transcript at them if it doesn't come through.

  • I don't trust telstra for a minute so I signed up for the offer and set DD to come from one of my spare bank accounts with $0.00 balance in it (just signed up to test features then never closed it) with Nil charges for being overdrawn that way I can just deposit the exact amount of my bill each month to be Debited out that way they can't overcharge me like they have in the past.

Also after a couple bills and points come through I can cancel it off from the bank side and not deal with telstra dragging their feet to do it from their end.

    • +1

I hadn't set up DD so I always had options if there were errors on the bill. Easier to have them correct when they are awaiting your payment vs waiting on them to credit you. I set up my DD with my debit card and not my bank acct as the card can always be cancelled.

      • Me as well I never use direct debit if I can help it with any of my bills but just signing up purely for this offer and not permanently

    • You might have trouble there. I used debit Visa and it immediately processed a $1 charge, presumably for verification.
