50000 Telstra Plus Rewards Points for Direct Debit

5381

Was just checking my services in the Telstra app and there is a banner advertising 50000 plus points for signing up to direct debit, that’s a bit more than what it costs for a redemption on a pair of Samsung Galaxy Buds so seems generous, previous deal as 4K of points.

      • I think I must have been one of many that had been contacting regarding it and he was over it, though really their job as an online chat consultant is to do just that and chat so really no excuse. Half of me is a bit peed they went about it the way they have, sure they know now there are people out there ready to pounce if they launch a promotion half assed, but on the other hand I should accept the points probably just won't happen4

    • Nah no luck.

  • I am short of 4.5K points for the item I am interested. Apart from waiting to accumulate these points over a period of time via monthly bill payments, is there any other quicker way? I chatted and was told I cannot buy these balance points from Telstra.

    • +1

Do you have friends or family on Telstra Plus? I believe you can transfer points

      • Will ask around. Thank You.

    • +2

Or you can just make a $450 payment in advance if you don't mind losing out on interest. Probably easier. The points are credited when payment is made, not when bills are issued.

If you don't wanna have ur fund trapped, you can even request for an excess credit refund after the redemption which will send your points negative. Then you can slowly pay it back then.

      • Thanks. That seems good idea :)
Since transfer is possible as per earlier suggestion, I am thinking of putting up a classified ad. Probably will cost me 10-15 bucks but much cleaner.

        • +1

I would just leave the credit inside since my monthly bill is $100+ with home internet.

  • A fair few galaxy buds going up on Facebook marketplace..

  • +2

Received the points, tried to purchase some headphones and it failed on the last step. CSR recommended using Firefox instead of Chrome, which worked, In case anyone else has this issue

    • Did you receive a confirmation email or order ID?

I had a similar issue where I got an error on submit… When I went back in via Firefox the points were already deducted, checked via online chat and they said the order went through but no orderID created yet, apparently a 24 to 48 hour delay before generation?

Being Telstra it probably didn't go through properly hence checking your experience!

      • Same here, technical errors for a few times but it went through eventually without an order ID. probably got to chase them up again, yuck.

      • Mine was worse. Got an error message, points deducted, credit card charged (I've confirmed with the bank and the bank confirmed Tel$tra have taken the money matching what's shown on my online statement). Most of the customer reps on the phone are worse than online chat ones and they messed up my service request (to investigate the issue).

Standard CSRs cannot see any Telstra Plus transaction. Cannot talk to proper billing team. While I received an SMS that Telstra is looking into it yesterday morning, when re-checked with an CSR this arvo (Friday arvo), the CSR indicated the request to investigate is officially in Pending status - which actually means waiting to be assigned to a person. So after 2 days, it is still in pending. The CSR indicated it could take up to 7 business days.

I couldn't believe Telstra would not let me talk to someone who can access my Telstra Plus transaction history (I can see points deducted) nor someone who can check the most recent credit card charge made by Telstra.

    • Did you get some form of order ID. I am in the same boat as those where the points were taken, credit card charged and an error message was shown. No e-mail, no SMS, no order ID.

To make the matter worse, standard Telstra reps are not able to check anything in Telstra Plus. And, it goes without saying that they cannot check any recent credit card transaction.

      • That's pretty shitty. When it failed for me, no points taken. I had the store open in another tab and hit the online chat button. They were able to confirm that the first order (this is from the chat transcript) "did not push trough order has been halted".

When I retried and was successful in Firefox, they confirmed it. I received an order email pretty soon after.

So I got caught in the bait and switch, cancelled and reinstated as per the T&C at the time. Its now more than 14 days since my new DD was paid so I just went on chat to follow up.

They are now sticking by the updated T&C but offered me a $10 per month credit for 12 months. I said 50k points would be worth more and I was disappointed. So they have upped it to 24 months.

I'm happy with that ($240 worth of credits vs 50k points). My monthly credits are now up to $60 :-)

    • +5

TBH I would rather $10 a month off my $29 bill than the 50,000 points I received lol

      • Probably most would prefer a $10 off, I doubt we can sell the speaker for $240.
AND if you are lucky they might forget to set an expiry date on the credit and you get a lifetime discount lol.

        • Got confirmation of the contract change - my Plan ($129) is reduced to $89 which includes $20 handset repayment for my S10+ 5G.

    • Did you talk to telstra via chat or phoned them?

  • Received the 50k points and ordered the Galaxy earbuds. Would have ordered the HK Onyx 6 if they had grey in stock.

Thanks Telstra for giving us expensive gadgets out of the blue.

    • Did you receive any type of confirmation email or order ID?

      • I did for the earbuds order. Weird thing about the points, I haven't had a direct order yet but still got the points.

        • Same for me, points landed on 30 Dec but first DD is for early Jan.

      • When you talked to Telstra Support via Online chat, did the support staff inform you that he/she can see the order (except an order number hasn't been assigned to it)? If yes, I think your order is in a much better shape than mine.

For me, despite able to see the points deduction from Telstra Plus transaction history, support team informed me they cannot find any order (what's worse is that it appears that they don't have access to my Telstra Plus transaction history). All they can do is raise an investigation request. Compared this to my bank, which gave me the transaction details within seconds.

The investigation request raised has been sitting there waiting for someone to look into it for 2 business days now.

        • This is exactly what Telstra rep wrote in chat "I can confirm that your order went thru as i can see that the points are deducted on the account as well. the order reference number has yet to be generated yet on the our end however i can assure you it went thru."

She said it could take 24 to 48 hours to generate an ID (which I thought was odd given they generally dispatch within a day).

          • @George Z: I raised a complaint (because Telstra staff cannot even find my order) and a case manager got back to me. Mine is still in a mess and the ETA of the investigation is about 1 week (up to 15/1). I did ask about people in your situation. She informed me that if Telstra staff can see an order, then it is just waiting to be fulfilled. Hopefully, your order will be processed soon.

            • @netsurfer: I also spoke to them today, apparently they are manually trying to put the order through. Supposed to get an update on the next 24 hours, time will tell!

              • @George Z: Surprised you had/have good Telstra staff helping you and willing to manually put the order through. Most Telstra staff I dealt with are all saying: we don't have sufficient access and need to wait for back office staff to investigate. ETA (of getting information from the back office): 7 business days.

I have a case manager assigned to it now and she has been helpful. Still waiting for the manual refund to get to my bank account (was told that will take a few business days as well). She informed me my order will most likely be cancelled (but still need back office staff to do it).

Let me know if you get your order sorted. I reckon yours will be sorted before mine. The impression I've been given is that mine won't be resolved this week.

                • @netsurfer: So I just received a SMS stating they refunded my points… Checked with chat and confirmed I need to resubmit… Looks like it worked this time as I received an email confirmation with an invoice number pretty much straight after I got the confirmation page, says they will be delivered in 2 days.

  • +1

As expected. Ebay and Facebook are flooded with galaxy buds.

    • +1

I managed to sell mine before the storm and have ported out to Boost - thanks Telstra!

    • heh resell right? These days people do anything for money

  • +3

Why is there not a single site selling Harmon Kardon onyx 6 except telstra ?

    • Must be a new model. Hardly any reviews yet.

  • Thanks OP for sharing this, you're the true MVP. Ended up getting 54,000 bonus points in total and got a set of galaxy buds.

    • How’d you end up with the extra 4000?

      • not sure, I got this when i activated direct debit:
        https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/173606/75634/telstra_p…

        • Did you sign up for Telstra 24x7 for the first time to setup direct debit? If yes, you do get additional 4000 points.

Based on your screenshot, it appears to be the case.

          • @netsurfer: Nope been with telstra for 25+ years. Been using Telstra 24x7 for a few years now. Just did what op said to do and signed up for direct debit.

  • I cancelled my existing DD and saw 50k bonus banner on 24x7 app, signed up again and had the first DD on 7 December but no bonus point ever came through. So looks like Telstra is not giving away points accidentally :-/

    • +2

I made a false advertising complaint and they are applying a $150 credit to my account.

      • Who did you complain to? Link please.

      • Did you complain to ACC OR TOI or just Telstra supervisor?

  • 50,000 points for me came in on the 31st December… Sitting on 105,000 points now :)

  • Just got my points! Not sure what to do with them. I would go the Onyx speaker if it had wifi.

    • Same. But seems to be new items added to the store every few weeks so I'm just going to roll the dice and wait for something new. I'm hoping the Jabra elites make an appearance.

  • Telstra plus website down? Blank page :(

  • I’m so annoyed! I received the banner, clicked it but had difficulty setting up direct debit, contacted help who confirmed several times I would be receiving the point. Come time to direct debit and nothing happens, contact help again, who again confirms that I would be receiving the points and stuffing around once again trying to set it up. Nothing happens, contact help again and they say that I am not eligible! And even though my chat history had been available everything I used chat. now I it’s conveniently been deleted.

    • Got the same response. They say I'm not eligible as I had DD previously even though I sent them the term and conditions before they updated they said it's just a notification to customers to set up DD. It's bullshit.

  • Got my points and ordered the galaxy buds, thanks Telstra :)

  • +1

the offer never came up on my telstra app, but anyway I thought I'd use online chat to see if the offer applies for me. The agent got my details and asked if this was my first time signing up to DD, and confirmed that i was eligible. Gave me a reference number in case the points don't show up. Worth a try if you don't see the offer popup.

    • How'd you do that. The rep i spoke to said I that they couldn't adjust on the system. It was all automatically done.

  • Signed up for DD but they didn't even take payment yet and I got the points… Ordered the Onyx 6 speakers.

  • Has someone signed up for Telstra service within last 1 week and able to see promo banner in App?

    It's always Xbox for me

    • Go to Telstra Chat type in 'Telstra points'. Eg.

Codi: For eligible customers, you can get 50,000 Telstra Plus bonus points when you set up a direct debit! Do this by going to our Set Up Direct Debit page. For eligibility requirements and to see details about the offer, head to CrowdSupport.

Wow 45K points for 6 Google Nest Mini. I assumed I was ordering three. Woohooo

    • What will you do with 6? Sell / give away or one in every room?

  • Kogan is selling the buds for 179.99:

    https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/samsung-galaxy-buds-aura-glow-s…

Might push the ebay prices down.

  • 2 chats confirmed I would get the points and was given case and reference numbers. Message yesterday to say case closed but no reason. So back to chat today - this time it was all the systems fault so I was offered $10 off my mobile - I gave up and took it. So it’s another angle to pursue if you can’t get the points

    • As I posted above.

Did you push for 24 months?

      • I hadn't seen your post so not specifically no - but will apply until I re-contract so all good

  • Hmm I did the cancel DD and re-DD quite early - definitely before they put in those added T&Cs but no points with my money being DDed yesterday.

The people who managed to get $10 off their bill for 12/24 months do it via online chat?

  • This is getting utterly ridiculous now. Signed up on 6th. DD 17th. Points due 24th.

I’ve since been told it’s changed form 7 days to 14 days to 14 business days to now 45 days (as below)!! How can I escalate?

Thanks Andrew for the clarification. Please let me explain first how the 50,000 point will apply to your account. You might have been told differently from last time, and I want to apologize for that.

Let me clarify this now and provide the correct process. Your 50,000 Telstra Points will be added to your account after 45 days of having an active and continued Direct Debit Payment.

The system needs to detect and verify that you have ongoing automatic payment within 30 days. Once verified, the points will be processed and wijll be added on your next billing cycle. This is why it will be added after 45 days.

    • yeah I have received similar advice.

      • They are taking the piss now - hoping you will give up or forget.

    • I just got this via chat:

have spoke with my support and confirmed that the terms and elgibility I have discussed with you was accurate however, since you confirmed that you have seen the promotion on your account online app, we will honor that and to further help you with it .

I will now raise this with our telstra plus team for points adjustment.

I will do the points adjustment now for the 50000 points and this will reflect on your account within 7 business days, a notification will be sent to you once completely reflect on your account

      • Been told that several times in last 3 weeks

        Going to TIO now

        • They can't/won't deal with this. I already tried.

I posted about this a few pages back:

          gadgetguy on 19/12/2019 - 10:22
@gadgetguy: The TIO have said they cannot handle the complaint as it is not regarding "supply of a telecommunications service, such as a telephone, mobile or internet service"

          :-(

    • Mine were credited and I haven't even had a direct debit taken out yet, that's due this week.

      They're having a laugh mate.

  • Almost forgot about this but I received my 50k points on New Years Eve. Kool :D

  • +1

Just got off chat for the 12th time or so. The plus team had finally left a note on my account. They claim that everything was correct for me to receive the points EXCEPT they claim I had DD setup previously. They didn't say when, or for how long, or give any specifics. I've only been with them for 2 years and I've never had dd setup in that time. There's no way for to argue, except to ask them to review their decision. So I just cancelled everything.

  • Cheers OP doubt I would have seen the offer if it wasn't posted here. Received the Onyx 6 this arvo. Thanks again champ :)

  • Ordered jbl sound bar 1/1. No sign of it yet or any email updates aside from initial order confirmation. Contacted 4 times so far by phone and chat and still no clue as to when it might be received. They can’t even tell me if it’s been shipped! It is Telstra after all so this should have been expected.

  • +1

I've had a pretty positive outcome.

This morning I did a chat because the last deadline I was told if receive my points (Jan 10) wasn't met. I was told they should be in my account on Jan 15 at the latest, and that some higher up person is working on my case.

I said I was annoyed because I hadn't been kept up to date and that I wouldn't be able to get the Galaxy Buds because they were now out of stock and the deal on them ends Jan 13. Then, shock horror, I was told to go to my local Telstra store, purchase a set, then get in touch again for a full refund, which I've just done. So I've got a free pair of the buds, plus I should get all 50,000 points on Jan 15.

I suppose sometimes it pays to get messed around. Could be worth jumping on chat and complaining if you've experienced similar circumstances.

    • I highly doubt if you are going to get the 50k pts on 15 Jan as promised though.

      • I'm hopeful, but definitely wouldn't be the first time I haven't gotten them when I was told I would.

        • Waiting with baited breath to see if you got the points.

          • @tomsco: I'm like 95% positive I won't be getting them today. :P

  • Forgot all about this. I just checked and I have 77k points. Is the Airpods best way to spend the points? I think the market is already flooded with all the Nest etc.

  • +3

Thanks OP! Received my Harman Kardon Onyx 6 today. Ordered it on 8 Jan. Photo here.

    • +1

      How's it go?
Good sound, or is it just getting sold on?
After a genuine review as I'm looking for one to sit outside when we BBQ.

      • +2

It sounds pretty damn good for mine. No complaints.

      • +1

Very good sound. Beats out JBL smaller ones obviously due to size but was really impressed with this

        Esp Indoors as well

  • How long does it take to get the points after debit once?

    • Few days after first direct debit payment.

      • Nothing here yet since 10th Debit

  • How do you get to actually live chat with a person? I keep going around in circles with the bot

    • Go on Telstra tablet buying page…you will see popup asking if you need to buy tablet…tell them you want to check Telstra point, can they help?

    • +1

Or type " Talk to real person" in chat window with bot.

  • Does anyone have a screenshot of the old t&c’s they can pm me?

  • Once the points come through can you just cancel the direct debit?

  • If anyone could please PM me a screenshot or PDF of the old terms & conditions?

    • I only have a screen shot of the Telstra page mentioning the bonus points, not the actual terms and conditions.

  • Got the onyx 6 seems great speaker..linked it to the google nest, play music gave me to…great days ahead

  • "Thanks for confirming. In that case, you will be eligible for the points. Just kindly wait for the points to reflect within 14 business days. Just make sure to continue to use your direct debit and do not cancel it within 3 months as it may remove the bestowed points."

  • Love the OzBargain Community! Thanks for the tips guys… I wasn't able to get the 50k points by cancelling DD and signing up again, but jumped on Telstra Chat and after 30min chat, managed to get $10 credit on my bill for 24months.. takes me to down $39 a month with 30GB of data.

I would suggest trying a few different online chat reps, as some don't budge at all. Thanks again guys.

    • +1

Good on you. Always good to give it a shot and negotiate. My plan is also 30GB of data but only $29/month. Had cashrewards too so came down to $21.5/month
