Hi all,

This deal replaces the 2600/3500X / 1070 pairing from Feb and are limited in number. It's now offered at the lowest possible entry pricepoint paired with the Ryzen 5 1600 AF, taking into account rising component prices and lower dollar.

Note on the GTX 1070 cards: They were installed in systems for a gaming event and then not used since, so have barely been used. Although they are out of manufacturer's warranty, we are offering a full 1 year warranty on them as part of our assembled system warranty. They are not available for separate purchase.

    I am looking for a cheapish gaming PC for my home.
    I currently have a Acer Predator Helios 300 which has a Intel Core i7 8750H with 16GB RAM and GTX 1060

    Ideally would like to be able to play most games at high settings at 1440p

    Would the Ryzen 5 1600 AF / GTX 1070 8GB Budget Gaming PC be an upgrade over my gaming laptop or not really?

      No, 2070S IMO for 1440. Ryzen 3500x would be a good CPU.

        I do recognise the argument for the 3500X, but if it is within your budget I'd aim for 3600; as I expect many future game releases to make use of more CPU threads than currently. I can't predict the future, but both the PS5/next XBOX are expected to have 8C/16T CPU's. Most games will not be handicapped by a good 6-core CPU currently, but already there are some.

          I myself went the 3600 for the 1% lows on my recent 3440x1440 setup (could ruin the g=sync / freesync experience). Given the extra $150 premium, I don't think its worth it for a more budget focused build. As long as the Mobo is up to task, there will be new CPU's and RAM can be upgraded to 3200 speed later.

          Given I went for the 2070S and the new Xbox is quoting similar Tflops, it will be interesting to see if I should have waited and dropped Windows OS on one of these toys for much less…

      If you want 1440p at High Settings, maybe this deal will suffice for now, but for future games look for 5700XT or 2070Super deals

      Is it a full 1060 or a max-q? The laptop (full) 1060 is generally 5-15% slower than its desktop counterpart, especially when thermal throttling. The 1070 is said to be about 30% faster in general than a 1060.

      You could possibly see 35-50% increase in FPS with this machine.

        Thanks guys, It's the full laptop 1060 not the max-q.
        I'm looking at possibly offloading the laptop as I realized I never take it out of the house and put any funds towards my full time desktop rig.

        I've been out of the PC scene for a while so not 100% across all the current configs. I would just like something that is semi-future proof and as I mentioned capable of high detail settings at 2K/1440p where possible.

        I don't do anything taxing on CPU, Mainly just browsing and gaming.
        So won't need to encode or do anything demanding other than my gaming.

        Is now a good time to upgrade on tech?

          I would personally wait for Ryzen 4000 and Nvidia 3000 series (they could release later half of this year or even next year, specially considering the current situation due to Corona Virus etc.)

          So if you could wait, then wait.
          If you need to buy a PC, don't wait - buy now.

            @Bappy: Not in a major rush, Just saw how many upvotes the past few TechFast deals had gotten and was impressed with the prices.
            But I would rather wait if there are marked performance improvement in the upcoming 12-18 months.

      CPU wise I think your laptop is faster but not by much maybe a 3-4% but laptops are known to throttle fan wise which affects CPU and GPU performance.

      GPU wise your desktop with a GTX 1070 will be a huge upgrade over the GTX 1060 Mobile.

      Keep in mind the desktop only has 8GB 2666MHz RAM and 120GB SSD so you will need to upgrade those if you plan to play a few games at a time.

      At 1440P the CPU will be your bottleneck assuming you upgrade to 16GB of RAM.

      Personally it is an odd pairing not optimum but still not bad for a convenient buy with everything already all pre built which can be a huge stress relief and save you money in the long run.

      If you are accident prone like me and fear accidentally breaking a pin or shorting a capacitor with a screw driver then this is for you because they give peace of mind.

      Otherwise you could probably do better on the PSU, SSD, RAM and CPU for same money if you shop it right or even haggle with some used PC's on gumtree, Facebook, ebay etc.

      Motherboard is meh but it will do for generic gaming builds.

      Quick rough comparison of your laptop and desktop you may change as needed if I got any components wrong since I had to guess some parts but generally it is accurate just missing the motherboards.

        The 10XX series mobile GPU's were the 1st I know of to use a crippled version of the desktop GPU's rather than a different design all together. I was running a laptop with 1070 mobile, it was impressive for a laptop and I expect not miles behind the 1070 desktop (~10% from memory). Great for 1080 and I ran a lot of 2560x1080 without dramas, but some settings had to be pulled down a little.

      If we choose to upgrade the RAM on this one for $80 (bringing it to $730), apart from a marginally worse graphics card (Ryzen 5 1600AF is very similar to Ryzen 5 2600), it's only $10 more. So it's not that bad. Unless I'm missing something?
