50000 Telstra Plus Rewards Points for Direct Debit

5381

Was just checking my services in the Telstra app and there is a banner advertising 50000 plus points for signing up to direct debit, that’s a bit more than what it costs for a redemption on a pair of Samsung Galaxy Buds so seems generous, previous deal as 4K of points.

  • I followed up with live chat a few days ago, but they kept repeating that I wasn't eligible and insisting that the t&cs never changed.

All they could offer me was to submit a complaint..

Just got an email with my outcome… 6k points :(

    • +2

Does anyone happen to have a copy of the "before" T&C? Then it would be a case for the ombudsman.

I'm happy to take it up on behalf of everyone here.

      • If you read the comments on the T&C page, the Telstra Rep admitted to amending the write-up. Also some comments alluded to seeking advice from ACCC and TOI.

        • +2

Right but that's not acceptable - is there a copy of the original T&C?

[EDIT] I've submitted an ombudsman complaint anyway. Will advise on the outcome.

          • @gadgetguy: The TIO have said they cannot handle the complaint as it is not regarding "supply of a telecommunications service, such as a telephone, mobile or internet service"

            :-(

            • @gadgetguy: Possible something for Consumer Affairs rather than the Ombudsman in that case, however you'd think being told by a Customer Rep that yes go ahead and add (readd in some cases) Direct Debit and you will get 50,000 points then not getting points is somehow void of your Telstra Contract

    • +1

6000 points is a better result than my email. Argued with a chat manager, submitted a complaint then received a super long email with this line in it

"If you wish to accept the resolution I’ve offered you, you may contact us via Live Chat, quoting your Telstra complaint reference number SR 1-blah blah blah"

He didn't offer a resolution in chat other than I'm not eligible for the points and the consultant who told me I was, was mistaken.

Just spoke to Telstra live chat
Guy seemed knowledgeable and he told me firstly I am 100% elible (his words)

    Also told me something interesting
As the offer began 05-12-19 the earliest people would be able to claim the points assuming they had a bill due the same day the offer started would be tomorrow 19-12-19 basically 14 days after the bill is paid

So the earliest anyone possibly could get these is as of tomorrow anyways but generally 14 days after direct debit is done

I've taken a scroll shot of the convo and just scratched out my personal info for you guys to read yourself

    • I'm in the same boat, haven't contacted Telstra yet but it's been 12 days after my first direct debit payment after I switched to direct debit for the first time (after clicking on the 50k promotion banner).

If you're right, I'll get the 50k bonus points by COB Friday as that is "within 14 days of first direct debit payment".

      • Fingers crossed for you
        Let us know

    • So the earliest anyone possibly could get these is as of tomorrow anyways but generally 14 days after direct debit is done

Initial T&C was 7 days after direct debit

      • +1

Yeah they have caused a mess with sneakily changing the T&C as they go which is typical telstra moving the goal posts further and further back all the time.

  • +1

Have been told via chat that the points will come through this week. Interestingly, they tried to call me to tell me this during the chat session - told them I couldn’t take a call (sleeping baby) then they told me about the points coming this week.

    • haha them trying to call you sounds like they're aware people have recorded the chats.

I don't doubt those adding DD the first time will get their points, but seems there will be a battle for those who removed and readded it.

  • +2

7 days passed my DD payment, i got my payment points, still no 50,000 points

spoke to telstra chat many times now their saying its 14 days after DD payment…

this is like the Samsung Borderlands game redeem all over again

next their gonna tell me 28 days >:(

  • Spoke to Telstra, said that I am not eligible as I've cancelled the DD on 5/12 :(

  • I'm guessing nobody has received their points yet. My DD was setup when the T&C said 7 days to receive the points. My DD was taken on the 9th and I should have received the points by the 19th. I contacted Telstra and had my claim "escalated". I got nowhere today with a rep who is telling me (because I escalated it) the escalation team has left a note saying they'll "contact" me about it on the 2nd of January. So, "escalation" means "take even longer" for Telstra.

    • Funny really. I was flat out refused after being told I would get them (Admittedly I did delete and re-add DD so I suppose they covered their own ass in a way) however I complained anyway about being told otherwise. The manager who took my complaint told me bad luck basically. He then sent through an email acknowledging my complaint and said "I'm sorry you wouldn't take us up on the resolution offered, please contact us quoting blah blah if you would like to accept this resolution"

I contacted them back…there was no resolution at all, the resolution he wanted was me closing my complaint, which I didn't, the new person then said he would pass the complaint onto the Telstra Plus team instead, the next day I got an SMS saying they're working on my complaint, regards the Telstra Plus team. So I guess there is a team linked to Plus after all!

  • +2

Has anyone actually got the 50,000 points yet? Even one person?

    • Well it seems the direct debit date is 3 weeks from bill issue date. The offer was available from the 5th, so say someone registered the offer and got issued a bill on the 6th, then that the first eligible direct debit date will be 27th. We come back and check next weekend?

      • The T&Cs when I signed up said 7 business days to receive the points after the date they take the payment through DD. For me, I should have received the points no later than the 19th. I was even told by a rep that I was definitely receiving them that day. The best I can get out of them now is that someone from the Telstra Plus team will contact me on the 2nd of January. I can pretty much guarantee the thing I'm looking at getting with the points will be "sold out" like pretty much everything else in the store by then. Yay.

    • +3

I just check and I can conform I have received my 50,000 points probably sometime this week as the DD was on 10th December.

ok just checked its showing the below

      20 Dec 2019
      Direct Debit Bonus Points
      +50,000

      • Damn you're lucky. That's not even 14 business days or even 14 days. My dd was a day after yours on 11 Dec and still waiting in my bonus points. So expecting it maybe 6th Jan..

  • With so many extra points flooding into their ecosystem, is anyone else expecting things to sell out and remain that way, or a hike in points required for items?

I doubt I'm going to be able to get any Samsung buds for my 50k when they're finally credited. :(

  • We got 4,000 bonus points for direct debit sign up:
    https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/173606/75634/telstra_p…

  • Sorry, but I’m negging as I think Telstra aren’t honouring this, and only one person says they have received the points with no real proof. I checked my points statement today, not sure if it was backdated as I don’t really monitor it but all it says is the following(See below). Keep in mind I am a LOOOOONG time Telstra customer who has genuinely never signed up for DD until the moment I saw this offer, I had the banner in my 24x7 App so I met all the criteria including having my first DD done on the 20th. Happy to take a screenshot if you guys really want.

    9 Dec 2019
    NBA direct debit sign up
    +4,000

    • +1

Have you contacted them to find out why you only got 4k? Would be curious to know as my DD is not due yet so if these pricks are straight up lying I am gonna call them out on it for sure

      • Well in one of the revised T&C the bonus applies to the bill issued after registration. This is not the case for snagseb yet. He prob get the rest after his next bill.

        • +1

They've made so many changes its hard to keep up

        • Possibility I didn’t consider. Touché.

      • -1

Not yet. From reading some of the comments, I am debating if it’s worth my time since I was always sceptical in the first place. I’ll wait a bit more and see if we can get some more feedback.

    • My direct debit came out on the 9/12 (first time direct debit), haven't even got the 4k points yet…

    • +4

      They are honouring it mate!

You must be the only unlucky one here

See my screenshot which I just uploaded now

      https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/51466/75682/50000.jpg

      • Thanks. Lucky me. As mentioned above. Could be the billing cycle I was on and maybe I get it next month. But I am also wondering what the 4000 points I got was for? Did you get that too?

  • +1

Got the 50,000 points!! Spoke to chat and they said 14 days - checked today and boom they are there!

  • +2

I just spoke to chat now, told them points not there and they deposited them right away.

    • Wow. I just spoke to another rep about my points. Now they're going to send a note to the escalation team to ask them to escalate the existing escalation. You guys are so awesome.

  • +1

I kinda like that they don’t have by card or bank details for my 3 year phone plan.

  • 7 days after my DD on 12th Dec, received only normal amount. Contacted support, she said the promotion is only for new customer who sign up DD for the 1st time from 4th Dec. Cancelling and re-registering won't be eligible

  • i'm a new DD who signed up for this deal i've now waited 15 days still no points (only the points for my bill paid)

DD was paid on 11th Dec sigh

    • Thank you for patiently waiting Vincent, I have successfully delivered the escalation process to our digital team and as I have mentioned a while ago, we expect to receive feedback within 24-48 hours and I can assure you that the missing points shall be retrieved and will land in your account.

      This is the reference number.

      INT XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

      ill just have to wait

    • 14 business days or calendar days?

      • not sure, the last guy i spoke to said this is very odd as my case was supposed to be escalated 7 days ago…

seems like some staff think its 7 days and some think its 14 days…

  • +2

Spoke the them on chat and they said 50k points will be credited 14 business days after first direct debit payment is made. So for me (bill came out on the 5th December) that should be tomorrow. Fingers crossed.

    • -1

You sure that's 14 business days, and not just 14 days?
Hanging out for the Pixies tour btw? I sure as hell am!

      • That's what they told me, 14 business days. Then again so far no points have appeared so I will have to talk to them tomorrow …. Sigh.

Yeah definitely looking forward to the tour, got tickets and waiting for March!

        • was told the same 14 business days and seperate to normal points.
So 2 Jan or 3rd of Jan.
We will see have a chat that says I am eligible.

        • Any points? I'm still waiting on mine, DD on the 9th Dec.

          • @tivo: Still waiting, but they have told me they had 'already placed a request to have the 50,000 points applied to my account' and that I should get them by 3rd January at latest. Funny how you always get a different answer with Telstra reps!

  • +2

Thanks, signed up to direct debit when deal was posted. Direct debit taken 20/Dec, points for payment appeared 30/Dec and 50k bonus points appeared today 31/Dec.

  • +1

Fyi my online chat guy (Nel) said should be 7 days from 1st direct debit.

    • What did you spend on?

  • Still waiting (and waiting!)
    DD setup 5/12
    1st DD 9/12
Contact Telstra online help (numerous times)
Points alotted (best I can hope for is 2/1/20)

Fyi my online chat guy (?) said I WILL get them on 19/12/19. (7 days from 1st direct debit)

  • Received my points today :) Thanks OP!

  • Checked this morning. No points

    Checked this morning. 50000 points!

    My details
    - didn’t have the offer banner in the app.
    - DD happened 13th Dec, so that’s 10 business days

  • +3

My first payment came out on 27/12 and the points were credited today.. Galaxy buds ordered and should be delivered in 2 working days. Gotta be happy with that!

    • Same payment date & points also arrived today.

  • +1

Noticed my points were credited today. I had an auto debit dueon the 27th.was in credit so nothing came out. Points were still credited.

  • What are people who have received the points claiming with their 50,000?

    • That's what I'm trying to figure out.

      • Galaxy Buds: unless I sell them, I don't need them as I have the Sony equivalent
      • Google Pixel Stand: Bought one in November for $89 from Harvey Norman (doh could have gotten one for free)
      • Google Nest Mini bundle: I already have two Home Minis and a Nest Mini; don't need any more at this point in time
      • wireless speakers: already have them
      • JBL soundbar: TV too ancient for a soundbar

      Sigh …

      • Haha. I was just looking through the list. The Harmon Kardon Onyx 6 speakers seem to return the most value.

There’s a whole list of other stuff that I wouldn’t mind, but didn’t seem to be as VfM as the speakers.

        Phone cases
        Google Near Mini bundle
        Galaxy Buds
        Apple Pencil 2
        Airpods 2 w/wireless charging

        • Can’t even get a phone case as it’s out of stock for the Pixel 4 in my case

  • +1

    Got my points!
Didn't even take the 7-14 days as my DD came out on 27th December and just checked this morning and already there
    Happy New Year to me!

  • +1

    Points in, and spent!

    • What did you get with the points? I’m still undecided.

      • Google nest hub for me :-)

    • harman kardon onyx studio 6 for me…. Thanks again OP

  • Bill on 9th, DD on 30 Dec, points in this morning and spent!

  • Points are in. Bill issued on the 12/12/2019, DD is not due until 03/01/2020.

    • Thanks for posting your comment! I wouldn't have checked my points for another week if you hadn't detailed your dates haha. =]

  • +1

I have been told that I am not eligible for the promotion as I removed and re-enabled direct debit during the promo period (Start 04/12/2019 - End 31/01/2020). Going to try my luck with making a complaint, as I got a screenshot of a notification from the Telstra 24/7 app offering me the promo.

    • Any luck with the 50k points?

  • Got my points. First time sign up to DD and first DD happened on 29/12. Points show credited on 30/12.
Now what to get?!! Many of the products, even with points added are over retail price!

  • Seeing a few of of the Harmon Onyx 6 speakers popping up on gumtree, people trying to cash in. Looks like it retails for over 300 bucks…

  • Here's my story:

When I saw the promotion on OzB I'd already been signed up for direct debit for about 6/7 months.
Did a 24x7 chat on 5th December, spoke to an awesome guy named Bryan, who told me I'd be able to cancel my direct debit and immediately sign up again to be eligible.

I was just direct debited earlier today, so I thought I'd do another chat to find out when to expect the points. Gave them the reference number Bryan previously gave me, she had a read, told me that "she knows Bryan personally, he's a really great guy", and has processed my 50,000 points. She's said they'll turn up in my account within a few hours to a day.

    I'll give an update if/when I get them. :)

    • Did you end up getting them?

      • +2

Not yet. About an hour off from the end of the timeframe they give me.

I sense another 24x7 chat in my near future.

      • No dice. I've now been told to expect them on the 10th, which is apparently 7-10 business days after payment went through. Kinda starting to doubt I'll see them come through. :(

      • -4

        Final update.

This morning I did a chat because the last deadline for my points (Jan 10) wasn't met. I was told they should be in my account on Jan 15, and that some higher up person is working on my case.

I said I was annoyed because I hadn't been kept up to date and that I wouldn't be able to get the Galaxy Buds because they were now out of stock and the deal on them ends Jan 13. Then, shock horror, I was told to go to my local Telstra store, purchase a set, then get in touch again for a full refund, which I've just done. So I've got a free pair of the buds, plus I should get all 50,000 points on Jan 15.

I suppose sometimes it pays to get (profanity) around.

  • Got my 50,000 points. Never had DD before.

    • +1

Have enough points to get the AirPods for $48

      • Are they Gen 2 AirPods?

        • I ordered them too. Doesn't say anything about gen 2 though, so I doubt it

        • I did a chat with Telstra, they confirmed they are Gen 2

  • Are people getting Telstra Plus points on Telstra recharge?

    • No, you can only earn points if you receive a Telstra bill

      • Is it only for mobile plans or mobile broadband so eligible?

        • I believe it’s any Telstra service that appears on your bill

  • Got my points, ordered the buds. Will sell on FB for $150
    Thanks telstra!

  • I'll probably get the pro 5100 earbuds - they are pretty good vs the other options

  • +1

Well I didn't think it would happen but I got my 50,000 points. Paid for most of the cost of airpods for my wife. Thankyou for highlighting this deal. It's a good one!

  • +3

saving my points as there is nothing i need or want in the store atm :P

  • +1

Just checked and got my 50k points on the 30/12. I actually already paid for my bill before the DD date of 10/12, so my next DD was on 10/1. I got my points before any the DD even happened.

  • online chat Telstra rep said 50k points offer for this direct debit was meant to be expiring end of Jan but I can no longer see the offer in my app I did take a screenshot before

  • +2

So did anyone who cancelled and re-added Direct Debit get the points in the end? I had the banner pop up after cancelling, the original Terms and Conditions mentioned nothing about exclusions for those who cancelled, and was told by the original rep I spoke to I would be given the 50,000 points.

Then last chat was absolutely shut down (the rep was actually rude as heck telling me I was lying about the consultant who said I would get it…then I provided the transcript and was instead told that the rep was wrong and too bad.

    Good times

    • Oh wow, thats a terrible experience. I am in a similar situation, I cancelled my DD then live chat told me I was eligible. I signed up for DD again, had a DD bill taken on 11 December, but still haven‘t got any bonus points. I haven’t bothered with another live chat yet though.
