which one to get as first macbook?

    • +2

the best you can afford. though air is good for lighter carry

      • +1

        No deals in title?

    • -1

13" 256GB MBP with Touch Bar

      • +17

I would stay away from the 13” Macbook Pro until Apple has change the butterfly keyboard.

        • I've had to replace mine multiple times. Are they still using them?

          • -1

@DrC: Never had issues with mine.

            • +4

@Elijha: Happy foor you. I'm just not getting another one because I'm siick of my typing coming out like this and don't wantt o risk it

        • -1

I have 13” MBP 2019, my keyboard is great and I like it

        • +2

The other reason to hold off on the 13" MPB is it's likely to be refreshed soon, ala 16" version. They keyboard will likely be updated than also.

    • +1

Would entirely depend on what you want to do with it/ need it for

      • +1

record and edit music (teenager is an aspiring musician). thank you so much for the input everyone.

        • +1

Kind of similar to me as I originally needed mine to run a couple of music programs that only ran on Mac OS. Simply just recording and simple editing audio isn't too processor and memory hungry, in my opinion you'd be able to get away with the cheapest spec Air and have great portability when needed. If we're talking about going into music production the extra power and memory will be a must, any of the MBP they have listed should be fine

      • which one if i'm doing a lot of typing and coding

        • +1

          16" MBP

    • macbook air, have the previous model and love it.
idea of touch bar didn’t do it for me because if you are doing a lot of content creation, use a mouse not a touch pad, and once you use the mouse you don’t need gadgets built in that are there because they designed ergonomics for people that don’t use a mouse e.g students in lectures with limited desk space, people in meetings checking emails while others present boring powerpoints, etc.
decision would be i3 vs i5 …..i5 if you have the cash, i3 if you don’t.

storage isn’t as big a deal, the samsung external drives on usb c are lightning fast if you feel you need more storage, how often do you access in a week everything you have on a lap top.

i also have windows10 laptop and desktop.

you can use the macbook air in bed on a doona, sucks air in from the back and blows out from under the keys, you can’t notice it, windows laptops usually suck air in from bottom and overheat. also means macbook air is great to use on your lap e.g on train.

jb often have 10% off, then get office works to,price match and boom ….15% off ….that is how i got 15% off my 2019 macbook air.

      • +2

This Macbook Air has a fan that does not physically contact the CPU. It's literally just for ventilation. If you watch reviews on youtube, the CPU quickly hits 100 degrees Celcius and stays there. I'd be afraid of getting this since it may warp the motherboard/logicboard due to heat, and will be expensive to repair outside of warranty. If you're only after it for basic tasks, it should be fan.

        • I want to know if there are any custom mods you can do to connect the heatsink to the fan some how.

    Shipping $30

  • HOw much is the cheapest 16"?

    • $3229 + $30 shipping

      • -1

Think this one sold out. Can’t see it

        • Nope. Still in stock. max discount $300 -> $3499

          • -1

@OrangeBJ: Ah so false alarm on the comment.
            Couldn’t see that lower price.

  • When applying coupon code, It says "This code can't be applied to your order.". Please help.

  • Is this cheaper or apple education pricing

    • +3

This deal is cheaper than Apple edu.

      • Also while you're here, which option would be the new 2020 12.9' space grey 128gb iPad Pro?

My screen cuts off and I can only see the model number!

      • Cheaper but post time is almost a month longer

        • yeah what's with that? no current stock?

      • Note though education pricing will discount built to order purchases too, so if you want to chop and change components and not go with a standard SKU then the education pricing may be better. Education from memory also discounts Apple Care a bit, if you’re planning on getting that (maybe you can still get the Apple Care on its own with Edu pricing but…unsure).

    • a touch cheaper like <$50 savings after you include shipping from Wireless1

      • +1

Edu pricing is cheaper for the 16 inch models as this discount is capped at $300

  • i donot think it is a good deal. the max discount is 300, 16 mbp 1tb is 4100 after discount. apple edu is 4079. everyone can access to edu store

    • Max discount should be mentioned in the title and/or details

    • $300 max discount ruins the deal

    • +3

everyone can access to edu store

You might be able to access the store, but what are you going to do when Apple ask you to provide proof of your student/teacher status if you're not actually one?

      • I don’t think they do, at least not for online sales. Let’s say they did…they’d be required to refund you and you’re no worse off.

        • I don’t think they do.

          They've asked me before.

          • @dm01: What happened? Did they call you up or email you asking for ID or something?

            • @Smigit: It was an online purchase, and Apple contacted me and required I send through a photo of my student ID to verify my eligibility.

              It's in their sales policies.

              • @dm01: Interesting. Good to know!

              • @dm01: All you have to do is just order it and check pick up for someone else and they won’t ask you for ID. How I got my MBP 13” 2019 with Beats Studio 3s for $1800 then sold the Studio 3s so totals down to $1500

                https://www.apple.com/au_edu_5004797/shop/back-to-school
Use that link for cheaper than normal EDU pricing from apple

                • +1

@summerlmao: But Apple stores arent open at the moment due to COVID-19

          • +1

@dm01: Who on earth is the sensitive snowflake negging this?

Can't handle hearing that Apple verify edu. store eligibility at their discretion?

If that's enough to get you feeling negative, just wait til you get out into the real world!

            • +2

@dm01: Agree! I up-voted you so you are now square :)

  • +5

Wait for the new 13” MacBook model with the better keyboard.

    • -2

there are 2020 models listed as well

      • -2

The 2020 ones listed still have the crappier design keyboard

      • +2

Refresh expected end of May - wait for those ones.

        • Please please please please let this new keyboard be better. My 2013 MBP needs an upgrade :)

          • @bdl: I’ve heard it is.

          • @bdl: Wouldn't make sense to change every other model except the 13..

  • +16

Shipping shouldn't be this long even with COVID-19, 1 month? Looks like you don't actually have the stock and are just purchasing once people order first

    • +1

      The OP isn't a Rep.

    • Thanks for sharing your insights into "Logistics During Periods Of Unprecedented Global Pandemic".

It may blow your mind to learn this, but a big chunk of the products you might order off apple.com.au aren't held in stock in Australia either.

    • +1

How is this a valid neg? Longer than usual shipping times quoted during an unprecedented global event that has effected virtually every single industry. From a very reputable store at that.

  • It's not 15% off? The $2699 13" only -$300.

    • +4

Max discount for the code is $300. Reduced effective discount for purchases over $2000.

      • +2

So it’s “up to 15% off” based on the retail price listed

  • +7

i wonder why 30$ shipping for ebay plus

    • Coz wireless1 is no longer an EbayPlus Store

  • +4

Absolutely no plan to update. Using mid 2015 15inch MacBook Pro bought from dick Smith for $2330. Still going strong

    • +1

That was one of the finest with all ports. Will definitely last few more years.

    • +5

I just returned a 2020 MacBook Air (i5, 16GB, 1TB) after only 2 days use and have gone back to my Early 2015 MacBook Pro 13" (dual core i5, 8GB, 256GB) as the new air absolutely crawled with even just a few safari tabs open; the CPU was instantly hitting 100deg, maxing out the fan continuously, and subsequently crippling the CPU turboboost. It felt ten times slower and ten times louder than my old one.

      • Struggling with just safari tabs open ? Did you have any other apps open?

        • +4

Agree, that sounds unlikely to be true. Could be other apps in background consuming CPU.

        • Yes just safari. Clean Catalina install, nothing else added. Granted I did enable FileVault on the Air during install when it prompted me, which I've never used on my old model. But still, my old one will happily sit with 70+ tabs open and performance is still snappy, cpu temp sits around 50-60deg. I found on the new Air just 20 tabs open and everything ground to a very noisy halt.

      • +5

Agree. I've seen Max Tech reviews that have tested the new Air and it overheats with the mildest of tasks. Doesn't actually have thermal link between the cpu and the fans "wtf"

        • +1

Yes, that missing thermal link is its biggest problem. Apple has so much money, they could have invested in better R&D.

          • @John Doh: My skeptical side thinks that the new 10th gen Intel chips in the Air are faster than the MacBook pro because the pro doesn't have those chips yet, so Apple decided to make the Air overheat and throttle so people would pay extra for the MacBook pro

            • @casho: Might be. Might not be. But the next gen MBP 13"(or 14") will definitely have better CPU than the air. So you never know why they did it.

  • +4

300$ max,not good as edu price for 16“ models

  • +1

What sort of USB C hubs/adaptors are people buying to make the MBAs useable with other accessories?

  • +1

Hmm, the title is slightly misleading.

Any item over $2k maxxes your discount at $300. So probably okay for cheap Macbook Air, but forget about it for the more expensive items over $2k.

    • Updated ebay terms in Description & Title ( Max discount $300) - Thanks

  • Any 16gb MBA models?

    • cant see anywhere except on Apple

    • I believe the only "off-the-shelf" configurations are i3 + 256GB storage + 8GB RAM and i5 + 512GB storage + 8GB RAM

To get anything else, you need to configure directly through Apple (afaik)

  • +4

Thank you OP - I was waiting for this promo to come along, grabbed an MBA i3

  • +1

What the hell. What processors do they use? 10th gen cpu is very vague.

    • +3

Hello! Welcome to Apple specifications. :)

    • They are Y based low power CPU's

  • +2

ITS NOT 15% OFF if the item is over 2k$, the more you go over 2k$ the lower the % of savings.

So any 16" MBP is less than 10% savings. Misleading title.

  • great price

  • Trying to purchase and I get this message when I click “buy now”

The seller isn't accepting bids or offers from you.

    Any reason why?

    • -3

You can't make an offer, its that price and the seller is not negotiating andy discounts on this product.

  • ‘Buy now’ shouldn’t trigger that message. Looks like an eBay glitch.

  • thx bought 3
