Title needs updating to show the $128.80 is for the WF1000XM3S … or add the price for the WF1000XM3B, which is $175.20. It's misleading.

    • +1

      Done, thanks

  • +1

    $128 for the ear buds.

    • got a pair of the buds.

  • +13

    Baited

    • +1

    • +2

yep, these sony product names are so bloody similar, I hate it

    • Yup, have the pic of the wrong item compared to the price advertised.

  • +3

    • +1

      Which gift card deal?

      Edit:nevermind

  • +1

175 even for XM3 refurb is probably the lowest?

  • +3

Is ear wax included? Any surcharge for sticky-ness level?

    • -3

Just wipe the excess wax with an alco wipe

  • Got 2 thanks!

    • 2 of each? nice

      • +6

        Each head or each ear?

        • Made me laugh

  • +5

Are these refubs suitable for gifting ie come in original packaging and sealed?

    • +2

They sometimes do, but may also come in plain packaging.

      • -6

        And ear wax included

  • I'm tempted for the xm4, but:
Long ago I went to JB to check xm3 and at that time felt the plastic quality and ear cup weren't good enough to justify the price. I mean you can poke inside the cup peel alittlr bit the sponge etc etc really not premium at all.

What you guy think? As the price is premium I expect premium quality like Bose sensheiser etc

    • +5

Not my impression, quality seems nice to me.

    • +2

That’s a very strange way to judge quality lol

      • yeah? please poke into the earcup feel the material, lift a bit see whats inside ?

        • +1

If the sound is good, and the comfort is good, it's kinda nitpicky to complain about the foam…

    • I wear mine while doing woodwork and I usually just chuck them in my backpack at the end of the day. (They come with a nice hard case but I don't usually take it with me)

They've copped a fair bit of abuse but they still literally look brand new.

      Not a mark on them.

I used to have the Sony hear on 2s but I passed them on to my sister. They were also extremely durable.

They feel much more solid vs the Bose imo

TLDR: Bought refurbished XM3 headphones from the Sony eBay store for $203 back in October. It's been 5 months and I've sent them back for repair 3 times. I still don't have working headphones.

The refurbished products might be faulty returns. I bought a pair of refurbished xm3 headphones for $203 from the Sony eBay store using a deal back in October. It had loud static like someone was blowing into my ear (not the usual ANC sound) when noise cancelling was on so I sent them for repair.

The original pair was found to be faulty and I got a different pair back. This one was faulty again and just randomly shut off even though it was at 100% battery and could not be turned on for several hours. I sent this pair in for repair and they found no faults and sent it back. It did the same thing again within a day. I ended up driving to the repair centre to show the technicians the problem and they agreed to repair it again. I haven't received them back yet.

Maybe I just got unlucky but just sharing my experience with the community.

    • +3

My experience from Sony ebay is 60/40. From 10 purchase I have returned 4 items. Camera and lenses purchases tho.

I think after 3 repairs you are entitled for full refund, don’t you.

    • +1

Think you have six months to claim for refund on PayPal might be the best option.

    • +4

Same with mine but with speaker. They tried to keep repairing it after 3x I said no just refund. They refused, ACCC steps up and boom full refund. Never again.
Think about your 3x repair back and forth time go to post office, petrol, etc plus the whole annoying experience. Probably worth $500

      • +3

I love Sony products but their customer service is simply appalling.

      • How hard was the ACCC claim?

        • +6

I said to Sony I will go ACCC way they said please do but we don't refund. How arrogant!

I just went to the ACCC website submitted all the proofs and time line of all the 3x repairs.

And weeks later got a call from Sony they are refunding. I almost laughed hard.

      • +1

        Thanks for sharing.

    • +4

I got XM3's refurbished last Ebay sale and they are like new condition, not a mark, and have worked perfectly, came packaged in original retail box with all accessories. Must be a bit of luck of the draw? that sucks mate.

    • +3

Sounds like you got unlucky, the pair I received were in like new condition. Although after reading all these poor reviews about Sony refurb products, sounds like I got lucky lol.

    • +1

I have only purchased once from the refurb store. A speaker which was faulty and they refunded me immediately no questions asked.

    • Thanks for the feedback, That does sound daunting. Not sure its worth the risk, I would have thought they are all tested properly.

      • -2

$135 not worth the risk? Ok more for everyone else to buy

        • Actually $175 and a no. of people having issues. 40% chance of issues. for $175…yeah i think that does sound like a bit of a risk.

          • -5

@lonewolf: You aren't factoring 8% $20 gift card PLUS first time $30 credit on first time afterpay account if you really want me to work it out for you.

It's ppl like you who watch everyone else get rich on the markets, just sayin

But don't let me pressure you into such a high-risk purchase lmfao

            • @FKG: Pretty sure spending money on an item that will depreciate is not the way to get rich, much less if there is a risk attached to the item having issues makes it even less of a rich scheme method….

The 30$ credit is only for people who havent used it already. The 8% cashback is via shopback, I have had some bad experiences with shopback and their cashback, moreso than cashrewards thats for sure. And Cashback again isnt something i look at as the same as a discount. Because it is not guaranteed to get to you especially with Shopback, as well as even if it does, its about 2-3 months later. And you need to remember / keep track to make sure it is all coming back to you and not forgotten or some other excuse given by the cashback store.

Dont get me wrong, if you get an item that works then thats pretty cool. But the risks sounds a bit annoying considering for some of these models, on sales can be discounted pretty well as well. I am surprised that sony refurbished does have this many issues, I had hoped it wouldnt. I was tempted to get the Whxm3 as i have a older model but the risks seem to make it sound like i might as well wait a bit till i need one.

              • -5

@lonewolf: So in other words, you already increased my afterpay stock price with your previous purchases because you're ineligible for the $30 credit, Cheers bro

You also don't trust Sony Australia to repair a faulty item, well I guess that means you never buy from random strangers on marketplace lol

Hint: set a calendar reminder so you redeem your cash in 2 months, not so hard is it?

Perhaps you want to spend money to make money, get yourself a few tools to save time, make money… On your logic you don't buy anything for extra comfort, to save time or make your life easier because well it depreciates!!! LoL

Anyway like I said, more for the time savers and winners to buy 🤪

                • +1

@FKG: I bought a pair of XM3's a few months ago. No issues at all. Indiscernible that they were refurbs other than the resealed box as others have mentioned. Wonder if they just gut everything except the headphone drivers and install them into a new shell? All the accessories and case were almost definitely brand new.

                  • @dattodaniel: This is a classic case in psychology of one bad newstory and everyone thinks a serial killer lives next door

  • Has anyone tried both the 3’s and 4’s and can compare their sound quality? From what I’ve read the 4’s sound a bit clearer, primarily due to less bass. I mostly listen to rock so would you recommend the 4s based on this? Thanks.

    • +1

I haven't tried the XM3s. I have the XM4s and Sennheiser PXC 550-IIs. I listen to a lot of rock too and the XM4s sound really good and are enjoyable to listen to. The noise-cancelling is excellent as well.

    • +1

I have the 4s but could barely tell any difference between the 2 to be honest. Got the 4s as they fit me a touch better and got a good deal.

    • Dude they change those parts for new, duhhhhh or they'd get sued

      • +2

        Especially now with the 'pandemic'

  • Just used the gift card hack to get them new from Wireless1 for $285 : )

    • I bought them secondhand for $163 after using swap 8% shopback $20 gift card hack with afterpay deal

  • +1

I bought some refurb XM3s and they've been fantastic. Came in original packaging and looked, felt and smelled brand new. The only way to tell thy weren't was the cellotape on the box. YMMV

  • +2

Nice, $145 for XM3s with $30 off first afterpay order.

    • +2

Do you need to do anything to get the 30 off or is everyone who signs up eligible?

      • Not sure, I didn't even know I had the $30 off until I saw it in afterpay checkout.

I made an afterpay account a few months ago but hadn't made a purchase until now.

        • Probably another stupid question but does the $30 off appear on the eBay checkout? Or does it show up as an option when it takes you to the afterpay page?

          • +1

@Chthonic: OK I worked this out, it was for people who created an account months ago but never bought anything, they ended up giving people a credit. Anyway its targeted and impossible fmto get if you are just opening an account now, but something to consider if you did have an old completely unused afterpay account

            • @Jackson: Thanks for the heads up I couldn't figure out wtf I was doing wrong.

  • Too manu discounts from afterpay. Not sure what happens next

    • are you the Manu famous chef?

    • +1

forget to pay the afterpay payments and get hit with fees lol

      • Dont they automatically debit your card?

  • No no no !!
    Source- Ex buyer

    • Technically anyone who bought a product is an ‘ex-buyer’?

  • +1

Got these same ones a few months ago. No issues at all with mine, couldn't even tell they weren't new other than a bit of sticky tape on the box as someone said above. Just got some more for the misses.

  • Setting up AfterPay was a breeze. How do you they check credentials on the spot without proper ID.

Also, is it betrayal if you are Z1P investor yet use AfterPay; or as they say never get high on your own produce.

    • +4

      High on your own *supply

  • +1

Why did they have to remove AptX from XM4?

I’m still rocking the XM3 because of this.

    • did you compare and see if the difference is significant? very keen to know

      • They both pretty much sound the same for mine. With EQ adjustments prolly the best sounding NC headphones out there.

  • +1

107 votes, are these headsets really good value compare brand new mx4s is 300

    • +1

      Yes

      • Ta

      • I assume mx3 has better value?

        • +2

Yeah because it is pretty much as good as the xm4s , some would say even better for codecs

  • +1

Are the XM3's good for PC use?

    • I use them on my pc (bluetooth) they are fine for hearing, not great at microphone as they run at a low bitrate for mic

Not sure on cable, but they are a very workable solution. I use them to game, fps, not much competitive use though.

Note; with this deal i just bought the xm4’s, my xm3’s will stay as my pc, (as i used them on the go with my phone) but now my xm4’s will be phone only,
So, im biased, i love sony sound! :)

  • What's the diff between the xm3s and b?

OK that was a stupid question, turns out one is headphones and one is earphones

    • +1

      silver and black I guess

    • S - Silver
      B - Black

Would you guys use the protection plan that you get prompted with ebay?

    • +4

Its very similar to the protection plans they offer at harvey norman, good guys, jbhifi, you're basically paying for something that's already covered under the australian consumer laws.

  • sony xm4b shows as 309aud for me, how do I get the price down to 247AUD? First time buying through ozbargain

  • Awe, cheers mate.
Love my xm3’s and wanted an upgrade but wasn’t gonna pay another $300 for them.
    So, sweet discount. :)

This ones gonna have a lot of convienience features compared to the xm3 :)

  • +1

AVOID, AVOID .. I bought a pair of XM4's from the Sony Australia 'refurb' shop. Maybe I was just unlucky, but the bluetooth kept disconnecting after 5 minutes or so. Anyway, long story short, the Ebay Sony Australia refurb shop was a complete nightmare to deal with. They made me jump through so many hoops. Poor communication, lots of deliberate heel dragging. I had to get Ebay involved and finally got my refund three months later. I eventually bought a brand new set elsewhere and they are perfect.

  • Why are they so many refurbished units? Sound like bad design or component used in the first place.

    • Yep i think there was a widely reported issue with static when NC was on. I think the issue was resolved subsequently but lot of returns from the initial released units i guess.
