50000 Telstra Plus Rewards Points for Direct Debit

5381

Was just checking my services in the Telstra app and there is a banner advertising 50000 plus points for signing up to direct debit, that’s a bit more than what it costs for a redemption on a pair of Samsung Galaxy Buds so seems generous, previous deal as 4K of points.

    • Ahh wish you’d said that sooner, fortunately card expires soon

  • Are people setting the over on the android app, or is this only IOS?

    • +1

      Android

      • On the android app I only have the xbox banner. Tried clearing cache, data, reinstalling, adding fingerprint. No luck so far.

        • +1

I just kept swiping down, to refresh, until it came up. Only took a couple but the deal does say targeted so maybe not everyone gets it.

        • me too. uninstalled and installed twice but no luck. I cancelled DD so will see if I get it.

Can anybody paste the direct link of the offer here please? Thanks!!!

    • +1

Literally what I've been asking the live chat for ages now for…

    • +1

Couldn’t get it on the website - when you click the banner in app it just takes you to the profile tab in app

      • Thanks for the reply! Appreciate it!!!

  • Anyone know if any credit on my account be used for bill payment before a DD is taken??

    • From memory, yes.

  • hey guys,
Telstra Rep says: "Yes! cause your one of the selected customer who can have it based on our system-generated details."

    • +1

      do you already setup DD?

      • Not yet
Rep said if it shows on your phone , once you DD it points will be in your account

      • No, I was pushing rep to activate for me

    • did you reply and say you're ?

  • Chat rep said I'll get 50k too. :)

Hope they don't suddenly raise the prices of everything on the store by 50k.

    • +1

You have 3 years to use your points

    • What did you actually say? I've been rejected so far lol

      • +2

Telstra chat is a lottery, you just have to keep on trying.

      • Just said others are getting points, can I get some too lol

        • They just did something super weird and sketchy. Called me up and told me to close the live chat. Made sure I closed the live chat then they transferred me to some other random support person without giving them any context lol

          • @jazattack: Because they think offer not real but taking payment info = best not talk about it to not get transcripted lol

  • I’m postpaid have never had direct debit have tried everybody’s suggestions and I still get the XBox ad :(. Is it worth contacting Telstra?

  • +1

I chat with one of the operator and was told this:

I have checked and so far, there's no notes on the account for the eligibility . Manual sign up for this promotion is not an available option but the promo is still ongoing so there is still a possibility of receiving the invite and being eiligible

    re link:
There's no available link for the offer since its an invite only offer
As per the terms and conditions, there's no specific information about this but here are the details available on our part :
-recieved the sms or email invite of have found a pop out notification on your app mentioning the offer
-Direct Debit Should remain active for 7 days
-Points will be applied automatically within 7 days after direct debit pauyment has been processed

  • +3

In a chat with them now. They are saying you're only eligible if your a first time DD user. :(

  • Must be targeted in some way. I have updated app, refreshed x 1million, cleared cache, uninstalled and re-installed app.. still getting xbox offer

    • i get the xbox ad in my service summary. TGIBF Ad in services and when i refresh this promo comes up.

  • Thanks op
Got it by refreshing the page

  • +8

Tried everything people have said to no avail. Out of spite I'm going to be cancelling my direct debit permanently.

  • The telstra phone support are now saying it's only 5,000 points. In for the ride now. Good luck all

    • +2

      screenshots everyone!

  • spoke to a rep and said "Alright the 50K points will be on your MyAccount within the next 7 business days" so hopefully I get it.

    • How'd you manage that with the rep lol

      • Incantation! lol

    • Same! Within 7 biz days after DD setup (not after DD payment date).
The customer rep was bombarded by my questions and was even telling me I would rcv the points today. haha

  • What happens if you have multiple bills and setup multiple direct debits?

  • Thanks OP. Signed up for Direct Debit just now.
Although when I first opened Telstra 24x7 app, it as showing some Black Friday Deals in the Services tab. I refreshed the Services tab and the 50000 bonus points offer popped up, signed up for it

  • Chat very unhelpful for me. Said if I'm eligible I'll see the banner and get the points. Couldn't tell me if I'm eligible or not.

  • I got the offer, attempted to add direct debit (didn't have it set up previously) but it threw an error when signing up. Then tried my bank account… Same error. Restarted app… Offer still there, still asks to join up on direct debit… But says I'm now signed up. So I have no idea if it worked or not!

  • Might not get honoured… fingers crossed..

Just keep trying the telstra website chat, got this after a few reps said nothing good:

    Telstra Rep - 19:40
Yes, correct, once you sign up, you would receive a 50,00 points applied towards your telstra plus.

    Telstra Rep - 19:40
Here is the link where you can set up

    Telstra Rep - 19:40
    https://www.telstra.com.au/setupdirectdebit

    Me - 19:40
Yeah i've went ahead and set it up since it directs you to, what do I do next?

    Telstra Rep - 19:41
That's it. It would be applied towards your account. It would be applied after you have paid your next bill.

    Me - 19:55
Yeah, if those points are going through on my account that's all I really needed to ask today
    Thank you

    Telstra Rep - 19:56
I can assure you those points will definitely be added. I ahve noted the account for you as well.

I can confirm that this offer is legit
Its really 50000, not a typo of 5000

To be eligible, you must not already have Direct Debit setup (so I guess cancel DD now might not trigger this, but lets try and see)
Points will come within 7 days after first DD payment has been processed

    • What are you confirming it based on?

      • +1

A friend who work in Telstra
Internal Telstra system called one source

Thanks, OP. Completed the Direct Debit set up.

Mine Was showing Xbox ads despite clearing the cache. For me, it worked this way :[Andriod] Setting > Apps > Telstra app > ClickForce Stop > Go to Storage > Hit Clear Data & Clear Cache.
Reopen the app then fill up the credentials.

  • Reply from chat.

    Thank you for waiting.

The promo for it only starts today, it means you are eligible for it if you just sign up for direct debit on your account today.

The said offer is only limited for the customers that don't have direct debit that was set up

You can see if you are eligible on it when you login on your MyAccount or 24 x 7 app.

  • Signed up and a mate did the same, he signed up well after me and already received an email. I'm yet to see anything.

Anybody else in the same boat? I signed up around 630pm.

  • Just wondering if anyone on cheaper plans have been targeted, Mrs and I are both on $40 plans and haven't been targeted it seems.

    • Mine's $35 and was targeted.

      • Thanks

    • Mine is $29 month (iPad)

I had Direct Debit set up and cancelled it. Then an hour later went on Telstra online chat and said that I heard about the offer but couldn't find it on my app. I asked if he could manually apply the offer if I signed up for Direct debit. He said that he can do that. However the 50,000 points will only show up 7 days after the first direct debit payment is made. I said that I had a bill due on 11 Dec and by 18th December, I would get credited with 50,000 points? He confirmed and asked me to get the chat emailed to me as proof if the points don't come through automatically.

    • I had pretty much the same convo but over the phone and was told if i add DD again it'll be 7 days from today. Got a reference number and told to call back in 7 days if the points have not come through.
Not expecting the points to come through, they're obviously just trying to palm us off, that's the business ethos at Telstra.
Will take up the fight in 7 days..

  • Umm are the reps contradicting each other? Cause the rep I spoke to said all postpaid customers will get the points. Told me to sign up to DD to get the points in 7 days :S They can't change their mind later after telling me so can they?

    • +7

I get told a different thing every time I talk to them

  • +1

Been trying for over an hour and getting every banner but

  • Awesome deal. Thanks ok. Hope they will honor it

  • +1

woah what a good deal. too bad i always set up direct debit instantly on more or less anything

  • +1

    Just confirmed over live chat.

So couldn’t see the offer in the app.

They just asked for my details, where I’d heard about it (said a friend), asked if I had DD set up, then confirmed I was eligible.

    Thanks OP👍

    • Should I just set up dd in the hope I get it

      • Personally I’d talk through live chat, confirm and then do it!

  • +1

Hey all, I got it working on my Android.

First it kept showing the xbox promo.

I just went to my phone settings, then force stopped and cleared cache.

I then opened the app and the points promo banner appeared on the services homepage

  • -1

i'm already on Direct Debit ! should I not be getting these points ?

    • I am NOT with Telstra. Should I NOT be getting these points?

        irrelevant

I never understand why loyal customers are treated worse than new ones. First the pixel deal for port in customers only now this

    • +1

      beets me

    • +1

With regards to the Pixel deal, let's say you have a $1 million marketing budget. You want to spend that $1 million to gain new customers which would bring in more revenue. You can spend some of that marketing budget on subsidising Pixels to accomplish that.

If you're an existing customer, you're not going to be growing their user base as you're already a customer. They'd just be giving money away to you. Some people would get annoyed and leave, but the vast majority wouldn't care and stay. So at the end of the day, promos like that will increase their user base which is what they want.

With this direct debit deal, what does it have to do with loyal or new customers? It rewards any customer, 1 month or 20 years loyal, to switch to direct debit. It'll presumably save them processing fees so they can use that savings to give out rewards points.

    • +1

They don't care about losing loyal customers.

For every one customer they lose to being pissed off, they're hoping to gain another 10 to improve their growth to keep investors happy come earnings call time.

That's why marketing budgets are so high, and loyalty rewards are few and far between.

      • +1

This. Loyalty rewards and losing customers doesn't move the needle like racking up new customers.

Loyalty is from a bygone era.

        • Loyalty is from a bygone era.

Hmm? Aren't these rewards points exactly how many businesses reward existing customers? Continue using their services and they'll reward you with points that you can get items with.

Use a credit card, get rewards points. Shop at Coles, collect Flybuys points. Buy coffee from your local coffee shop, get a stamp towards a free coffee.

  • +1

I cancelled my DD and talked to live chat. Said to add DD via the link they posted and should be applied within 7 days. I highly doubt this will go through, but saved the live chat just in case.
Funny enough, my last DD never processed (yesterday). So who knows with Telstra any more.

  • +3

Why not just give everyone who signed up to thier rewards program and have DD setup by a specific date to be eligible.

    Pure dog act from Telstra.

    • +3

      You have much to learn

    • That's not how hamster wheel rewards work :/

  • Thanks, screenshotted it just incase..

  • +2

Anyone on a Telstra JB HI-FI plan got this to work?

    • +2

Yes I'm on the JB plan and got targeted

    • Yes, I did. Just signed up my DD with my bank account but didn't get an email confirmation. Only got a confirmation screen.

  • +1

For anyone who was targeted: how long have you been with Telstra? I just ported over last month (to the JB plan) and can't see it on my screen, after trying every trick posted here.

    • 6 months

    • im technically still in my first month till tmr so maybe thats a requirement - will check again at midnight

    • 15 years

    • I signed up with JB a week ago and didn't get the deal, even checked on chat and they said I'm ineligible. I'm guessing you've at least need to have paid one bill to be targeted.

  • Showing only the Xbox deal on my Android phone. So installed the Telstra app on my wife's iPhone and login there. The promo shows and I added the direct debit.

But I did not received any confirmation email, just the confirmation from the app. It also showing as activated now in the app.

  • I just cancelled my DD and did a live chat. I asked if I was eligible, and agent checked my account and said yes I was eligible because I never had DD before. Hmm… When asking again if the points would come automatically or if I had to wait for the banner ad, he very carefully said that anyone that has not had DD setup before would have points applied automatically. So I guess I don’t have a leg to stand on if points don’t come through…

Also when I was ending the chat the agent was bolding text like no tomorrow!

Agent: Before I let you go, I want to make sure that I covered and fully resolved all your queries today.

Me: Yep all covered thank you

Agent: Have I completely resolved all your inquiries today?

Felt like I was talking to JV herself! ;)

    • Is jv a female?

      • That’s the rumour

      • Only at 20,000 leagues to the centre of the earth.

  • Seems too good to be true but lets see

  • Was also told that the points would be applied automatically once DD has been set up and only after a successful payment.

  • As long as you do not have dd setup. The points will be received 7 days after your first dd.
    Promo starts today. Not targeted.

  • +2

lol Telstra live chat got Ozbargained - position in queue: 18

    • I was 37. First time I have had to wait
