    • I'd have thought plane tickets is the one thing you want to be spending on this card…especially for the travel insurance. :)

Do Cryptocurrency purchases count as an eligible purchase?

    WARNING

I was rejected for this application despite having a perfect credit history and >$75k annual income.

Not entirely sure why, but keep it in mind before applying.

    • This happened to me as well!

    • Most important factor (it seems) is serviceability - not necessarily annual income and credit score. Reason I say this is someone could be earning 200k, no mortgage and no other credit card/debt - doesn’t necessarily mean they’d get an automatic approval. Banks want people who spend + make regular repayments, and a number of other factors which remain mostly secret

      • I spend plenty on my credit cards (~2-3k per month for both me and my partner), never missed a repayment. I’ll call them tomorrow to find out why my application was rejected (never been rejected before, out of maybe 5-6 applications over the past 6 years).

        • 80% is serviceability, it is not what you think your spending is, is what they predict your spending.

          Do you have any dependents?

        • Did you call and find out why?

          • +1

@snuke: So I found out why, it was due to their expected serviceability of the credit card due to the expenses I input into the form. I explained my credit history and a more thorough review resulted in ANZ saying they will accept my application.

So, neg revoked. I think their automated systems are very strict, so just call them up if you're rejected.

  • Any insight on being approved with a 50k income but already possessing a CC with 6k credit? I've heard ANZ is pretty picky.

  • I have never had a Qantas frequent flyer membership. I am guessing I need to pay and sign up for one first?

    • Pay? For what?

      • To get a frequent flyer number?

    • The second dot point on the deal is "Complimentary Qantas Frequent Flyer membership".

Edit: Nevermind, didn't see the other replies, they were pushed over to the next page.

  • On the ANZ website the pointhacks card does not mention some of the included insurance products (Guaranteed Pricing Scheme, Transit Accident Insurance or Rental Vehicle Excess in Australia Insurance) after you click through. However, they are mentioned on the pointhacks website. I would assume you get all the same inclusions as applying for the card through other links.

  • any existing anz card holders been successful getting it approved on the spot after calling up after an online application and asking for a split limit on an existing card to have this one approved? or is it not possible any longer to do this with the new credit laws?

  • What are the terms on the black card? $150 fee, 4k spend for 120k points?
People are tossing up between the black card but I cant see the deal. Is this it? https://www.pointhacks.com.au/credit-cards/anz-frequent-flye…

  • WARNING Has the ANZ website been updated since last night?

Pointhacks says $295 annual fee, $0 in the first year.

ANZ website (through link) says no annual account fee. This breaks down in the Ts&Cs as $240 annual account fee and $55 rewards service fee so this card is actually $55!

    • Ignore this, the TS&C's are misleading. The $55 is also waived in the first year, mentioned in another section. The way it's worded should also be waived for an additional cardholder

      • What do you mean ignore this?

So there is definitely no annual fee in the first year right?

        • They will always include the annual fee in the T&C's (unless it's a no annual fee for life card), as there are annual fees, just none in the first year.

      • Called ANZ, confirmed that additional cardholder fees will not be waived.

  • fyi - approved with 3 existing cards (limits north of 60k) and income in highest tax bracket. applied yesterday.

    • just an update - got card yesterday, so technically 2 business days from approval if you exclude the public holiday on Monday. All in all, 4 business days from time of application to receiving card. Just need the pin now which comes in a separate envelope. Pretty impressed.

      • Cheers for the update on timings and process.

        Very prompt service for you!

  • -7

Ok points offer, subpar point earn rate, excessive annual fee for second year and bizarre approval criteria = no thanks.
ANZ have previously rejected my application (and many others) for their black card even though I fully met their criteria, not wasting my time on them again.

    • +5

Churners don't care about point earn rate and annual fee for the second year.

  • -6

still haven't heard anything from ANZ, no email, no nothing since yesterday morning after submitting payslips via their website.

seems like i have been scammed.

    • Well based on my experience and others in the previous ANZ threads radio silence seems to mean that they need more information from you and you need to call them up (pretty weird that they don't reach out first).

      • -3

lol i would rather spend time hunting toilet papers than wasting more time calling them.

thanks anyway, i'll just move on.

        • +1

Well it could be a pretty small issue that's easily cleared up otherwise they would've just outright rejected you, and you've already taken the credit check hit anyway so still worth the call.

  • Can I clarify that the below would work.
I’m looking at buying a new MTB around $2500.
If I sign up to this deal and buy the MTB on this card, I’ll get 75,000 qantas points which I can then use to buy myself this new Garmin watch through the Qantas store using the 75000 points and $530.78 cash, then cancel the card within 12 months?
Also what’s the required salary for this card?

    • +1

Yes that's exactly how it works

  • +1

Weird. It’s been a while (days) and no response after them asking for proof of income.

    • -1

I spent 2 days totalling 4 hours on the phone, finally today I managed to speak to someone.

They said they have a very long queue, asked me to stop whinging and just wait.

      • If that’s the attitude then I’m happy either way - approval or rejection.

  • Applied! and now we wait

    • Did you receive any confirmation email from them?

  • Has anyone been approved yet? I called to find out how long till confirmation or rejection is and they said currently they are anticipating 1-2 week turn around time before they will contact me.

  • +1

Just started a new job so I sent them my employment contract instead of 2 payslips, let's see how it goes :P

So far a few people have been declined already, but only a couple of approved so far?

    • I am in a similar situation. Would you mind providing an update when you hear back from them? Cheers

      • +1

Will do. Fingers crossed for the both of us.

        • 1-2 week turn around time on current applications.

          • @solidice: @JHoliday any updates?

            • @pingualien: Nope not a peep… u?

                • +2

@pingualien: So they called me at 5.05pm today as I was boarding the train and I wasn't really in a position to talk on the train but they kept rattling off questions and I got a bit flustered. They ended up denying my application saying I need to reapply once I have worked for 3 months.

My credit rating also took a MASSIVE hit on CreditSavvy from 837 (Excellent) to 772 (Good) because of this inquiry on my file. I suspect it is due to the volume of inquiries over the past 5 years… it must have triggered some threshold because I have always been above 800 and Excellent.

                  • @JHoliday: Dam that sucks heaps, expecting the same for me too then. Thanks for the update

                    • @pingualien: My situation was a bit different as I took some time off last year to travel, as soon as she heard that I think she had made up her mind and denied the application.

She was quite rude… I asked her if I can call back next week when I wasn't on the train and she said - "you are not listening to me, you can apply again after 3 months of working"'

You might have better luck if you are going straight into this job from another job without taking a break like I did.

                      • @JHoliday: Thanks for that, I'll give them a ring today as they haven't provided me with an update. Fingers crossed that I get approved.

                      • @JHoliday: They said the same thing, 3 months of working but won't have to reapply but rather give them the payslips with the same application. But I'm guessing the offer wont be there anymore…

                        • +2

@pingualien: That sucks!! What's the point in accepting applications for candidates who have just started a new role if they are going to reject them automatically. They clearly state on their website if you don't have 2 payslips/newly employed that you can send a copy of a signed employment contract? I just took a massive hit to my credit score for nothing.

Did you go straight from your past job into this one?

                          • @JHoliday: Agreed! Nah I just graduated so I haven't had a full time job before this one. That may be an issue, but my friend went straight from his old job to this one as well but got the same reasoning. So it must be that they aren't accepting anyone who has started a new role.

    • +3

Similar situation to you and some others below. Just got off the phone after 1 hr on hold and will have to provide them with more payslips after 3 months of working. The gentlemen on the phone was very helpful and stated the FF offer that you signed up with will still be applicable. I will submit my extra payslips in a few more weeks and also confirm that this Pointhacks offer still applies.

      • Just got off the phone after 1 hr on hold

Cheers for that update. I've tried twice today, 15min each time before giving up.

Hopefully I get through before they close

  • +1

Does anyone else get an error when they submit their application? I tried it on multiple browsers and even a different PC but the message "Hmm, there seems to be a problem" pops up :/

    • Perhaps you have some third party software interfering with the process like anti-virus or a personal firewall.

  • Rejected - have an active black card with another bank, an IP mortgage and OO mortgage.

Income in the 6 figures. Never had an issue before but looks like they are really cracking down now.

    Has anyone been approved yet?

    • yeah i got approved, applied on 4/3 heard nothing since then, today got a approval sms.

but i lied all the figures about monthly spending and number of credit cards i have.

      • No point lying about number of credit cards as it all on your credit report.

        • that's right, so not sure why they asked to fill it up, i always put $5000 total credit limit

          • +1

@UncleCheapSteam: Yeah, I think its the same with the monthly expenditure, I'm sure they have algorithms they use to estimate it.

            • @madreece: spending i put $200 per month every time, never get rejected.

i always think, they sure want to give you a card, but they have to ask you questions and they need some answers, and the answers must be within their guidelines. i played their rules, so far so good.

              • @UncleCheapSteam: How do you survive with 200 per month?

              • @UncleCheapSteam: @Mugu They scale up your living expenses anyway. I Work at a big bank in the CC team and its a common thing for customer's to do. If its under a certain figure we have to ask questions as well which is more annoying.

  • HI There, sorry if this is a dumb question.

Do repayments on a car loan count towards the minimum spend to get the points?

  • -2

I'm planning to get a home loan in about 4 month's time. If I sign up now, claim my points and cancel, would it have an impact on my application for the home loan other than my credit rating dropping as a result of the credit check?

    • +1

I dont know why you would risk it with an impending home loan application. Just wait until after your home loan is approved and then start applying for a few cards.

A few bonus frequent flyers can wait over a home loan.

      • +1

I'm curious as to how much of an impact a credit card application is to a home loan application. I understand that holding credit cards means you'll have credit limits but I'm planning to cancel my cards before the home loan application just in case I need to increase my loan capacity.

        • -1

Why poke the bear if you dont have to?

Do you desperately need this credit card? No

          • @TightTerry: No but it is about maximising my opportunities. What's wrong with asking about it and trying to assess my risks before actually making a decision?

Judging by your response to my question (or lack thereof), it sounds like applying for a credit card application is high risk (which I understand would normally be high risk if I was applying for the home loan in a month's time) but you haven't explained why that is the case given my circumstances, where I have enough time to apply, get the bonus points and cancel before the home loan application…

    • How confident are you of getting the loan? I applied for multiple cards throughout my homeloan (actually told the loan manager during the appointent I was getting a Westpac Black that day as their packaged credit card product was rubbish). But I did have 25%+ deposit and no liabilities. So was very confident on getting a loan from basically anyone.

Interesting side note, during the loan porcess I cancelled 2 cards and gained 3 (plus a new loan), and my credit score went up around 15%. Mystery how it is calculated.

      • I'm pretty confident. I'm working in a profession where the banks are comfortable loaning me 90% and I've got 20%+ saved up. Parents are going to sign on as guarantors.

I've had a few discussions with some banks and they seemed quite comfortable too provided my financial circumstances don't change too drastically

        • Go for it, it's not a Black/ signature card (so you can set the card limit low, so definitely set it to the minimum). Then on the app were it asks about your cards, I just said I will cancel them and wrote "zero" liability. The manager (CBA) said "we may ask for evidence of the card cancellation". It never happened, but if it did, I would have just cancelled it. You have the $$ to close it on a moments notice, so who cares. But if you are a stressed, then don't do it. Plenty of these $0 cards pop up (long time no NAB, surely due soon).

          • @tunzafun001: I'm not worried about the limit. Like I said, I will definitely cancel this card before the application.

I only want to know what other risks there are besides:
            1) a hit on my credit rating; and
            2) if I don't cancel the credit card, then I'll won't be able to borrow as much

Are there other risks? Or is that all?

            • +1

@DevlicK: I think the main risk in your position would be that the credit card is denied. The approvals process is a bit of a mystery and while you will probably get accepted, there's all sorts of stories of people getting denied and being mystified as to why. In the perfect situation you are describing, where you get the CC now, cancel in 3 months, apply for the homeloan a month after that, you're probably fine.

BUT, in the smallish chance you get rejected on the CC, that rejection takes a bit longer to wash out of your credit report. The question people are asking is, are the points worth the chance? Only you can answer that.

              • @n1ckwylie: Thank you. That's a really good way to put it.

  • Is anyone else getting an error message when trying to submit the application?

  • just tried to apply for the card and got a straight up rejection from the application process. I have an ANZ travel rewards card and there wasn't an issue with that card.

  • From the T&C "where the funds are used to pay a bill at a bank branch or via an approved agent of the biller (for example, when funds are used to pay tertiary fees or utility bills);"

Does it means paying a bill (gas & electricity) thru BPay consider Cash Advance?

    Thanks.

    • +2

Bpayments don't count for points. Dont do this anymore (other than paying off the card itself). Always Postbillpay (and can often pay through PayPal which may yield more points on some cards).

      • I reckon we could pay Vicroads rego thru VISA instead of BPAY, and to be consider eligible spends as well? ANZ FB personnel confirmed its not considered Cash Advance.

  • +4

I don't understand how people are concerned about spending 2.5k in 3 months. Just put everything on your card and if you don't spend 2.5k by the end of 3 months then tell me your secret.

    • I think its more for people with multiple cards and have multiple minimum spends to clear.

      • What's their rush? Finish one then get the next. There's a 12th month gap before being eligible for that card again so better to stagger.

    • Private health premiums increase at the end of the month. Prepay them a year in advance. Spending just about done.

  • +1

    Approved
18 K worth of credit limit spread over 3 cards including ANZ traveller rewards
    80k income
    No mortgage or outsanding debts

  • +2

Got my text message to say I am approved. I was initially autodenied due to having already applied within the last 3 months. Called them up and they reevaluated over the phone.

    $66k income (part time)
    $15k limit on existing card
    $240k left on mortgage
    No other debts

    • Thanks for the update!! Based on your comments, it took a week from the time you called them right?

The stats are very promising when compared to mine

      • +1

Yeh a week after I uploaded my payslips and mortgage statement
