No OZBargainer worth their salt pays any interest on credit cards….. :P

  • +2

    Thanks for the info, switched.

  • +5

LOL, When I signed up I didn't even know there was a monthly option. $59 annually which I have saved multiple times over. Done.

  • +5

It's been this price for almost 2 years since launch. Around Dec last year Amex did a cashback promo which made it cheaper.

  • +2

Thanks OP I just changed my Prime to an annual payment.

  • +5

    Regular Price

  • +6

Not a bargain and misleading… Why all the upvotes?

  • +5

    Everyday price.

  • +1

Absolutely just for the free Prime shipping on half the US items I buy, I do watch Prime Video sometimes too.

I generally buy from Amazon quite a bit, shipping is generally super fast.

I pay monthly, I really should pay annually.

  • +5

Standard annual price, what's the deal?

  • +5

    Standard pricing…

  • +5

Since RRP doesn’t go to forums anymore here’s the neg

  • +5

Initial read as 30% off $59pa. Bugger.

Disclaimer: I'm negging the deal not negging OP.

  • +2

Today I learned. Thanks, OP, for taking the time to share this.

Edit: DONE "Plan has been changed successfully You will now be charged $59.00 for a year of Prime"

  • +5

RRP and blindingly obvious from even a cursory glance at Amazon's pricing structure.

Amazing people will pay more for something simply because they didn't check.

  • +5

LOL you guys conversation is funny. Yea it has been always been $59

  • +6

    No Deal. Normal Price.

  • +3

Its always been $59 since Pre-COVID age

  • +4

Not a deal unless there's further 30% discount on the current annual fee

  • +2

thanks OP. despite the haters, I didn't know annual payment was an option. I think my free trial was automatically converted to monthly - now i will change to annual!

    THANKS AGAIN!!!!!

    • +1

You should have cancelled and start a new account and in 1 year Amazon will send you a $10 voucher :)

  • +5

Why is this a deal? $59 is the normal price I thought.

  • +1

Amazon, Ebay and Costco membership… How many I need and how much I save a year? I need only OZB membership and it is FREE!!!!

  • +4

    Normal price..

  • +3

This is how corporations survive. People willingly handing over money that they don't need to.

  • Thanks op

  • +7

I'm off to create posts for savings you get if you pay your insurance and car rego annually.

    • +4

Will probably make the front page

    • -2

You should! People who neg these sorts of deals always say this but never do.

  • +5

I need to post that TPG has no setup fee if you enter their 24 months contract.

  • +3

Thanks OP - this was news to me. I guess the neggers would be happier if I was paying Amazon more.

    • +4

Isn't that just the truth. They're also just pile diving and kicking when OP is down.

If they keep it up. Others like us will be left without a 20 buck saving!

Any pitchforks available for my new savings? I need to blend in!

      • +1

These people think they're champions of the OzBargain community and yet are clearly not familiar with the Voting Guidelines.

        • +3

Voting guideline should only apply to "deals". This isn't a deal.

          • @keejoonc: What are you talking about? Everything posted on the deals page is subject to the Voting Guidelines, regardless of whether everyone thinks it's a good deal.

            • +8

@Ordinance: Oh please, do I have to spell it out? No wonder you were paying monthly not knowing you pay less on the annual plan!

As a lot of people are saying, this is the normal price and should never have been posted as a deal and therefore it never should have been subject to the voting guidelines.

        • +4

not familiar with the Voting Guidelines.

Or simply don't agree. Guidelines are not rules.
The moderators failed to remove a clearly inappropriate post, and now it is too late. No big deal.
So now members are voting in the only way possible.

It is entertaining, if nothing else. And I'm surprised there seem to be a number of people unaware of annual pricing.

          • +1

@bargaino: If you disagree with OzBargain's policies and moderators… why are you still here?

            • @Ordinance: Do you agree with all Australian gov't policy?

You sound like a member of the "Love Australia or Leave" party.
When you share the logic of the far-right anti-immigration party, maybe it is time to reflect.

              • @bargaino:

Do you agree with all Australian gov't policy?

No. But I still follow those policies - even those I personally disagree with. I'm also not particularly free to move to a different country or start my own. I'm happy to explain other differences between countries and bargain forums if you're interested.

                • +1

@Ordinance: When someone makes an analogy, listing the differences is a bit pointless.

                  • @bargaino: Given that the purpose of an argument by analogy is to draw similarities, the differences are actually quite critical to the strength of the argument. If they weren't, the following statements would be considered a strong argument:

Planets in a solar system orbit a star.
Electrons in an atom orbit a nucleus, and electrons jump instantly from orbit to orbit.
Therefore, planets in a solar system jump instantly from orbit to orbit.

                    • @Ordinance: An analogy is not intended as proof, merely as illustation.
In this case, the relevant thing in common is that we have two false dichotomies.

By the way, electrons do not "orbit" the nucleus - that is a very outdated, and unhelpful, analogy. In the close confines of the atom they act purely as waves. We talk about "shells" rather than orbits.

                      • @bargaino:

An analogy is not intended as proof, merely as illustation.

                        An illustration of what?

In this case, the relevant thing in common is that we have two false dichotomies.

How was my original question (the one you didn't answer) a dichotomy? I didn't say you should leave, I asked you to explain why you remain despite disagreeing with some fundamental features of this site.

                        By the way…

I bet you're fun at parties.

        • +1

@ 4 June 1989 (love your moniker :) thumbs up!!!)

Agree 100%… but we should never accuse these 'neggers' of being 'pedants', then we would be just feeding the beast :p)

  • +3

Thanks mate, reminded me to change it

  • +4

    I paid $59 for a year Prime membership that's $5 a month with Amex offer of 40% discount…

  • +10

Surprised this "deal" made it to the front page…

  • +9

Same as it ever was …

  • +8

    OzRegularPrice

  • +3

Thanks for the reminder OP to change my membership. I had it month-to-month originally as I thought I wouldn't order many packages.

With covid and the new world order. I'm having an Amazon package delivered ever other day.

Forgot to change to annual to save some $$$.

Ignore the downvoters. You've been a real help.

  • +10

    RIP. It's RRP.

  • +11

If deal is bargain than almost every Costco value pack item is a bargain too and they got big inventory

  • +6

Not a deal this is regular price

  • +10

Now I have to comment again as my negative got revoked.

I do not think this is a deal due to it being the normal price.

    • +4

Lol yeah the mods here are funny sometime.

Been paying the same price and I sees no bargain here (hence the completely good reason neg). Love my Amazon though. I ordered more from Amazon than ebay nowaday.

Ps: OP is still epic fail.

    • +4

I am with you brother. long live the revolution ✊✊✊✊✊

  • +4

OP, are you just came back from the Mars??

  • +4

    wth

  • +4

Can someone be considered a true OzBargainer if they didn't know they could pay for the full year at a discount?
Disney + is also cheaper for the year. Optus Sport just released an annual price for this year too…

    • +2

You should post both deals as it seems like RRP is new bargain.😉

  • +8

    Standard annual price, the 30% off is based on the monthly price (12 X 7.99 = 84) .7x84= 59…

    No deal here.

  • +15

Are we saying ignorance = deal?

  • +4

Seriously I think all that upvoted this need some serious help in trying to find a bargain .
I'll start a new biz to fulfil the need called Bargain Kindergarten .

I'd start with a important lesson use discount giftcards on all purchases that you can : https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/discounted_egift_cards

Kicks ass of getting 1.5% pa in the bank and is an instant discount , not waiting 3 mths for tracking ( if tracks correctly ) :)

    • +1

This post was actually more helpful than OP's post

    • I disgree 100%… but then we should never accuse these 'neggers' of being 'pedants', then we would be just feeding the beast :p)

P.S. I have been giving every poster a + vote if the original post has helped them… Although I knew of the pricing structure, I felt this was an important public service announcement by the OP. These members of OzB that try so hard to behave like they are the Masters of the Universe, they are not… just Legends in their Own Lunchbox ;)

Go on… neg me because I am being a 'glass half full' sort of person… you know who you are! ;)

  • +5

    Ozcensorship?
Got my first ever neg vote revoked, along with at least 15 other people.
This is not a deal, it is usual price, is that a better reason?

  • +11

If this is a deal then:
paying car insurance, gym membership, country club fees, Tinder subscriptions etc upfront for 12 month to get a discount over paying monthly are also a bargain…
OzBargain would be flooded if we set this as a precedent. So for me this is not a deal as it’s been the standard price.

  • I bought something via amazon.com yesterday and sent to a freight forwarding (US address).

It gave me a 30 day free prime trial, but I guess for Amazon.com.

No idea how that works for here.

Will this work for video streaming? And for Aussie Amazon purchases?

    Cheers

    • +1

No it doesn't work here, Amazon AU and Amazon US/other countries prime is seperate.

      • So the free prime trial will only be useful for free postage to the freight forwarding company?

  • +7

its always been 59 whats the deal?
gosh the deals are getting so weak its embarrassing
thats why if you got no deal, dont post at all! you will trick the upvoters to FOMO and they go buy amazon prime thinking they got a bargain, (full disclosure i thing amazon prime is good if you buy from amazon alot)

  • +3

This was always there as an option….

  • +3

Has always been this price lol, not exactly a deal. You could argue bulk buying stuff is a deal with the logic of this post.

  • +1

LOL nothing brings out the comment brigade like OzBargainers arguing over whether something is a deal or not. Don't ever change, friends. This is the best.

    • +5

What do you expect? In order to neg you have to post a comment. People who negging are just sharing the fact that it’s a normal price.

  • +3

    Normal price

  • +3

This is the usual price. No bargain.

  • +6

So people not checking annual costs being cheaper is now a deal? Come on, if you don't check the annual cost of a service or any bulk price that's your fault. This isn't a deal, this is a common sense alert.

  • +3

Cheers OP wasn't this price when i first signed up, i opted for monthly (i haven't been back to check the annual fee as i assumed their annual fee didn't change) i have now changed to annual so saved me some cash. My fault for not checking annual fees but appreciate your post as made me think to check and change

    • +7

It's been $59/year since is launched in Australia, you can even google articles from when it first launched and them saying this price, maybe you're confusing it with Prime US but AU Prime has always been this price.

      • +2

Yep possibly confusing with US, cheers for bringing it to my attention….and plus doesn't matter to me whether people think is a deal or not as bottom line is it saved me cash so i am happy about that

  • Thanks I didnt know about this. :)

  • +4

This is not a “deal” but a regular pricing structure by Amazon since launch in Australia.

Like many clubs, gyms, insurance companies & so on Amazon offer a discount for yearly over monthly membership & this is not a “new” option either.

  • +6

Prime is great value compared to alternatives, both monthly and even more so yearly.

Compare it to Club Catch: similar price, free shipping only over $45, no Video and Music included.

Compare it to Netflix: more original content, yes, but lots less good old shows, and a lot more expensive. And only Video, no free shipping.

But this isn't a bargain. It's the same it's been since day 1.

I fear sometime soon Prime prices will rise significantly, as they have in other countries.

    • +4

Aww mate, I didn't even know about Club Catch! Someone needs to post that as a bargain right now and I will upvote it!!! (I'm joking…)

Compare it to Netflix: more original content, yes, but lots less good old shows, and a lot more expensive. And only Video, no free shipping.

Totally agree with you. I did the math yesterday as I wanted to sign up for Zwift (indoor cycling) but needed to work out how much I was spending on subscriptions (Netflix 4K, YouTube Premium Family, Amazon Prime). It made me reflect on how cheap the Amazon Prime annual subscription is, when compared to Netflix and music subscriptions like YouTube and Spotify that offer less (Amazon Prime includes Prime Video and Prime Music, but also Twitch and Kindle, and the free shipping of course).

  • I ordered an item from Amazon US, aka massage gun.

It took a week to ship out, however it shipped Saturday last week, and it's already in Melbourne and will arrive Friday.

I've had items ship within 2 days, this did take sometime to ship out however it's arriving super quick.

  • +7

What a waste of my time, commenting here so I can give a neg.

Seriously can someone post a deal where you can save purchasing Woolworths branded milk, as opposed to Paul's branded one ?

    • +4

What you can do that???? thanks I'll switch, I've been paying for Paul's for 5 years

  • +3

    Not a deal, regular price

  • +3

    Standard price. Nothing new here

  • +1

Amazon prices aren't as good as some other places, and this membership? Don't know why people even bother signing up and on RRP no less!

    • +3

For the items I buy I found the best prices at Amazon. A couple of recent examples, please point out where I could have gotten them cheaper delivered:
      Crucial BX500 240GB $37.87
Patriot Signature Series 16GB SODIMM $79

Add to that Prime Video, plenty of old stuff I never watched before: 24, X-Files, Dr Who. Allows me to get Netflix for a month a couple of times a year when new seasons of good shows drop and otherwise save the expense.

      • +2

I'm not into buying IT parts nor building my own PC so I have no idea where to get these parts sorry but for the majority of items they're generally cheaper on Aliexpress and other places. I don't think they do computer parts so you prob can't get those over there. I'm not into stream videos either but if it works for you great. I use Amazon the way I use Ebay, for general buys, and in those areas Amazon is overpriced and hardly a bargain.

  • +1

good to know and now switched to annual.

I use Amazon Prime far more frequently than eBay nowadays.

  • +3

  • -7

Geez, it's like every second Ozbargainer has to post "regular price", "RRP", "standard price", ad infinitum. Got that after the very first comment. Message received loud and clear.
