My current voucher expires in Dec. What happens if I recharge does it add-on or will it reset from recharge date?

    • +4

      reset from recharge date

    • +1

Voucher expires at 11:59pm AEDT on 15/11/2020

      • damn my plan expires 28/11 :(

          • +4

@xdpx: yeah but it hurts the ozbargainer in me :P

            • +2

@CVonC: for me, as long as I use up all the data then im satisfied and feel like nothing is wasted~

            • +2

@CVonC: Just use up your 20 gigs of the last month by the 15th.

I'm in a worse spot than you though as mine expires 28/12.

Edit: Looks like this is NOT available to existing customers as per my comment below which is quoting the exact fine print. But it also seems to contradict the large print so I am confused.

If you are already a Kogan Mobile customer, simply login to your account and use your voucher to recharge. Each voucher can be redeemed for a LARGE 90 Day Plan without any additional charge.

              • @inherentchoice: @CvonC This particular voucher is not for Recharges. In the information on vouchers under the video 'Getting Started with Kogan Mobile', the information is generic about all vouchers and mentions Activation and Recharges must be made before voucher expiry date. However it is clearly stated this voucher offer is only for new customers (new mobile numbers for Kogan, ported in or simply new)..

            • @CVonC: "CVonC" At 11c per day you would only lose $1.43 in total at worst.

  • Time to stock up thanks OP

  • +1

If only they had this 3 weeks ago

    • Two weeks ago for me :(

      • Two DAYS ago for me! I literally just switched from Kogan to Belong (had some free credit).
        Feels bad.

  • Can I port in my current number to this SIM?

    • It looks like it, yes.

      • Although just got the voucher email and it states 'This voucher is valid for new customers only.' So now I'm not sure.

        • New to Kogan, not new to the 21st century.

        • switching to Kogan from Optus actually :D

  • Is this the first time it applies to existing customer?

    • +1

I think this is NOT valid for existing customers…

†$9.90 Offer is only available to new Kogan Mobile customers. Personal use only. Discount available on Kogan Mobile Prepaid Large 90 day plan, purchased before 11:59pm AEDT 09/10/2020 unless sold out prior or extended. Discount does not apply to subsequent recharges. Not available for commercial or resale purposes. Discount cannot be used in conjunction with any other promotional offers. Not transferable and not redeemable for cash. Not valid for current Kogan Mobile customers. Limit 1 per customer.

So new customers only, 1 per customer and does NOT apply to subsequent recharges.

This is mentioned under Plan Information & Terms.

      • Where did you get the text you attached? I cannot find the "new customers only" clause in their webpage.

        • Under "Plan Information & Terms". Click to expand fine print.

      • +5

As is always the case new customer = new account/number. In other words a new account (not new person) that is different to a current Kogan account. So a NEW phone number in other words, or a phone number that hasn't been with Kogan recently (30 days I think).

That said, I don't understand why people are prepared to SIM hop to keep their number, but won't add one step (ONCE) to avoid this hassle….

        1. Buy a 2nd phone or one phone with two SIM slots.
        2. Buy any cheap Amaysim deal.
        3. While that Amaysim plan still has credit change it over to their other plan that costs $10 per year to keep active. (If anyone signs up using your referral URL you get free credit so this might cost $0/year.) This is now your permanent/ported number for receiving calls.
        4. For outgoing calls and internet data buy any SIM deal you like. I use Kogan 40GB/30 day/$4.90 SIMs. If your contacts won't answer unknown numbers just send them an SMS first (free with the Kogan SIM) saying you're about to call. You can even block your outgoing Kogan number from displaying on their phone so they don't get agro thinking they have to enter your new phone number every month: https://exchange.telstra.com.au/how-to-block-your-number-whe…

        So:

        • $10 per year to keep the same number with Amaysim for incoming calls = $0.83 per month.
        • $4.97 per month ($4.90/30 days over 365 days) with Kogan for outgoing calls = $4.97 per month.
        • Total = $0.83 + $4.97 = $5.80 per month for a permanent number (incoming calls), (outgoing) SMS and calls, and 40GB of data. (Or $4.97/m if you refer one person per year to Amaysim which of course could be a 2nd/3rd/etc person in your own household.)

The expiry dates of new SIM deals like this one often don't align. That probably means paying a couple/few $ more per month anyway. (This deal is $3.30 per 30 days, my way is $4.90 = $1.60 more.) But after taking the above steps ONCE it's worth that extra $1.60 to remove all the hassle. All you need to do then is buy one $4.90 SIM and spend 2 minutes activating it each month, instead of chasing SIM deals only find you lose more than $1.60/m anyway when their expiry dates don't overlap.

        • "40GB/30 day/$4.90 SIMs"

Where do you find this? I see nothing on their site.

          • @pufffdragon: Sorry I missed this before. It's found here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/543472 but it gets renewed every couple of months when they update the expiry dates. When I want to find it I just type "Kogan $4.90" into the ozbargain search box. It usually shows up in the first few posts, and is usually the first one you see that isn't expired.

        • +1

Not everyone would like having to call and text from a different number which keeps changing even if incoming is permanent.

          • +1

@CVonC: There was a solution to that. I used to have it bookmarked but that HDD crashed so I lost it. It was an old thread on here discussing Kogan SIMs. I just spent an hour searching for it again but no luck. Someone signed up to some service that made their outgoing calls display on the recipient's phone as coming from his permanent/incoming number. But he was making those calls from the outgoing SIM. I think it was either really cheap or free because he wasn't actually making calls with it, he was only using it to display his incoming phone number while using his outgoing SIM. Something to do with VoIP maybe!?

            • @[Deactivated]: did it work for text?

              • @CVonC: I don't have a full recollection sorry. I looked for the thread a second time after my post about it but still couldn't find it. They were discussing using the $4.90 Kogan SIMs in the same way I mentioned above. Then one guy signed up to some kind of online service that allowed him to make calls from one SIM but display a different phone number.

  • Just grabbed one. Thank you

  • Thanks OP!

    Fantastic deal, bought 2.

  • Thanks mate

  • -4

Thanks mate. Bought one as a current customer.

    • . .

  • Perfect timing for a recharge next week! Cheers OP!

  • Can I use this in a dual SIM phone if the other SIM is already on Kogan's three month deal?

It won't be against T&Cs to have two of these active in my name?

    • Ofcourse you can!

You are getting a new SIM which means you are a new customer to them. Putting your new sim in another SIM port or any mobile does not make any difference.

      • But you have to verify ID.

        • They won't care. I have phones for my kids. So I have to do multiple ID verification. I have different e-mail addresses for each number though.

          • @tonydav: Yes, they don't care as long as you have a separate kogan account with another email address which is not hard to create.

  • +7

Just got voucher code email, it says 'This voucher is valid for new customers only.'

    • +1

      Same here.

      • . .

    • Have reported this issue to Mods. Still a great deal for new customers though.

      • Yeah, doesn't impact me personally but thought it needed to be said, just in case.

    • What is the expiry for this voucher?

  • +1

just port out telstra $2 prepaid and port back. ez. ive done many times.

    • +6

Last time they told me I had to wait 30days to be considered "new" again

      • yes i have 6sim card. just wait 30days.

    • Nope you need 30 days. I don't think that's possible.

  • +20

I am an existing customer. Bought the voucher then logged in and recharged. FAILED. The code was invalid. You better change the post’s title. Please read other’s comments before buying deal from this guy. FCheers

    • Pretty sure this is something you're meant to report to the mods so they can fix it, not neg the deal.

      • +3

It deserves it if it's that wrong

    • same :(

  • +1

Thanks got one for my daughter
This’ll pay for itself in petrol saved when I can text her to walk home

    What’s with the delay though
Expected dispatch date: 19 October 2020

    • +1

If you want it sooner you can spend $2 at United or 7eleven service stations to buy a sim card to use the code on.

      • Thanks. I might even have an old kogan sim around, wonder if I can use that

        • +1

Should be able to. I've activated SIMs that were years old.

          • @UrMumsOnlyFan: The Kogan sim cards which used to be able to activate after years on shelf, but I found out there was no longer the case, I tried a few from old staples, none of them work any more, only recent orders (< 3~6 months) were able to activate.

    • +1

If you only want to text her phone then look at Amaysim. Sign up to any cheap deal then login while you still have credit and change the plan over to the one that costs $10/year to keep active.

Or if you want her to have outgoing calls and data: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/543472. Order an extra blank SIM (so you receive 2x SIM cards). They email you an activation code. Use that code to activate SIM 1 when it arrives or when you buy it from 7 Eleven. Then buy another every month, use the next activation code to activate the blank SIM you already have (so it's active and swapped over minutes after purchase). Kogan then mails out another blank SIM ready for next month. And remember to turn off billing/cancel credit card after activating each new SIM.

      • Wow next level, thanks!

  • I'm an existing customer… Do i just port out and use something else for a month and port back in?

    • Yes, that's what I'm currently and have done over the last 2 times.

    • +1

Must be clear 30 (not 28) days in between, else code won't work. From experience and confirmed with Kogan customer service.

  • +3

POST TITLE: "…New AND Existing Customers…"

VENDOR: "….Not valid for current Kogan Mobile customers…"

  • I've got a month of Kogan 1st Membership in my cart for $10 and I can't get rid of it :(

  • Has anyone actually tried to recharge yet? The last paragraph is a copy and paste from the website and says you can recharge

    • +1

2 people on here say they have and it fails

  • Thanks, picked up one for my daughter.

  • +1

This is for new customers only.

To be fair to poster, this is only apparent with the confirmation email in the order, as it isn't started on the website or ordering process.

Based on this you should be able to get a refund as it is incorrectly listed by Kogan.

    • If you scroll down you will see small print

Voucher does not apply to subsequent recharges

  • Can you port your number from Vodafone to Kogan once you activate this? How long will it take?

    • Yes you can. Mine took around one business day

      • thanks, jumped in and bought one, bye $50 a month vodafone plan.

        • $50 a month?!? You've been getting ripped off for all these years!

          • @tyvod: bad habit.. from old day phone+plan combo, then convenience I guess, and I use data a lot.

How much is the best value for the recharge for Kogan? still need data at least 20GB.

Working from home for the time being I can use NBN at home, but when start going back to office and driving/commuting 2 hours each way, I need data.

            • @fvalemus: Tbh, I'm not too familiar with Kogan plans. I think their plans are just mediocre in value-wise?
If you use 20gb p/m, have you considered signing up with JB Telstra deal that sometimes pops up? I think those deals are better if you use data alot.

  • +1

It's always been for new customers this deal. in the few years I have been buying them not once have I seen it for existing customers

    • +1

In August I used the same deal on my existing Kogan Mobile and it worked. Not sure if that’s possible this time as I can see a few comments where it failed.

    • There was one recently where Kogan put out a deal for Vic customers only that could be used as a recharge.
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/566285

  • too good to be true if this is for existing customers.

  • so if you activate on 14/11 , you can use til Feb?

    • 3 months so will expire on 14/2 if you activate on 14/11

      • +1

It's 90 days, probably only up to 12/2.

  • Hey what’s the easiest and cheapest way to port out and back in please?

    • +1

LycaMobile are doing free delivery sim cards at the moment. Should be able to order a maximum of 3, free delivery.

    • Nornally the equivalent 90 day catch connect plan is the go. But I dont think that deal is on.

    • +1

Some members are porting to Belong for 3 months 82GB or 4 Months 23GB. Buy the $40 starter pack when they're on special for $20 & you have 12 months from the purchase date to activate.
Use option 2 in the description to get 3 months 82GB or option 1 to get 4 Months 23GB.

Then back to Kogan for another 90 days.

      • +2

Thanks! My lebara ends this month. I have 1 year Boost plan and they only need to be activated by sometimes in March in 2021.

I'll use Belong and Kogan before porting in to Boost.

    • +1

It's probably easiest to get a Telstra SIM from your local supermarket, port out but don't recharge any value on it, then port back. HOWEVER if you're with Kogan now, planning to port out and back in for this deal, then you won't qualify if you port back in within 30 days. You WILL qualify and don't need to port if you just use the new phone number on the SIM pack.

      • Oh I was planning to keep same number didn’t realise about the 30 days rule….

  • Just wasted the $4.90 from this deal 2 days ago https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/543472
    Should've waited…

    • why? this is HALF the amount of data on that deal, this deal is only 20gb per month as opposed to 40gb..

the $4.90 is still the best deal out there

      • Wait for the $0.99 deal for 30 days, coming in October/November going by the past few years' trends.

  • -1

Will Kogan ever add free international calls like Boost and Coles Mobile? Sigh..

  • +1

catch connect still cheapest, $120 for 1 year, unlim calls and text. 60gb or 120gb per year for new customers

    • Catch is Optus. Kogan is Vodafone.

    • No, sim slutting between this & Belong is cheaper.
