Well said Vladdo. If you're pissed off, vote with your feet. This talk of legal action and involving the ACCC just seems petulant.

      • both of course

    • I think its totally repesentative of this practice. Its the old one TV out for $20 rest are $2000 (okay that's an extreme example). The way allphones is acting looks like there is a case to be made, I'll be backing up the email for later.

  • +12

the way I see it. The T&Cs do give them the power to pull the promotion whenever. However, to me, pulling the promotion only means stop giving out voucher code. There's another term reading the code is valid prior to 29th Feb 2012. So the way I see it, if I have a code, and I haven't used it, I've got until 29th Feb 2012 to use my code.

    • +1

+1 I should have the rights to use the code before 29thFeb2012.

Allphones reserves the right to verify the validity of use of the Offer at any time.
AllAmazingDeals.com and Allphones reserve the right to remove or amend the voucher offer at any time.

not entirely sure though, i doubt you could use it till 29/02/12, as business will have T&C set up for these situations

      • +4

Their legal department did a bit better than their IT department at least.

        • lol

        • +1

Business and IT is not aligned :P

      • +1

but I'm pretty sure it's both acceptable and reasonable to assume that as soon as you entered the promotion, the terms and conditions at the time you entered are to be bound. Thus, even if AllPhones turns around and pull the promotion after people have entered, those who entered should be entitled to the T&Cs they agreed to from the beginning.

          @alvian:

AllAmazingDeals.com.au were running a promotion, sponsored by AllPhones, where you could enter in your Email address, First Name, Gender and State in exchange for a code which entitled you to $200 off any phone from AllPhones priced at $300 or more, valid until February 29th. I provided my details and was issued a unique voucher number via email. Upon adding an item to my cart on the AllPhones website and using the code I was given, no discount was applied. I tried using Google Chrome, Firefox and Internet Explorer, as well as Opera on my mobile but it would not work. I emailed AllPhones with my voucher and the phone I wanted and requested them to contact me, but to no avail. AllPhones have since stated that they will not honour valid codes that were given out but not used, which is contrary to their claims that the vouchers would be valid until February 29th, 2012. I would just like AllPhones to accept my code and allow me to purchase the phone with the $200 discount, as promised. Thanks, Michael

Sorry for the formatting; That's how it turns out on the ACCC's website. Might want to elaborate a bit more too if you think it's necessary.

  • Not sure when the mod posted his stuff ( right at the top of the page )
Does this mean those who missed out on actually making the order but still have a code can email [email protected] and have their vouchers upheld?

    • unfortunately, no. they are implying that these codes are void. this is turning in horrible publicity for them.

    • AllPhones specifically replied on FB saying only the actual legit placed orders on their website are honours. So if you have an order with them, that'll go through, provided the code used is yours. If you have a code and haven't ordered, the code is useless, for now.

    • Tried that got the out of office reply. Guess they are hoping we go away

  • +1

I am so tempted to call my lawyer eventhough it will cost more than $200!!! very dissapointed!!

  • +1

The T/C was stated on allamazingdeals.com for using the codes, once Allphones system accepted the codes and your payment has gone through, you both parties are actually in a contract. They will be breaching the contract if they don't honor.

    • AP is claiming those contracts were made fraudulently, and so will be cancelled. And to prevent further instances of fraud, the promotion is cancelled.

    • Are you quoting a specific law (if so reference please), or is that in your opinion?

  • +2

    This is a good suggestion:

"Allphones, you should issue new codes to anyone that signed up. You and/or All Deals have our email addresses, so you can easily send us new codes (that cannot be guessed), and fix up your site so that people can't do silly things like buy phones that were never included. This allows you to ask for a few days to prepare, then honor the deal safely, without the PR mess. It's so obvious, why not do this?"

    • +1

Because it will cost them gazzillions…

      • +2

        Not that bad…

The S II seems the most popular one.

Say they sell 500 S II at the 'Less $200' price.

Thats 100k in reduced revenue, those are NOT losses.

Is $100k worth stirring the Ozbargain Hornets' Nest?

Now the bile and venom is all over Twitter, Facebook, Forums and most importantly in people's memories.

Crazy Johns and Telechoice must be 'Giggling their MF @sses off".

    • Good suggestion. Email them and put it up on tweeter and their FB page.

      • not my suggestion, i put quotes around it because i pulled it off someone's comment on fb

        • +1

It was my comment from their FB page, and I've just emailed it to them too - so they definitely know it now. The situation is definitely fixable, if they want to fix it.

    • Sounds good to me.

I wonder if they have any desire for "damage control".
Its as simple as honoring the legit codes once they've pruned the others.
      Easy…

      • +1

easy if they received less than 100 orders maybe. Judging by their comments they received more than that amount of orders.

btw, if they sold 100 sgII at $200 off i think this is a great deal and congrats to anyone who got it.

  • Not only do the codes not work, but i'm unable to unsubscribe from the allamazingdeals mailing list. The unsubscribe link at the bottom of the email just goes to a "server not found" page.

So no $200 discount and now a bunch of spam from these lying jerks, probably onselling our details. Have made a complaint to the ACCC and will never buy from either company!

    • +8

      No

    • lol you serious?

    • we are complaining about allphone's ethics (and legality) and you come asking for a code to take advantage in case they allow us to use them?

      • +1

        a case of tl;dr?

    • +2

Sure - copy and paste the code ID10T into your web browser on the ordering page. Thank us all when you're done :)

Thank you for contacting the ACCC.

Side note, thanks to the OP for posting, twas a good deal for those that got it! :)

  • +12

The way I see it, this deal failed on multiple fronts:

    1) The code took way too long to be "activated", so it tempted people to 'hack' it.

    2) People found a way to hack it using the -500 trick so legitimate use of the code has now become void.

    3) People found a way to purchase a phone that is <$300RRP.

    4) People can use the code more than once.

All in all, the AllPhones websites obviously haven't gone through enough testing.

What I reckon AllPhones should do is to

    • invalidate all those orders that breached the <$300RRP condition. Let face it, you are abusing the system. Seriously not cool.

    • cross check with Amazing Deals to see which code was sent to which email (if they actually keep a record of it), then for all the email addresses that purchased the phone that do not match to the email addresses that the code was sent to, send an email to the email address that purchased the phone and ask them which email address received the code. If they can answer it correctly, then it is considered as legit. Because those who use the -500 hack won't know which email received the code.

    • For those people who used the code more than once, only process the first order and refund the rest.

    • And for all other codes that are not used, keep them valid as per the T&C. That is, of course, after they fix the damn website.

    • Good rationale. Kind of glad I came too late to this whole shemozzle. Still for the lucky few …
      I wonder just how few.

  • +4

Looks like they may honour it to those who have vouchers!

    From the AllPhones Facebook page:
"Thank you for this overwhelming response to this offer. We always want to look after our customers. Unfortunately, there has been an incredible amount of fraudulent entries into our system. We have closed the offer down. It will take 7-14 days to check legitimate entries. Those of you that have legitimate codes and have entered full & correct details on the All Amazing Deals website will be able to redeem the offer. We thank you for your patience & we look forward to supplying you with your new handset."

    • YES!!! WAY TO GO ALLPHONES !!!

      (Hope this is right)

    • Further update:

"Once we have been through the long process of authenticating the codes with legitimate customers. The offer will be honored."

      • so this applies for people who had legit codes but could not order the phone with their legit code?

    • I have my LEGIT code I will want to redeem, that's for sure!

    • +3

I am still skeptical, it is just a delay for them to crunch the numbers and hold a few meetings. If the numbers don't look right, they can just change the promo (lower the voucher value/limit the handset range..etc) and again cite the T&C. It's all at their discretion.

I'll believe it when a handset is in my hands.

      • I think fiddling with the details is just as silly as not honoring it.. people will howl.
They can just pull this over the line as a marketing "win" if they honor it fully to the legitimate people. Has to be just as offered though.

Then they can walk away as "the good guys" (with a huge publicity boost)

        • I believe that they're not oblige to honour it. It's a business afterall, if Allphones (or any other business) forecasts that they'll make a size-able loss, they'll most likely cut off their losses based on the agreed T&C/contract at the cost of their reputation in the short run.

I might be wrong here, word of mouth and the OzBargain community maybe a powerful marketing medium but at the end of the day Allphone's failed promo is not mainstream or newsworthy enough to make a large dent to their reputation. Even bigger brands like Qantas manage to survive through those lockouts/strikes with some of their reputation intact and seem to be surviving… so far

        • They would have costed the voucher numbers at the start.
Once they have weeded out the non eligible sales, their "loss" would not exceed their originally proposed promotion budget.
Also the reality of how it has run now also needs to be managed and potential lemons turned unto potential lemonade (sorry for the stretched metaphor) by honoring the deal.

        • Obviously there were a number of major fails in the system, eg not limiting the voucher codes, reusing codes..etc. But exceeding their promotional budget is still a loss. Point being that it'll be nice of them to honour the deal but I am not expecting much.

    • -1

Hmm, I used two different emails for my code and the order (but with the same names). Do you think it will be processed?

      • -2

Not anymore since Allphones is monitoring this thread and you were dumb enough to post that question here. First thing they are going to do is delete both orders of a Mr Ant Ant from Adelaide LOL

        • -1

Where did he say he placed two orders? He signed up for the allamazingdeals page using one account and placed his allphones order using another. I can't see anything wrong with that. It's like making a purchase through your work e-mail account, but having all the advertising emails going to a personal account.

        • LOL he didn't. I was sooo friggin pissed reading through this thread with the suggestions of scamming others codes by minusing x, that I saw "I used two different emails for my codes.." My bad. Was being humorous with the second part though, obviously no one is named Ant Ant. Anyway, wasn't me who negged his comment so looks like someone else misread it too..

  • +11

I really don't understand some of the comments here. I am no fan of large companies, I can tell you a number of banks and Telco's that will attest to that. However this is a promotion and there is a limit to the number of phones that they will be prepared to loose on. The power of ozbargain is immense. I have a mate who at the time was working for a place that was giving away vouchers ( from a large retailer ), they budgeted to give away 2000 $50 vouchers. It was posted on ozbargain and by the time the number hit 7000 they canned it. $200 is a fair discount from what I think are reasonably ( not bargain ) priced phones, how many do you think is fair? I don't have anything at all to do with Allphones but if it were me and even if I thought I might cop some flack I would draw a line. It's like the pricing mistakes, most of time these are genuine mistakes and like all of you it really pis…. me off to have my order rejected. But how many of you would make a mistake and then honour it at the costs of possibly large $$$. By the way unless they have accepted the money there is no legal recourse whatsoever. If they did they must supply or if the product is not available an equivalent product, even then it's not 100% water tight at law. Try the ACC but I don't fancy your chances. I am just trying to be realistic here, not standing up for them.

    • Well basically, if they put up an offer and people respond in good faith… then pull it down. From a marketing perspective, its about the path of least resistance.
IE, the point of the offer was to positively promote Allphones, to not honor the deal to the legitimate redeemers "costs" far more in terms of negative publicity than the price of the vouchers (which would have been costed as a promotion at the start).
Every pissed-off customer is supposed to be able to affect 8 sales, or so the old maxim goes.
Honoring the deal fully to the legitimate redeemers, at this point leaves a "positive" spin after a huge publicity roller coaster ride - Ozbargain has very deep reach these days.

Its definitely the smart thing to do.

    • +1

Imho, it's their fault for not planning it properly.

They really screwed this up from the technical aspect:
      - Coupon working for phones under $300
      - Coupon working multiple times
      - Coupon taking 40+ minutes to work
      - No limit on the amount of coupons generated

  • doublepost.

    Here it is.

    Got get them!

    http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/834/allamazing.jpg/

  • Ok their bullshit comments are starting to piss me off now:

FACEBOOK COMMENTER: does that mean you are honuring all the valid codes that havent been used yet?

FACEBOOK ALLPHONES REPLY: No, only the codes that were used before the promotion ended will be honored.

    • What happened to:

"Those of you that have legitimate codes and have entered full & correct details on the All Amazing Deals website will be able to redeem the offer."

      TOSSERS

    • Not on facebook, but can someone ask / find out when the promotion officially ended

      • +1

Allphones will simply say it ended before you tried to redeem your code.

    • Gee, they're just making it worse :(

  • +5

Looks like we ozbargain'd Commonwealth Bank (where the payment for Allphones was done through), no one with CBA can access their money!

  • A really silly thing (as mentioned by others as well) was that 'sequential' codes were generated. So you get an 8 digit code and change the last digit number from 8 to 9 and that code would work too. I bought an S2 this morning and I believe that if they end up honouring the deal for everyone they are going to loose a lot of dollars. Here's why: -
I generated a code at 10.39 am and because this deal was 'too good to be true', I tried to generate another code at 11.48 am to see if it still works. The deal was marked expired around mid-day.
    10.39 am code - XXXX84457
    11.48 am code - XXXX85928

So this tells us that in just over an hour about 1500 codes were generated. (1500*$200 = $ 300,000). Mind you this is only a one hour calculation, this deal was posted at 9.25 am so I believe that would push the figure over $500,000. Also many people reused the same code with success.

Good luck Allphones! Funny thing is that the deal was going to expire on 29th February 2012 but thanks to Ozbargain it did not survie more than 3 hours. I wouldnt really complain if they dont end up honouring the deal. :)

    • +2

You should not calculate Allphones' losses using the amount of discount ($200). You need to subtract the sell prices from the cost prices, which should give a loss significantly lower than $200 per unit.

If AP makes a loss out of this "promotion", they can write it off against their pre-tax profit, so that's another 30% saving.

      • Yes I understand these calculations and that is why I did not write they would make a "loss" of $500,000, rather I was talking about the "$500,000" discount (potential revenue for the company). And if you use the discount codes for phones like Sony Xperia Arc which would turn out to be $185, you would know that they are selling below cost.
Also the numbers I mentioned are not hard facts, this is just assuming that the codes were sequential - whih seems very likely from above comments and the codes I recieved.

    • +1

I am sorry but those calcs are just not right. By your logic, every time Harvey Norman offer $50 of rrp they make a loss. Also, it is well known in math to skip numbers in codes (eg credit card numbers are not sequential). Whilst you may be correct about their sequence, it is pointless to speculate. Also, if the numbers were sequential they could easily have placed an upper limit on it and therefore not issued any more than they were comfortable with.
Either it is a monumental screw up by marketing (marketing = better dressed but dumber sales people) or a scam. Maybe a bit of both.

    • Are you sure the codes were sequential and no check digit?

  • I got the promotion code right the minute this thread was posted earlier in the morning, but while everyone got theirs working/some didnt't i couldn't get mine to work at all - even before the whole promotion 'expired'.

Can it still be redeemed at all by emailing them? Has anyone actually got a response by them saying you can?

    • +2

      From their FB post

"all codes that have been issued and that meet the registration requirements will be honoured there are no.more codes issued if you have your order in the system and ur legitimate and you have entered all details correctly on the amazingdeal site correctly the deal will be honoured we need to check all entries that ate correct then match the code then allow only those codes to be accepted we will get to it and hopefully you will get your phone before xmas stay tuned"

That reads to me: legitimate codes which haven't been used are still redeemable. But that's just a FB post, which could be turn around any minute. I guess we'll have to wait until there's an official email/response either from AllPhones or AllAmazingDeals

      • Thanks for the info mate, saw their fb page, many angry users lol

      • +1

No, that facebook comment says "if you have your order in the system and ur legitimate".

Legit codes that haven't been used, don't have an "order in the system". They are not intending to honour unredeemed legit codes!

        • +2

neg for that coz I'm in this boat……

        • +2

mate, the very first sentence says "all codes that have been issued". I don't have a degree in English, but to me, "all codes" are all codes, regardless they've been used in any order or not.

  • i think i know whats going on. Cuz the codes were not random, ppl were probably just guessing the codes(adding 4 or whatever it was). They want to ensure that all the codes people have/had are actually ones they got after registering and not guesswork.
    Well atleast thats my 2c

    • Well, it should be very simple to pick if people have guessed random codes. You would have received the code in an email from the promoter and that is what will be required, I guess. If you can't prove it and provide that email, your order won't be valid.

      • which is probably what they are going thru

  • -4

Anyone trying and able to go through? seems not working
