  • PSA: Newmarket (QLD) store restocked this morning and have two full hooks of 250s and 100s.

Ive already spent $3k so I just grabbed a couple more. Enjoy.

  • Toombul Qld. restocked and have at least 30 250's.

  • Colonnades SA store has about 15 $100 cards. They're cyan in colour, but the discount still applies.

    • Coles Park Holme SA have around 30 $100 cards only.

    • None in Unley, Burnside and Anzac Highway (next to Kmart)

  • Is it ending today at midnight?

  • +3

Finally, today is the day. Got some at sunnybank Hills, qld. About 5 x 250 gift cards left at 3:30.

  • If anyone interested, Coles Spencer St, Melbourne had plenty $250 left at around 5:15pm

    • Nothing there as at 6.15pm

  • For those who have bought these, anyone tried using them to pay for government fees on the website? I could make a partial payment but the payment portal has a mandatory ‘Name’ field - does that mean this card cannot be used to pay?
There is an option to pay in store at Aus post but am not sure if they allow partial payment.

    • +2

The name is on the card: PREPAID CARDHOLDER

      • +1

I've been putting my actual name.

        • Also fine. Shopback giftcard portal does not ask name at all.

    • +1

Put your mother in law's name and you'll be fine

  • Just out of curiosity, does staff really stick by the maximum 5 cards policy.

I have stuck with the 5 cards in one transaction policy and have never seen anyone else buying when I go. I wonder if anyone has been able to or seen people buying more than 5?

    • 99% of staff stick by the 5 cards policy, you can come back next day thought if there is still stock.

  • If anyone in the ACT is still looking for cards, Amaroo has some $100 cards left on a rack behind the service desk (beneath the display of dummy prepaid phones), plus judging from my conversation with a staff member, there may be still some $100 cards still in boxes.

    No $250 cards at all.

  • $250 and $100 cards back in stock in Coles North Perth. Hurry up :) !

  • -5

Dear twat who cleared the fattest stack at Coles Concord NSW, two can play at this game. Don't want to follow the rules, next time, I will clear it by myself. There was enough for 15 people to buy 5x 250. Gone in a day.

    • -1

      Tissue?

    • 45x $250 side one has $10000 spend on this

      How do you find out?

    • -1

have fun with the 225 cards with $18.70 left in each one of them.

btw your "profit" of $25.70 (257-257x0.9) is wrong. You saved $25.70 but in reality your profit is only $18.70 as the $7 fee is not included as part of a "profit".

      • -2

Obvious you don't know the consolidation tricks . :)
A no brainer one I can share is pay any bill online in as many cards as you please .
More sophisticated ones are saved for the Closed Boys Club hehe .

      • -3

Final count was 286 cards so my profit was pretty accurate.

I don't have any cards with $18.70 on them, as I stated I used them to buy other cards, so i now only have full cards.

        $105 - 10% = $94.50
        $5.50 profit x5 = $27.50.

        $257 - 10% = $231.30
        $18.70 profit x5 = $93.50

As I stated I would at least make $27.50 profit if there was no $250 cards

        • Lol. Did anyone get suspicious of you for returning to the store so many times or did you go to a bunch of different stores to do it?

          • +1

@baskinghobo: I generally went once in the morning before work and again in the afternoon.

I kept seeing the same staff, by the end of the week I had convinced them to all do the same haha.

            • @MrrMagic: When you were buying one card with another, were you only putting through one card per transaction or were you still buying five per transaction and then splitting the payment using several cards?

              • @capslock: Second method is definitely recommended. With the GC complete full payments or in whole amount like $50, $75, $100. Complete the rest of the transaction with your usual debit/credit cards (leftover single digit $ amount and cents)

              • @capslock: Yea mate, I'd have $93.50 left on the last card. Eventually you'd have enough to buy an extra card, once I had 10 cards my wife just followed me in.

        • +2

I don't have any cards with $18.70 on them, as I stated I used them to buy other cards, so i now only have full cards.

So you always split up the payment then? nvm, read below. Well done for the dedication!

    • To be able to do what you said, you would need to go to many coles and find enough stock and a friendly staff that allows you to do that.

      • +1

Yea I was pretty lucky, I have 4 Coles just in my town and another 6 on my way to and from work.

On a few occasions staff didn't care about the limit.

        • how can you find so many cards in Melbourne, it is pretty much all gone within hours and you have to come back a few times. Did you "hide" it and come back to buy? They sure can't have stock everyday.

Your store is not busy? splitting payment takes time and if store is busy back in the queue again also takes time.

          • @samehada: I originally hide 5 cards thinking I would miss out, at that time I didn't know you could buy them using the card.

I had work across Melbourne and regional so I just stopped everywhere along my way. Also my local town had 4 Coles.

            • @MrrMagic: so you can find $250 card everyday for the whole week in Melbourne?

              • @samehada: Sometimes they only had $100's which i also purchased as 5 cards is $27.50 profit and sometimes there was none. Some of the regional stores I pass along daily had full shelves everyday, including last night.

    • +1

I am not sure I really believe this.
How are you paying for fresh cards with cards?

      • -3

You can use the card to buy the next card. I ended up buying 5. Used those 5 to buy the next.

        • -1

So the staff let you manually pump through each card, paying for it with the cards you had already bought, one at a time. 286 times and changing the card you pay with each time?
Nah, I doubt that. Too suss.

          • @King Tightarse: Calling BS on this aswell, no way. There would be some people who would possibly find stock of a dozen or so, but not some made up story like this.

        • At some point you would be left with cards with $18.70.
Question is- did you use those to buy another $250 card (using just over 12 cards), and did you do it at Self serve with split payments? Or even at manned checkouts? If so, that must have taken ages….
If done at self serve machines, does the self serve machine allow that many split payments?

          • -1

@cheapfab: 286 times putting your hand in your pocket and changing cards is far too suss, even spread over a week.
Staff would ban you very quickly
            I am not buying it

            • @King Tightarse: he is buying 5 cards in 1 transaction so it is not 286 times

              • @samehada: He claims he is paying for them with previously purchased cards so he must be splitting the payment.
                But I doubt that.

                • -1

                  @King Tightarse: $1156.50
                  Payment $250, $250 $250, $250 final payment $156.50 last card has a balance of 93.50 used towards a $250 card.

                  2 minutes at the register.

              • @samehada: Someone understands!

          • -2

@cheapfab: The good news is a lot had no need to buy cards with cards .
Main problem was $100 and $250 supply :)

            • -1

@popsiee: Yeah yeah we know your style, you like to come and boast when you make a profit and then NOT share information with other OzBargainers.
              Seen it all before

              • -1

@King Tightarse: …share on ozbargain?!? then get it all shutdown the next seconds…😂😂 you want the best trick then you need to figure it out yourself.

                • @samehada: Yes, sharing bargains and techniques was the original point of Ozbargain
This guy however just likes to boast

                  • @King Tightarse: Yes we all know someone who spins the tale that they caught the biggest fish, or that their manhood is so big blah blah. They never let the truth get in the way of telling a good story, exaggerating whatever it is. Hell, others here could say whatever, like they picked up up millions of these cards, but in the spirit of keeping a nice vibe here lets not throw around stories or numbers to brag or size ourselves up.

                    • @chyawala:

                      • LINK REMOVED - Hopefully this helps.

Although the technique has been mentioned by multiple people so not sure why its so hard to believe.

                      • +1

@MrrMagic: cheers champ, theres another of yours about 40 min ago. legend

                  • +1

@King Tightarse: Obviously you haven't read all post on this topic and seen that i have provided stock levels for multiple stores.

Many people are just curious how many everyone recieved and how they made the most out of it.

By the sounds of it you didn't have much luck with this promotion and are taking it out on people who did.

          • @cheapfab: Pretty much, I made all my purchases at the normal registers as the self serve doesnt allow split payment for these cards.

I used my first 5 cards to pay for the next 5 cards, i was left with $93.70 each time and used that to purchase extra 250 cards. About 5 minutes at each coles 2 minutes at the register making 5 split payments.

            • @MrrMagic: So you say you used five cards to purchase five cards, 286 times (- 5 for the first set) So 281 cards?
And the staff were fine with that?
281 card transactions split and paid with old cards?

      • +1

Just to clarify I orginallly purchased 5 cards, I used those 5 cards to purchase my next 5 cards at the next coles and so on.

I used those $93.70 cards to purchase more $250 cards.

Would of needed to visit coles 58 times over 7 days which is roughly 8 times a day. Considering I have over 12 Coles within a 35 minute drive and 6 coles just along my way to and from work I could have achieved alot more if i had convinced my wife to join me earlier and had been able to find more stock.

Im not sure why I feel the need too prove this considering it has been mentioned half a dozen times in this deal.

        • Well done on making money.
But it's people like you mean heaps of people missed out on finding any stock.
The local stores near me were OOS straight away, they said same people came back many times.
The idea of Coles doing the promo would been to help people out with some savings..
          Some can't help themselves

          • -2

@taoz: I think the Prime Day Sore Loser Monopoly Set sale is over .
            Maybe not hehe .

          • @taoz: 'The idea of Coles doing the promo would been to help people out with some savings..'

Unlikely. The idea of Coles doing this promo was to make money.

            • -1

@DrRalph: How do you think Coles make money out of that promo?

The only value is brand for them out of it.

              • +2

@taoz: It's quite possible they will make money out of this.

Assume 5% of gc get lost or never redeemed.

Then assume that many ppl wih the gcs will shop at coles just because the brand is in the gc.

They have the data to know.

                • +1

@ChaseTheSun: At any given time, 10% to 19% of gift card balances remain unredeemed — and around 6% of gift cards are never even used.

    • How do you have that much time on your hands? Unemployed?

      • +2

Actually im a supermarket store manager :) (obviously not coles)

        • +2

          You're fukcing legend.
I only got 45 in total
          Lol
5000$ profit without tax within a week just checked out arond is worth it

          • @Markbk: If only i got my wife on board earlier i reckon we could have doubled it. Next time this promotion comes ill take a week of Annual leave and travel the state hahaha

            • @MrrMagic: Nice work man.
So are u planning to consolidate them into a reloadable card to make it manageable?

              • @OzFrugie: he has nothing left on card to consolidate.

              • @OzFrugie: I just have a bunch of 250 cards now, ill just use them throughout the weeks instead of my credit card

    • +1

I think I know what you did to be able to get so many. Tbh this is my first time buying these gift cards on a significant scale, learnt how it works on the fly and will be better prepared next time. I netted a nice profit, not as much as yours but it was worth it.

      • +1

You have netted a nice profit and yet you didnt even + this deal! lol

        • -2

Didn't know one had to + the deal to participate? anyway +ing deal is not in my habit.

      • I don't think anyone here beleives their claim, it doen't seem to make sense. Anyway I think its much nicer that no-one needs to do any bragging here if you know what I mean ;-)
For those that went significant scale and paid over a thousand for a total of five $250, that's significant if you know what I mean ;-)

        • +1

Well indeed it could be anywhere between $93 and $5000 ;). Won't throw numbers around, but yeah definitely better than working $20/h.

        • I think these guys have found a way to consolidate the previously purchased cards into some kind of re-loadable card and are travelling around to different areas hiding cards and purchasing 5 at a time but paying for them all at once.

          • +1

@King Tightarse: I don't think there's any special trick to it..
They purchase 5x $250 cards in one purchase ($1156.50) and then pay via split payment with 5x $250 cards previously purchased. Last card would have $93.50 )left over.
Doing this at Self serve raises too many alerts though in my experience(scam watch alert after 3) and then another few alerts as memory recalls, but good on them
Was it done at Self service machines?

            • @cheapfab: 286 times? (- 5 for the first set)
So 281 cards split-paid with Prepaid cards and the staff were just fine with that?

            • +2

@cheapfab: Agree with cheapfab, that's how they did it.

However, the scam alert also applies at the normal checkouts and im just surprised that the staff have not said anything or even tried to stop it.
I have bought gift cards at normal checkouts and have gone through all the alerts and staff have told me about scams, limits per household etc etc!

            • +1

              @cheapfab:

Doing this at Self serve raises too many alerts though in my experience(scam watch alert after 3) and then another few alerts as memory recalls

Yep, three separate alerts/locks (if you purchase five $250 cards), which is annoying for both you and the attendant.

So the next time I did it I deliberately went to a manned counter … and that wasn't an improvement lol. The guy asked went on about scams, if I was sure, if I was really sure, they wouldn't be liable for anything, etc. The machine would have been less annoying 🤦‍♂️

        • +2

I wouldn't call it bragging considering we are trying to explain the process so YOU can do the same next time and make these cards for free with little effort.

          • @MrrMagic: So 281 cards split-paid with Prepaid cards and the staff were just fine with that?

            Sure mate, sure

            • @King Tightarse: Well yea? Im not sure what you are confused about.

Between 266-293 cards that 58 or so visits to Coles, 14 different coles across 7 days, Do you think i have been served by the same person?

What are staff going to do? All they need to do is make sure you dont purchase over 5 cards and give you a scam alert. They arent recording your details to check if you have already visited.

Hence why alot of people visited the same store multiple times.

          • +1

@MrrMagic: it is not little effort, many staffs are strict with the limit and some are stupid and not allowing to pay with Coles MC prepaid card and keeps insisting on this is giftcard, can't really argue with those idiots. Splitting payments also takes time and more importantly no stock. So to be able to get that many you are lucky and it is surely not little effort.

            • @samehada: I was very lucky my local coles were pretty much always full, only issue I had was the 5 per customer.

Yes I did get the gift card payment comment a few times from staff, for those who questioned it I just told them it doesnt apply to VISA and MASTERCARDS, they still believed it would decline and were very suprised when it approved. I knew what worked and just got into a habit of swiping my card, im not sure why its their business to know what type of eftpos card you are using.

I hope you were able to some cards.
