    • What else would you use the internet for?

  • Signed up and using this,

Just a couple of things, the retention is only 30 days, so its only for finding NEW "stuff" generally.

I am using http://nzbmatrix.com/index.php (Index site) and http://sabnzbd.org/ (download Client)
    (Guide) http://wiki.sabnzbd.org/

Being free, it may not work all the time, the webpage was down most of the weekend for me, needless to say, I could use them to connect to "Usenet"

But it is free, so you get what you pay for :)

    • Correction: retention is 600+, did they change it, I thought it was only 30 day originally?

  • Does anyone have a recommendation for NZB downloaders for max OSX 4.11….

sabnzbd requires me to do something on the terminal - talks about python. I will happily live with some older software if someone can recommend something for me :)

    I have found this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_Usenet_newsreader…

    • I have SAB running on OS X and it is a pure delight. if you are talking about iOS, then yes, you could be on 4.11. If on OS X, are you saying you are still stuck on Tiger, which was 10.4?

      • Thanks Daabido. yep i have Tiger 10.4.11 but SAB doesnt work without some adjustment given i am on 10.4…it is listed on sab website…maybe i will have to work it out :(

    • mac > NZBVortex is a good one, free on their website otherwise you can come across the registered version with a little searching online

otherwise SABNZBd as also good mentioned above

      Windows > binsearch

    • mac > NZBVortex is a good one, free on their website otherwise you can come across the registered version with a little searching online

      otherwise SABNZBd as mentioned above

  • If you forget your login or use a fake email, that you can't log into, it won't work.
I used an old email that I forgot the password too and had to make a second one using my mobile data connection.

  • +1

    Nice 1st post.

  • Anyone else getting:

There is a maximum of 1 account per user. You don't have an account yet? Then contact our supportdesk

Tried two different e-mail addresses to no avail.

    • I believe it's 1 account per ip address

    • That's really odd cause I've never come across or heard of Usenet until this deal…

    • same here

    • Yep, I confirmed it's 1 per IP. As a result if you have a dynamic IP then it's possible you'll be blocked without getting an account.

  • Thanks op. Incredibly slow though, currently maxing at 100k/s. But a good backup for my main usenet account if I don't need files in a hurry.

    • -1

You know that 100 kilobytes per second is pretty close to 1 megabit per second right. 8 bits = 1 byte.

      • -1

You know what is meant. It's extremely sad to constantly have these arguments on the net when someone accidentally get a unit wrong sigh. kB/s, are you happy now?

0.1MB/s is extremely lousy for a usenet provider so this is next to useless unless you don't mind having stuff queued for hours.

        • He wasnt having a go at you for "b" or "B" (or K)

The deal is for 1Mbps; your "100KBps" is almost 1Mb.

In other words, obviously it is going to go at that speed, it is in the title. Did you expect to get 500Kbps on it?

      • My apologies Daabido, I did miss the 1Mbps max for this plan (could have sworn it wasn't in the title when I posted? I guess I missed it). Thanks Duff5000 for making the correction.

  • What's 36 + 8 equal?

    • +3

36 + 8 = 44, you have to insert the answer, it just a double spam stopper kinda thing

      • Thank you good sir.

  • Signed up this morning, haven't got the email yet. Guess I'm the only one judging by this.

    • Signed up at ~5pm.
      No email yet.

    • +2

I found it in my Junk box. Check there.

      • +1

Hey thanks -same thing happened to me…Stupid not to think of that…..

        • +1

          thanx.

  • 1Mbps is a little slow - think it's better value to splurge $5 at thundernews and grab an account for a month or two to see if it is what you're into

  • Set this up tonight with Sick Beard and SABnzbd. All working great :)

The speed is a downer, but I can't complain for free.

  • I tried to sign up with telstra mobile & it said only one account per user. I'm on holidays and dont have any other connection to try with. Oh well not my lucky day i guess

  • When signing up it asks what country. Netherlands, Germany or Belgium. Does it matter?

    • Nope. I just used netherlands

  • Does anyone know if I can use multiple account from different IP Adresses with one usenet client ?

  • This is very handy for me being a long time astraweb prepaid user. I will use this for anything that I don't need in a hurry, thus saving astraweb credit.

  • Got an account. Thanks op and Ozbargain!

  • anyone know if you can change your username?

  • This is good to use as a "Backup" server to a main Usenet account. If you set this server as "Backup" in SABnzbd, it will use this server to search for any articles it couldn't find on your main provider.

    • Yeah I did the same, and it already found a few things that were missing on Astraweb.

  • does using usenet count towards your monthly download quota with your ISP if it does, what are the pros?

    • yes, and you don't upload

      • -5

thats crap, im a seeder not a leecher

  • anyone want to explain what it is? How to use it?
is it worthwhile for a relative beginner with computer knowledge?

    • nope it does take some setting up - and look through the posts, this has been asked.

  • Thank you so much, this is brilliant. I'm downloading a amazon exclusive classical music sampler that they wont let me legally download.

  • Any idea why keep getting "one account per user" when I have yet to sign up? Tried multi emails

    • It's one account per IP address

If you have a static IP address, it is possible another person in your household already has your account
If you have a dynamic IP address, it will be very very unlikely for you to sign up for an account

  • Hmmm. This screams honey pot. Everyone just jumps in with eyes wide shut.
