Xbox 360 Slim 4GB Console $188 @ Harvey Norman

750

Was checking for Xbox 360 price and came across this.
I'm not sure about the stock level. But $11 cheaper than this deal http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/56942
and might try The Good Guys for price beat.

BARGAIN ! HN is SUDDENLY Competitive !? wtf ? lol

    • +1

its Gerry putting on the Santa suit

      • Jokes aside, rumor has it this year that Gerry has canned Santa for Christmas… :)

  • I missed out on the "World Cup" pack for $199 so I'm getting this!
    Thanks nicksnoobie!

  • What's the deal with using external HDD's with this model? Do you have to use a genuine HDD or can it be any old HDD?

    • -1

I don't own Xbox 360 but I think you can put any HDD in, if it doesn't fit just buy the shell from ebay. I think thats how it works.

    • no, you must either get a legit 360 drive, or hack the firmware of a Western Digital HDD

      • Some people might not realise so I'll point it out just in case.
The "legit Xbox 360 HDD" doesn't have to be new. You can put a 360 HDD in a 360S if, like me, your 360 got/has the RRoD and want to save some cash by getting the 360S 4GB and adding the HDD from the 360. You'll just need the shell for it.

        • the slim models do not have the shell that fats do.

        • +1

@chansthename - you remove the drive from the fat shell and buy a slim shell from ebay for a few bucks.

        • +3

          @chansthename
Hence the "You'll just need the shell for it." part. As in this.
Kinda thought that went without saying…

      • Alright, so I'll need a Western Digital HDD then.

I did a bit of searching and some sites say that the 360 can only read from Western Digital HDD's that have the same capacity as the existing xbox HDD's, ie 20/120/250/320 GB, but other sites have people claiming they have 500GB and 1TB HDD's working on their systems. Can anyone confirm which of these statements are correct?

& What capacity would you recommend I get? I'll probably want to save a couple of games to the hard drive and download some DLC for a few games. I was thinking 320GB would be adequate enough? Or should I save a few bucks and get a 250GB?

        • +1

if you JTAG (or RGH/Glitch) your xbox, then you can use any hdd, with any size. (I have a hard modded xbox running an external (3.5") 500gb hdd instead of the MS proprietary ones)
however, I am not sure how you intend to use such your xbox for, so for reason-sake, lets say official xbox business.

As far as I know, WD no longer makes 250gb drives (although i may be mistaken) so the 320 may be the way to go.
You realise that saving games to this HDD still requires the disk to be in the drive. just saying.
You probably need less space than you think, but getting a bigger drive will work out in the long run.

  • i hate harvey norman… but a deal is a deal, plus vote.

(id still be tempted to buy the JB's one, just to support the retailer that actually has competitive pricing on a regular basis)

    • Try price match with JB? I doubt they will though.

      • yeah, they wont.

but whats the bet HN doesnt have anywhere near enough stock to satisfy demand tomorrow?

they want to stop people going to JB's.

  • goood job.

  • i must be crazy not to plus this, considering its close to Wii territory :D

  • Anyone know what the cheapest price for the kinect sensor is? Preferrably with kinect sports, and kinect fitness.

      • wtf, these were like $99 a few months ago, they should really start junking it at 99 a piece

        • You mean $199 a few months ago.

        • Na, not $199, $99… I got mine for $119 (slightly above) but there were other stores doing it for $99.

        • They were occasionally on sale for $119 in the more recent months, but the RRP was $199 and most places had it for that price up until recently.

drop it like its hot drop it like its hot

  • What do you do with the Xbox, suppose you have to Buy games for it…. :\

  • wow, thats a good price.
Thank God, I sold my old xbox 60gb for $200. Old power brick is still with me and got xbox with Kinect for $250. I thought, I bought the cheapest. This is a damm good price.
Is there any game with this?

    • No, this doesn't come with any games.
It's just the console and a wireless controller.

      A nice basic kit.

      • Yes. But if you have young kids, they love the kinect thing. adventure games are have basic games and a good time pass.
As for me, I am still on Archam asylum and sometimes online multi play for COD MW4. Will buy CODMW2 which is on special for around 18 bucks from ozgameshop.

        • lol wut? I was just answering your question regarding included games…

        • lol. yes you did. I failed to reply properly. I meant to say, if this is without game, then kinect to game will be a nice buy if you have kids.

  • What's the difference between a 4gB and a 250GB? would you buy a 250gb for the storage . How many games can a 4gb fit onto it? answers please!

    • +11

      246GB

    • As Wildesy said, the difference is only 246GB. But to elaborate as I think I know what you're getting at, there are no hardware differences beyond that.
4GB will hold a few save files but as for holding games, there are very few under 4GB so don't count on many or anything decent (IMO). It will most likely be DLC that you store anyway, I'd save the 4GB for that than actual games but that's just me because of how I play/use the console.
FTR, the "answers please!" part was rather unnecessary as nearly all the questions here are being answered, also may come across as a little rude…

      • He demands an answer yet he is such an ignoramus and too lazy to find the information himself.

  • I think it should be possible to get Kmart to price match since Kmart has a price match policy (it used to have a price beat policy as far as i can remember)

refer you guys to this 320gb hard drive. http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/56764#comment-656626

Just got one in Harvery's Melb Central shop! +$30 dollars you get 3 years more warranty. First year is to Microsoft, however the last 2 years if a power plug, controller whatever breaks you can trade it in for the newest xbox model!

    • +1

In less than 3 years Xbox 720 (or whatever it's called) will be out making 3 years pointless! :)

      • +2

Only assuming you buy the new one straight away.
What if you don't? At least your current one will be protected until then…

    • +1

      Errrm…. no.

They would either repair or refund. They are not going to give you a new model X-Box.

      • Actually no, they would repair or exchange only. They can't refund.
Google Australian consumer law and you'll see what I mean.

  • My local HN at Woodville SA had these for $228. WTF.
At least their 4gb kinect bundle for $288 was a decent price.

  • Thats actually what they told me though, if any of the parts break.. they would exchange it for the latest model if it was in the Harvey Norman 2 year Period.

    • That'd because they have to by law. It's actually part of consumer law that, within a certain time period, it's the customers choice for refund, exchange or repair regardless of T&S's and anything you have signed short of a legal contract from the courts. A companies T&C's can't override Australian law.
The only catch with exchange is, if they have "old" 360 Slim stock left, they can give you one of those if they want even if they have the new "720" in stock. Basically the law states same (not equivalent) or better can only be used for exchanged unless otherwise agreed upon by both parties.

I teach this stuff and it gets very complicated from here on in…

      • +1

That makes sense.. Thanks for that!

  • says $249 on the website for me…

  • Well its not from Harveys but its from JB Hi fi but http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/55862 I picked this up and thought it was a better deal with the free rugby world cup game to boot, Still love the game by the way and if you don't like rugby then fortunately the trade value for that would still be a few good dollars in a game or gametraders store…
