    • These are the deals from NBN for the next 6 months.

      • Not the same provider of course, but Superloop and ABB will offer something cheaper within the next 6 months.

        • Maybe for Black Friday in November.

          • +1

@Twix: The earliest could be EOFY in June/July.

            • @KOBH: It's possible. Last year was only $10/month off.

              • +1

@Twix: Sorry to bother you, but my modem doesn't seem to be connecting and I was wondering if you could help.

The modem is TP Link Archer VR500v from Kogan, it was working with Super loop before.

I've attempted to connect via the quick set up several times but I keep getting an error that says: "Internet not connected. Please check if your phone cable is properly connected."

                Any ideas?

Edit: dw I just figured it out. All fixed and connected now.

                • @Adoses: Did you forget to change the WAN config settings?

                  • @Twix: Tbh I just reset the modem and it worked. I think I messed around with some settings last year and resetting the modem seemed to fix any issues.

  • Does this work with OptiComm???

    • NBN only.

  • +1

Thanks OP, just signed up, moving from Superloop HFC, which I've had zeo issues with in 5 months. 250/20 for $109.

    • Essentially what I'm getting. Does that mean that 230 is the current limit on our HFC connections?

      • +1

Mate use PPPoE which means there is some overhead so speeds will always be a bit lower

  • I'm with superloop atm. If I am in the middle of a monthly billing cycle and cancel, do they refund the remaining days or is it best to see the plan out to the end of the month? Cheers.

    • +6

Superloop don't do pro rata refunds. Wait until the end of your billing period.

  • Anyone who's switched over from Telstra HFC? Would I just be able to use the NBN HFC NTU and Telstra smart home gateway? Any other changes that may be needed from my end or would mate handle all this remotely?

    • +1

The HFC NTD doesn't get changed when you change ISP. It's the ISP and router WAN setings you have to check. Telstra smart modems are compatible with Mate. Change the router config from IPoE to PPPoE with your username & password given by Mate.

  • this or ABB for $10 more?

    • This, I have been with them 1 year and I can’t fault them

  • Future broadband on HFC is better with 100/40, most won't need the extra 150 download but you will definitely need the extra 15 upload.

    • Depends what you're doing. Future BB have a $50 startup fee and their HFC service requires a router with VLAN 802.1q support.

  • +5

    I'd rather get 100/40 than 250/25

    • It's $89 or $79 if you bundle a $20 Mobile Plan with them.

      • +1

Im just saying that there are companies giving out free upgrades for 100/40 users to 250/25. Obviously everyone has a different use case scenario, but in my eyes going from 100/40 to 250/25 is actually a downgrade.

If anyone ever forces this type of thing on me claiming it as an upgrade I'm going to be rather annoyed. Onedrive , dropbox, backups, multiple video meetings, home lab server services etc will eat upload bandwidth alive in a household that uses tech heavily.

  • Fantastic deal, mate are so good for home internet.

  • I'm first time user on nbn (fttp), and currently on Aussie broadband black Friday special.

Do people just change companies and ride specials all year? How long does it take to switch?

    • +1

Every 6 months swap ISP to take advantage of the new customer promos. Normally under 1 hour on FTTP and when your new service is live cancel the existing ISP.

    • +1

You can have up to 4 providers with FTTP (different UNID ports). Some people change every 6 months or so to get the new customer deals.

      • Oh wow that's good to know. So you first get connected to your new ISP, then you disconnect your old one and that will free up the old UNID back up?

        • +1

          Yeah that's it.

  • I am with ABB HFC, what happens to my telephone number, do they get ported over too? Thank you.

    • Ported phone & 250/25 is $99/month.

    • +1

VOIP porting takes longer so basically you cannot cancel ABB until the porting of that part is finished.

  • I have not heard negative news for this provider. It's time to try it out.

  • Changed to Superloop a month ago on this [OzB deal recently] (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/601559) so with an anniversary date of 5th March (received their invoice payable on the same date)… the deal ends in August and monthly fee revert back to RRP.

Should I take the plunge over this deal? Has anyone done the same?

  • Is 1 month risk free means if i am not happy and disconnect within 1 month = free (refund $89)?

  • ffs - still paying 99 @ aussie broadband for 100/20. I'm an idiot

    • It's $69 if you bundle a $20 Mobile Plan with MATE

      • I pay $79 (not bundling). If you bundle you pay $89 for home internet and a mobile sim with 8gb.
I’m thinking of adding a mobile later on, but the $15 a month for 18gb and international calls

  • +1

Can't wait until they upgrade FTTC so I can get access to the these speeds!

    • +1

50% of the DPUs are ready for the upgrade. The other 50% of DPUs need to be changed over.

NBN Co has predicted up to gigabit speeds will be possible in its fibre-to-the-curb (FTTC) footprint “within the next calendar year”, though CEO Stephen Rue asked not to be held to the timeline.

NBN Co could have first gigabit-ready FTTC services in a year

      • +1

Fingers crossed I'm in the good 50% 👍😁

        • Hopefully but even if you're not NBN will swap out the DPU and for the lucky ones bypass it with FTTP.

  • does anyone know that if MATE provides Ipv6 for its residential customer for FTTP connection? tried to look for the answer on their website but none is found.

    • +1

Chat to them they are very good

    • +2

Got an answer from them. No IPv6, and no CGNat, a static IPv4 will be provided to residential customer.

  • Not bad. For an extra $10/month MyRepublic are doing 1000/50 for 6 months then $119 afterwards

    • MyRepublic requires an extra $8 per month for a static IP though

  • Hi I am with Aussie Broadband now how difficult is it to switch to these guys and how to do this to not have any downtime

    • If you don't have VOIP with ABB, it is fairly easy. Porting of NBN is quite fast normally. However, you do need to cancel your ABB once the porting is done. That's why the VOIP part take longer, coz. it is a different setup (not really NBN). The VOIP providers can take a few more days to get that part done.

You can contact ABB, the staff will help you.

    • Ring either provider and they will help you step by step all the way it's in their focus to help you.

ABB might even give you an incentive to stay if you try to leave them or tell them about your intentions to leave for Mate.

      Win win situation for you.

    • HFC or FTTP?

  • -1

I'm concerned that "let's be mates" is a little too similar to "let's be friends" and its variations.

  • +2

Any issues with Ping for gamers at peak times? Had to leave superloop because I have been having issues with them lately.

  • Post above says $69 is pair with $20 mobile plan. I'm not seeing this, lowest can get with mobile bundling is $79. Am I missing something?

Also, Cashrewards and Shopback both list cashback options but say no cashback if BYO modem? Anyone have experience with cashback being actually available when don't need a modem?

    • It's $69 a month for the NBN whilst you also pay for the $20 bundled mobile 8GB plan. There's no way to get $79
unless you go on the 50/20 plan.

      nbn plan

I'm on NBN iinet 50 fttp, and iinet have given me 250mbit speed for 6 months for no additional cost, at which poit they will offer me new products presumably at the higher speeds at a higher cost. Measured 270mbit through wifi the other morning, so the speed is there. My current 50mb plan is 79/month.

  • Anyone know how long this takes to get activated once you sign up?

  • Anyone know when this expires? Planning on churning over from Exetel but you have to give 30 days of notice to them otherwise you get charged an extra month which means if I don't want to lose $59 I can't make the switch until the 1st of April.

    • July 31st.

  • wish they had 1000/50 plans..
but will probably drop plans for this price.

  • +2

Was looking at the Mobile+NBN (250mbps)
Choose the $25 instead of $20 for the international calls

If my math is right, its a steal

    Items | NBN + mobile - ($10 Discount)
    6m | $89 + $25 - $10 = $104
    After | $109 + $25 - $10 = $124

  • +1

    One can dream.

I'm on 50/20 nbn FTTN with TPG for $69.99 + $10 landline bundle was hoping to find a $60/month 50 download plan but they are all just temporary 6 month contracts then they go back up some even more than $70/month so I'll just be less greedy and sticky with a sure thing for now.

If TPG goes under then something really bad must have happened.

Not paying over $9000 for a FTTP upgrade and no idea if that will even be capable of gigabit or higher speeds internet or just something like this.

Thanks Turnbull government or whoever was responsible for this mess we could have all been on gigabit speed internet right now but they really did us dirty on this one.

It beats ADSL1 though that's for sure.

    • TPG is the 2nd biggest ISP in AU. FTTP is capable of 1000/400 and has the capability to go much higher with network upgrades.

      • How long do you reckon until Australia receives this https://au.pcmag.com/networking/27140/minneapolis-first-with…

        It's been six years already.

        • 10G FTTP is available in Adelaide. You won't see it everywhere else in AU for a long time.

          • @Twix: Is there some site where I can see where 1Gbps and 10Gbps and higher is available?

What are some spots maybe in nsw or vic with 1 to 10 Gbps?

I am considering moving just for it as I don't really need much else.

  • +1

I just switched to this plan from 100/20
    On HFC.
    Thanks OP

    • Which provider did you switch from? and how long did it take to activate?

  • My address doesnt have 250/25 :(

    • It will sometime between now and the end of the year.

      • REALLY? its FTTC though..

        • Yeah and the Gigabit tier.

          • @Twix: :: SPARKLY EYES ::

            • @lawyerz: Sorry I thought you meant HFC. FTTC is a maybe at this stage. Have you looked at getting FTTP?

nbn Technology Choice FTTP Upgrade Quote $0 (Was $330) @ nbn Co

              • +1

@Twix: yep couple of grand - aint paying that.. its alright ill make do with 100/20 for now…

                no worries thanks anyhow :)

                • @lawyerz: Wish I could get 100 down.. I can get 40 up but only about 60-70 down usually lower than that so it's not worth moving from 50/20 to 100/40 imo.

                  • @AlienC: are you paying for 100 down currently? if you are and not getting the speeds you paid for, I'd recommend aussie broadband. (dont forget referral bonus if you decide to go with it)

i am getting the full 100. used to be 100/40 but prices got increased so was downgraded to 100/20 =/

                    • @lawyerz: I was only and to test with TPG as getting into TPG bundle das a headache.

I want to try with ABB but I have some other person home life issues atm with getting higher speeds so I'll only upgrade when I move out on to a new place and have the whole premise to myself.

50/20 is fine for now but yeah 100/xx would be great but getting my housemates to pay extra for that and move up a plan is a headache and another story.

  • +2

says $79 for me. Thanks op. I signed up last night and am using it today already (had to rapidly source a modem/router!) - on HFC I may add and am getting 229/23

  • Mate dealt with super loop without me having to call them up which is nice. My afternoon speed is 86/21, I probably downgrade my plan in the upcoming days if I can't reach above 100.

  • I signed up to this plan (250/25) and i'm on HFC. i'm running speedtests and i'm only getting around 50mbps
    Any ideas why?

    • I just signed up also and getting 90mbps and I'm on FTTP.

      • Is that 90 using Ethernet, not WiFi? Perhaps your local network is the bottleneck.

        • It's 90 using ethernet. However, I diagnosed that the router that Telstra provides (F@st 5355) only have 100mbps LAN ports. Actually hilarious having my wifi faster than my PC.

    • Same, was able to get 150, but very inconsistent, may call support tomorrow

  • +1

Signed up late last night. Was thinking they would churn me today (currently on TPG HFC), but hasn't happened.

    • I think they have to activate it which would likely happen during their business hours. I signed up at maybe 3pm yesterday. It was activated by 6pm so it should happen this morning. Also preconfigure your router so its good to go.

  • Anyone have a referral link for mate? Please PM thanks

    • Click on the word random under the referral links heading.

      • The referral system appears to have changed since the last time I used it.

      • Sent 2 times no reply :(

  • Not sure if anyone can help with this, I have Nest Wifi and on ABB and superloop I was on 100mbits and was able to get at least high 90 if not 100 on Speedtest pretty much every time (using DHCP mode), however with this I have to use PPPoE and it seems I can only get around 150mbits, just switched today, so not sure if it’s just a day 1 teething issue?

  • Was wondering why it was taking so long to churn, so contact Mate. Apparently the Superfast plan isn't available on my HFC network :( Signed up for the 100/40 plan instead for the same price as my TPG 100/20 plan, so still an improvement. Is the a way to find out when 250 will be available to me?

    • +2

You won't get notified when NBN do the upgrade. Manually check here

"The company expects that by June 2021 over two-thirds of premises in the HFC network footprint will be able to order NBN ultrafast broadband, and it forecasts that by the end of 2021 nearly the entire HFC network footprint should be able to order NBN ultrafast broadband," it said.

      Ultrafast = Gigabit.

      https://www.zdnet.com/article/nbn-jacks-up-750mbps-coverage-…

  • +2

    Thanks, just ordered the 250mbps.

I'm on HFC, just had them check that my connection can handle it prior to ordering.
