[Android, iOS] Prino (Price Tracking/History) Ad-Free if Installed before 17 Nov ($5.99 after) @ Google Play / Apple App Store

4650

~~ Update 25/10 ~~

Thanks for the all the upvotes, feedback and support. What a tremendous community we have here on OzBargain!
We've pushed out an update based on some of the feedback. Including a global search box, better iPad support (no landscape yet, sorry), Apple ID integration and more. Go ahead and update your app and let us know what you think.

We're always on the lookout for beta users so if you're interested in joining, send us a note to [email protected]

Happy Bargain Hunting :-)

Prino and Prino Pro are now one app. The Prino Pro experience is free if the app is installed before 17 November 2020!

Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=io.prino
iOS: https://apps.apple.com/app/id1494972797

We've built a price-tracking app that pulls in price data from a heap of online stores.

You can save products and get alerted when the prices drop.
We also chart the price history, so you can use it to discover discount cycles and ensure you're getting the best possible price.

We have an awesome community of active users, who’s feedback we take very seriously.
We're frequently adding more stores, products and prices to the app. Here are some new features we’ve just released in version 2.0:

    - 12-month price history
    - Save products without needing to sign in
    - Search and category performance improvements

Since launching, we've learned that running both Pro and Free app versions adds complexity that slows us down and dilutes our presence on the app stores. We've combined the two versions into a single app and are offering the ad-free Prino Pro experience for FREE if you download the app before November 17th.

We will then switch to a freemium model where the ad-free version is available through an in-app purchase. Anyone who downloads Prino before then, will automatically get it free for life. Cha-ching!

If you're already one of our loyal Prino Pro supporters, then please download the consolidated version and remove the old one. The old Prino Pro will no longer be supported. Really sorry if this is a pain, but we’re certain it's the right move for us and hope you can stick with us through this hiccup.

      • Hi @Rodo. We understand that there’s not much point if push notification isn’t working reliably. We have identified and fixed the pushed notification issue for Nick. Do you mind to shoot us an email ar [email protected] about your issue. We sure can help to resolve it. Thank you.

        • Hi, thanks. I had the pro version previously and this is what was not giving me the notifications. I will try out the non-pro version and let you know if I still have issues.

        • +2

Yes, with removing the old Prino Pro app, and installing the new unfied Prino app & logging in + the updates Prino have made, I am now getting price alert notifications! Also they're responding to reported issues in their support database. So both of main concerns are now solved. Therefore, if notifications didn't work before for anyone, I'd encourage them to try again now.

  • I paid for pro last time this was advertised on OzBargain.

now I’m confused which do I use are they the same?

    • Hi Brendan
Thanks so much for paying for Prino Pro! It is a bit confusing, we get it, sorry about that.
We want you to switch over to the app that we've linked to in this post. Then ideally remove the old one as we're not going to continue supporting it. There's some detail about why we've made this decision up in the post. Hit us up on [email protected] if you want to know more

      • +1

Ah cool, I really do like your app. It’s on my iphones front screen.

  • +1

    Hi-5 to app developers!

    • +2

      Right back at ya ^_^/

  • +3

needs to be made clear about use of affiliate links like commissionfactory are used. Its about transparency and building trust

    • +1

Hi @cozmo. Transparency and trust are critical to us. Hope that we showed this core value in our previous deals/posts re Prino. We are sorry that the current experience makes you feel that way. This is well noted and we'll make some changes in the subsequent releases to improve it.

  • Very awkwardly designed app, everything is so 'big' like it was designed for tiny resolution iPhone from 5 years ago or something. Also it seems to funnel you to search by store then within that store to search by product (at least from my experience) when in reality people will find it useful to search the other way around.

Also why make 'discover' the front page on app to lag the experience as it downloads the info only to spam me with completely irrelevant products?

Have a look at Camelcamelcamel then compare to see what I mean. The information is great though, but the lack of QOL and structure of the app is so slow I'd probably going back to just Google'ing my products instead.

    • Hi @plmko. Thank you for taking your time to try the app out and give us these valuable feedback. We'll definitely improve it further in subsequent releases.

      • I'm happy to let you know that we've release Prino version 2.1.0 with lots of improvements. Please give it a try an let us know what you think. Cheers.

  • @prino - is it possible to track IKEA Australia? I'd love to know when the things I've got my eye on go on sale, but there doesn't seem to be any trackers out there! Is it possible also to filter the clothes by gender?

    • Note has been taken. We'll prioritise and work on those 😊. Thank you for trying the app out.

    • +1

Don’t forget that there are two IKEAs in Australia.

One for WA/SA and one for the rest of Oz.

The prices differ in a seemingly random fashion, sometimes by a fairly significant percentage (like $50 on a $200 bookcase).

Can’t count the number of Ladda (Swedish for “Eneloop”) bargains I’ve clicked on only to discover it’s the wrong IKEA for me.

      • Oh, that’s good to know. Thank you. Location based pricing is a hard problem to deal with properly. We’ll need to think carefully about this one.

        • No need, see my comment below, all are under one banner now.

      • Fairly certain SA was sold back from CEBAS to IKEA, not sure about WA.

Edit: looks like both were sold back. https://www.afr.com/companies/retail/ikea-australia-buys-out…

        • I would love to let you guys know that IKEA Australia is now supported on Prino 🥳. Thank you for your support!

  • Really nailed your demographic haha

  • If I sign in the the pro version, and I change my phone. I install the Orginal Prino for the new phone after 16 of Nov, will I see the adv when i log in?

    • Definitely not. Your pro experience will be with your signed in account forever, even across devices.

  • Not enough stores. Sorry

    • Hi @aussiebabe. We are constantly adding more stores. Please let us know the stores that you are looking for and we’ll add them eventually. Thank you.

      • Hi @aussiebabe. Just want to let you know that Supercheap Auto, IKEA and Motoquipe are recently added. There are more to come. All we need is support from the community to keep us going firmly and strongly. Cheers.

  • +1

Hopefully you guys can add an automotive and tool section at some point in the future.

    • Hi @Crusader. We have noted the tools/hardware section. It will definitely be added at some point in a near future. Thank you for your support.

  • +1

Hey op thanks for the free app =)

Immediate thoughts, put the search box front and centre. It's a bit fiddly to find, and I really don't care about seeing dresses when I first open it haha. I expect the vast majority of users would want to search, rather than browse. At least maybe per store/category boxes/buttons on the front page? I'd expect a search bar at the top, and then eventually once a user signs in, can pin favourites to the front page, or you can try to suggest options when you have some data.

    • Agreed regarding the search bar. Needs to be right at the top.

    • Hi Incipient,
Thanks for trying out the app!
More relevant sorting is definitely something we're thinking about. A lot of different paths we could go down in that space. The browse vs search is an interesting one - ideally, I think we need to do both really well. Search for those times when you know what you want, relevant browsing for when you're in the mood to take advantage of a bargain - such as a heavily discounted clearance line. Either way, big search box that you can always get to, is probably a good one to try out.
Really appreciate the feedback, we'll definitely keep it in mind when prioritising our next work.

      • +1

Haha but don't take my word on design. Depending on how many active users you have, it may be worth doing AB testing on layout and see how people use them.

    • Search box is now in front and centre :). Thank you for your feedback.

      • +1

Huge improvement haha! =D I like it.

If I can continue to be needy. When someone has clicked on a product, and is on the product page, you really want them to click through to the store, I expect (for affiliate etc?). I would look at making the "go to store" button more primary. Possibly:
        - change it to a solid colour?
        - move the %discount down a line and make the store button bigger?

Do test, UI design is not my strength haha. But it does seem to be yours, the app really looks great =)

        • How could I missed your comment like this 🧐. Absolutely we’ll continue to make further improvements. Please continue to be needy 😉.

  • +1

Which word is Prino a truncated version of? I would've gone with OzBapp ;)
Cheers for the software, could be a winner.

    • +1

Hahaaa it’s just short and easy to remember I guess. I would say it’s a short form of “say no yo high price” 🤪

  • +1

    No Coles?

    • Not yet, unfortunately. Hopefully soon - we get a lot of requests for Coles. We'll let you know if we can get them on board

  • +1

Been a pricehipster user from the beginning. I feel dirty installing this..

    • You should. Hipster status revoked! Retire your ironic normcore clothing, then start rewearing it non-ironically.

    • Hope you still use both to find good deals 😉

  • +1

I don't think too many Android users will pay $5.99 for this.

    • Apple users are dumb enough to?

    • +1

Thanks for the feedback gimme. In a perfect world, we would love to offer the ad-free experience for free forever, for everyone - but we're not there yet. The app costs us money to run and we put a lot of hours into it. Right now, we're lucky enough to have some very generous supporters willing to flick us a few bucks for the ad-free experience, we're incredibly grateful for that. We intend to always offer a free version - but it will probably have ads.

Interested to understand if you wouldn't pay for it, no matter the price, or is it just that $5.99 is too high?

      • Android users are statistically less likely to pay for an app compared to apple. I can only speak for myself but $5.99 is on the higher end of apps and for me not enough value compared to phipster which is free. Wish you every success though.

  • So it's price hipster, except you are supposed to pay for it? Give me a break

    • +1

Hi @Budju. It's free to use and will always be. A standard experience will just have a small ad banner at the bottom of the screen to help us cover a tiny bit of our running cost, allowing us to put more effort into further development and support. This particular deal is to allow our early supporters enjoying the app without ever seeing any ads :).

  • How can I change my password for this? I can't find any option to do this within the Android app.

    • +1

We haven't got that implemented within the app. However there's a workaround.

Please try sign out and sign in again. On the sign in form, there's a Forgotten password link, please press that link, enter your registered email and follow the instructions. Please let us know how that goes.

  • I quite like the app (surprisingly) however you need to figure out that first loading time, it takes me good 5-10 seconds from Prino logo to to the product.
Tried on samsung note 9 512gb version.

    • Thank you for trying it out @penting :). We will sure work on improving the app performance in the next releases. You have our promise :).

      • Hi @penting. Have you tried out the latest version (2.1.0)? We improved the first loading time to only take a few seconds.

  • It says it is for the iPad, but mine will only show it in portrait mode, as though it is a phone - any tricks to getting it to show in landscape?

    • +2

Hi @Public21. We haven't made the layout work nicely on iPad yet. It's currently locked to portrait mode on all devices. We'll improve that in the upcoming releases.

  • +1

Awesome app! Been looking for this for a long time.
    Cheers!!

  • +1

I think the concept is nice and app is well designed. However, it's not something I would use when I have sites like OzBargain as Prino only shows full prices and not include coupon/discounted pricing. A good example is the Xiaomi 34inch Cruved Monitor where the lowest tracked price is $599 in Prino. I've seen multiple occasions where it was lower than that through OzBargain. As a bargain hunter I think I'll stick to OzBargain to make sure I get maxium savings, but great work on the app.

    • Hi @iinot,

Thank you for trying the app out and your valuable feedback. Rest assured that the app will continue to evolve with more features. Hope you can still use it as is in conjunction with other tools (OzBargain, Google…) to find the best deals.

      Cheers.

  • Sign in on iOS isn’t working. In-app browser opens then closes immediately:

Error - Failed to authenticate. Please try again later.

Hi @sween64. This issue looks pretty new to us. Would you mind sending us an email to [email protected] with device, OS version? Or send a bug report via the app More -> Contact Us screen. We sure and help to resolve it. Thanks for reporting the issue.

      • I’ve emailed but have received no reply.

        • Hi @sween64. For some reason the email does not come through. Could you please send it again? By the way, have your tried it again with the latest version of the app (2.1.0)?

          • @prino: I've email [email protected] directly rather than using the in-app contact, maybe that's broken too.

Yes, still can't sign in on version 2.1.0

  • Doesn't seem to update for out of stock items - found a great bargain but OOS when I went to the page.

Really good app though thank you

    • Hi @Andard. We are aware of this issue. The stock level that we are capturing is not real time. So it sometimes get out of date (especially on clearance items). We not yet decided on how to improve this.

  • Here's some feedback:
    - really sluggish on my pixel 3a XL (could be not much memory available as I have a few apps running. Still, it's considerable slow to respond compared to any other app)
    - cannot figure out how to search all categories
    - would love to be able to jump to a category. Slow performance might make this a bigger issue
    - being able to only select the categories I want to see and order them might be a good feature
    - that said I'm probably not your ideal user as I would never browse (only look at stuff in interested in buying and set alerts)
    - the URL on the sign in page could be better. It's also preventing it from playing nice with password managers

    • +1

Hi @AncientWisdom. Thank you so much for taking your time to try it out and provide us with comprehensive feedback like this. It really helps us to prioritise and iterate for a better app.

I’m really happy to let you know that we are actively working on a minor release (v2.0.1) which implements/fixes a majority of the issues you (and others) mentioned and will release in the next couple of days.

Please continue your support and we won’t disappoint you 😉.

      • Got a notification about an update, but no update available on the Play store…

        • What version are you on @AncientWisdom (can be looked up on the More screen)? We've just released version 2.1.0 and I can confirm that it's available on both Google Play and App Store.

          • @prino: I don't think you understood my last comment. What I meant was that the notification about the update showed up before the update got available (at least for me).

            The following still seems relevant:
            - still sluggish on my pixel 3a XL
            - ability to jump to a category
            - being able to only select the categories I want to see and order them

I did notice results showing now for search terms that returned no results previously (e.g. "s6 lite")

        • +1

Search for the app and update it. The new version is 2.1.0 (757)

  • Some stores to consider adding (I understand that there's a huge number of stores, these are just the ones I wanted and didn't seem to be supported) :

    • Amazon AU
    • Apple AU
    • Dan Murphy's
    • Liquorland
    • Coles [perhaps do this last, since based on Price Hipster's experience, they are a total PITA]
    • Hi @nickj. Thank you for raising the request. We've noted all above stores and will chip away one by one.

  • Can't install with non-AU Apple account. Possibly deliberate if it's in AUD and tracking Australian stores.

    • Hi @ozsj,

We've made it available in all countries. There's no harm in having users from other countries to look at Australian stores ;).

      Cheers.

  • Hey there, the app is really pretty and well done. Wish you guys all the best with its development!

I just want to recommend the following stores that can generate a lot of traffic -

    • Sephora
    • Mecca
    • Priceline
    • Adore Beauty
    • Look Fantastic

Just wondering if there is a desktop app as well?

    • Hi @okbianca,

It’s great to know that you like the app. We actually have Sephora, Adore Beauty and Look Fantastic supported (you could see it in search by typing the store name you are looking for). We’ve noted Mecca and Priceline to add.

Regarding to a desktop version, we have quite an out-of-date app at https://prod.prino.io. Please be aware that we haven’t maintained it for a while now (as we are more focused on the mobile app recently). If you find it helpful, we’ll prioritise and work on improving it soon. We also consider doing a browser plugin but haven’t got many requests on it.

      • Amazing, you guys are awesome! Thank you.

  • Just an idea, if it could group same product from other stores in your app to show prices at other stores. Similar to this

Also no way to sort price drop by days?

    • Hi @Pricebeat. We actually have that feature. When you press on a product and scroll down, you'll see "From other stores" and/or "Similar products" sections. "From other stores" is what you are looking for. Please bear in mind that not all product data that we collected has a barcode for us to match products so sometimes it appears in "Similar products" instead.

Regarding to sort price drop by days, could you please elaborate a little more. It could be a great idea. Cheers.

  • Hey guys, would love it if we could browse more than 200 search results before it doesn’t let you go further.

Also - would love a browser extension as well.

    • I also noticed some stores seem to have nothing? Like Sephora with just one item

      • Hi @okblanca. Showing more than 240 search results seems to be really slow on low end devices. We might consider increasing that limit for high-end devices. Regarding to a browser extension, we actually have a working prototype. Please stay tuned ;).

Regarding to Sephora only showing 1 item on the discover screen, it means that there only 1 hot deal from Sephora recently (price reduces to the lowest recently). If you enter Sephora in the search and select Sephora as a store, you'll see all ~8000 Sephora there. Please give it a try and let us know how it goes.
