I feel like these are the standard prices now

    • for Qantas?

    • +6

Yes flights to Japan are now almost like buying Udemy courses, no one buys them at full price.

      • People with kids buy them for full price during the school holidays. One of my work mate paid $1200 return each.

Just paid $1400 return on ANA to fly in April for a Bucks party; bro's before savings

    • Because seats are over supplied.
from 29/mar. VA fly to HND from BNE, NH add a flight to HND (became double daily) .
It means more sale will come.

      • Yes, I just checked the website and found good fare in November from Brisbane to Tokyo Haneda, much closer to Tokyo centre than Narita.

        • Mind sharing which dates? :)
Id much rather fly into/out of Haneda too

          • @Architechtonics: Just check 10 Nov to 23 Nov Bris to Tokyo Haneda direct flights $656. I only looked at Nov for the autumn leaves season.

      • What is NH? Thanks

        • NH is ANA

      • Because seats are over supplied.
from 29/mar. VA fly to HND from BNE, NH add a flight to HND (became double daily) .

Looks like even more seats on the way. JAL upgauging 787-9 to 777-300ER on the daily Sydney-Tokyo from September, adding almost 350 seats per week.

    • maybe just off seasons so sales now

just came back from Japan a few weeks ago for Christmas and New Years, paid $1400 zz

Last September during school holiday, we paid $1650 qantas direct Mel to Tokyo 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️. We never ever get a sale price during school holiday.

  • just paid for ANA flights to Tokyo from sydney $722.66 over the june long weekend. directly through the airline… you could possibly get cheaper through other online sites.

less than $100 to get a direct flight to hanaeda and much better flight times

    • Qantas are flying direct to Haneda from Melbourne starting late March - all these flights are to Haneda.

      • +1

yes they are… but most qantas flights are in the morning… which mean you get into Tokyo in the evening.. you waste a day travelling and pay for a nights accommodation if you have the extra time to travel then its great but the ANA flight are over night.. much better if you can sleep on a plane that is.

        • But on a way back you fly during the night and arrive to Brisbane early morning. Take that into account. Never had any issues with coming to Japan at 5-7pm

          • @Michael1983: yes but not all flights are like that… some of the sale fares from syd and melb fly via brisbane.

i'm in syd … some qantas flies back to melb then to Tokyo. and the same on the return journey.

all i'm saying ANA is only direct from Sydney and overnight. ANA sale fares are usually $700 - $800

flying in 5-7 pm is not the problem when you have been flying for the last 13-15 hours. get to Tokyo if you your lucky hanaeda.. only 30 minutes from central Tokyo, if you get to narita put on an extra hour minimum. and at 5-7pm that's peak hour.

not sure how much time left you have in the evening for a dinner and drinks especially if you are travelling with a family.

I've flown direct to KIX in Osaka and out Hanaeda, that wasn't too bad on Qantas but I prefer night time flights get the most of the days off which comes rare

    NO DEAL
Virgin now has direct Brisbane to Haneda

If only you could get these prices through the AMEX travel portal so you could use $450 travel credit from a recent AMEX card

  • Does anyone know if Qantas is still flying the grandpa's crap between Sydney and Tokyo? The plane last time i boarded was very very very old!!!

    • +1

Yes they are flying the 747s until the 747s get retired later this year.

      • thanks for confirmation.

        • but i would take a 747 or an A330 over a 9 abreast 787 (which Qantas and ANA have) every day of the week.

The most comfortable economy class seats on the routes to Japan would be on Japan Airlines on their 8 abreast 787s. In fact, JAL's 787 probably have the best standard economy seats of any plane on any airline anywhere in the world.

          • @tihir: The bad news is they are changing the JAL Sydney to Tokyo route to a 777-300 from September 2020. There won't be 8 abreast in economy anymore :(

            https://www.executivetraveller.com/news/japan-airlines-first…

            • @kooljohn: That's a shame. Although the 9 abreast 777s that JAL use are pretty good (and probably the next best thing). They are one of a few airlines to still use 9 abreast on their 777s. More or less everyone else has gone to 10 (there are a couple of exceptions - SQ, DL, TG, BA heathrow 777s are still 9 - but AC NZ CX AA UA EK EY QR are all at 10)

    • yep flew one home on the return journey last year.. was not a great flight

  • wish they had the sales for feb during snow season, don't think i see that yet…

  • crazy how on this website you can get tickets for $650 return with qantas and i put the same dates on qantas for same flights and it comes to 1.1k
how do they manage to get the tickets so cheaper than qantas directly..

  • I remember my first trip to Japan in 2007 before jet star started, ward about 2.5k return

  • +1

Cheap flights, more Australians in Japan :/

    • +1

hopefully articulate ones.. bogans probably wont enjoy it as much as Bali or Thailand and definitely not as cheap
