      • As far as I understand, they won't be withdrawing funds from the stored card this month. Then, in November invoice, they'll put a -$35 as an adjustment. Even though we'll all terminate services at the end of November, we'll still get the November bill (even if it's $0) because this is a postpaid service.

        • +2

Wont it be showing as "overdue" from 20-Nov-2020 to 06-Dec-2020?
Is that not a problem? Isn't it treated as an overdue bill? Whats the legality here?

        • +1

I don't think your cancellation at the end of this month would go through if you have any outstanding balance.

          • +1

@jackofspade: If they cause any more trouble, TIO will sort them out.

            • +1

@Miroslav: Why should we have to go to the TIO asking for them to remedy what Circles admits was their error? We are applying the blowtorch to Circles to make them see the sense in billing us correctly!

Your advice here seems to be to make things more complex!

In my experience with the TIO they took the side of the Telco (who pays them).

They refused to investigate even though I produced the telcos system notes showing I was right about the major problems the Telco caused over a week…
Staff at the Telco were so upset with my treatment they released the information.
It didn't persuade the TIO to see anything wrong, they told me I was in the wrong & should expect to compensate the Telco!!

They said they had investigated - that was the end of the matter!

Circles has raised a bill with an overcharge. Despite many complaints, their best offer is a reduction in the next bill.
The TIO may accept that as a workable solution for a post paid service (where people generally remain with the service over a longer time).

Leaving without paying the bill may not be looked on well by the TIO!

    • So basically they are just deferring your payment to next month. That's unacceptable because most of us are cancelling at the end of this month.

  • +1

I got an outcome…. So it seems…. But only time will tell.

    Snippet from the email….

"I have already sought approval to have the pending credit be used to offset the outstanding balance. As of writing, I can confirm that all accounts also have zero balance with no financial obligations from your end, and I am assuring you that everything has been resolved."

Do I take this with a grain of salt?

    • +1

Delaying tactics and buying time. It's however clear from all the comments here, that we are not settling for anything less than a waiver of the incorrectly charged $38. So expect it sooner, or later :-)

      • +1

"all accounts have zero balance with no financial obligations"

This outcome has the same effect as applying the bill waiver.

        That's good enough for me.
In taking cases against businesses, I've learnt - you have to take your wins when you can.
But I won't trust Circles again!

        • Does this reflect on your Circles App, TomGum? It should not show that your bill is still "Unpaid". What does it show as of now? Could you check and respond?

I have sent them a follow up as I have not received any reply after their first standard response on Fri, 6th stating that they are "aware" of this issue.

          • @djoz: Well this is the Infidel😊

The bill will not be changed. (As we have been told - it can't be changed.)
As such the outstanding balance of $38 owing will be unaffected.

But - after the bill is due, the outstanding amount should change to $0! (Not necessarily immediately.)
Their system should apply a $38 credit (originally due next month) to all affected accounts after the due billing date.

It is likely that is the only way their billing system can handle the changes necessary due to their error. There are often limitations in all billing systems, where a work-around needs to be developed to handle extraordinary situations like this.

            Time will tell.

            • +1

@INFIDEL: I agree, but for them to expect a normal customer (like us) to understand these technicalities is not justified. If its not possible - do a manual update. Yes, that's breaching the system, but thats only becasue you breached a legal contract with your customers - something much more grave. I don't think its much of an issue, and as you have highlighted earlier, the waivers have been given for the "first month" charges to other users on other promotions who had complained in a similar manner.

I'd expect the waiver to be given, and the due amount to be updated to $0.00 so that everything is clear and our Service Successfully terminates at the end of the month as planned.

All this is unnecessary headache. Should have just avoided them in the first place.

              • @djoz: I've always been confident Circles will resolve this matter.

They just needed some inducement to find a solution that resulted in a $0 balance for us before the end of this month.

That does take time - first to realise their mistake, than find a solution their business systems can handle without much disruption.

Now they've found a possible solution. It will probably need to be tested before it is generally made known.

[My background as a former very different consultant to businesses (had a State Manager of a multinational playing with children's toys on the floor of my office. He developed a very profitable new area for the business in 5 minutes of play😊) gives me some insight into the possible issues for Circles. I've found solutions when none seemed possible - simply by helping others see the problem differently.]

Circles say they can't change the bill, so change the outcome by adding $38 credit this month. It would solve the problem for us, in that nothing is owing at the end of the month - same as if 2 monthly discounts were delivered as promised

    • +1

Well that's a very promising development. Amazing what threats of taking this to the TIO can do!

As long as Circles sticks to this commitment better than they did with their own T&C with us!!

A first step is for Circles to communicate that commitment to all affected!!

They said they couldn't update the upcoming bills. But, they have cleared us to move on without threats of an outstanding debt. I'm happy with that compromise.

the pending credit be used to offset the outstanding balance
all accounts have zero balance with no financial obligations

      Good work👍

      • Did you receive a similar reply, though? Its a matter of time. They have to do this for everyone who's impacted! I am waiting for an update from them.

        • No update from Circles - I checked.

That's why I wrote "A first step is for Circles to communicate that commitment to all affected!!"

I'd say they have finally found a solution their bosses & system can work with.
Expect to be informed this week, otherwise complain as the billing date approaches.

We need certainty that this Circles error is dealt with & there is nothing owing at the end of this month!

Everyone should turn off Auto Payments in the App, so they aren't billed.
It is much easier for Circles to wipe an existing incorrect "debt", than refund an incorrectly billed overcharge. That could take ages!

      • I don't think all accounts included us. @TomGum has 5 accounts

        • +1

As @the INFIDEL mentioned, Time will tell. And that is why I am going to follow up regularly, until I get a favorable response. Not settling for anything less than a waiver of the amount as seen in the App. They oughta have a way to do that. Their "billing department" is aware of the issue as claimed by them. They should also be working on a solution in that case. We cant be left in the lurch like this. And yes, I am going to the TIO.

        • +1

Yes, that communication "all accounts" was specifically for the multiple accounts held by TomGum.

TomGum was about the first to complain to Circles, probably first to raise the problem with the TIO, & having multiple accounts - is likely the most affected customer.
So first to be notified of a solution.

Circles always asked, in replies to my complaints, to give them time to find a solution.
Seems a simple workable solution has been found, as I expected👍

I was only angry they stuffed us around by breaching their T&C. I never expected to pay once Circles admitted they stuffed up.

Would expect that solution will be available to all affected. Finding a solution & not applying it to all affected by Circles error, would be unconscionable.
If not - complain first to Circles!!

  • +2

Ok, I went back into my app under bills and can see both my bills (Oct/Nov) down the bottom are zero. So finally I can rest up. Man what a journey!!

    • Whoaaa! Thanks mate. Now waiting for my update!

Your update is for all 5 accounts of yours?

    • Will be interested to see if Circles does the right thing by rolling that solution out for all of us!
No update for me - still $38 unpaid.

      • Scroll down the bottom it should say paid for Nov.

        • That's what I checked. You have received preferential treatment! I've only threatened to take the complaint to the TIO😉

          Still shows
          Oct-Nov $38 - Pay Now (in Red)

          • @INFIDEL: Same here. I have followed up with them on email clearly mentioning this has to be waived off.

      • Still unpaid for me as well. I have sent a follow up email. We expect a similar resolution. It should update to 'Paid' for the current outstanding invoice. Its a matter of time. I have told them if not done, I will be escalating this to the TIO.

Waiting for the next update from them.

        • Same here. Still showing unpaid and "Pay now" message. Have told them I will go to TIO if they don't fix it to show Zero.

          • @bajirao: Yes, I will keep following up now, until they update it to $0. It is very much possible. If it can be done for @TomGum, so cant it be done for all. I find their Customer Support very lame. It been a good 5 working days now and still it has not been resolved to satisfaction.

  • Email from David @Circles

My sincerest apologies for the inconvenience. We understand that we have missed adding 1x more waiver in your bill.
We are correcting it in the next month's invoice and you don't have to pay the bill for this month yet.
We will not attempt to collect payments from your card.
November and December dues will be combined in the next invoice and the remaining amount after 2x waivers have been applied is the only payable dues.

Ran it through Google Translate & still unsure what Circles means by that.

But seems they want us to stick around until end of December to receive the 2 bill waivers, paying for another month @$38!

    What a wonderful offer! (Sarcasm)
Nothing has changed, just said in different words!

    A summary of my reply:
A business that can't communicate clearly with its customers & resolve any problems like this quickly to the customer's satisfaction - shouldn't be in business!

    • What do you plan to do then?

      • Watch Circles chase their tail around in Circles! 🐕

Seems that's all they want to do, just changing the wording of their "resolution", hoping we buy it (literally - costing us $38 more) & waste time achieving nothing.

    • +1

That's the same resolution as https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/9591068/redir
No payment this month but next month's invoice for December advance payment will be $38. It's the same as their original response. They are assuming that we will continue with the service next month.

      • They should agree for a complete additional total $76 Waiver in December invoice if they want us to stick around till December end! Total Minimum Cost of this offer should be $1. And not $1+$38.

Really disappointed with you Circles, I'm lodging a complaint with the TIO now.

      • +1

Yes, just different wording 2 days later.

When Circles couldn't understand & abide by their own T&C, they try to avoid their responsibility to us by asking us to pay more to make up for their error.

        What a shonky business!

      • +1

        I'd missed that comment.
This issue is just too boring for me.
So I've stopped reading all the comments.

Am simply not paying Circles overcharge & am leaving. IT'S CIRCLES PROBLEM, not mine. Problem solved.

Circles stuffed up, they have admitted it, so move on Circles.

Their next step is to fix the current problem - a $38 overcharge in this month's bill (not by fixing next month's bill).

Instead they want us to change to suit them!!

Applying a credit to wipe any outstanding payment due in this month would seem the easiest & most definite solution. And Circles have shown they can do that.

Instead they feed us words & promises…

It's like staying in an abusive relationship, believing they will change, as they say they will (but never do!)…

        Bye Circles😠

        • How lame of them not to check the Termination Date before responding in such a way. I have raised this with the TIO, and written to Circles again informing them about the same.

  • I just re-checked all my sims only one still shows the unpaid bill at the top (despite saying paid at the bottom).
So back to David, and tell him to do whatever he did with my other 4 sims to do the same with this last one.

    • Unpaid at Top and Paid at Bottom.
Is this going to help, however? Are you sure the termination will go thru if it still says 'Unpaid' at the Top?

Looks like they are doing this only for the numbers you raised with TIO. This is a huge mess created by these guys, literally! I think its clear - they wanted to cheat us and rob us for $38. Hope the TIO is noticing.

      • This number was missed as part of my TIO. But later I updated David to include it. He also acknowledged it and said it's been fixed. But obviously not fixed like the rest. Still have over 2 weeks before termination. If by the 19th it's not fixed I'll just do a port out for that Sim.

        • Oh, sorry I misread your first comment. The other 4 show "Paid" at the top as well as the bottom?
Port Out is a nice idea. What would be the best time to port out then? Before 19th or on 19th or after 19th?

          • @djoz: Before at the top it use to say unpaid. But that part is gone now for 4 of the Sims. I'm allowing 10 days to port out just incase.

            • @TomGum: Ok, so No Top Part.
              Bottom Part mentioning two bills:
              Sep-Oct: Paid
              Oct-Nov: Paid

This is the same that I expect. Mine is with the TIO now, and intimated to CirclesLife by me as well. I want a resolution similar to yours.

For the other four that say everything is Paid, are you porting or will let it terminate at end of Nov?

              • @djoz: I won't port the other 4. They all seem to be looking healthy. They should just terminate on 30th Nov as per usual.

                • @TomGum: Thanks. Now to wait for TIO to direct Circles.Life to do the same for my number as well.

  • Any updates on anyone else's account? Any favorable replies yet from Circles?

    • None here. Cancelled service - last day 30/11. Bill is still shown as unpaid in the app. If they cause any trouble in December, they'll be referred to TIO.

      • I've got a similar resolution that they would not be collecting payment from the stored card, and have mentioned that the service will terminate as planned on 30/11.

Is there anything else to worry now? Just concerned that the bill will show 'Unpaid'.

      • In the Bills section, if you sroll down to the far bottom, you would see two bills
        Oct'2020 - Nov'2020: <what does it show here?>
        Sep'2020 - Nov'2020: $0.00 - Paid

    • +1

Seems like my outstanding bill has suddenly disappeared

      • Scroll down:
In the Bills section, if you sroll down to the far bottom, you would see two bills
        Oct'2020 - Nov'2020: <what does it show here?>
        Sep'2020 - Nov'2020: $0.00 - Paid

        • +1

          Just one bill
          Sep'2020 - Oct'2020: $0.00 - Paid

          • @jackofspade: Same here. We'll see what happens come the next bill. I don't expect any unpleasant surprises, though.

        • Confirm the bill for November has been removed from the App.

As I understand from Circles confusing email, November will be combined with December bill due around 10/12. The November bill will have a $38 discount, & December will be billed @$38.

So terminating before 1/12 will result in no bill payable.

Finally seems the mess has been fixed.

          • @INFIDEL: Yeh I just checked and my Nov bill is gone.

            • @TomGum: And I've gone too!
              Bye Circles.Life!😠

              • @INFIDEL: Unless they stuff up the terminations at the end of the month 😂😂

                • +1

@TomGum: So they'll keep us as captive customers - the Hotel California of phone companies! Now that's a conspiracy theory!😂

But since Circles ignore their own T&C - it's not wise to trust them!

                  • @INFIDEL: Do we all will still receive an "Invoice" in December?
I thought that's sent only if we have PAYG charges such as International Calls or Roaming.

                    • @djoz: We should receive an invoice even if we terminate before end of this month. There effectively has been no invoice for November, since it was removed by Circles.

So they will need to send us the November invoice.
Should show $0 owing. ($38 - $38 discount) with no billing for next month.

                    • +3

                      @djoz: FREEDOM!!
Am seeking asylum with Amaysim ($2.70 for 50GB) for December, without this level of unwarranted hassle!

Considering this was a promotion to convince us how good Circles is - it was a unmitigated disaster for us & them!
Circles.Life doesn't deserve to be in business!

                      • +2

                        @INFIDEL: I agree.
Better to stick with Kogan / Lyca / other prepaid providers and avoid these billing hassles.

Btw, did you check out this deal by Gomo? Data is not that great ~18GB, but $1…. oh this value is so tempting.

                        • +2

                          @djoz: Considered offer.
                          First 5000 only. 1500 clicks…
                          Activate by 28/02/2021

Why not for $1! Ordered & paid $1.

Set a reminder for end of December to Activate after Amaysim credit runs out.

What could possibly go wrong in a $1 Deal…hey Circles😠

                          • +1

@INFIDEL: I observed your rapid Edits on this comment. Did I just change your mind? Haha, just joking.

                            • +2

@djoz: Rapid edits are normal for me. With experience in a print background, with proof reading & edits before eventually printing. My approach is less suited to digital.

Had set a reminder for Saturday, but then realised it is a limited offer. So checked, decided, bought, updated…
For $1 it was not worth missing out.

                      • @INFIDEL: Doing the same :) Porting to Amaysim :)

                        • +2

@bajirao: At least we know where we stand with Amaysim. Unlike rule breakers Circles.

  • Has anyone had any issues with them in regards to their GIVEUSAGO promo as well?
I have 80gb left atm & should get a 20gb extra next month (so 120gb), due to a few minor issues I had with them, as stated somewhere in this post.

I MIGHT go another month to get that added data, just wish I could go on to the $28 deal somehow (6 months rate).
But will NOT stay any longer than that. Guess I'll go back to Kogan (data Hop) then.

    What a cluster F*%#.
I'm wondering how this will play out.

So basically they screwed up/customers by not applying the 2nd bill waiver?
2nd waiver in correct month? or string along users til Dec.
So what happens to the people that terminated or who wanted to do so, at end of NOV?

  • +2

LOL the bill has disappeared from app but got an email reminder that I haven't made payment!! Circles surely are going the extra mile to make sure I never ever come back to them.

    • +1

My bills are gone too and I haven't received any reminders.

  • +2

Just ported one of the numbers away from Circles.

At first it failed, then I had to call Kogan to update my account number as it didn't take LW as part of the account number. Then the porting took less than 10mins.

  • Lost signal on my SIM at sharp 16:32 AEST, much in line with the previous comments.
Confirmation email regarding Service termination received at 16:32 as well.

    • Yep got all 5 terminations emails.

    • Same here. Not only they've stolen 6 hours, they've stolen another day as well - I've activated on 02/10. Fitting end to what has been a horrible experience. Since their accounts dept pay so much attention to detail, I expect a refund.

Btw, I get almost 2x faster internet now with Amaysim. Same router, identical placement, similar time of night: Circles around 18Mbit yesterday, Amaysim 34Mbit tonight. Upload is 2 times better as well.

      • +1

Circles is a Calendar Month to Month service as pointed out by several users here. Very unusual but yeah their month always runs from 1st day to last day of each month.

Hence, even if you activated on 02/10, you would get only 02/10 - 31/10 and 01/11 - 30/11 as your "two months" if you opted to terminate at 30/11. I am not sure if all other postpaid operators work this way but I think Belong certainly doesn't work this way.

Some used this as a way to take advantage by activating on last day, i.e. 31/10 so that the prorata for first month is just "one day" (Works out to be $1.22), and so you get the next month for just $1 (for the deals advertised as $1 for the "first month").

Since this promo OZBTRYUSOUT was a "2 months" promotion, we could activate on 1st of the month and get complete two months free.

      • they've stolen another day as well…
No they haven't - you robbed yourself of a day of service by activating a day late!

        That's a loss of 1/61 of $0 = $0 in this Deal!! ($1 charged was a SIM fee.) Ask for a refund😂

(November stole a day too!! I am so angry about that!😉)

Seems you didn't understand the month-to-month service you signed up to. It starts on first of month.
        Or read the helpful comments!

Assuming you requested termination - the only date that happens is the last day of the month. That was shown when terminating, & in the confirmation email!

Was regularly getting up to 40Mbit with Circles. Was great for streaming.

Now much much slower on AMAYSIM. Even posting a comment can takes ages to send!

It depends on where you are, towers, number of people using the Telco at that time, what they are downloading, congestion etc.

        • Whatever their billing logic is, this is the last time I've dealt with them. Time wasted emailing them to complain cost me much more than $1.

          • @Miroslav: Why would you waste your time complaining when it was you who didn't understand the offer!

You chose to activate a day late.
As I said the $value of that loss was $0.

It's set out in Circles FAQ, T&C, etc.
And repeatedly discussed in comments here.

      Same shut off time.
Grabbed a drink to celebrate freedom🍾
I just send anything from Circles straight to Bin!

One good thing came out of all this is that I some how got a really cool number….

        040X999X7X

        X= the same digit.

        • Now dialling all those combinations!
Only joking, am way too lazy.

So you ported number out before the account closed?
          Noice!

I only used Circles for data, so didn't notice the number.

          • @INFIDEL: Same… but when I went to cancel this I was like hang on a min…. Then I decided to port it way.

            • @TomGum: Wise!
Had to look up invoice email to find number - not interesting like yours.

Now the challenge is to keep your number.

I've had mine for over 10 years. Ported to free Amaysim SIM in April - account expires mid next year even though it has no credit… And so on. Used for incoming calls in dual SIM phone.

I travel with cards with my number, printed almost free from VistaPrint long ago. Can't afford new cards!

              • @INFIDEL: For amaysim, the best way to extend the validity by a full one year is to get someone (or yourself) to sign up a new amaysim service using your referral link. On successful referral, you get $10, and the validity extends by a straight 365 days – at no cost to the referrer. I'm sure you guys must be already doing this. But its the best way to retain your number currently.

Any idea what happens with the Optus takeover of amaysim? I have credit in my amaysim number which I am currently not using. Will that stay as is?

                • @djoz: Never thought of using a Referral to extend service - adding $10cr to use as pay as you go. Good idea👍

Downside - the other person / yourself would have to PAY for the service!! Has been mentioned referrals don't work with free codes.

But cashback Deals may work with self referral, if no code needed. Depends if referral stuffs up cashback requirements.

There are so many free / cheap SIM Deals, I never bothered.

In the days where we paid lots for little in SIM Deals, there were so many posts of how to get the most from offers.

I even wrote most of the Telstra Starter Pack Guide wiki in 2014-15.
We used to buy those $30 packs for as little as $1, selling off our $30 credit in an app for $16.50 & using the included 3GB! Heady days!

                  • @INFIDEL: Yes, referral and cashback may not go hand in hand - many times cashback is denied if you purchased the service via amaysim's referral link, but using amaysim's own offers such as Free 1GB SIM Card Delivered @ amaysim may get you the credit on your referrer account.

                    • @djoz: Got a few of those!
But according to a "reputable" source - referral may not be available.
Almost 1/3 of comments were from me & seems I was the only one to discuss referrals…

  • +1

FYI, I did get both referral credit and cashback from Cashrewards in a couple of latest Amaysim deals.

    • Good to know. Much better dealing with Amaysim!!

  • I was going to order the 50GB Amaysim plan but sadly cashback has ended

    • Today's offering… $3.90 Kogan 40GB via Kogan app
Picked up & using the Amaysim.
$1 18GB Gomo for next month.

      • Yeh I grabbed about another 5.

        • You do like buying in bulk😉
Kogan seems to have a long expiry date.

          • @INFIDEL: I’ll buy some more, but the fact is I use them for my primary internet for home. Before I use to pay less than $10 per month when catch connect had their offer, now I rely on monthly deals and keep Kogan sims as back up in case there’s no promotions running.

Not to mention I have Launtel NBN paused for days when I need to download a lot of stuff.

            • @TomGum: Also use as primary internet. But am frugal. Years ago I used only 3GB per month. Now barely use 20-40GB. So 1 x 100GB was more than enough.

      • Currently on this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/583465
Will grab a few Kogan vouchers for future use.

        • How is your billing experience with Nu sim plan? Do you really get a month of 50gb for free, or is there pro-rata shit like Circles?

          • @TomGum: No issue with billing. You need to activate within 7 days from shipping. Once activated, you get 50GB but strangely the monthly plan starts on the next day and your data allowance resets to 50GB and you get an invoice for $0. So it's free as long as you cancel before the next renewal.

        • Didn't know about that - thanks.
