      • Android TV has some strange limitations that prevent VPNs from working properly under some circumstances. It's a really annoying issue

      • +1

It's more so on the products available, not just streaming. There's way more stuff in the US, and way more bargains. They are a bigger market of course, and there's always bargains in other stores too like Target and Walmart.

Anyway, Amazon is evil, they pay hardly anything in taxes/get crazy tax breaks and got some sick incentives to set up their 2nd HQ in the US. They are pretty much responsible for lots of jobs losses in the US, with thousands of retailers shutting their doors, lots of Kmarts and Sears stores for example. They pay their warehouse employees peanuts, but so do lots of other companies in the US, which is why everyone is broke, except for the rich. There really is no middle class.

    • Welcome to 'straya and if you think the lack of variety is bad wait until you discover the 'straya tax.

    • Agreed. It's not as good here and I last time I was in US of A using it I found it not as good as years before. The Amazon shopping experience is no where near what it once was. I remember the days when you looked for an item and nearly the first thing that came up was what you wanted, now you have to scroll through sponsored listings and cheap knock offs to find to good stuff.

    • @takuarc

I agree and I have found the same thing. I still have my Amazon US Prime account plus the Oz account for that reason.

Now that they are beginning to offer Amazon UK inventory in addition to Amazon US in their Global store, it it marginally getting betting.

Over time though, Amazon AU will dominate as their inventory grows. Their operation here in Australia is still a major loss leader while they are growing their market share. In time the Prime membership subscription cost will grow accordingly.

  • +10

    Not a deal.

$59 is standard price for Amazon Prime annual membership. Has been for years

    • +7

Alternatively you could always just pay nothing by registering a new account each month. (or every 2nd month if taking advantage of this deal)

      • +11

I don't know why anyone would neg this.

It's what I've been doing when I want something delivered that's less than the free delivery purchase threshold.

It even allows you to use the same name, card, address, and email using the Gmail "+1234" technique, so I reason that they actually don't care enough to close that loophole and are happy that I'm buying from them. Good old Bezos. A fine chap. I'm sure all agree.

        • thanks for the Protip boys, and the alias trick

        • +2

          Hi

Could you please elaborate on using the Gmail +1234 technique. I haven't come across this before.

          • +4

@Toph Beifong: If you signup with

            [email protected]
            Or
            [email protected]

Whatever website you signup to will consider that 2 separate email addresses.

But Gmail will put all of those emails in the [email protected] inbox.

You can use anything you like after the plus, eg

            +1
            +2
            +Amazonsept2020
            +Amazonoct2020

            Anything you like.

The plus must come at the end of "yourname"

            • +1

@ozbjunkie: I just tried this with a few different '+combinations' but it seems to recognise me and website updates & doesn't offer the free prime trial. :'(

Any idea what Im doing wrong. I'm signing up on my phone. Thanks for any tips.

              • @Esstee: Try a different browser or delete cookies etc? Or as it's a phone they probably can tell, try on a PC ?

              • @Esstee: Weird. I can't remember when I did it. I use a lot of ad blockers so try in cognito mode. Or try a different browser. Or, as above, clear cache and cookies. If it's on your phone you might be signed in on the app already? Just a guess. No idea exactly what it happening sorry.

Maybe there should be a "PSA" tag, and logged in members can choose to not see the PSA tagged posts. But for the rest of us who it is a deal for because it could save us money, we'll still see them. The grand wizards of OZB who already know all these long running deals shouldn't have to go through the effort of just ignoring deals that don't apply to you.

      • It's already possible to block posts like this if you're a paid up member of OzBargain Premium or Premium Ultra.

  • +1

    it's the normal price

  • +2

Always been this price as far as i can remember for yearly.

  • +7

Has always been this price. Last year some of us got AMEX offer of 40% cashback - now that was a deal for those who had eligible cards. This is No deal.

    • +3

Agree, took advantage of AMEX offer last year. Also I’m on yearly plan for last two years and I think I have seen yearly price advertising on amazon front page couple of times. So don’t think this is new news or a deal.

      • +1

Just checked what comes up if you google amazon prime membership cost and the first thing that comes up on search window provide details on yearly membership for $59 and monthly for $6.99 in bold. I think there is fair amount of advertisements from amazon regarding their membership plans for couple of years now. However, I do understand creating awareness among oz community is always helpful and welcome as it seems lot of people were not across this plan but I believe this should be added into forum rather than a deal itself.

  • +3

    This is the standard price…

  • +3

This is discount for a yearly membership vs monthly just like most other subscription based services.

  • +1

The price is there, no more no less

    • +1

Does, in its pure and circling thoughts, express

(sorry your comment sounded like the start of a poem)

  • +3

    Standard price.

  • Amazon US gets unlimited photos storage with their prime.

    Unfortunately we dont.

    • +2

Using it to train AI? Pretty sure that's why they made Google photos unlimited (not original file size) storage.

  • +2

You don't call everyday price a bargain.

    • +1

You don't call everyday price a bargain.

Some do. This, taken from https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/565390

"Mod 13/9 (copy paste of the report reply): For those reporting that RRP should be in the forum or similar, there is no such guideline. As always the community will decide if it's a good deal or not via the voting system and/or comments. In general, a deal can be good value or of interest without being discounted as such, whilst a deal can be discounted but still be of little interest or poor value. In any case it's up to members to decide. In relation to potential issues about the deal details, should the deal not go ahead as posted, or another issue that breaches guidelines, it will be removed at that time. Please use TWAM for other issues and keep comments respectful. Thanks"

  • +4

    No Deal. Normal Price.

  • +5

Can I post a deal for Discord Nitro being cheaper if you take a 12 month commitment then?
    $4.99/$49 or $9.99/$99

You're getting a saving for locking into a contract.

    • Does discord only think there is 10 months in a year?

    • +2

      Bargain! - {ethusiastically exclaimed with an Aussie inflextion}

  • +15

There is no harm in the OP letting people know of a cheaper option that is not entirely obvious. Clearly some ozbargain members got something out of it so there is no need for negging this.

    • +10

There is. If everyone started posting the regular price of things this site would be useless.

Did you know that if you buy 3L of milk it's cheaper than buying 1L of milk? Bargain!

      • +4

Some members have become enlightened to this option as it is hidden away and not clearly obvious. Although I will not plus this I will not neg it based on your argument. After all do you need to click on 'See other plans' link to see that there is a 3Ltr option for milk?

      • +1

Was actually cheaper for us to buy 3x 1L milks nearly all last year (5c/L). Then they finally upped the 1L price 🙄

    • @Karijini

I agree. Amazon AU does not publish on it's home page the details of the Prime Membership. You have to go fishing for it at the moment and I am sure there are many original members who signed up for the cheaper monthly subscription and either forgot about the cheaper annual subscription or missed the invitation when the trial period was completed…

I am sticking with the OP

  • +10

If this is a bargain, any annual insurance payment plan would be a bargain to the monthly plan.

  • +3

    Multipass

  • +11

Gotta say from my experience. Amazon Prime at full price of $59 is still better value than eBay Plus at $1

    • Agreed

    • -2

Depends if you buy stuff from Amazon or eBay.

eBay Plus has saved me at least $300 so far this year via discount codes, so it's easily worth the $50 annual fee. But I buy from eBay all the time - at least 2 or 3 items per month.

As for Prime - well, I have paid for a single month on the rare occasion that something was actually cheaper than eBay, and watched a couple shows while membership was live - but I'm yet to find enough value to pay an annual membership.

eBay's search functions are miles better than Amazon, and actually show relevant products with actual pricing. You can then filter by distance, condition etc.

By contrast, Amazon shows you whatever they've been paid to promote along with search results, and because of this, half the results are irrelevant to you - and you have to actually look for relevant results, and often you need to enter that listing to find an actual price, and check to see if they're able to ship to you. I have no idea how people tolerate such trash.

      • I spend a small fortune per year on ebay as I also resell on ebay as my primary income. Only very rarely do the bargains I seek require ebay Plus as the prices are generally overinflated and include useless features I care little about such as express post & free returns. I find that despite spending only a fraction of this amount on Amazon I am easily able to justify the $59 pa by the savings I make without the confusing plethora of coupons and sorting through relevant listings found on ebay. They each serve a purpose and I make both subscription pay themselves back but for me the annual subscription on Amazon is far better value for money.

ebay also sorts listings by sponsored sellers if you use the default Best Match. ebay does however offer far more opportunities to find second hand bargains. This is were it truly shines and does not require ebay plus to take advantage.

        • Always interesting to hear another perspective.

I always use Amazon to price-check eBay listings, and I can count the number of times the Amazon price has been lower on the fingers of one foot. And it's a painful experience because of the terrible search functions.

I agree that eBay promotes items in the default search, but refining the search is super easy and I'm almost always prioritizing used items, or lowest price, or closest seller, depending on the item I'm looking for.

And then there's the promotions that eBay runs - the most advertised deals (like the latest round of huge discounts on Airpods etc) are almost never actually available unless you camp the site at exactly the right moment, but I still found items I was actually wanting to buy at very significant discounts using eBay Plus exclusive codes. So the $50 annual fee is a no-brainer to me.

Perhaps I need somebody to show me how to use the Amazon site more effectively - it's so rare that I actually find a genuinely serious discount on useful items (rather than cheap Chinese knick-knacks) that I'm doubtful.

  • Hmmm I’m on to my 7th or 8th trial..

  • +5

I just bought 5 kilos of potatoes - and it was cheaper per kilo than buying 1 WHAT A BARGAIN!

  • +3

Been like this since the start.

  • DOH!

  • +2

    I don't feel your deal

  • +4

OK so now 2 year old rrp prices are a deal..

  • Thanks, i didn't know

  • +5

Thanks for posting and ignore the negativity. You saved me $20 a year.

    • +1

      Same.

  • +6

    OP Where is the bargain?

I would suggest you wait for a while as Amex would run deal on getting 30-50% of your subscription fee, normally happens near the end of year.

    • Yep this is what I am hoping for. Although last year it popped up on Amex in July

  • -8

Now let’s sit and watch the mods do absolutely nothing while another ‘bargain’ like this is posted. This site is really become trash these days. People posting RRP because they didn’t know about it and the mods keeping it as a ‘long running bargain’?! FFS.

  • +1

    WTF, everyone knows this…

    • +5

      That's not true

      • +3

What do you mean that Santa isn't real!?

      • +3

There's at least two people that didn't know: you and me. Thanks, saved me some money.

    • +1

      Wrong.

  • +6

    RRP

  • +3

I better post a deal for eBay plus, only $49!

  • +5

Feels like I'm in 2018 again!

  • +4

    I wasn’t aware I was on Oznormalprice

    • +2

You're welcome to post a better deal whenever you like. Just saying.

      • +1

When he does it better be a real bargain

  • +3

I just recently cancelled my Amazon Prime, eBay Plus, Costco Membership, Catch Club … and saved heaps 🤑

  • +5

    Regular pricing. Not a deal.

  • +5

    Normal price

  • +1

I figured this out by accident just yesterday when I was checking something else out. You gotta poke around in the settings to find it, even when you are signing up. Helpful deal.

  • +3

I know it's not a "deal" but it helped me out. Thanks.

  • +6

    RRP

  • +2

Retail price, should it be moved to forums?

  • +6

it's literally always plastered on the landing page next to M2M.

  • +6

Regular price - not a deal.

  • +6

Normal price, has been for ages.

  • +6

most subscriptions have a saving of around 2 months worth if paying annually

  • +6

Normal price as everyone has mentioned, not a deal.

  • +5

Well I've been paying 6.99 a month like a sucker for at least a year, so I'm happy with this post!

  • +1

Thanks OP, was not aware - bargain

Disney+ has a similar feature FYI

  • +1

Hey Amazon give us some discount on your Prime.
Like you did 12 months ago.

  • +1

    Pay upfront vs playing monthly

  • +6

This is what I paid every year.

  • +3

    Don't slam the poster - I didn't know it.

  • +3

This is not news to me.

  • +8

Normal price. Just because some people never looked doesn't make it a bargain.

  • +5

    Standard price. No deal here.

  • +5

    Lol Joke post :)
If you don't know this you don't deserve a Ozb Badge !

  • +4

At Maccas a value meal is cheaper than paying for everything individually.

  • +5

why is this even here? this has been available since amazon launched here

  • +2

The annual amount is full price.

It's not a discount for annual, it's a penalty for monthly.

Not negging though because it sounds like Amazon is hiding the annual option so anyone new to Amazon may not be aware.

  • This is more of a "deal" than $2 PPSR that gets posted quarterly by attention seekers.

  • +6

If you don't use your credit card to pay you can get a further 21% off since you won't be paying interest!
