  • @LiMaaa are you affiliated with Dell or something? You're not flared on the post as such, just wondering.

    • +3

Haha, No I'm not. Just really love organising awesome Deals and Dells a really great company!

      • +1

100's of thousands of dollars in sales with zero kickback or affiliation is very generous….. some may say stupid….

          • +19

@LittleTicket: I don't appreciate that. I haven't received any kickbacks and have mentioned my goal would be to get a job out of this as I lost my IT job due to covid. tbh my dog and best friend is in late stage heart failure and this is a helpful distraction for me.

              • +1

@LittleTicket: Questioning or assuming? Because I already answered the question prior to your comment above. Me expressing politely my discontentment for your assumption in no way determines my inability to handle anything. Have a great weekend.

          • +3

@LittleTicket: Who cares if LiMaaa was affiliated? These are extremely good deals

            • -3

@[Deactivated]: The same reason people put #ad on FB and instagram posts? Not denying it’s a good deal, but it’s all about transparency. Anyway, comment is redundant. See above.

Looking at the thousand six hundred plus 1 star reviews on the Dell website, I would say this is a crap laptop and avoid it.

    • +10

I'm not going to argue your opinion, but there are also 8 thousand combined 4 and 5 star reviews. Out of curiosity I read a couple of the one stars and stopped 5 in when someone said "it doesn't work with outlook" haha

oh god, I might read through them for fun…
"Did not want password to start computer also internet still running slow setup."
"I cannot figure out how to use this computer or any apps. It is difficult for old people."
"I cant download any good apps. the restrictions are heart breaking." ???

      • -4

3star reviews note poor screen brightness, slow CPU and poor battery life compared to what is claimed

  • +1

Bought one for mum, Christmas gift sorted, thank you~

  • Great deal for school kids but I will hold off till black friday.

  • Can't believe ther are no questions re ram upgrades if possible, or are most people happy with 8gb now and in future.

Also no questions about screen whether IPS or just TN panel?

    • no

    • +1

Tn panel, ram upgrade possible as mentioned by @O O below.

    • At this price probably TN

      • +2

Keep in mind that rrp is $1199 and many laptops/ultrabooks below $1000 rrp even some below $800 rrp include a FHD IPS panel.

Nice to have that as it makes laptops a better deal, but yeah, agree that below $700-$800 you can't expect that.

        • +1

          Good point.
Do you know if Dell's consumer laptop screens are matte or glossy?

          • +1

@Fobsessive: "Fobsessive" Depends on the model and range. Some yes, some no.

        • +1

That's true for Windows, though Chromebooks have had FHD IPS down to $139 effective price: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/514525

          • +1

@particle: Haha, I grabbed that one. Although getting my $100 JB coupon for me with C & C was a nightmare and took months

of back and forth emails to finnally get that sorted. Was great value even at $239 but with the bonus $100 gift

voucher/coupon ( most likely a shared Google/HP/JB rebate promotion )that was a steal and not your regular special.

            • +1

@ozhunter68: I got it too! The timing of the special was good too with demand for Chromebooks skyrocketing soon after, along with prices.

Just checked if JB still stock it out of curiosity, and they do and it's on special now, but for $329, down from $379.

The c&c experience sounded terrible tho - my online ordering experiences with JB have been bad too, tho my walk in experiences with them have been good.

  • Does it has docking?

    • +1

Not really, although usb docks exist, just no DP capabilities.

  • Sorry if this has been asked, can i add more RAM to this? is there a limit to what size can add?

  • Thanks just picked one up.

  • Can I add another ssd

  • Screen only 720p?

    • Screen is 1920x1080 Full HD

      • What's the nits value?

      • +1

Thanks, somehow I saw the "720p" in the webcam line and wrongly assumed it was the screen.
        Fantastic deal for $700!

    • Inbuilt Webcam?

      • +2

As per the specs in first post…

Integrated widescreen HD (720p) Webcam with Single Digital Microphone

        • -6

Who are you replying to? Fobsessive said 720p and I answered that they are referring to the inbuilt webcam. I know it has one as I can read. Woosh!

          • +1

@Logical: Oh haha. It really seemed like you were asking if this has an inbuilt webcam.

        • -7

Your first response to fobsessive should have said that the webcam is 720p, but you misunderstood and said that the screen is FHD…

  • +1

    bought one.. thanks OP!

    • +1

Awesome. Perhaps if you want to post your experience using it when you get it so we can get some first hand feedback, might help others interested.

    • just checked the spec again, the LAN is 10/100 only…. no Gigabit LAN sorry!

and the extra genuine charger is only $39, yeah!

i have a strong feeling that it also comes with a 2.5" SATA drive bay and connector. Let's see when i get the laptop…..

  • 2.2kg, woah too heavy for me :(

  • Good deal. Shame the HDMI output is so limited though, only thing that really bothers me here

  • Whats better? the i5-1035G1 or the i7 10510u?

    • +1

From what I can tell real world benchmarks, they're virtually the same. i7 has hyper threading if you require that.

      Others opinions…

if you plan on watching/needing to display lots of 4K content, do encoding/decoding, pick the 1035G1. The 10510U has a marginally faster CPU but gives up a lot on the GPU front.

      • cool thank you. I bought a vostro 5490 14 inch i7 10510u, 1tb ssd for $849. Ever since i bought it I have noticed alot of laptops just went down in price :(

        • +1

It's still a nice laptop. Don't compare, just enjoy it. :)

  • +1

usb 2.0 and bluetooth 4.1 in 2020? seriously?

    • +2

They keep including this stuff for compatibility, I might be wrong but BIOS drivers aren't quite up to scratch for USB3.0 yet.
Modern day motherboards still have PS/2 ports used on keyboard and mouse inputs from the late 1980s.

  • When does this end? If anyone owns this, hows the battery life/duration? Is this good for general use-emails, browsing net, YouTube, streaming Netflix, typing word documents, bit of (basic) photo and video editing, etc?

    • +1

Yes should cover all general needs except AAA games
      I ordered one anyway.
Perfect for primary student to finish remote study homework.

    • Monday midnight I believe. It's more a stock thing, coupon is good for 170 units before it expires.

      • Do Dell offer business account where you can buy now and pay invoice later?

    • Does all the stuff you've listed. Battery life is about 5 hours for web browsing and video.
What you should probably consider are:
      1. Screen, the TN has poor viewing angle.
      2. Mobility - it weighs 2.2kg which is on the heavier side.

      • I’m telling you. This laptop is old. But no one listening 🙄. Plus it has a poor screen quality. I’d suggest everyone to get something else.

  • Does it have a 2nd ram slot?

    • Yes this one does have 2nd memory slot.

  • Keeps removing from my cart, perhaps OOS?

  • +1

Looks it's a good price for a cheap laptop but the reviews I saw suggested it's just not a good laptop. Was tempted but not after seeing the reviews, if you just need a cheap laptop and don't care, might be alright especially if you buy another 8gb ram module, good size ssd

    • Agreed. Yet when I made the same comments above the haters came out and I got negged. $700 is nothing to sneeze at…..

  • Out of stock. I tried adding this into cart. But at checkout popup message occured as you hv no.item in the Cart

  • Ah gee, missed this. just have to wait for the next good deal i guess. wont be long hopefully

  • I bought it but I didn't check about the HDMI port, I need a laptop with HDMI 2.0 for 4K/60.

Is it easy to return? I never bought trough Dell website

  • Just received mine as well. For anyone looking at these comments next time, the left button on the trackpad is extremely loud and clicky. Super annoying!

  • After waiting a month, I realise that Dell cancelled my order. Bleh!
