In the stirring, highly anticipated first volume of his presidential memoirs, Barack Obama tells the story of his improbable odyssey from young man searching for his identity to leader of the free world, describing in strikingly personal detail both his political education and the landmark moments of the first term of his historic presidency-a time of dramatic transformation and turmoil.

Obama takes readers on a compelling journey from his earliest political aspirations to the pivotal Iowa caucus victory that demonstrated the power of grassroots activism to the watershed night of November 4, 2008, when he was elected 44th president of the United States, becoming the first African American to hold the nation's highest office.

Reflecting on the presidency, he offers a unique and thoughtful exploration of both the awesome reach and the limits of presidential power, as well as singular insights into the dynamics of U.S. partisan politics and international diplomacy. Obama brings readers inside the Oval Office and the White House Situation Room, and to Moscow, Cairo, Beijing, and points beyond. We are privy to his thoughts as he assembles his cabinet, wrestles with a global financial crisis, takes the measure of Vladimir Putin, overcomes seemingly insurmountable odds to secure passage of the Affordable Care Act, clashes with generals about U.S. strategy in Afghanistan, tackles Wall Street reform, responds to the devastating Deepwater Horizon blowout, and authorizes Operation Neptune's Spear, which leads to the death of Osama bin Laden.

A Promised Land is extraordinarily intimate and introspective-the story of one man's bet with history, the faith of a community organizer tested on the world stage. Obama is candid about the balancing act of running for office as a Black American, bearing the expectations of a generation buoyed by messages of "hope and change," and meeting the moral challenges of high-stakes decision-making. He is frank about the forces that opposed him at home and abroad, open about how living in the White House affected his wife and daughters, and unafraid to reveal self-doubt and disappointment. Yet he never wavers from his belief that inside the great, ongoing American experiment, progress is always possible.

This beautifully written and powerful book captures Barack Obama's conviction that democracy is not a gift from on high but something founded on empathy and common understanding and built together, day by day.

          Lol your interpretation

Cuomo is responsible for the huge amount of deaths from covid in NY

250,000 (if that’s the figure now) died with not of covid

I was being lazy but next time I’ll know I’m talking to a Biden supporter

@grasstown: Your lack of empathy about the number of dead speaks volumes about your character. It's actually about 270000 poor souls dead from COVID, a figure which means less to Trump and his followers then a few rounds of Golf and a 30K record on the Dow Jones …….. and as we all know the 30K figure represents corporation profit not citizen wages, a feat achieved by sacking a crap ton of Americans not decreasing unemployment.

Obama wasn't a good man, wasn't evil either, was simply human - this is why I read books on histories most powerful figures.

Trump is an example of why people shouldn't vote influencers into positions of power. He's a petulant obnoxious psychopathic (accused) rapist interested in only Fame/Money/Power.

It's not his fault though, he's a product of society. If we really wanted to eradicate the perverse values Trump promotes then we should start with the basics, like schooling. If we taught the young more about histories true heroes like Jenner or Salk then maybe we wouldn't have modern heroes like Jenner or Sulk Trump.

            • @Ebany: Read this thread re Obama.

If that’s what you see when you see Trump, you hate Christians

Covid = Corona virus from wuhan, china or CCP virus, you’re welcome.

      • +1

Trump said Covid will go away in April, why did he lie?

        • Because his people told him bleach can't be injected.

          • -1

@Ebany: You’re a fool if you think trump thought or said bleach can be injected. Only a hater would hear that

            • @grasstown: Here's the proof

@Ebany: It was funny but I’m thankful that 74M don’t get their news from there. No mention of the good that trump has done for blacks, minorities, gays, women, asians, world peace etc. don’t bother commenting on this, just Google what I said if you disagree.

Nowhere did he say inject yourself with disinfectant. He is saying that disinfectant knocks it out in one minute. And is there a way we can do something like that, by injection or cleaning. I understand it as something that can be injected that knocks it out in a minute, like an antivenom. But I guess I got to go to school and others may not have.

"So, supposing we hit the body with a tremendous - whether it's ultraviolet or just very powerful light - and I think you said that hasn't been checked, but you're going to test it," Trump said. "And then I said, supposing you brought the light inside the body, which you can do either through the skin or in some other way, and I think you said you're going to test that too. It sounds interesting."

"Then I see the disinfectant, where it knocks it out in a minute. One minute. And is there a way we can do something like that, by injection inside or almost a cleaning," Trump continued. "Because you see it gets in the lungs and it does a tremendous number on the lungs. So it would be interesting to check that."

@grasstown: Yet there were record number of calls made to poison control shortly after, mostly from his deranged followers.

  • The amount of negs on this deal vs Jordan Peterson book, prove that the easily brainwashed moronic swill of Australia are bigger snowflakes than anyone left of centre.

    • And they're not even that good of a deal.

Would probably just get them both for 15$ via audible.

      • I used one of my credits

Also, Carl Sagans Cosmos is on the daily deal list, just picked up the Audible version for $3.99
