50000 Telstra Plus Rewards Points for Direct Debit

5381

Was just checking my services in the Telstra app and there is a banner advertising 50000 plus points for signing up to direct debit, that’s a bit more than what it costs for a redemption on a pair of Samsung Galaxy Buds so seems generous, previous deal as 4K of points.

  • For people wanting to capture a screenshot on their phone, try an iOS device/phone.
On my Android phone, it flashes once (after many tries), but I accidentally click on some other parts of the screen. On my old iPhone, that banner appears at the top of the Services, before the first service (even after the direct debit is setup).

So has anyone worked out the best thing to spends points on for potential profit?

  • Thanks OP!

  • +5

For those who tried cancelling DD (like me), it's not going to work. From two live chats, I got the same answer - offer only applies to first time DD sign-ups only. I will stay off DD as a form of silent protest …

    • Some have been told otherwise originally before word must have spread in the contact centre that it was first time DD so it’ll be interesting to see if they get it applied when all is said and done

      • Absolutely otherwise they're going to get a wave of cancellations on their hands and a bunch of annoyed customers being told differently and throwing screenshots at them lol

      • +3

Dealing with Telstra is always like playing lottery….

    • Bummer. Oh well.

    • +1

I cancelled DD, about 10 mins later I got the banner in the app when I refreshed it but when trying to set up a new DD it keeps giving me a blank page when I click the Date to pay. Edit: Just tried using the "pay my full bill" option and it worked a treat, hopefully I get my 50,000 reward points!

      • I think the difference is you have an outstanding bill to pay.

      • I cancelled DD yesterday, tried all the methods and still no plus points banner. Chat with Telstra and been told I am NOT eligible as their record shows I had DD with them before.

    • There is still a way:

      • Transfer the account to another family member's name.
      • Once transferred, have that family member setup DD.
      • Transfer the account back to you.
      • Setup DD.

It's a pain to transfer account with Tel$tra.

  • From talking with a rep:

    Rules
The offer must be presented to a customer via Next Best Action or the 24x7 App To be eligible for the Direct Debit points, they must not already be on Direct Debit
Points will be applied automatically within seven days, after the first Direct Debit payment has been processed Customers that remove Direct Debit within 6 months will not be eligible to retain the bonus points

    • What if we used up the bonus points? Does that mean Tel$tra will charge certain amount so customer needs to buy back the points? Or, we will have -50000 in the point balance?

  • So i am a returning Telstra customer, after porting out for a month and now back in via one of the JB deals. I dont have Direct debit setup on my new account and never have - im wondering as i was a previous customer with it setup on an old account, if this is affecting why it is not showing for me?

    Anyone else in this boat?

    2. Register for Direct debit by 13/12/2019

    3. Members who are enrolled will be able to see their bonus points in the 24x7 App or through My Account within 14 business days from after first successful Direct Debit payment. Customers who are not enrolled in Telstra Plus at the time of making their eligible purchase will see their bonus points within 14 business days from enrolment.

    4. By accepting the bonus points you agree to use them in accordance with the Telstra Plus terms and conditions, available at https://www.telstra.com.au/plus/terms-and-conditions and any point redemption terms and conditions that apply to the reward you utilise your Telstra Plus points for.

    5. Bonus points will be bestowed after you have had a bill paid by direct debit.

    6. Customers that remove Direct Debit within 6 months will not be eligible to retain the bonus points.

Also confirmed that it is 50,000 points, not up to which implied it could be a lesser amount.

    • Thanks, JamesM18! Does that mean exist DD customers can cancel and re-register DD by 13/12 and also get 50k bonus points?

      • Looks like it according to those
        T&Cs

      • Went to telstra chat and gave them the link. They still asked me if I had an existing DD setup and receive email notification of the offer. Told them I didn't (I cancelled mine yesterday).

Anyways they mentioned I should be eligible, and I double confirmed it if I do not need to wait for the sms/email offer. They said yes and confirmed its OK.

Have re-setup DD now.. will see how it goes.
Saved a transcript as well just in case.

    • +1

"6. Customers that remove Direct Debit within 6 months will not be eligible to retain the bonus points."

And what about if you spend those points?

      • I'm guessing everything good will be sold out and restocked within 6 months time.

    • I chat with Telstra again and showed them the link of T&C, the staff did not bother and keep saying it is for eligible customer only…

    • 6. Customers that remove Direct Debit within 6 months will not be eligible to retain the bonus points.

That sucks, but oh well, won't say no to 50,000 points.

  • Do you guys know when this offer appeared on the Telstra App?
Was it on the 3rd or 4th?

    • Appeared? Probably 4th based on the post. It is still showing on the App (I am looking at the iOS app). Had/have issues with Android version of the app. It hardly shows up on my Android phone. It did show up once today, but I had no idea what triggered it. Thought I try the iOS app and it is there constantly.

  • Telstra chat admitted that they seem to have missed the previously enrolled caveat:

    XXXXX - 15:03
so none of that says that previous customers are not eligible

    Jo Ann - 15:03
    Yes, that is right

    Jo Ann - 15:06
it seems T&Cs miss the part wherein it should be stated that previously registered direct debit that has been removed. it is not clearly stated in point
1.Successfully enrol in Telstra Plus (if they are not already enrolled) by 13/12/2019

    They confirmed I am eligible

    • So does that mean previously enrolled DD customers that cancel and re apply are eligible?

      • -1

Yes I was previously enrolled and they said because the T & Cs did not exclude I could get them.

        • I just chat with them a few minutes ago and they told me I am not eligible (I cancelled DD yesterday) as the promotion is only for customers never had DD set up. It is really confusing…

          • -1

@waverock: She said that first too and I asked which point in the T&Cs excluded existing customers and she agreed that it did not exclude them. She admitted it probably should say it but it doesn't so therefore eligible.

            • @leyton01: I did the same and asked which part in the T&C excludes existing customer setting up a new DD. The lady did not answer my question and keep saying it is targeted, if you did not get the offer banner, then you are not eligible. I will try different staff later.

          • @waverock: The T&Cs leave way too much room for interpretation.

Point 6 could be used against people previously on DD. If you were to cancelled it, then re-apply, would you trigger clause 6 - cancellation within 6 months will not be eligible? How does Telstra check this?

And, the T&Cs were changed slightly 3 hours ago. Anyway, if you read them, people weren't registered to the 24x7 will get the points before the first direct debit (assuming it is not due for another 14 days).

Also, what's the deal on not able to retain points? If you used up the points, cancel within 6 months, what happened? You need to pay for those points?

            • @netsurfer: Points 6 only says if cancel within 6 mths, the bonus points won't be retained - this is on the basis that you received bonus points already.

              • @waverock: So, if I enrolled in DD, cancelled after first payment but before the points are awarded, I would not get the points right? So, when is the exact starting point of cancellation detection? We are technically in the promotion period now.

Want as many people to get it, especially loyal customers, but Telstra are known to be nasty to existing customers. Frankly, people already on DD and paid through DD should automatically get the points now.

                • @netsurfer: the word retained is key here - it does not say not "eligible".

                  • @leyton01: So, will still get the points and then taken away?

Keen to know as I am seriously thinking about leaving Tel$tra. 6 months… That's too much. They are leeching my blood.

        • Jelly - 22:49 Alright. You may try to do those steps but I'm setting your expecatation that if you didn't receive the Telstra plus points it means you're really not eligible.

Me - 22:50 So how do you become eligible? What is the criteria?

          Jelly - 22:53 Eligibility
          Customers must:
          Be enrolled in Telstra Plus
Be presented with this offer in either NBA or the 24x7 app

Me - 22:53 Where is that from?

Jelly - 22:54 That is what we have here in the system.

So looks like we can go ahead and set up direct debit, but if you have not been sent the offer on the app, you'll not receive the points. So much conflicting info on this …

  • Recieved a call from Telstra telling me as I was a direct debit customer already, I am only elegible for 4,000 points.
After telling them I saw it in the 24x7 App and had a screenshot, I was told if they remove the Direct Debit and I reapply, I would be able to trigger for the full 50,000 points.

    I guess time will tell!

  • Spoke to Telstra Chat. I've been told that my account is not eligible for now, but not to worry as the invite offer is still on-going. There's a change that I will receive it in the future.

I was then asked where did I get the info - I just told that it's from my mates at work. Then she surprisingly said that "I see, they might have read that on a third party websites which are only hearsay"

Lol. I asked for T's and C's but can't provide. But thanks to JamesM18 - I was reading it while talking to her.

    • -4

Point 3 now proves that only first DD setup will work. Too bad

      • -1

No this is talking about enrolling in the Telstra Plus program not DD.

        • -3

I talked to 2 Telstra support, both said its for DD rewards

  • So what is going to happen to customers who spends the points and then cancel direct debit? My $39 a month out of contract plan wont last forever. lol

    • They can't do anything about it. Enjoy your free goods!

  • I can see telstra getting a lot of complaints on this promotion unless they fix up their T&C to state its only for eligible customer who have the banner appear on their app

  • Does this work for prepaid customers? I do have the banner but just takes me to the profile.

  • New addition to their chat window when you try and get through to a rep (regardless of the reason)

You're now being transferred. Please allow a few moments for the consultant to read your chat transcript.

An update - I didn't get the 50,000 points when I chatted to them but they gave me 10,000 for being a loyal customer, and a $49 credit to my statement. Good enough I thought.

    • I did the same earlier, and I got $10/month my contract.

    • I also chatted with them but the staff did not offer me anything, just said there may be some rewards for old customer in the future…

      • may be some rewards for old customer in the future…

What age do they consider old ?

  • I know it might be too soon but just wondering if anybody has received the points?

  • Is it just me or has the option to set a max limit for the DD now disappeared when trying to set it up?

    • +1

Yes it says it's no longer available, and if you have a previous limit, it also says it'll be removed if you make any changes to DD.

      • +1

sigh Why did they do this?

  • Is the S9 Lilac for 48,000 point plus $600 good value?

    • No, I bought a lilac s9 for $539 brand new delivered from all phones.

  • Hadn't showed up for the past two days (just Xbox offer) but today it showed up :)
Is it easy to cancel direct debit?

    • You never set up DD before?

      • not with Telstra, it says in the terms and conditions you have to stay on it for 6 months if you want the 50'000 but since they are sending the points out within 14 days when paying with dd I don't think they can do anything about it if we cancel once the points come through.

edit just found out it will take 24 hours on the app- https://www.telstra.com.au/canceldirectdebit

        • I agree.

        • They could set your account to -50000. Credit card / flybuys do this

          • @snvl: They could do, although personally would take the risk considering Telstra Rewards are giving me around 910 points per month ($91 spent per month). It would take me roughly 49 months (4 years) to redeem the Samsung Buds, that's them on sale, or 5 years when the go back to normal price on the store- It's a shame the only way most people can get enough points to redeem anything is with sign up bonuses or changing payment methods, sort of goes against the whole 'rewarding the customer' part

  • -2

Just chatted with 2 Telstra customer service reps, both said its only for the first time setting DD.

3.Members who are enrolled will be able to see their bonus points in the 24x7 App or through My Account within 14 business days from after first successful Direct Debit payment. Customers who are not enrolled in Telstra Plus at the time of making their eligible purchase will see their bonus points within 14 business days from enrolment.

I had cancelled my direct debit. App wouldn't show the promo no matter how many times i refreshed. Updated the app also. Well, too bad I guess

    • This point is talking about the differences between those who are enrolled in the Plus program and those who are not.
If the emphasis is on the part you have bolded then technically you could qualify, even if you have had DD in the past as long as you are not a plus member. In this case you receive it from 14 days after enrolling into plus. That would not make sense.

  • Giving this a try just in case it works.
    Cancelled DD.
Waited until it was removed from my account.
    Installed the 24/7 app.
Saw the 50000 point promo and screenshot it. (Not sure why but others mentioned doing it)
Added DD with a different bank account. (accidentally, but may need to leave it there for 6 months before fixing it)
Noticed the 50000 point promo still showing in the app.
Now to wait and see if the points turn up.

    • I cancelled DD, but the 50K points banner not showing up on my app, only XBox one. Do you have any idea what I need to do? Thanks

  • no luck getting the banner up :(

  • -1

When I went to Telstra chat to ask about an account issue, before getting connected to agent, the chat window provided a link to the deal or at least a link to the crowd support page explaining the deal. Therefore, I think I must be eligible because the chat info told me to find out more info by hitting link in chat to get 50,000 points.

thats what I am going to say if they dont give me the 50k

    • To be eligible for the Direct Debit points, they must not already be on Direct Debit
    • Points will be applied automatically within seven days, after the first Direct Debit payment has been processed
    • The offer must be presented to a customer via Next Best Action (in store) or the 24x7 App
    • Customers that remove Direct Debit within 6 months will not be eligible to retain the bonus points
    • Crowd Support is advising if your are on DD you are eligible and that you must remain on it for 6m from 13/12

      • Can’t see anything on that on my end :/ Did you keep a transcript of the chat?

        • Customers that remove Direct Debit within 6 months will not be eligible to retain the bonus points

What if customers spent those bonus points and then cancel direct debit?

          • +4

@netsurfer: Telstra will come to your house and ask for your items back nicely

    • Any tips on how to make the direct payment date earlier?

      • No idea sorry :(

  • FYI: Not Targeted
Crowd Support chat is telling people its for anyone who sets up DD before 13/12 (or has it active already)

  • I saw the banner, signed up, and on confirmation it said I'd get the points after my first payment (Just after Xmas).

Looks like I'll have enough points to get a Galaxy A30 once they go through. Anyone know if it's likely to be network locked to Telstra?

    • Yes

  • Well. just reading at T&C it doesn't say anything about existing members so going to chat and see how it goes…

  • my dd just went through yesterday so ill update when it shows on mine. never had dd before

  • +7

Unregistered for DD 3 days back and got the banner this morning. Signed up for DD again with the Bonus points offer. Thanks OP!

    • Did you do anything else to get the banner up? I’m still showing the Xbox only. Thanks

      • It just started showing up this morning.

    • Same here. I've been checking daily and it finally showed up today.

      • Had DD b4?

    • Same with me!

      • Same here!

        • Yep, just signed up - kept screenshots.

  • I’ve never seen anything but the X Box banner but have signed up based on the advice from Crowd Support. I have a postpaid account and have never had DD before. I will be pretty annoyed if I don’t get the points. Why can’t Telstra not provide clear information that is not confusing/misleading?

    • +2

You must be new to telstra …

    • It's Tel$tra. Seems to show up on iOS devices first, but now showing on the Android app as well.

  • It showed up in mine today! After not showing the previous couple of days

  • Mine showed up too. I've had DD before but cancelled after this deal came up.

  • Ditto as above two posts, banner changed today to the offer! Bazinga
