      • Nothing wrong with 4K/60fps.

        • what about 1080p @ 60fps? Depends on the panel and low input lag?
Good monitor will always be better but not sure about consoles
No one wants to sit at the desk all the time though.

      • It can do 120hz however still struggles to maintain 60fps without using Dynamic resolution scaling.

  • Why the 55inch and 65inch priced the same? Any difference in terms of features?

  • +1

I made the horrible mistake of buying a series8 kogan one when they had a price drop… what a broken and terrible TV. Just absolute junk, software is broken, image quality is amazingly bad, a true achievement of failure! (and on my part by buying it).

$699 (kogan series 8 tv at time) piece of junk I'm stuck with now….

    • Kerbside collection

      • yep that's about all its good for, nobody going to buy this thing off me, even at a major discount :(

        • It would be a shame if some high voltage spikes like those from a gas igniter happened to fry the circuit board and the tv stopped working. Might have to ask for a refund.

          :P

    • Loving my series 9. Seriously can't fault a thing about it. Is there really that big of a quality jump?

  • Bought the 55 inch eko smart tv at big w last week when it was on sale for $379 (replaced our kogan 55 incher which the kids had smashed).

I think they must've come out of the same factory - similar quality, build, features (i.e. mediocre), even the remotes are almost identical (I found the kogan remote works with the eko TV).

    • how is it ? I haven't opened mine.

I have bought Seiki from Target which has the same remote as well and happy with it.

  • Seems to be identical to this one but branded Blaupunkt:
    https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B08469WLC6?smid=ANEGB3WVEVKZB

This is $761 but you get free delivery, too.

    • IIRC the Blaupunkt brand name was sold to the distributor for these. ayonz or some such. They also do the aldi Bhaun tvs (well at least some of them)

    • Would have been good with the recent Amazon discounts.

Wouldn't mind a new telly but probably not much of an upgrade besides the 4k. Is 200hz worth it for the smoothness?

Still using a 2017 Bravia kdl-65w850c full hd 1080p , kind of 2015 tech and have a Chromecast Google TV anyway (a lot snappier and voice control remote). Also now have a soundbar so crappy tv sound is expected these days with thinner panels.

Wouldn't mind a 4k but the input lag seems pretty good on this, and can play games at 60hz from the PC with HDMI cable, bit that I do much. The picture is good but still not extra exciting, could be worth upgrading sometime, it wait till it breaks. Not keen on spending thousands, wouldn't be bad if I could get $500 for mine I don't know probably not worth much even though was 1200 bucks.

The Eko looks to sit pretty low, thinking most soundbars may block the bottom of the picture. Although 65" is pretty big so maybe alright, The Sony stand is a bit in the way anyway and TV has to sit back.

Ideally a matching Samsung TV would be good with Q symphony and Dolby Atmos- for some reason loss reverts to 5.1 in Netflix halfway through some movies so I'm not sure if it's because of the arc detecting the old TV doesn't have it. I've got the Google TV plugged into the soundbars HDMI so seems to have the ability and work mostly

      • ps. Had a look at the specs here
        https://www.eko-entertainment.com.au/65-qled-4k-androidtv-k6…

The height with/without stand indicates would sit up 62mm. better match for my soundbar than what I got.
Just depends if it's worth the upgrade. Sony came out and replaced the mainboard in Feb under ACL, bought the telly Apr 2017 so was happy with that - not sure you'd get the same with Ako but pretty cheap anyway.

I still can't find out if you need a tv with Dolby atmos if it's the last link in Google TV -> Soundbar (HDMI) -> TV (HDMI ARC).
By all rights you shouldn't, just like if the source was an AV receiver etc. Could just be this Netflix account, brazil subscription but all AUS content works fine and is the default still.

  • 520kw rating - energy wise,

no idea how many stars but seems low.

Tvs at 65 inch can use up to 70-60 cents an hour.

Def will add up over time.

    • +1

This QLED 65" seems to be the K650USGQ
      https://www.energyrating.gov.au/calculator
      Star Rating - 6 star
Energy used each year - 370 kWh

      • amazing. i was comparing this with TCL 65c715 which is almost same as this in terms of feature sets but the energy rating is only 4.5 stars. Wonder how this panel achieves such high rating for similar qled technology

  • anyone with camera knowledge know if that camera is a good deal?

    • +1

Seems cheaper than grey import. https://www.tobydealsau.com/en_AU/product/canon-eos-3000d-ki…

As to if it is the sort of camera you are after that would be a much harder question.

Maybe make a post in the forums or on the photography section of whirlpool.

Personally i would find somehting mirrorless. Such a waste of space having such a large body on the DSLRs just to fit the mirror in.

    • The included lens will likely be rubbish, might include some plastic elements. The camera body would be ok but then you'd have to spend money on some good glass. Really depends what you need. The battery life on an DSLR is what gives them an advantage, as the sensor is not live all the time (unless in live view).

  • only 1 year warranty ?

  • Can't find the deal, is it available now or expired?

    • As per the deal details:

        • Be ready to be Ozbargained lol

I have a 10 year old Samsung plasma, I have never upgrade as I fear cheap qled have pixelation with fast moving scenes. Is this still the case?

    • +1

It seems spec disclosure of such kind of brand model is always limited, I guess it has at least basic MEMC function. On the other hand, I think even oled can not beat high-class plasma at all aspects.

      • Shame they discontinued plasma

  • EKO? Sounds generic, just like Kogan. No 120Hz - there is a reason it's cheap.
For some this might do the trick, just depends on what you're expecting, but this has nothing on a proper banded (well-known brand).
Keep the box and all the packaging as Big W allows for 90-day no question returns, in case you end up disappointed once you get it home.
    https://www.bigw.com.au/returns#:~:text=BIG%20W%20gives%20yo…

    • Can’t really judge without proper reviews. Just because it’s a cheaper product doesn’t necessarily mean we should automatically dismiss it as poor quality based on that premise alone. Interestingly one of the reviews in the other Eko deal thread here stated a Eko tv compared quite well against a $3000 Samsung Tv.

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/584862

Not saying it’s a good product but with limited information it’s hard to assess.

  • +2

Great TV, especially for the price I've had no issues with it.
Sound sucks though, but who doesnt have a soundbar these days ?

    • It’s interesting according to the comments section on 75 inch deal the sound on that one is brilliant. Interestingly see such a difference between two similarly priced tv from same brand.

      • EKO have two 65" and two 75" they are often mistaken for each other. I can assure you the sound is sub-par but picture quality is great

        • There must be a few different versions now. Some have Android OS, one uses WebOS which seems to be the best one judging by the comment sections. This is the Android version thus not as good?

          • @Ronnnie: As Chimi has mentioned, there are two 65" - QLED and Non-QLED both running Android TV, For the 75", both are Non-QLED with one running WebOS and the other running Android TV. The WebOS is a new arrangement with LG to use their OS for EKO hardware. As Jun888 said, it's a matter of just a different configuration, in this case with exempt to the 65" where one is QLED. Hope this helps.

            • @JaeTee: So which one is better, considering I have a new chromecast with Google TV dongle anyway?
              Nothing on rtings.com about them..

Is 4k/HDR worth the upgrade from Bravia 2015 tech 1080p LED? This (KDL-65w850C) seems good for gaming 7.6 on rtings, can record to hdd etc. Prob no other features really need.

No name brands have their quirks with menus and other things but as a dumb panel would be great for the price.

              • @G-rig: I would lean towards either the 65" QLED (although haven't seen much feedback on this) or the 75" with WebOS which i have read have quite a few positive feedback from this post as well as https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/584862

And yes 4K has noticeable improvements from 1080p if you are playing actual 4K content

                Hope this helps!

                • @JaeTee: So by 65" QLED is that the one in The big W Catalogue featured (and Amazon link above), with the android os?

Not sure what I'd get for mine, but possibly still a little bit. I'm testing out Netflix ultra HD for the Dolby Atmos, may as well stream 4k as well if paying extra but probably don't really need either.

                  Thanks

                  • @G-rig: Yes the 65" is the one in the Big W Catalog featured. The Amazon link is for the Blaupunkt which comes from the same distributer however there is no mention that that is the QLED version or the non QLED version.

For Dolby Atmos, you would need a TV that has eARC to be fully compatible and in some cases limited bandwidth Dolby Atmos with compatible devices over HDMI Arc. From the specifications, the EKO's only have HDMI Arc.

                    Cheers

                    • @JaeTee: Yeah I guess some of those features are what you'd want these days if bothering to update but all increase the price.

Is that still the case even if the tv isn't The source? Ie not using the TV's app or usb for Netflix but Google TV straight into the soundbar.

Perhaps the bandwidth bumped it down but then The same titles don't show the Atmos logo in the Netflix titles. Anyway have got a Google TV ethernet adaptor now so will see if it makes any difference

                      • @G-rig: Logically if the Google TV will connect to the TV and pass through sound through the TV's HDMI's port to the soundbar? If this is the case, i see no difference between the TV's Netflix vs Google TV's Netflix connection? i may be wrong… but unless as you said, due to limited bandwidth from the TV.

Do test it out and let us know with the ethernet adapter.

                        • @JaeTee: Yes except i have GTV -> Soundbar -> TV
So the tv should just be a display, but HDMI arc means the CEC stuff all powers on/off with whichever remote.
just playing something now and hasn't dropped back to 5.1 so far so good. Bit of a moot point anyway if the soundbar is a mid range one after all this.

                      • @G-rig: Did some more research and it seems only certain devices are able to currently stream Netflix with Dolby Atmos as Netflix has to "support" these devices or have inventory of support devices. https://www.comparetv.com.au/news/netflix/netflix-brings-dol… This was written last year so more devices maybe supported now…

"Currently, Dolby Atmos streaming is supported on Microsoft’s Xbox One, One S, One X, Apple TV 4K, Windows 10 computers and tablets, as well as 2017 LG OLED TVs, 2019 Panasonic TV’s and any Sony BRAVIA Android TV after 2018."

                        • @JaeTee: Cheers, hopefully the list grows as this samsung Q70T soundbar has it.
Probably safe to add Google TV to the list - the official site only states:

Up to 4K HDR, 60 FPS, Supports resolutions up to 4K and high dynamic range (HDR) Video formats
Dolby Vision, HDR10, HDR10+ for stunning picture quality.

                          Tom's guide states:
Supported audio formats: Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, and Dolby Atmos

Obviously you need the Netflix Ultra HD subscription (so was thinking may as well upgrade from 1080p to justify it)

                          • +1

@G-rig: Cool thanks for the info, since you have the audio ready to go, definitely upgrade to 4K! Then you should be all set for the holidays.

                            • @JaeTee: May as well test it at least. This tv is still very good for what it is and should be easy to sell.
The 10w+10w (Sony) speakers are better than most too these days.
                              Cheers,

              • @G-rig: If you watch 4K/HDR content on it closely (closer than 2M?), it should look more clear than Sony 1080p.

BUT if you watch 1080p and below on it, I think it is notably worse than Sony 1080p. Just my personally guess.

            • @JaeTee:

As Chimi has mentioned, there are two 65" - QLED and Non-QLED both running Android TV

I have the non-qled and my mate has the qled. Pasting my comparison from before

I have the previous version of the 65" Android (not "frameless" and not QLED, K65USG). I got my mate the one you have, K65USGQ. Some differences I've noticed is that yeah the sound on mine is better mainly because it has Bass and Treble adjustment (in conjunction with the equaliser) where as your one does not. I've asked EKO FB support if they could add it in a firmware update since the K65USG has it. They said a firmware update isn't currently possible due to something about Google voice activation. This was in the beginning of September. Also, a major thing I noticed is that the K65USGQ had a lot more corner vignetting than the K65USG, likely noticeably more. The remotes have changed in looks dramatically. The new one is all black and smaller. It now has a channel recall button which is something I miss with mine and I don't know why they didn't include it in the first place. Also, I've never really had problems with my remote like others have. It always pairs up via BT no probs. Love using the remote without having to lift it up and point.

        • I think they actually are those cheap large TVs from China, in which one model may has different configuration such as system(ram, rom, memc) and screen(brand) and so on, and price of 75'' may be CNY3000($600) or so.

          • @Jun888: Yeah it's a bit hard without looking at the actual picture yourself and functionality, get burnt too easily half the time based on some reviews on the net and people hyping stuff up. Still not a huge outlay etc

            • +1

@G-rig: I was in Big W a few weeks back and had a look at these. They only had the non QLED version on display. They are decent but do suffer from reflection glare if you are going to place them in a bright room. I can't comment on the QLED version as it was not on display.

              • @JaeTee: Good to know, that and viewing angles are things that can be annoying.
Hmm could always sus it out today if they have any on display.
                Cheers,

  • I wonder if this will be available on their eBay store? It would be good to get some Swap ebay card and get cheaper delivery fee!

  • Does this tv have gaming mode?

  • Wow, there's so many expert opinions.
I find reading these comments fascinating!

    • so is it any good for the price?

No mention of motionflow that kind of thing, Assume HDR replaced it now?

Is 200Hz necessary etc? Couldn't see in the specs (besides 100-240V 50/60Hz)

      Cheers

      • Yes. You're not getting anything better in this price range, and the features others mention come in TVs considerably more expensive.

        • Cheers got one put aside can't hurt to test out, probably a rebranded decent panel by the sound of it. Traditionally my Sony Bravia is better but older tech

          • @G-rig: I speculate that these cheaper generic branded tvs are probably equivalent to the lowest tier more expensive brands but with worse quality control. So there’s more of a chance that you buy one that may experience troubles. However it also comes down to how fussy you are like with every single tech, each year there’s improvements and cheaper products get better. Someone in the other deal claims their Eko is as good as their $3000 Samsung from a couple of years ago. And I’m sure they are right in their assessment.

            • +1

@Ronnnie: Agree mate online reviews are a bit hit and miss with everybody's expectations and standards, the quality control too as you say.

From all reports that sounds like it should be decent especially for the price I wouldn't pay full price though for a noname. I think the days of paying top dollar for a Sony are gone and there is stuff out there, just whether it's worth the effort of giving it a go.

I'm usually pretty picky with audio and visual these days don't care about the visual as much but should be a decent setup. My old Sony was 2015 LED tech purchased in 2017.

Expecting a good 4K quality picture I don't care much else about the features as I've got a Chromecast Google TV. these days it seems like you're mostly paying for features. As long as fully functional, no backlight bleeding, reasonable blacks, expecting some reflection but the rooms not bright.

Oh found out my brother's mate got to dead on arrival before going with something else, you have to be pretty unluckyBig W will be an easy return if necessary.

              Cheers

QLED = marketing steroids for LED.

Q, U are appended to LED to make them look like OLED in marketing materials.

    QLED = prank
    ULED = prank
    OLED = reality

LG had specifically called out on manufactures who use such misleading acronyms to make these marketing LED equate as equal to far superior OLED. https://www.lg.com/us/experience-tvs/oled-tv/oled-vs-qled

To an average consumer who know zilch or something or even above average about tech, this marketing ploy can confuse them.

Sony and LG are far ethical manufacturers I believe because they have no such Q/U LED pranks on consumers and this makes it clear where preferences of each manufacturer are, only your wallet or your wallet +your experience.

  • Would anyknow know if Eko Android TVs support Samsung Dex with a Note device. I think it needs Miracast for that to work?

  • Just wanted to update those who with information from my chat with EKO:

I asked if there is much difference between the 65" QLED VS 70" 4K VS 75" 4K WebOS and this was their reply:

"The qled will have more crisp image
The rest are the same but the 70” is one of the best tv.
    It’s a premium panel glass"

I then asked for his personal opinion between the 70" and 65" QLED and he said he would personally go for the 70"

I know the 70" is not currently on sale (was few weeks back) but perhaps there might be another special in the future.

    Hope this helps those contemplating.

    • Weird. Hahaha

  • That's interesting I probably wouldn't want bigger than 65 from my place personally on another note my brother's friends mate got one of these and went through two, and said they were duds. Bit hit and miss these type of brands isn't it.
Still Keen to test and can always return I guess.

  • Did anyone know if the price change online at midnight?

  • My 60" Bauhn is almost 3 years old now, might be time for a replacement.

  • Stock is back on

  • Does anyone know what time these deals go live? Looking to snag the 65" for my PS5.

  • Deal is live, bought one! Hopefully they release it on ebay as well and I'll cancel and pay via eBay instead :D

    • Damn it, who puts a deal live at 4:30am. That's so frustrating :(

      • +1

hope you still can get one? Sold out online but stores around me mostly still have stock!

I might have missed it too if it wasn't my newborn waking me up =))

        • Cheers mate, yep I ended up grabbing one in my nearest store. The struggle now will be figuring out how to get it home hahaha!

          • +1

@Darkvolcos: I think people above mentioned that delivery works out cheaper in store too. maybe ask them?

            • +1

@alo1234: Oh I'll ask! You're coming in as MVP for me today man thanks a bunch.

            • @alo1234: That's true was 28$ for me, getting delivered tomorrow arvo

  • quick question does anyone know if this has HDMI-CEC, doesn't exactly say in the manual.
Is ARC basically the same control?

Edit: ignore that, saw a picture in the inputs section. Shouldn't be too many other anomalies
    Cheers

  • In the instruction manual it talks about pixels that are either always lit or dark as inherit to this type to tech and does not constitute a defective product.
Is this typical for a TV?? Surely that would normally be warranty/refund/replacement situation?

  • Any gifts card or further discount? I got 1k from JB hifi only =(

    • The RACT do Wish gift cards for 5% off, I assume the other auto clubs do also…

      • I will have a look

        • I should have mentioned that's for Auto-club members only*…

    • I went on classified and there was a someone offering WISH e-gift cards in $500 blocks for about ~5% discount. Saved about $30, better than nothing.

      • Does it worth the risk to be scammed? Buying it on gumtree looks risky to me.

        • Oh whoops I meant buying on ozBargain classified. Still a risk ofc, but I guess if they’re active members of the community they’re pretty trustworthy IMO.

          I made a post here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/588197
And the guy selling was reliable so maybe send him a message.

  • Order update says shipped now. Does that mean delivery may be today? Or does the courier really juggle these massive TVs around their warehouses for a couple days?

    • When did you order? I ordered online pickup at my local store at about 7am and it still says processing.

      • 6.30am

        • Thank you. Just got confirmation in the last hour.

  • I ordered mine in store, using 5% off BigW card from AAMI. but the delivery fee is only $1 cheaper than online.

hoping to replace my hisense with this eko as the main driver, the hisense seems to have a lot of shadow for fast action movie, which is bothering me from the 1st day.

  • Bought one of these 65" QLEDs this morning. Just finished setting it up. Xbox connected. All good so far.

I would like to know if anyone has some picture settings they can share.

The default options are ok, but I recommend going into the advanced video options and turning off all that post-processing junk.

    • +1
      • Thankyou, I'll try these settings tonight. l'm currently using the default 'Gaming' picture setting, but with all the post-processing options turned off. Not sure how it compares to the settings in your link, but the brightness, contrast etc seems about right. Better than the default movie setting. Looks good for both gaming and movies.
