It's now been over 6 months since it's been released. Surely there's not still massive stock shortages? How many people are wanting to buy at RRP..

At least retailers haven’t jacked up prices on consoles. Whereas RTX 3080 is still not in stock anywhere after over 6 months and most retailers have 30% mark up on RRP.
Still massive stock shortages. Some people sold their existing consoles (PS4 Pro, XBox One X etc…), old games and accessories. So the out of pocket cost could be $50-$100 (or less). I saw multiple people walked out of my local EB game store with $900+ worth of EB world credit gift card each last year (with the console trade in deals). Normally, you get those cards after you paid off the console and you still have credits. I only managed ~$80 after paying off the consoles (and I paid $150 deposit for both PS5 and Series X). Anyway, it was a good deal for people with previous gen consoles.

Can someone explain why there's no crazy panic to buy these, yet when it's PS5, people are willing to trade their familes for a console? Is it due to the PS5 only exclusives/controller or something?

Real talk though, Astro's Playroom is pretty amazing.
I'm sure it's many things, especially the fact that there are more Sony's out there so it makes more sense for people to buy the console that most of their friends/relatives own.
Stock is a lot better for the Series X than the PS5.
And people are still quite keen on the Series X, still clearing 100 votes for RRP even yesterday.

The PlayStation market is literally two to three times bigger then Xbox.
Some people find it hard to switch brands. Apple, Sony, etc. no matter how good the competition might be.
Gamepass is a very compelling reason to go Xbox IMHO.
Yep, I swapped this generation because of Gamepass. I picked up an XSX before Christmas on the Telstra plan and I've been loving it. Haven't bought any games and completed about 5, played maybe 20+. I really hated the concept of a subscription service for games at first but I'm loving it. Also helps that I'm a PC person too so it covers both my platforms. PC for FPS & strategy, console for platformers, co-op, arcade games, etc.
I'll still probably end up caving and buying a PS5 because I love FromSoft games too much and they'll end up releasing Bloodborne 2 or something on PS5 but I'm safe from that for the time being since they're still working on Elden Ring which is multiplatform.

I resisted gamepass because I disliked the subscription but paid for xbox live lol.
Anyway, got the 3 yearly xbox live cards from the ozb deal at $50 a piece and ended up with 3 years of gamepass for $150. Pretty, pretty, pretty good.
I have a pc and every gen of ps and xbox among others but struggling to find any reason to get a ps5 this gen.
I'm sure that will change when they come down to $399 but I'm in no rush for either console at the moment.
There is a panic, ps5 will always appeal to the general masses to a greater extent though. But this gen is definitely a good one for xbox with gamepass. Swingers like myself are hitting it pretty hard..

Yeah there's been a lot selling for around the $900 - $950 mark on eBay still but just a couple of weeks back it was more $1000 minimum unless you jagged a bargain so good to see those prices falling too, hopefully with this fresh wave of stock these sellers on eBay will have to be even closer to RRP

I have one of these with game pass ultimate (which includes EAs catalogue), it's incredible value by comparison to just buying games (now that i'm older and cbf) and will get better with M$ buying Zenimax (Bethesda, etc) - using it with a LG CX 55 :D

I just called the local EB - they are having a promo where if you traded in Xbox One S (I'm guessing 500GB) together with a single game (doesn't matter what apparently), you get the Series S for $329. [edit] It's showing on the EBGames site carousel now [/edit].
They don't know how it stacks with your EB levels, but it's one way to go.It's a poor trade in value, but YMMV. Considering I bought mine for $299 4+ years ago, it's good enough for me.

So they are giving $170 for a used Xbox One S and a game. Talk about being ripped off.
This is the same EB Games which are listing preowned Xbox One S 500GB for $328. That's more than what they were going for brand new a few years ago.

There seems to have stock everywhere for past 3 weeks that I saw.
No one is getting that over XIt seems more aimed at lower income families, which isn't a bad thing i guess. Still does 1080p

@Spendmore: I know the advertising i've seen has been around it being more accessible for families (i.e. dad playing with child) whereas the series x seems more premium and is typically just about cool graphics and game pass. Maybe lower income is not the right term, but is definitely aimed at the lower end/entry level end of the market, similar to the iphone handset differences.
I'm still seeing stock available for pick up at NSW stores and other states as well.
