You might get a bit roasted as it's not classified as a bargain..

    • by salty apple bois

    • +1

Not only is it not a bargain, its actually bad value for money compared to series x for $250 more.

Games like cyber punk already runs not very well on series S and this is just the beginning. As developers optimize and push series x to its limits, the series s isn't going to run those game very well. This is only slightly more powerful than a one x but cost more.

      • +3

Each console serves a different purpose, so I'm not sure they can be compared directly.

The speed off the CPU and Storage (Processing power, IMO) are pretty close to the same, the real difference to me is the size of the SSD and +4K graphics.

Many people complain about graphics and don't even have a capable screen with 4K +120Hz, and these are currently expensive as hell. (so it's not just the $250 difference in the console, you also have to add up the cost of your new tv/monitor if you want to squeeze all the capabilities). People playing with monitors less than 27” are probably OK with just 1440p +120Hz

Note: cyberpunk is probably a terrible choice for comparison! (of any gaming platform)

And yes… I don't think this is a bargain, just normal RRP

Waiting for Amazon clearance sale as they did with Xbox S…

  • +3

Just call around at your local jb. I did and got a series x couple weeks ago.

    • -8

      The is the Series S

      • +1

        Squeezed way too hard Terry

    • +2

      Sxc… I must have it.

      • Looks like $699 USD for the PS5 and $99 USD for the controller. 😬

A lot of people just spray painted their own.

    • +2

      Wow must have it

    • Just buy the Dbrand covers when they release them

      • weren't they knocked back by Sony and cant make them or something along those lines.. cant remember now

        • Yes, and just read yesterday that now there's another one going to make custom cover anyways, they also published on website pretty much saying "Sony you're welcome to sue us" or something like that. Be interesting to see what happens next 😁

        • Sony said they can’t however Dbrands believes it’s not Sony IP as they have changed the shape of the panels and it has no Sony or PS logo so it’s not breaking any laws, they seem pretty confident it won’t be an issue and Sony has zero legal standing on it. Guess we will see

    • +3

Might even just try to get myself one of those controllers.
The only thing I hate about Sony's new official design is removing the iconic button symbol colours.

      • +1

The black PS5 for $699 USD is about $899 AUD which isn’t too bad considering scalpers on eBay are asking for +$1k for the white one…😃

    • +1

Lol, when there is black Playstation or Xbox, people want white when there is white, they want black.

      • +5

Nah, I've always wanted my console's black. I don't want/need them to stand out, i want them to fade into the background in my darkened room. The PS5 is in a real eyesore from my perspective.
Will be waiting till they release a smaller redesign in black.

  • I’ve got an XSX but wish I got PS5 , hoping they’re back in stock soon

    • +1

would like to know why? as I'm trying to decide between the 2

      • +3

I'm waiting on ps5 also. All xbox games will also be out on pc, so no exclusives I'll be missing. If you don't have pc, then you just need to look at the exclusives and decide from there IMO.

      • Get a PS5(when back in stock). Just a better console, plenty of exclusives, upgraded controller. Just ticks all the boxes. And I'm saying this as an Xbox lover who has a day 1 PS4( and i reckon i have played it less than 10 hours). I bought XSX because I was still using a day 1 XB1. XSX has no new games so it just feels similar to a XBX.
So I would definitely pick the PS5, I chose XSX because I have played Xbox for so many years that the controller is perfect to me. The PS controller just feels foreign and I can't get used to it :(
Unless you get an Xbox for Gamepass I just feel like they have no exclusives you couldn't live without, compared to PS5 with Horizon, God of War, Demon Souls etc.

      • +1

Same here…would like to know why??

    • +10

I prefer XSX over PS5, because of Game Pass and Xcloud gaming, Xbox integration is so much better than PS5.

      • +3

Also the significantly better backwards compatibility and ability to run emulators on it.

PS5 might be better later in the year when there's more exclusives for it (I plan on getting a PS5, not xbox), but at the moment XSX is objectively a better buy than PS5. You can do so much more with it.

    • +5

Why? Game Pass is literally the greatest thing in gaming for many years, it saves you thousands of dollars over the life of a console. I simply can't imagine why anyone would prefer a PS5 on the basis of that alone.

      • +4

My feelings as well, Game pass is a “game” changer

      • +2

Yep, game pass is what made me choose XSX this time around, works well for me with two younger kids as lots of interesting games that i’d never have bough/played with them otherwise.
Eg pikuniku, golf with your friends, spiritfarer, phogs

If I went PS5, yep lots of nice exclusives from PS4 era to catch up on but would be less for my kids to play (I would end up not buying any as so used to game pass!!)

        • +2

think about the cost differential, every single one of MS' 23 studios games are free day and date on Game Pass. What is one PS5 game now, 120AUD or something? Many of us got 3 years game pass for the price of one solitary PS5 game, lol.. there really is no comparison cost-wise or consumer-friendly wise.

          • +1

@Iggemo: Yeah 100%, I had two years of game pass paid up for something like $80.. that’s crazy value and too hard to pass up.

Maybe I’ll get a PS5 mid gen or something once prices come down.

  • +3

Only a matter of time before these drop, they aren’t selling at this price

    • I have the Series X, but the S will give you next gen performance at a nicer price if you don't have the gear to get the most out of the X visually anyway. The S would be a great box if you want to focus on Game Pass. Sub-$500 and Game Pass and you'll be busy for a long time (even though still mostly Xbox One titles still).

      • agree… or even a second unit if you have kids and MS actually incorporate a "family" pass into ultimate sub

      • The small hdd is the issue, upgrading brings it up to the series X price

        • If you have a spare external SSD, the speed is almost the same. Since most Game Pass games are Xbox One compatible, they will run on an external drive.

    • +1

They aren't selling? News to me…. can't walk into every retailer and see these lining shelves…

      • Was 200km out of Adelaide last week in Port Pirie and EB Games tried to sell me one, also had one offered here in Vic. EB guy told me they can’t give the S away everyone wants the X.

        • The people buying consoles right now are the hardcore so of course they want the X

    • With GST & exchange the US price is A$430, that's something I would have considered, but by the time it actually goes down to that I wont be interested until it's A$380 like Canada.

I have a lot of XB discs so I'll stick with the XBOS for now alongside my PC & PS5.

The other thing is the All Access from Telstra, I might fall for that if it goes on sale.

  • +3

With a developer account it also doubles as a decent emulation machine, including PS2.

  • I am fangin for a 599 PS5

  • +5

Having the Series X, with an extra 1TB HDD attached, it really might be worth considering the X over the S purely because you instantly double the storage space if nothing else. It is particularly easy to fill up your storage if you have Game Pass and I can imagine 364GB will be pretty limiting in no time.

Halo MC Collection is like 130GB, RDR2 is over 100GB, GTA5 is like 80GB, Forza Horizon 4 is 84GB and these aren't even "next gen games" yet.

    • +2

However if your use-case is emulation, 364GB is sufficient.
Also, in the future, it you may be able to just swap out the m.2 in the XBSS for a bigger one.

    • +3

You can put some of those games on a USB Hard Drive. Not the Series S/X enhanced games. But GTA5 and RDR2 can play off a normal USB hard drive.

Legit next gen games should have a smaller install. Still gonna be filling up quickly.

Supposedly can store your games on a normal USB drive too. I have an X with a 1TB expansion and 4tb drive for XboxOne games. So i havent had to worry yet. But my kids have the series S and i dont see storage being a big issue when paired with USB storage

OZRRP back instock isn't a deal sorry

  • I wish I had bought that 1TB SSD from Bing Lee for $119.

  • You can use it to play crash bandicoot

  • +1

    How is RRP a deal?

  • Thanks OP, ordered via Click & Collect at Doncaster VIC soon as you posted and picked it up just before store closed at 5:30PM.

Series S will serve it’s purpose for me. The only 4K games I want to play are the next Forza & Halo, which hopefully the later will have a special edition Series X console.

  • If I have to only buy for game pass and few Microsoft exclusive then hos does series s fair ? As I would also be busying PS5 disc version in future when craziness around availability and price settles

    • +1

100% fair. I managed to get both PS5 and XSX at launch. The XSX honestly underwhelmed me so sold to a mate and picked one of these up just for Gamepass and the odd excluve on the Amex deal. I've got a 2TB SSHD attached for backward compatible games.

The PS5 feels next gen, the XSX didn't.

And for those that go on about graphics etc, it's more than adequate. Same with storage, manage games you play and you will be fine.

      • +1

Thanks Buddy! You convinced me to buy this :)

  • -1

Holy crap this thing is so cheap. I'm tempted to just impulse buy it lol. Any one knows what's the usual time frame for this to get discounted? I'm still working on the Phoenix Wright series right now, so I'm sure I can wait one more month.

  • +1

Honestly really hope they bring VR support when Fs 2020 comes to the X series.

  • This is a waste of money and a trap, storage is very small, with gamepass, you will end up buying the proprietary external ssd for $359, which is in the end, more expensive than XSX and less power.

Better save a bit money and buy XSX or PS5, or if your really on a budget, go for PS5 digital.
