        Black has no metal backplate.

      • probably very minimal difference. as I mention above, the main difference appears to be 2x 8pin for power vs 3x 8 pin. to me that's headroom for overclocking.

        • +1

So the black has no backplate, the one for 1169 does, and the ultimate is the OC version. Just trying to get my head around which one to pre-order.

  • Power Required 750W

    Woahhh

    • The 3080 uses up to 350W from most of the benchmark videos on the FE card.
These would probably go up to 375W.

      • The FE recommended the same.

        • +1

Nvidia quotes crazy high because they're in the interest of minimizing RMA. If you look at Dell prebuilt they using a 450w with 2080 even tho nvidia recommends way higher.

Also iirc with overclocking power draw is proportional to clock speed x voltage^2 so a 10% overclock can easily result in 20% extra power draw

    • Not good for the environment and bills :(
I wish they could implement 5nm technology and really optimise power consumption

      • Doubles as a room heater if thats your thing.

  • +1

So these aren't actually in stock?

    • +1

back-order. but ple confirmed they are receiving stock every week from now.

      • +2

Hey can you please tell me where they confirmed this? Trying to get an idea of how long it will actually take

        • +4

they confirmed it in their live stream on facebook. id say 2-4 weeks is a good timeframe. but on the other hand you are getting the cheapest 3080 prices available in aus!

    • preorder

  • I got the EVGA Ultra Gaming for $1199 and was able to get past processing payment (Paypal went through) and got stuck at submitting order. After 10 minutes I refreshed the tab and their cart threw an 'empty cart' error but I immediately got confirmation from PLE the order went through.

Seems the EVGA cards are the way to go given their prices, and PLE have a 2080ti MSI for $1189 (on special) so only $10 difference! Fingers crossed their 1/10/2020 delivery date is right.

    • Did you go preorder or get through in the first lot?

    • +3

EVGA is also the best add-in vendor by a mile.

      • +6

Looking at the consistency of jacked up prices from MSI/Asus/Gigabyte across a number of retailers - it also seems likely like EVGA was the only AIB that didn't jack up their prices.

My first card with EVGA - favourable start.

        • First review is in, it's "slightly" worse than the FE on the performance front, but equivalent cooling and much quieter.

          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yq7ef7sKryg

          • @Shwayne: lol it’s practically it same exact numbers.

I bought the ftw non ultra version for the extra power hoping that I can overclock it. And some slight buyers remorse I didn’t go for the ultra version in case they keep better dies for the ultra.

Shoutout to https://www.reddit.com/r/bapcsalesaustralia and the legend who posted it 90 mins back. Suprised this hasn't got negs for rrp when the even rarer fe thread did. Maybe that thread was just a salt mine for people wanting to broden the cards.

    • Man there is some absolute price gouging going on out there, that is so bad. Thank god for having custom loop and waiting for out of box WC lol

  • +2

RIP to the poor fellas who bought from center com at 1449, 1499 and 1599. its even sold out now.

    • +3

nah screw them, they were trigger happy folks. (maybe I'm just a little salty hehe)

    • +1

      There was a $1650 as well. F****ers

    • LOL Computer Alliance are selling their stock for $1595 - $1695

  • +8

The only goddam store that didnt jack their prices. Shame on everyone even PCCG saying retail. SMH.

Buut lets hope it doesnt get cancelled.

    • +2

I rekon they bumped the prices up so they can try clear their existing 2080ti which they are still selling for $1000+

    • +2

So glad i didnt get my pc parts from pccg… It’s a shame they’re doing inflated priced stating its retail. shame! shame!! shame!!!. I’ve seen they’re being promoted by hardware unboxed frequently.

    • +2

Too right mate. All the other retailers should be ashamed of themselves for scalping the prices. Props to PLE for their pricing.

  • +1

Got a backorder for the Zotac version for 1149 delivered, not too bad hope the wait isn't too long.

    • Me too man, Zotac for the win! Stoked with price.

Did you see pirates Scorptec are trying to sell it for $1379.00?

      • I did not (wasn't there when I ordered I don't think) thanks for pointing it out. Happy to give PLE my business after seeing that they are the lowest or equal priced stock out of all aus.

  • I got a text message saying

Thanks for ordering with PLE Computers! Order number is SO-XXXXX https://www.ple.com.au/Contact/Heatherton to contact us.

    No confirmation email though.

    • about 10-15 mins.

    • I got email / text and it charged my card.

No ship dates or anything like that though.

Fortunately I've dealt with PLE in the past so I'm fairly confident this will go well.

  • going to wait for all the reviews

    • +3

There are some out ~30% faster than the 2080 ti give or take

      • -2

        but onli 10gb my 1080ti ftw3 has 11gb

        • +4

10gb of GDDR6X, which is faster.

        • +3

Faster - but still 1gb less. Since this is aimed at 4k it is a bit on the low side if you're going to keep it for a few years. At this rrp price I'm still tempted but will try and play the wait game as I've got enough gpu for 1440p right now… Even though I could easily convince myself of the contrary.

Rumors pointing to both 3070ti and 3080 with 20gb vram "soon", as early as end October for the 3080 if that's important to you.

          https://www.mooreslawisdead.com/amp/nvidia-s-ultimate-play

          • @Zedster: benchmarks already shown it doesnt make a diff. so what are you waiting for?

            • @compfam: Mostly I'm waiting for stock availability and decent prices :)

More seriously, I agree it makes no difference right now, and if you're going to upgrade in one or two years it probably doesn't matter. It may if you are keeping the thing for 4-5 years though.

For me if I'm spending that amount of money I want to know that I don't have to worry about having a memory bottleneck in two years.

Anyway it all comes down to value proposition. Last gen was 800-900 bucks for 8gb vs. 1400 for 11gb. Currently it's 1300 for 10gb vs. 2500 for 24 gb. There's clearly space for something in between and I'm curious to see where the 20gb offering will sit pricing-wise (if it indeed does exist)

        • Many tests have shown that for gaming memory capacity has never been the bottle neck.

Memory allocation is different to actual memory use.

          • +1

@rainbowunicorn: It will be for 4K, and these cards were meeant to launch with 20GB, then a specced 10GB variant, but this was compromised to keep it profitable.

      • just going to see which after market cooler is the best.

if i was going to go in blind, i would say eVGA GeForce RTX3080 FTW3 Ultra 10GB GDDR6X
        RTX3080

but who knows, ima wait for hardware unbox to review all the after market cards, not in a rush to get my hands on these 30 series cards

        • +1

Hope i didnt make a mistake saving $30 on the non ultra version, thinking I can slide the slider bar on MSI afterburner myself thank you very much, unless they've kept (significantly?) better die for the ultra verions.

    • +2

GamersNexus gives best in-depth imo. Some others out there are like 3 card comparison lol

      • GN is doing a live review on the evga 3080 right now

  • +2

Got one, thanks! I originally placed an order through PCCG, now I just need to wait for the site to load so I can cancel that one lol.

    • how much did you pay through PCCG?

  • Managed to snag a FTW 3 about 20 minutes ago, praying my order doesnt get cancelled as its a great price compared to everything else.

  • +1

damn how come the EVGA pricing is so good compared to the rest?

    • +2

other companies are like ozbargains arch nemesis, named Jack

  • Nice work OP. I would love one and even an eVGA (as presently run them) but can't think of a single reason I actually need one. Damn!

  • Check the length before you buy people.

    https://www.reddit.com/r/nvidia/comments/il7vsg/psa_rtx_3080…

Evga is my 3rd pick. Just have to wait for this ass raffle tomorrow. Gahh!! Second choice is Asus tuf.

    • Some of the smallest out of the bunch 👍

    • Managed to pre-order the Asus TUF 3080 and I'm stocked!

      • Sale went through?!

        • Yeah it did, I was on all the sites for 2 hours last night and managed to checkout through PCCG! :)

    • +2

I could fit a small child in my case, I'm sure it'll be fine lol

      • Lol ok. I went itx so size is important.

  • How long will the pre-order be? Does anyone have an idea?

    • this isn't guaranteed, but some of them about a hour ago said 1/10/2020 but might just be a placeholder

  • Hopefully getting my hands on the 3090 isnt going to be this much of a shitshow. Im in for the FE lottery of course, but I havent made my mind up if i want FE or Strix.
Either way the cooler is coming off eventually and waterblock will be going on. I wonder how water blocks will work with the ram on the back of the card with the FE. Also, Im thinking I might benefit from the better power delivery on the Strix if i can keep temps down easier with the water cooled card. But holy shit that FE cooler / 12pin / short card makes it compelling. (only reason i care about the included air cooler is because eventually the card may end up in a PC without the custom loop)

    • I am in the 3090 raffle also, I would go the FE obviously above the rest, the shorter PCB looks neat, I do wonder how the blocks will go. It does look like the in/out is on the V shape of the PCB for EK, maybe it will go in on one side and out on the ram side?

      • +1

im hoping no1 will want the 3090 cuz itll be a rip off compared to the 3080 cards :)

        • The 24gb vram is super useful for video editing tho

    • Hopefully getting my hands on the 3090 isnt going to be this much of a shitshow

Many of us copped it from many people here for pointing out that it would be. Happens everytime at release though worse this time around with the lottery.

  • I grabbed the FTW3 Ultra an hour ago with the free RGB brace. Seems like a good card for the coin.

  • should probably get a new PSU as my 550w will choke under the 3080. would a 650w from corsair do?

    • 650w is fine depending on what other components you have. 700w is your best bet though

      • My current PSU is 600 watts. Will this be enough?
Current rig is utilizing 32GB RAM and an i7-6700K

The workload can be kinda heavy as I do a lot of Substance Painter and UE4 work

Edit: PCPartPicker virtual build said the estimated wattage would be around 450w

    • not might, definitely will.

    • +3

      from Steve's video (Hardware Unboxed) a system with Ryzen 9 3950x 32GB Ram W/ 3080 only pulled a total of 523w. Just a reference for you :)

      • In the same pickle… Saw the power figures most didn't go above 530 mark… Just needed some more info but looks OK for me as i have a 650w Silverstone 80+ gold… I have an itx build..was damn lucky I picked the 650w just in case loll

      • How can i check how much power my current setup uses?

    • I just upgraded my PSU. There was a decent deal at Centrecom for a 750w InWin 80+ Gold. It's top tier on the LTT PSU tier list too, which was nice

  • -2

Wait, this price isn't bad…? For RTX2080S resales that is… Thought they were going to crash the market but i could probably still sell it for $700 or so.

    • Depends how much better the 3070 is, 3080 is more towards 2080ti even though it's way cheaper at launch, so that's def lost its value… The 3070 might have the same effect on the 2080 and 2080S…

      Note: I didn't neg :)

  • +1

See people, now these prices are more like it. Managed to secure a Zotac 3080 for $1139. I actually don't care if it's 2nd or 3rd batch. If I have to wait another 4 weeks then that's all good.

What I don't understand is people buying the Asus TUFF for $1650 and announcing it on Facebook as a win? Wouldn't even be surprise if they get an email saying their card will be delayed. Is anyone going to break the news to them? XD

  • +1

Was leaning towards the ASUS TUF, but I went for the XC3 Ultra. Great price. Nice that it includes an anti-sag unit. Fingers crossed it comes at a reasonable time.

    • Forgot about the anti-sag unfortunately…saw it after, and forgot about the cashback ugh.

      • Remembered cashback, forgot about anti-sag. Sent them an e-mail about the anti-sag thing - hopefully they're kind and can add it to the order.

        • +1

Don't they all come with an anti-sag thing? Shows in the pictures doesn't it?

          • @Autonomic: You had to click on it to add it to the order as part of the checkout process.

      • feel like they went well above the 100 allocated anyways. I ordered the ftw3 a couple house later and was still able to select one. Somehow it knocked $10 off the card price also

        • Did you pay via Zip maybe?

    • Where can I find info about the anti-sag bracket? Bought the FTW Ultra

  • +5

aw the poor souls who are on a current bid of 950+ for a 2080ti on ebay…

  • +1

There's probably going to be 16GB and 20GB models coming out in the near future. These are entry level prices.

  • +2

I was all hyped for the launch but after all the website loading crap i've got a sour taste in my mouth. I think i'll just wait until there are reviews on thermals etc for each of the AIB cards before buying.

  • +1

Scorptec charges much higher than PLE. I ordered a FTW3 Ultra from PLE, hope it can arrive in 1 month.
    https://www.scorptec.com.au/geforcertx3080

    • Yeah an extra $200 is a bit how ya going…

  • -6

    Bought 2, thnx op

  • +41

I wouldn't upvote this as its basically rrp but PLE were the MVP's of the night and unlike all the other retailers didn't use the position to rip everyone off with vastly overinflated AU pricing.

Don't know about everyone else but they've jumped to the top of my list for future business, meanwhile pccg, centrecom, mwave are the harvey norman of online retail as far as I can tell.

    • +22

I have so much respect for PLE after tonight. Gonna start ordering all my tech from them now.

Purchased Zotac for 1139 from PLE, refresh Scorptec and see it is listed for $1379. F**k what a joke.

PLE should have done the honours and sold the founders edition in AUS. They are the real winners.

    • +1

Exactly what I said. I think this was exactly their intentions.
