Disposable Face Mask (Box of 50) $14.80 Delivered @ Jumbo Small eBay

1713

Hi,

Following the other deal that expired very quickly, it seems that a lot of people are looking for cheap masks.

Not affiliated with the seller, but it's the cheaper I found on ebay.
Alternative seller (I bought from this one Monday and received it on Friday, but the bulk buying discount is a bit lower) : https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/50x-Disposable-Mask-Face-Masks-A…

Both are located in NSW, couldn't find a cheap seller in VIC.

And if you buy them, please have a quick search on how to wear them properly ;)

Cheers

Edit: Price now $14.80 (down from $15)

    • With a broken welfare system that breeds self-entitlement?

      You're dreaming.

        • Balanced and no loophole tax system.

Best of luck with that though.

      • You talking about the same welfare system that hands out taxpayer dollars in the billions to multinationals, millionaires, entitled retirees, investment house owners etc etc, or just the one you heard about on shockjock radio and read about in the Murdoch press. Simplistic tosh.

    • There is no market for these in Australia. The culture here is different. Everybody is ashamed to be seen wearing a mask in public.

I dunno dude, mines covered in spikes, LEDs and a Bluetooth speaker, yet is still rated for painting with organic vapors when I put the right cart in there.

Embrace the cyberpunk within and feel no shame.

  • If you ever learned physics you’d more likely to know it’s NOT simply that the smaller the particles the harder they get filtered out.

In fact, ~0.3μm is the turning point where particles slightly smaller than this could be filtered out more easily due to electrostatic effect (this is actually the fundamental of how masks work). That’s why the 95% filtration rate is tested with particles at approx this size—slightly bigger than this could go through a N95/KN95 mask, and the name means approx 5% of those would go through.

So stop simply comparing filtration rate as long as the masks do the right job. For the KN95 standard, it is fine as long as it’s not fake. 3M is good, but also expensive. Ask a medic, and he/she would very likely tell you that N95 is not a must for general public under this circumstance.

Support Australian manufacturing and buy masks made from https://www.medcon.com.au/
At least you will know that they meet Au standards

      • Sorry no. But I’m sure there must be retailers out there.

        • That is a very reasonable price for "Made in Australia" and having that piece of mind. I am almost tempted to try a local bulk buy and get it from Med-Con themselves;
          https://www.medcon.com.au/freight/
          I am based at 4116.

          • @Bold Eagle: I bought them last night and some other ppe from Bulk Buys.

How much do you need to order to buy directly?

I assumed they didn't sell retail so I didn't think we had the option to buy direct?

Couldn't see any online store or way to create an account with Med-Con.

            • @nismo: They are not questions I can answer and would suggest you give them a call themselves?

              • @Bold Eagle: You spoke as if you could put an order in with them. That's why I asked. I've already made my order (via another site, as mentioned).

I checked the Med-Con website fairly well yesterday and other than a phone number couldnt see how to buy from them…

I think they are wholesale / industry only in terms of sales.

My opinion is that they dont sell to public, from what I gather.

I have no need to call them.

                Good luck!

Got some. Thoughts are for trips through the airport and pub transport. Hopefully they are good enough for that.

    • seriously: good luck wearing these mask…

      • +3

You have an unlucky face shape?

Ive had no issues wearing them.

    • -2

The only this mask could do is protect others from you if you are infected yourself. But it will not protect you from catching it from others.

      • So, what you’re claiming is that it prevents droplets passing out of the mask (protects others from you) BUT let’s droplets pass in through the mask (will not protect you from others).
That doesn’t make a lot of sense to me unless the masks have a breathing valve (some do) in which case the opposite is true. The wearer is somewhat protected (blocks in), others without masks are not (breathes/droplets released out of valve).
        Perhaps you are confused?

      • Any filtration or barrier is superior to none unless it invokes a change to breathing habits.
An example would be causing the wearer to breath more deeply due to restriction (this could be worse than no mask under some circumstances)
True medical-grade masks, properly worn and following all handling guidelines are the way to go.

    And cover your bloody noses!

    • Ditto, wonder what's with all those images I see on the news of people only covering their mouths with it….

      • They can’t breathe.

        • Fair enough - i guess it can be weird and uncomfortable at the beginning.

          • +1

@kacak: Honestly it's not as bad, I have asthma and I can easily wear them.

I won't run a marathon with them, but people telling they can not breathe with a mask are a big joke.

We’re should be very careful about the range of masks in the Australian marketplace as referenced here https://www.safetysure.com.au/safety-advice/respirator-quali…

This is largely an unregulated area at this time. Governments may move to an approved list very soon.

  • +1

I purchased $300 worth of genuine 3m n95 respirators which got me about 50 back in early February people thought I was crazy for buying that much but considering that the vaccine has a long way to go and we don't know how things play out. I made the right decision.

This cheap masks that are here for sale don't protect you at all don't buy them waste of money.

This cheap masks that are here for sale don't protect you at all don't buy them waste of money.

Where is your basis to back up that claim?

They have the same (claimed) construction of a surgical mask.

A proper surgical mask is usually made of three layers, including an outer hydrophobic non-woven layer, a middle melt-blown layer, and an inner soft absorbent non-woven layer.

  • +16

The product description has now been revised (@ 08:57am today) and the BFE 99.99% Rating has been removed.
Therefore, at the time of purchase it was a deceptive and inaccurate description with a potentially significant impact on the mask's effectiveness and quality.
Makes me seriously doubt the authenticity and reliability of both the mask and the seller!

  • +1

I'm guessing these are from China? If so no deal. My friend brought some on eBay and when we tried them on the elastic band snapped out of position.

  • +4

If you can’t smell your fart or it smells less, then your mask is doing something.

No matter it’s N95 or what layers, it DOES protect you if you are not a frontier worker and you just want to be safer than not wearing one. It’s also a icon to remind you and people around to keep social distance and go home immediately if you are hanging around for nothing necessary, or those Murdoch media watcher to watch what is just made up today and who is going to be blamed. If you got any chance to buy some masks, do it and put it on for god sake.

Any links to buy disposable surgical masks Made in Australia that meet Australian standard would be appreciated.

      • You missed this line which is a lot more reasonably priced;

        MedCon - Surgical Mask - 3PLY - 99% BFE - 99% PFE - Australian Made - 50pc - Price:
        $59.99

        https://www.bulkbuys.com.au/products/medcon-tie-surgical-mas…

        • +1

I just emailed about those ones. Apparently they are classed as Level 1 whereas these https://www.bulkbuys.com.au/products/medcon-high-filtration-… are Level 3.
Level 3 has the addition of fluid resistance - usually used in surgery etc

          • +1

            @King Tightarse: Level 3 yeah, but at $190 for 50pcs - I'm out.

I bought the 50 for $59.95 last night - which I think is reasonable for Made in Aus.

And I'm assuming can't be worse than a $15 pack from China that is highly likely not built to any spec.

            • +1

@nismo: Should be OK. I emailed back asking which they would recommend for elderly parents as a measure against Covid when shopping.
There are just too many fakes to buy imported. Some are good and fully accredited but you never know if you are getting the real deal or a copy.
EDIT. Yes, Medcon products are A1. No worries there

              • @King Tightarse: Tell me about it! I got lost on ebay / google for several hours yesterday looking for something authentic / legit and gave up in the end. Even the ones I saw on Bunnings didn't give me enough confidence to buy (KN95 made in china) - not the same type (but for household/public use).

A guy on here was trying to encourage that we do need to pay a premium to get good quality but when Bunnings (and Priceline) are selling masks at $5 per unit and they are potentially just cheap crap (from China), then what the hell? How do we know?

                • @nismo: Yep, my wife bought one of those el-crappo Priceline ones fir $5 yesterday. She asked if they were TGA approved and was told 'yes'
We opened it and its obviously cheap crap with no seal and KN95 printed on it but no other branding or approvals. Pretty outrageous to be selling goods such as these during a pandemic.
Little do they know, she works for the Health Department and she is pissed that they are selling these. So she is going to follow up on this.

                • +1

@nismo: OK here is the follow up from BulkBuys:

                  "Hello (KTA),

Unfortunately, as we are only a distributor of these products and not medical professionals, it would probably be best for your parents to consult their primary care physicians for any recommendations.

My only advice would be to carefully follow the WHO guidelines as much as possible. While many people still prefer to wear them, and many people have been buying and wearing general use, level 1 masks, they in no way guarantee protection from the virus, sadly.

                  Best regards,

                  Customer Happiness Officer

Reading between the lines, I think she is tacitly recommending Level 1 for shopping etc (without exactly saying so)

                  • @King Tightarse: Yeah, I don't think anyone is going to give that kind of guarantee.

This is the short version of what I've found online from the WHO:

The new guidance recommends that the general public wear cloth masks made from at least three layers of fabric “on public transport, in shops, or in other confined or crowded environments.”

hey guys, don't worry about masks. If BLM protests are allowed go ahead then everyone one else should be allowed to group together and freely transmit the virus.

    • -3

      Erm, they all wore masks…

    • +2

Fair point, except the Vic CHO has publicly stated that no virus spread resulted from the Melb march and afawk the same has applied to BLM marches in other cities. Out of interest did you make the same comment when the anti-vaxers and other assorted nutters marched in Melb - without any protection in the vast majority of cases?

Here is how to check if your masks are fake or real.

    https://www.nonda.co/blogs/covid19/update-march-28

    • Received mine today, bought from jumbosmall.

It come in a box however no plastic packaging for the masks

So this could be possibly fake mask based on Nonda website checks for fake mask.

Can't really complain though for $15

      • +1

No plastic packaging doesn’t mean it is fake. The good test to tell if it is fake is to do a waterproof test and to see if it is actually 3 plys.

        • +1

Just did the water test on mine. It's not fully water proof, water trapped between the layers and holding it under a tap for around 20 secs it started to soak. The masks I paid for at a premium remained dry under the same tests.

          • @RockyK9: I tested one of the masks yesterday. I wore the mask, took it out and filled it up with water to almost full. Hang it using both the earloops above the floor and left it there for almost half a day. No water drip to the floor. So I think these masks are quite waterproof and not fake.

            • @Klang: Yeah I realised that I went abit hard on my test, I tried to soak it with running water. I tried the flame test which was good. Also cut up to show 3 layers.

      • What is the brand name on the box? Thanks.

        • +1

          Guardian

  • They up the price to $31..dumb ass…

  • +2

I received mine a few days ago. Good value for $15. I put the outer facing layer under a dripping tap until it partially filled up. It did not transfer the water to inner layers. Not a scientific test, but passes my casual use case.

    • Sent from overseas. Due to limited air transit to Australia, it'll take more than one month to arrive.

  • Had to get tested on Saturday so went to put on one of these, first one broke right away, second one broke right away, third one I was super careful with and broke right away, fourth one I was even more careful with and broke right away.

Had to hold the mask to my face with my hand and get a replacement one from the testing clinic.

    What a waste of money.
