[Android, iOS] Prino (Price Tracking/History) Ad-Free if Installed before 17 Nov ($5.99 after) @ Google Play / Apple App Store

4650

~~ Update 25/10 ~~

Thanks for the all the upvotes, feedback and support. What a tremendous community we have here on OzBargain!
We've pushed out an update based on some of the feedback. Including a global search box, better iPad support (no landscape yet, sorry), Apple ID integration and more. Go ahead and update your app and let us know what you think.

We're always on the lookout for beta users so if you're interested in joining, send us a note to [email protected]

Happy Bargain Hunting :-)

Prino and Prino Pro are now one app. The Prino Pro experience is free if the app is installed before 17 November 2020!

Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=io.prino
iOS: https://apps.apple.com/app/id1494972797

We've built a price-tracking app that pulls in price data from a heap of online stores.

You can save products and get alerted when the prices drop.
We also chart the price history, so you can use it to discover discount cycles and ensure you're getting the best possible price.

We have an awesome community of active users, who’s feedback we take very seriously.
We're frequently adding more stores, products and prices to the app. Here are some new features we’ve just released in version 2.0:

    - 12-month price history
    - Save products without needing to sign in
    - Search and category performance improvements

Since launching, we've learned that running both Pro and Free app versions adds complexity that slows us down and dilutes our presence on the app stores. We've combined the two versions into a single app and are offering the ad-free Prino Pro experience for FREE if you download the app before November 17th.

We will then switch to a freemium model where the ad-free version is available through an in-app purchase. Anyone who downloads Prino before then, will automatically get it free for life. Cha-ching!

If you're already one of our loyal Prino Pro supporters, then please download the consolidated version and remove the old one. The old Prino Pro will no longer be supported. Really sorry if this is a pain, but we’re certain it's the right move for us and hope you can stick with us through this hiccup.

      Hey Zazer,
There's a fair bit of chat from our last ozbargain post: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/555475
That might give you a good idea of what we're all about

      • great, thanks. downloaded, will give it a go :)

        • +1

          Yayer we need pricehipster alternative😎

  • Prino is good and all for searching discounts, but this is my most favourite app for price tracking items I'm watching:

    • -3

With reviews like that, no thanks.

      • +2

Fair enough. Works well for me with amazon. Well enough that I bought it and the developer has added functionality from my feedback. I am not affiliated btw.

  • +4

I love this app! I had the Pro version and it was actually worth paying for. Grab it while it’s free!

    • Hi @chrisburnett. Thank you for your positive feedback and continued support. We really appreciate it!

    • What is the pro version?

  • +1

Good on u for developing it. Will check it out.

    • -1

First thing I see are womens clothes

    • I’m interested to hear about how you find it so far 😁

  • +10

I have OZB for that. heh

    • +1

I find it easier to use the app tbh. Ozbargain is great for in the moment but price history over 12 months is easily accessible through this.

      • Thank you @slinkster. Hope at some points you can use Prino to find deals to share on OzBargain ;).

  • +3

Looks good but no Sign In With Apple support? Isn’t that compulsory for App Store apps now?

    • We are working on that :)

    • +1

Only mandatory if you offer sign in with other services (Facebook, google etc) iirc, and only if it’s in app - they authenticate in a browser window so I think that’s unregulated

    • Sign in with Apple is now supported :)

  • +1

Will the ad-free status survive re-installation?

    • We'll try our best to handle that case but that depends on the available APIs. If you sign in then yes, it'll be ad-free cross devices as well.

      • Why don't you just make a free IAP?

        • That's definitely one solution. We'll trying our best to minimise any extra steps you have to do :).

  • +2

Kinda sounds like price hipster in an app

    • +1

is basically price hipster in an app.

      • Or does it have more retailers included?

        • +1

It has ebgames which pricehipster doesn't seem to have.

        • I guess it's different but similar.

    • PH doesn't let us sign in with facebook no mo😪

  • +1

Great job on developing the app :D.
Will amazon be included any time soon?

    • +1

I've tried every amazon tracker and only ones that really work for me and with amazon au is camels (which is only web based with email notifications) and the app I posted up above.

    • It’s in our priority list. However will take time to implement properly.

How do you find Prino so far? Easy/hard to use? Any area do you want to see improvement?

  • -1

    Prino Pro seems gone.

    • +2

In the description it says they are doing only one app now. Pro gone.

  • +1

Why do you need to manually choose Dark Mode on IOS? Can it not pick up the system value?

Ie. if I change the phone to dark mode using control centre the app should change as well

    • +1

Hi @ruddj. Thanks for reporting the issue. It's a known bug that we hope to fix in the next release. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us at [email protected] if you see any other issues.

      • +2

This is a big feature for android and iOS devices to auto switch darkmode

        • +1

This app already does on Android for me

    • This issue has been fixed in the latest version 2.1.0. Please give it a try :).

  • Android version seems to work well.
However, the IOS version doesn't seem to work (blank screen).

    • That's a bit unexpected. Could you please send us a little bit more information (iOS version, device model…) via [email protected]. We'll definitely look into that. Thank you for raising this.

  • +1

    Looks promising, thanks. Downloaded

    • Thank you for trying it out. Please reach out to us at [email protected] if you run into any issue or have any suggestion.

  • Android. Changing password issues.
Eventually changed, but when I sign in, gets Oops! message.

    • +2

Thank you for reporting the issue. It seems to be something we haven't seen before. Please reach out to us at [email protected]. We sure want to get to the bottom of the issue.

    • How do you even change your password? I can't seem to figure that out.

      • Sorry I missed your message. We haven't got that implemented within the app. However there's a workaround.

Please try sign out and sign in again. On the sign in form, there's a Forgotten password link, please press that link, enter your registered email and follow the instructions. Please let us know how that goes.

  • +2

Nice App although missing a few important stores like Amazon. Also search UX is not ideal… click search and takes me through to search vendors rather then product and then when I eventually get to product search the search results are a bit disorganised IE search for Playstation 4 and get a whole heap of things that are not too relevant and even the console has seperate listings…. should be consolidated into 1 with cheapest price on display (think trivago). Either way great work and look forward to the iterations.

    • Thank you very much for your feedback. Please rest assured that we take these valuable feedback really seriously and keep improving nonstop 👍.

      • +4

Yeah from a UI/UX point of view I had a hard time working out where to search products from. It confused me after I clicked the maginifying glass and a list of stores appeared. It made it look like it was a store search instead of a product search.

        • I'm happy to let you know that we've released Prino version 2.1.0 with this big improvement. Thanks for raising the concern.

  • +1

Oh why the hell not. I'll give it a go. Time will tell if it remains downloaded. Thanks OP :)

    • Hi @pennypincher98. Does it remain downloaded :P? Just want to ask if there is anything you don't like so we can work on improving it. By the way, newer version 2.1.0 is now available ;).

      • Hey rep, it did indeed remain downloaded but tbh it hasn't been opened since the 18th. Found there wasn't enough results (which stems from not enough stores) so while it is more convenient - especially if push notifications work - I'm still using price hipster.
What's included in the newer version? read OP

Nice to know at least that you're not just a rep who will just dump an ad on Ozb and then never log in again lol, gives me more faith in your product.

Edit: just realised this has been a thing since January it seems? Never heard of it until this post aha

        • Thanks for giving us the honest feedback. We’ll continue to add more stores as we go. Do you have any particular ones you want to add? It’ll help us to prioritise accordingly. Ta.

P/S: Push notification works btw :P

          • @prino: Honestly there's a lot of good suggestions for stores to add on this very thread, I don't know how many of them have been added since.

Also this is how I was hoping notifications work and this would undoubtedly make me use your app (over any other alternatives) if it became a reliable feature.

            • @pennypincher98: Hi @pennypincher98. I just want to let you know that we recently added support for Supercheap Auto, IKEA and Motoquipe. There are more stores to come. Regarding to notification feature, we'll design and implement that in the next couple of releases. Stay tuned!

        • +1

Haha Prino is still relatively new. We are just focusing on building an awesome product first instead of marketing so that’s why you never heard about until now ;).

  • Says app not available in your country on play store. Any idea why?

    • +1

Are you using the YouTube Premium India deal?

      • Yeah i did use indian youtube premium.

        • Prino is only available to download in Australia. Did you change any settings to use the Indian YouTube premium?

  • app feels sluggish on Android. Samsung s20 FE here.

    • Sorry for the late reply. We'll improve app performance in the follow up releases.

      • Hi @Itwo, we've just released Prino version 2.1.0 to fix this sluggish issue. Could you please give it a try and let us know how it goes. Thank you!

  • +1

Should use staticice as a source. Just searched for a LG 38" monitor not many results. Should be a lot more. Thanks

    • Only tech stores they have

      CPL
      Harvey Norman
      JB Hifi
      MSY
      PLE
      The Good Guys

Would be great if they get Centrecom too since I don't think MSY and Centrecom are on staticice

      • Thanks Yoda.

  • +1

I downloaded it all i saw was dresses. Why

    • Have to scroll the categories running horizontally across the top

      • I get that but why dresses is it targetted or something.

        • Default view in the app. Change it however you wish.

    • This is one area of improvement that we will be working on in the next couple of releases. Thank you for raising the concern.

  • +1

Great app. Been looking for this for a long time. Thanks.

    • Hi @ca6leguy. How do you find the app so far? Especially about some of the improvements in the recent release (2.1.0).

  • +1

So for those that paid for Pro now if they have to reinstall the app after the 15th of November have to pay again?

Also did I pay for pro for nothing?

    • +1

Thank you for purchasing the Prino Pro app. Your support in the earlier days meant a lot to us and enabled us to push the development and support further.

We know that this seems unfair and will do all we can to make sure that the purchase Pro experience is permanent to you, even if being downloaded after November.

Please treat this consolidation just as a free offer of Pro/Premium experience for 30 days. We believe that this is the needed move which allows us to focus on delivering more values in a long term.

If you ever see an ad or limitation within the app please let us know and we'll fix that personally straightaway.

We are deeply sorry about the confusion and thank you for your understanding.

  • hmm, how come it doesn't list all products/variants a store has (e.g. washer/dryer on the good guys)? comes up with no results found.

    • Could you please shoot an email to [email protected] in more details? We'll investigate it further.

  • +3

Do they use referrals as a revenue source? Getting some links blocked by my pihole. The ozgameshop ones in particular.
I’m not even opposed to it, but if it is being done, it really should be disclosed. Seems sneaky otherwise.

Otherwise, I quite like this - especially the ‘in other stores’ feature!!

    • +1

      Your what hole!?

      • +3

LOL. I realise after reading it back how it looks. It’s become a common term in my vocabulary now :)

DNS based adblocker. Many people run it on a Pi :). https://pi-hole.net/

    • Thank you for your understanding. Affiliation helps us to cover part of our running cost. We'll make sure to include disclosure in the app in the next release. Sorry to make you feel that way.

  • +7

You gotta have Bunnings, SuperCheapAuto and the likes…. 😥

    • +1

I'm glad to let you know that Supercheap Auto and Motoquipe are now supported. There will be many more stores to come, it'll just take time :).

  • +1

Does it only store and notify the product from the specific store or all stores? If I search something like Bissell SpotClean, it's showing me 4 different stores. So do I add it once or 4 times?

    • +4

      Hi boogieman,
Yes, notifications will only come through for products from the specific stores that favourite. You'll need to add it for each store. Definitely take that feedback on board - it would be easier to be able to favourite just the one.

      • +1

This would be a killer feature. It’s one of the major downsides of pricehipster for me (this, and the rather odd search function).

      • Yes please, idential product for each store would be amazing!

  • +3

Got it through a previous deal, It's like price hipster in an app, and generally seems good, but two big problems :
    1) I don't get any alerts or notifications, even for products with a price alert when it goes below the target price. (this is on Android on xiaomi Mi 9T, and I have ~25 price alerts set, and have confirmed this problem across multiple stores and products).
    2) I reported this problem via the app, under More -> contact us -> issue, 5 weeks ago. No response or updates since reporting it. Someone else previously reported the same experience (no response to issue reports). The impression it's left on me is that the app seems to have basically zero user support at the moment.

That said, I'd still say get the app, but more in anticipation of what it may become in the future if these issues are resolved, rather than what it is right now.

    • +2

      Hey Nickj,
Sorry that we didn't get back to you yet - we've been focussing on this latest change to combine the apps into one. Still, no excuse to not respond. We'll look into this issue and get back to you when we've worked out whats going on.
If you want to reach us, feel free to drop a note to [email protected]

    • +1

I experienced the same issue as you and ended up uninstalling it. Have set price alerts for many products but never received any notifications. Price Hipster does what this does and more. Price Hipster emails you price alerts and it works well through a browser on a mobile phone.
