    • I've dropped my phone on a few occasions and had no issues using the supplied clear case. The top ends are raised to protect the screen if it falls face down, and the long sides go up to the start of the curved screen. No issues.

Yeah I've been unlucky maybe. Have to use my phone as a PDA for my courier work. And have an extra tough case, but a drop on the corner was harsh….then leaning into the side of my truck with phone in pocket crunched the edge again. Like I say maybe unlucky but my back up note 5 is still perfect and would have handled this type of punishment with better outcomes.
So yeah I'm going to go non infinity edge from now on for my needs

  • Anyone comment on the camera as in photos and video? Yes, I've checked youtube and dxomark and despite being "shitty" 12MP and 10MP cameras that can do 4k they still seem to score very high in quality.

Could be a lot cheaper after the release of S21.

    • Buy with price protection CC?

I had a note 10 plus, totally recommend.

    • What you rocking now?

a note 20 ultra. Please don't judge me too harshly. I don't usually upgrade every gen but my wife managed to get us a really good deal on a plan, so I sold the note 10 plus for cash.

I NEVER would've upgraded otherwise, was really happy with the Note 10 and was planning on having it as my main phone for a few years.

        • What do you think about the comparison between the two?

          • @Bargain-er: Yeah I'm interested in this too

          • @Bargain-er: Camera is definitely a step up on the note 20 ultra but the design isn't great. The camera blister is pretty big.

It's slightly wider than the 10 plus, and imo the 10 is already a little too large to be held comfortably. I have big hands but these are both definitely 2 handed phones.

Apart from smoother refresh rate on the 20, the screens are the same.

Battery life slightly better on the 10.

That's really about it. I like the 20, it's really nice but for the money, I think the 10 has the edge.

            • @Sxio: The camera is better??

              • @soaringphoenix: On the 20 Ultra yes, markedly so. If that was your only criteria, then the 20 is by far the way to go. The camera is very impressive.

          • @Bargain-er: i sold note 20 ultra for note 10 plus. except battery everything was good on note 20 ultra . What really turn me off that $1800 phone needs to be charged twice a day if you are using 120hz (exynos 990 just sucks). what's the point to put it into battery saving mode to get through the day.

            • @Bacha: Yeah I've definitely noticed this as well. I loved how the 10 lasted more than a day, my 20 I feel like I'm always charging it. Also I feel some anxiety leaving the house if it's under 50% as it might go flat.

  • I bought this phone at release and can vouch for the build quality, overall performance and design. This is the best-designed Galaxy phone to-date IMO.

    • The whole look of the phone is great, punch hole cam
and minimal back camera bump. While the infinity edge works well for video, it is a bit annoying when you are using the pen to the curved edges. Everything else is fine.

God damn, I had to replace my busted Note 9 last week and paid $1200 for this. I don't suppose JB have any kind of price guarantee that allows one to get a credit when the price drops suddenly?

    • Certain credit card has price guarantee insurance. Check it out.

Made an account just to comment on this - I bought a canon lens from JB about a year ago a few days before black friday or boxing day, and then JB dropped the price quite a bit during one of these days. Called up the guy who ordered it for me and he gave me a store credit of the difference.

tl;dr: try calling, they might have a 10 days price drop guarantee or something which I managed to obtain.

It's a nice price, but it's also getting a bit oldish and will only get security updates until around August 2022, so factor that in to the TCO.

Also, not having a Qualcomm SOC gives it less options for ROMs.

No 5G, if it had that, then it would also have the Qualcomm SOC….

Besides, I gave up on Samsung long ago because security updates were extremely slow if they arrived at all — has that changed?

I also think that security updates should be for at least 5 years, especially on mobiles that sell in the many millions and are quite expensive outright. The TCO could be so much better and everyone would win; an older phone doesn't become junk from a security perspective as well, so can be used longer without ending up in recycling or landfill. Handing them down is not a great option because they'll be insecure because of lack of updates….

    • +1

Samsung is still providing security updates for the S7, that's an almost 5 year old phone… Yes security updates can be a little less frequent than Google phones, mind you Google cut support altogether at 3 year mark. My note 9 is currently December security patch. I don't know if there's any Android OEMs that are support phones to the 5 year mark? I would be surprised if there's any doing much better than Samsung to be honest.

      • -2

I wish they would very clearly guarantee 5 years of security updates, it would make a huge difference.

        • Does the Android phone you currently have receive 5 years of support? Can you point to other OEMs offering this kind of support?

Actually I doubt it would make much of a difference to be honest. Samsung though have been pushing out around 4 years of support since the S6. It wouldn’t surprise me to see 5 years on S8 and beyond. The S7 may not get any more updates, however Samsung will give it a security update if it something critical. 4.5 years of support is great when compared with any other Android phones from that era, you are out of luck with any other mainstream Android phone that old now and have been for the past 18 months even with Google Pixels that are 3 years plus old.

          • @Ronnnie: Sure, all good… now. But put it in writing Samsung, you will sell a lot more devices.

The most significant thing that Apple does is support devices long term, if Samsung makes 5 years, they are playing catch up.

My old Nexus 6P was a perfectly good phone, aside from needing a battery replacement when Google stopped updates for it; so Samsung has caught up with Google and surpassed them, so they may now be the best option for long term updates for Android, but they still have to catch up on Apple, in terms of updates.

I had an even worse experience with LG, a new phone, albeit on clearance from Aldi, and not a single update from LG at all.

My Nokia 7.1 is nearing EOL, but it's not there yet and it's TCO is very, very low, around $133 [with a JB 20% off sale close to release time] per year with guaranteed security updates for 3 years (the current expected absolute minimum) and a very decent phone. It's not in the class of the Note for sure, but not everybody needs to spend many hundreds per year just to use a high end mobile.

      • All the AU variants of the S7 that I can find at sammobile have ROMs with just Android 8.0 and security patch level Sept 2020 with build dates in Dec 2020. I haven't looked at that site for a long time as I haven't had any Samsung mobile since the S3 4G model i9505) and I didn't buy that directly, it come as a bonus with other goods. The last Samsung I actually purchased was the S3 (i9300) after having the original Galaxy S.

So the S7 is or was getting quarterly updates, but it might be the last one unless it is meant to be in the ongoing updates list….

And the Note9 is not yet 3 years old, released August 2018, so it should surely get updates now.

Mines still going strong after nearly a year and a half. Buy it!

  • +7

Incase other people didn’t realise (like me), this phone comes with a screen protector already installed and a clear phone case in the box.

    • I discovered that too! The JB guy didn't stop me from buying a screen protector either… it was only $5 on clearance though so not too bad!

  • This looks like the model variant, I wish that JB would give full and proper model details instead of just a number that doesn't search well.

    https://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_note10+-9732.php#sm-…

And that shows up to 1TB for the microSD card, whilst the JB listing says up to 512GB.

  • TBH I think that mem upgrade on JB site may be an error as it says the same for the Auro Glow version on their site. I have the non variant and I'm sure mine is meant to be up gradable to the 1TB as per what Samsung were noting on their site at the time. Will need to check. Maybe @Jassssone can clarify for the variant. Mind you 512GB is alot of mem.

  • I ended up biting the bullet on one of these, a nice upgrade from my Note 8!

I used Him/Her gift cards that I got in the December sales/Zip tap and Go promo so int he end it cost me around $730, bargain.

  • Hi guys,
I was told by JBHI rep that note10+ telstra version will not work overseas and it is only unlocked for oz networks! Has anyone experienced this overseas? Or researched it before? If it is locked can it be unlocked through Telstra?
Went to buy it today but this put me off.

    • +3

That doesnt make any sense. It should be unlocked.

      Just bought mine yesterday.

    • I was about to pull the trigger on the Note10+ and I got told the same thing by JB Rep.

      • I checked another JBHI fi store and the rep said it is unlocked and works everywhere. It is a bit of risk but it doesn't make sense at all.
I bought it anyway and I am loving it.

  • OP FYI - If I remember correctly I think I saw 28/1 written on the price tag

  • Went from N20 U back to a second hand N10+ dual sim on eBay for $480. Was lucky I got it for a great price. Will hold off till the N21 comes.

    • Why did you leave the N20 U?

      • Love the phone except battery life. Couldn’t handle how bad it was.

  • $854 here for anyone following who didn't purchase last time.
