Wasn't it cheaper during the last boxing day sale?

    • +9

It's been cheaper hundreds of times before but covid has pushed the demand and prices up.

      • +1

Thanks. Just wanted to know the reason.

        • Nintendo just announced their production will back in track very soon.

          • @superforever: Think I saw on planet America, the pandemic shut down a factory in a quarantine zone that makes some critical part that's needed to make these consoles.

Hey guys thinking about this or a lite for a four year old who already has a PS do you think the lite is good enough ?

    • +1

Providing you don't want to output to your TV, the lite is perfect for a four year old.

    • The lite will be a better size and weight for a young'in.

    • +1

Keep in mind there are some games not compatible with the Lite. Stuff like Just Dance and Super Mario Party.

    • -4

The last thing you want to do is encourage children to play video games, guess it makes the parents job easier.

    • Only 4 years old? Can the kid even use it? So young..

    "2019 console"

Does that differ from 2020 Switches?

    • +21

There’s only two variants, 2017 (launch) and 2019 (revision with better battery life). There’s no 2020 version

  • +2

Are there people without switches still?

    • +16

yes i am still looking to buy one but approval is not granted yet.

      • +3

Wishing you the best of luck with the approval. 👍

          Ah the WAF…

"School / university holidays and this will get them away from screens/tik tok/ netflix

          Tick - approved :)

        Minister of Finance & War?

    • I think im one of the few people that still have no plans on getting one. I've had zero interest in nintendo products and games in general since primary school.

    • +1

I got pre approval for sub $420. Now i need a good deal on animal crossing.

    • Yes, I don't right now. I'm not getting another one until they fix the drifting joy cons.
I'm not buying new joy cons every 6 months because they are designed to be faulty.

All Nintendo have said after 3 years is "Sorry" a couple days ago. No replacements, no redesign, nothing.

My friend visited JB HI FI last week, and the sales person offered him $399. Worth a try ;)

    • Receipt ?

    • +8

Pretty impressed with this. I've never thought about trying to sell to the staff before!

    • +4

My friend visited JB HI FI last week, and the sales person offered him $399

Damn, your friend must be really handsome lol

      • The friend may be very pretty and hot!

    • Sometimes it happens. I was going to buy Super Mario Maker 2 in Target with my flybuys but I haven’t converted it into flybuys dollars (would take 30 mins). Was offered $40 to buy it in cash instead of $69.

  • Pre-order a 2019 console

Man I wish I could go back time…

    • +10

Unless you want to go through first half of 2020 again…

  • +5

We're nearly back to RRP as deals, crazy times!

    • Where you've been the last 3 months? RRP was considered a deal, twice actually.

      • -1

Throwback to winter 2k17 where I purchased mine secondhand with 2 games for $400

        • +3

I think the best was $349 with Mario Kart 8 + $35 back from Zip + $15 back from Shopback. About $250 for the console if you consider MK8 worth $50

      • I know, I meant when people were posting >>RRP prices (eg. $480 switch- wtf?) as bargains. I guess maybe $460-480 is rrp, but it sure shouldn't be lol

        • Oh ok though I don’t how it’s almost RRP prices again. This is the lowest since COVID lockdown
Edit: I think your getting RRP ($469.95) confused with usual price (~$400 pre-COVID)

          • @FireRunner: My memory of pre covid was you could walk in off the street and get a switch any day of the week for $400, often $380 and $350 was a cracker deal. I just never saw $460 as rrp for them hah

            • @SolidworksError: If you ever want to know the RRP just go into EB Games, lol. Most places had $400 as the usual price until the shortages hit

  • +4

Waiting for the pre COVID rates .. hopefully we will have a game included at this price Very soon ..

    • +1

I want one, don’t need one, so waiting for Black Friday, till then it’s good old steam games to keep me occupied.

      • I'm in the same boat. Thought it is tempted so I can play the Mario Maker 2 update that I missed.

  • This is nuts. People are constantly talking about Nintendo Switch, and everyone I know seems to have one, but when you look at the Australian market share for consoles, for nintendo it's 0.72%!! What am I missing here???

    • Source?

        • +1

          Data looks like complete garbage
Xbox market share grew from 35% to 65% from Jan 2019 to April 2020? No way that happened. Switch sales have definitely ramped up in the last few months. The Swich has outsold the Xbox One on a worldwide scale. It’s popular in Australia, I suspect Nintendo has a larger market share than Xbox

          • @FireRunner: fair. unsure how reliable statcounter is.

            • @thethinker: Statcounter doesn't track sales of products. It simply collects and tracks device level data on pages that have their tag.
It's basically showing that more people visit their tagged web pages on Playstation and Xbox, than Nintendo devices…
Source: https://gs.statcounter.com/faq#methodology, "What methodology is used to calculate Statcounter Global Stats?" section

              • @nolimbs: interesting. Still with that methodology would you expect there to be such a huge disparity then between 'real' market share, and what they report? Doesn't sound like a very reliable way to measure market share, but none-the-less, the margin is immense!

                • @thethinker: Considering the Switch has no generic web browser, you would expect it to be all but invisible to Statcounter. I'd expect that 'Nintendo' line is exclusively from other consoles with browsers (Wii, 3DS, etc.)

                  • +1

@nsctt: ah! i didn't know that. thanks for clarifying everyone. another mystery solved.

                  • @nsctt: They can have their own "browser" they might be using Firefox or Chrome's browser enginer under the hood, such browsers have their own signature like "Mozilla/5.0 (Nintendo Switch; WifiWebAuthApplet)" which can be tracked by sites like Statcounter.

  • I just buy it on Amazon… What a pity

  • Express post upgrade with eBay Plus doesn't work for us people on the West Coast :-(

  • I bought it 2 weeks ago for my son, paid full deposit of $449 @jbhifi, got it last week.

  • Not a big discount

  • Cheers, claimed price protection on it!

  • I do not reckon this is a good deal. You were able to grab Catch gift cards with 15% off few days ago. Catch is selling switch $448. If you just bought 4*$100 and one $50 gift card, it will bring it down to $382(remaining $2 in your gift card).

    • +2

And eBay cards were effectively 10% off at Woolworths last week also, which is cheaper if you picked them up. This is the best solo price currently.

      • I see,but I stack some GCs and now make the ring fit adventure game only cost $92.65($109*0.85). Lowest price currently.
