It's funny how there are certain words that conspiracy theorists use….probably the most commonly used one is 'sheeple'

The irony is not lost to most people that ALL conspiracy theorists use this word….and they all think they're being original

          • +7

@slipperypete: Are we still saying "Conspiracy theorists?" I thought they were just "spoiler alerts" by now. :P

            • @IdBuyThatForADollar: Ha ha yeah I'm still saying conspiracy theorists.

Now here is an interesting thought…..

I don't think all anti vaxxers are conspiracy theorists but I can guarantee ALL conspiracy theorists are anti vaxxers

Lots of people are skeptical of vaccines but the conspiracy crew will always jump on the bandwagon because their fav youtube channel tells them to be so

Not saying that is 100% true but just my thoughts

          • +1

            @slipperypete:

and they all think they're being original

You know what all people think? Does that keep you awake at night?

            • +5

              @1st-Amendment:

You know what all people think?

Nah just conspiracy theorists…..they haven't an original thought in their body!!

They fall for every single thing their favourite facebook page or youtube channel tells them.

Not saying there isn't a place for them or that some things need to be scrutinised but they are all SUCH A BUNCH OF PARROTS in their language and thinking

Does that keep you awake at night?

No but it is entertaining to read their comments when I get bored of watching cat videos

          • +3

@slipperypete: The irony, of course, is that they are the sheep, blindly following the most misinformed, nut bags on the internet over sound medical advice.

          • +1

@slipperypete: and they think they 'think for themselves', lol!

        Does Sputnik count?

        • +14

Yes, but you only receive 60% of the newsletter.

      • +2

This is discrimination against a minority (20%)!

        • Just because someone will take you seriously lol. No it's not. There are plenty of limited redemption offers.

          • +3

@incipient: Haha, I was kidding but your reply would not address it anyway. The last 20% will probably be immunocompromised people and minors, technically a minority (no pun intended). The 80% clause is not your usual "first in best dressed" fine print.

            • +1

              @bio: Ahh true.

Would be the same as someone that doesn't have a high enough salary to be eligible for a credit card points offer.

            • +1

@bio: We are vaccinating our leukaemia and Aids patients. We are giving second doses to people who had potentially deadly anaphylaxis to the first dose. I do not think you will find the people who medically can not be vaccinated to make up anywhere near even 1% of the adult population.

              • @DisabledUser229012: Anti-vaxxers are a minority as well and they should not be discriminated. /s

              • +1

@DisabledUser229012: I agree with the overall sentiment of your statement, but there is absolutely no way we are giving people their second dose if they had anaphylaxis or a serious allergy to the first dose. That would be extremely dangerous.

Other than serious allergy, there are essentially no medical reasons not to have a vaccine. There are reasons to get one vaccine over another, but close to no reasons to get no vaccine.

                • +1

@grant17: Further to that, if someone did have a serious allergy, they will be referred to the Special Immunisation Service (or the non Vic equivalent to this) to make a plan regarding vaccination. They would very likely to be able to receive another covid vaccine based on their advice.

                • +1

@grant17: Well we absolutely are. The immunology department at the Royal Brisbane for example is running a clinic exactly for that. It is risky, but it's managable and we want them successfully vaccinated. The tricky part is dampening the excessive immune response to prevent the severe allergy, but not in a way that will interfere with the effectiveness of the shot. Source: Me having discussed this directly with said clinic after dealing with someone having anaphylaxis from their pfizer shot. At that time, the plan was still to give a second pfizer, not an alternative vaccine. Times may change but that's how it was a few weeks ago.

To clarify, I'm not at all saying you should just go to your GP for a jab if you've had a serious allergy to the first! Apologies if that's how it came across. You need specialist immunology input.

      • +3

I think that this is a great idea and appreciate the intent to encourage people to be vacinated.

I read see some comments up above of some numpty about "legal action".

I'll be watching this space closely but if does not land you in hot water I'd be looking to do something similar.

    • In most states, anyone over 16 is eligible to get the shot, what's the issue?

      • Not disclosing here..

      • Possibly from a state that isn't included in "most"

      • +1

People who are undergoing treatment that compromises their immune system, like chemotherapy, is one example.

        • +5

I work in aged care and have a client who’s undergoing chemotherapy for bowel cancer and has received his shot of AZ… they just gave it to him a day or so after.

    • +9

How about people like me that are keen to get the shot but they can't yet???

Everyone 18+ can book for the AZ…….

      • -13

        Not really. Get informed.

        • +8

Yeah nah, you might need to go 'get informed'.

          • -1

            @JimmyF: Ok ignorant. Cheers.

            • +2

@ets27: I'm ignorant? You're the one claiming you can't get a vaccine, which is untrue.

              • @JimmyF: Yes and arrogant too. You don't know my background so just don't say anything.

                • +1

@ets27: So I've moved from ignorant to arrogant now? Cool. Still doesn't chance you are the one making false claims that you can't get a shot. Which is totally NOT true.

How about people like me that are keen to get the shot but they can't yet???

So rather than attacking people, do tell us then, why you can't get a shot?

                  • -3

@JimmyF: I am not disclosing medical info to an arrogant that knows my healt condition better than me.
Use Dr. Google and you will find your answers.
                    bye.

                    • +2

@ets27: I googled it and Dr Google said you have no health issues that would stop you getting a vax.

Anyhow, roll the dice with covid, its your choice.

        • +2

Sorry you're getting downvoted, ets27. And I'm even sorrier if you have immune response issues due to a health issue. I hope you stay safe.

          • @Sabs: Thanks.
It would be nice if the above would understand but I believe it is impossible.

          • -5

@Sabs: Sounds like even more of a reason to get the vax then.

            • +2

@JimmyF: Seriously, dude? People who are undergoing chemotherapy essentially have their immune system wiped out. They CANNOT mount an immune response. Getting vaccinated is pretty much pointless because they will not gain any immunity from the disease.

              • -1

@Sabs: Yes seriously dude… Who would know what there issue is, as they keep saying……. They are Not disclosing here.. why they can't get it for whatever reason.

So all we can only assume is tHeY DoN'T WanT iT as 18+ can get it without questions.

                BTW https://www.canceraustralia.gov.au/covid-19-vaccine-and-canc...

                and

                https://www.health.qld.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0024/10...

Therefore, it would be recommended that patients with cancer should receive the COVID-19 vaccine, as stratified by factors such as age and clinicians should not hold or pause cancer directed therapy for vaccination and only if feasible, time first dose of vaccine in between chemotherapy cycles, and away from nadir period.

                • -1

@JimmyF: I don't want to argue about this with a layperson. You'll find most oncologists are not recommending vaccination for patients currently undergoing chemotherapy because there is little high quality evidence to suggest it's worthwhile, even if it's considered "safe". As I said, patients with a compromised immune system cannot typically mount an adequate immune response, depending on certain individual factors.

                  • +5

                    @Sabs:

I don't want to argue about this with a layperson. You'll find most oncologists are not recommending vaccination for patients currently undergoing chemotherapy because

You're not arguing with a 'layperson' about this, you're now arguing with cancer australia gov website and the qld health websites I linked above, which is what your 'oncologists' source their information from. Which clearly say they recommend that patients with cancer should receive the COVID-19 vaccine doses in between chemotherapy cycles.

                    • +1

                      @JimmyF: how condescending

not all immunocompromised are able to receive the vaccine. it depends on their specific risk profile

                      https://immunisationhandbook.health.gov.au/vaccination-for-s...

                      • -2

@renlireb: Considering ets27 hasn't SAID why they can't get the vax, and Sabs just pulled some random health issue out of the air. Who are you to say who is condescending here.

Too bad your 'supporting' link doesn't say a single thing about the COVID vaccine…..

                        Try this one

                        https://mvec.mcri.edu.au/references/covid-19-vaccines-in-peo...

                        First sentence says

COVID-19 vaccination is recommended for all people who are immunocompromised due to the increased risk of developing severe disease if exposed to SARS-CoV-2. All COVID-19 vaccines in Australia are inactivated (non-live) vaccines

So yeah… or are you going to say the Melbourne Vaccine Education Centre has no idea what they're talking about as well?

                        • +1

@JimmyF: clapclap you can read a couple of sentences from a webpage while ignoring the rest of the page hahahahaha

The following guidance encompasses a broad group of conditions and therapies, as well as providing specific recommendations and/or links where available:

first of all, your own link indicates that it is a guidance for a broad group of conditions and therapies. this already implies that there will be edge cases where the recommended advice does not always apply.

                          secondly, but more importantly,

Administration of COVID-19 vaccine should be planned with the treating specialist and in some instances, the timing of immune suppressive therapies may be altered to increase the response to vaccination.

if you've read the links you've posted, the overlying theme is that any vaccination for immunocompromised patients should be in consultation with their physician. maybe, just Maybe ets27, whom explicitly mentioned that it is a health condition and seems to be in frequent contact with their physician, has already had this conversation and was told that the vaccine was not currently recommended due to their condition/treatment (seeing their earlier post where they are receptive to a vaccine but cannot take one yet).

do you know their treatment regiment or their health condition? who are you to say that they can take the vaccine right now?

(profanity) me you are arrogant. i mean, good on you for recommending people to take the vaccine, but holy shit, get over yourself lol you aren't their doctor

                            @renlireb:

do you know their treatment regiment or their health condition? who are you to say that they can take the vaccine right now?

If you cast your eyes back over the thread, ets27 story changes. The thread starts here https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/10862260/redir

ets27 claimed they are keen to get it but can't get it yet. I pointed out anyone 18+ in can get AZ (they are in NSW), the story changed to Not really. Get informed, then calling me ignorant, then arrogant, as I disagree with them saying they can't get it when the they can. The story changes yet again to I don't know their background, then finally to a health condition stopping them from getting it.

Odd at the start of the thread, they claimed "keen to get the shot but they can't yet". Which is code for waiting for pfizer as they are keen to take a vaccine if was was available to them.

(profanity) me you are arrogant. i mean, good on you for recommending people to take the vaccine, but holy shit, get over yourself lol you aren't their doctor

Neither are you anyones doctor here, but here you are giving advice just like the rest of us.

immunocompromised patients should be in consultation with their physician. maybe, just Maybe ets27, whom explicitly mentioned that it is a health condition

As I've said, ets27 hasn't said what the issue is.

Most people who claim a open ended 'health condition' without detail for not getting the vaccine are normally the same people that claim 'medical condition' for not wanting to wear a mask.

Honestly Its ets27 choice, take the vaccine or don't. I don't care, just don't make false claims its not available when it is.

                            • @JimmyF: first of all, there's no changes in the story. while anyone 18+ is eligible for the AZ shot, not anyone can get the shot. like it has been pointed out by multiple other people, there are groups of people where they cannot, such as the immunocompromised. in these cases, the physician should be their primary contact for their immunisation status - not you lol

                              consider yourself informed now?

Odd at the start of the thread, they claimed "keen to get the shot but they can't yet". Which is code for waiting for pfizer as they are keen to take a vaccine if was was available to them.

                              ???????????

what is this "code" bullshit ahahahaha

Neither are you anyones doctor here, but here you are giving advice just like the rest of us.

i did not give advice? i'm telling you that, if anyone knows best of their own health condition, it is the thread starter in conjunction with their physician. i suppose if they're looking for advice, then i'd say for them to listen to their physician and not some professor of google. imagine having this person tell their specialist: "nah you're wrong because JimmyF on ozbargain with the updated health.gov link said so".

As I've said, ets27 hasn't said what the issue is.
Most people who claim a open ended 'health condition' without detail for not getting the vaccine are normally the same people that claim 'medical condition' for not wanting to wear a mask.

holy shit, can you be any more insensitive? not everyone wants to make their private health conditions known on a forum for bargains.

i dont even know how to answer the rest of this garbage. like you've said, i dont doubt that some people will make the claims you've highlighted, but for whatever reason, you've assumed that ets27 was part of this group of people.

nah dude, what i see is JimmyF doubling down multiple times and refusing to acknowledge the edge cases where the vaccine may not be recommended.

i empathise with ets, because the covid pandemic can be extra scary for people that cannot take the vaccine.

                              • @renlireb:

like you've said, i dont doubt that some people will make the claims you've highlighted, but for whatever reason, you've assumed that ets27 was part of this group of people.

So you agree people make these claims, but clearly it couldn't be anyone that posts on ozbargain.

like it has been pointed out by multiple other people, there are groups of people where they cannot, such as the immunocompromised

and it has been pointed out this is rarely a reason to stop anyone getting the vax.

This person has NEVER claimed to be immunocompromised, that is the anti vaxes jumping in claiming 'reasons' on their behave.

as you double down to claim this person is a 'edge' case without any knowledge.

Heck even people undergoing chemotherapy for bowel cancer are getting the AZ.

You can empathise with someone who is waiting for pfizer all you like. As I said that is their choice, just don't spread FUD saying a vaccine its not available as this is just not true.

@JimmyF: this is the situation that is being played out:

we have someone that literally said "what about me who's keen to get the vaccine but cannot yet"

                                  you: "yes you can"
them: "no i can't, don't want to elaborate on my personal health issues"
you: "you are lying and you just don't want to get the vaccine here's some gov info"

and it has been pointed out this is rarely a reason to stop anyone getting the vax.

perhaps consider that not everyone goes through the same treatment regime? like it's been stated earlier that you've conveniently neglected - perhaps the person's physician knows better to when would be an ideal time to get the vaccine?

mate, i'm all about the go get your vax, took the az when i'm eligible, for vax-passports, for snap lockdowns since vic early 2020, tell my eligible mates that there's no issue etc etc.

it's not even FUD, there's nothing anti-vax with what any of them have said regarding vaccination + being immunocompromised. instead, you've just been decrepit flog towards ets+multiple others for no just reason. accept that not everyone currently can go get the vaccine.

You can empathise with someone who is waiting for pfizer all you like.

@Sabs: This statement is incorrect. I can see your intentions are good, but before chastising others to “educate themselves”, I suggest you do the same.

              • @Sabs: Was not aware - but shows that we do need to be aware of this demographic.

      • The bulk of general practitioners will repeat the ATAGI advice to any young person who asks, which is that the risks of the AZ vaccine outweighs their individual risk factor of Covid and that they wouldn't recommend getting it if they can wait. That advice changes if you're in a hotspot due to the increased risk factor, but the medical advice for the bulk of young people is that they should wait.

With supply increasing of Pfizer and Moderna, it's possible that those young people will be fully vaccinated quicker than if they get the AZ vaccine now too. You can decrease the time between doses, but that reduces efficiencies and nobody knows when boosters will be available to that cohort.

        • That advice changes if you're in a hotspot due to the increased risk factor, but the medical advice for the bulk of young people is that they should wait.

The profile said they are in Sydney, so clearly a hotspot area…. They can get AZ if they really want a vaccine now. Pretty much anyone in VIC/NSW (and QLD to a point) over 18 can get AZ if they ask for it.

With supply increasing of Pfizer and Moderna, it's possible that those young people will be fully vaccinated quicker than if they get the AZ vaccine now too.

Honestly hard to say, you are gambling by waiting a month to see if you can get a mRNA vaccine spot. Every state wants mRNA vaccines for its people, so it is a question of do you take the one you can get now vs waiting.

    • Maybe you can't yet, but many can but decided to wait for Pfizer, Moderna, or for the cohort study to be released in 2027.

Consider this as the Uber Eats vouchers, or any other deals that are not available for everyone. I get very frustrated every time I am not eligible for the discounts, but that's life. It's not like you can't live without the Sizzle subscription.

wow same comment as dannyc33 yet it's got positive votes. ozbargainers are a complicated bunch

Go get the AZ, it's open to anyone via your GP.

      Anyone can get a vaccine.
No excuse to say it's not available

      • -2

another arrogant. I never said it is not available. I said I cannot have it.

        • +1

Nah mate, you said you can't get it yet.

          So don't talk in riddles.

          If you want it, you can get it;
if you don't want it, that's fine go for your life and miss out.

  • +5

What if we are ineligible at the moment or have very long wait times to book in? Bit unfair

    • +61

The offer isn't expiring any time soon. It's long running until 80% of Australians are vaccinated.

      • +7

        Awesome, appreciate the reply

      • +7

LOL. So it will never end then.

        • +9

If you are right, and I hope you are not, we might have to wait until the unvaccinated die so the proportion of vaccinated reaches 80%. That might take longer but is probably the natural course of the pandemic.

To everyone who doesn't like what I just said, get vaccinated and prove me wrong after you neg me.

          • -31

@this is us: Sadly the opposite is true. What's happening in the UK demonstrates a greater proportion of the vaccinated (I forget now, but it's up around 70% or more) are now the super-spreaders of covid. Even double-dosed individuals. The reality is in direct contradiction of the claims of our government. i.e. The vaccines are providing no discernible reduction in symptom severity or deaths, plus there's the additional adverse reactions in individuals whose risk of being harmed by covid was close to zero before the vaccine.

But government knows propaganda is a powerful tool, and Australia always seems to be two months or more behind the rest of the planet. What I don't understand is why a nation who hates politicians so much, has learned to distrust them with everything else that is LESS important, and where the saying: "Couldn't organise a chook raffle or a root in a brothel" originated, suddenly trusts their health to a bunch of inept clowns running the current circus. Especially with an untested, experimental vaccine, that so many in the medical community (who usually sprint to take every other vaccine) are abstaining from due to the adverse events they're seeing in patients.

            • +27

@Faulty P xel: What you failed to say was, yes vaccinated are still spreading the virus, however it is only the unvaccinated people who are dying from it. The COVID vaccination doesn't stop from getting it, it helps to prevent you ending up in ICU……

              • +7

@the-fuzz: I agree. It also helps the Hospitals from becoming overloaded, there are only so many beds/workers available. If my elderly Father had a heart attack I would want a bed for him to be available rather than it be given to a selfish anti vaxxer who now has COVID-19 and is in ICU!!

                • -12

@joshka: The hospitals aren't overloaded now, and weren't overloaded in the MONTHS BEFORE there was any vaccine either. The non-logic of you people is amazing.

                  • +10

@Faulty P xel: WOW!! Where do you get your information. I'm really finding this hard to reply to because of the ignorance of your post. I work in an ED at a major Hospital and have done so on and off for for the last 35 years!! I also have constant contact with smaller hosptials, Medical Directors etc. No disrespect intended but I think I would be more educated on the staffing levels at Hospitals that you. We have had Hospitals on Code Black numerous times. Dr's and Nurses have been doing double shifts for months/years and are so tired. Have you heard of Ambulance ramping? My goodness, I really do feel sorry for you and the rabbit hole you have fallen into. Go into an ED, the wating times are horrendous alot of the time due to being overloaded.

              • -22

@the-fuzz: What bullshit. Get on Telegram where all the doctors, nurses, nursing home staff, etc who have been banned off Facebook and Twitter are sharing their horror stories. I'll make it easy - look only for posts about the UK and Israel.

Also what YOU failed to say was people are being injured, even dying from the vaccines, who otherwise would never have known they were infected, or died, from convid because the average age convid death in Australia is 85 years old! Btw, the average life expectancy in Australia is 83.

Young people are losing half their face movement (Bells Palsy), people losing their LIMBS due to taking a vaccine that most healthy people don't even know they have. Meanwhile effective prventatives and treatments are being banned in favour or that same awful vaccine!

ARGH… So sick of clueless people regurgitating the government's false narrative thinking they're God's gift to immunology. TAKE YOUR BLINDERS OFF and stop spreading the real conspiracy theories.

                • @Faulty P xel: If you die from covid because you refuse to get the vaccine, it will be best for the rest of us

              • +1

@the-fuzz: This is just false. Double-shot vaccinated people have died from COVID-19.

            • +19

              @Faulty P xel:

The vaccines are providing no discernible reduction in symptom severity or deaths

Patently false. Most hospitalisations and deaths are among the unvaccinated.

              • -5

@buthidae: This is just an outright lie. I don't watch TV. Is that the bullshit they're spreading?

they get all their news from telegram groups. Clearly more rigorously fact checked than our brainwashing mainstream media alternatives.

                    • @SBOB: Is telegram an internet euphemism for the lowest part of the alimentary canal or just another cesspit where conspiracy theorists like to hang out? There are plenty of reputable sources of information on covid-19 outside the mainstream media. Faulty P has been alerted to them many times but doesn't like the fact that they challenge his fake reality - like millions of Trump supporters did and still do, for reasons best known to themselves. That said you have to be particularly unreceptive to reality not to have witnessed the carnage in Europe and the UK for example.

              • @buthidae: This is the best falsehood I've seen yet.

Faulty to be a good 'alternative thinker' it pays to pick the evidence which is harder or takes more digging to disprove. Ideally it should align to a partial truth which makes it tougher for lay-persons to detangle from the bs.

Let me know if you'd like some mistruths to get you started.

            • +7

@Faulty P xel: Your data on spreading is correct, your data on severity of symptoms is not.

Double check the UK papers you're researching are peer-reviewed.

There is a significantly larger separation between hospitalised cases, and infected cases among the vaccinated.

If anything, covid has given us nerds an amazing new lot of data to sift through each night.

              • -6

                @MasterScythe:

There is a significantly larger separation between hospitalised cases, and infected cases among the vaccinated.

This statement is 100% false too. If you don't know why, you've done less than 2% of the research you need to. And again, no, I'm not going back through months of information to find it for you only to have you then bring up another, and another, and another.

                • +1

@Faulty P xel: The data all says you're either mistaken or so bound up by your conpiracy theory illness that you can't face basic facts. Feel free to produce reputable data showing that any of the current vaccines aren't significantly reducing hospitalisations and mortality rates. Should take you half an hour at most. While you're there see if you can find that elusive Fauci reference to masks and the Spanish Flu. Pigs will have pilot licences before either of those occur.

@tdth99: The irony is there are now anti-vaxxers dying from covid because they refused to get vaccinated and their family members pleading others to get vaccinated, which is sad that it had to take one of their loved ones to die in order to be correctly informed

                  • -13

@Adz12: I've done heaps of work for lazy people. They don't respect the effort and stubbornly cling for grim death to the first thing they find that confirms their bias, while discounting other equally-reputable (or superior) sources. Most don't even even look beyond the headline, not even one layer into the surface of what they found. e.g. One article may draw it's conclusion from a set of data where cases and deaths get reported weekly, but adverse reactions or deaths from vaccines are not reported until 90 days in the future. Resulting in a false picture.

I've come to realise teachable people are prepared to put the effort in themselves. I've also learned the ones who bleat "Spoon feed me!" invariably cling to their bias no matter what size mountain of evidence they're shown. They also never learn critical thinking skills. Aimless (or stubborn?) sheep determined to be led to the slaughter, blindly trusting government more than their concerned peers. The same government who steal then waste our wages, do back-room deals, cover up all sorts of corruption, protect child molesters, etc and with this current situation, silence much of the medical community with threats of de-registration, dictate most of what the media relates to the public, so the one-dimensional-thinking sheep bleat: "But government, media, and experts are all saying…" That's the time alarm bells should be ringing.

With this coNvid thing I've watched teachable folks research, learn, then present facts… all of which draw arrogant eyerolls. Then months later government and mainstream media finally start saying some of the same things. But THEN it's real for the sheep, who are in awe how 'wise' the media/government are, and start baaaing along saying it too. While the people who have been saying it for 18 MONTHS stand, jaw agape, shake their heads, and return to being months ahead of them.

If however you are honest, a teachable person who can think for yourself, PROVE IT. Install Telegram (because it's not censored by government/big tech). Search for some keywords like covid, vaccines, whatever and join a few groups NOT in agreement with your personal bias that catch your eye. Most are posting the same info, just hours or days apart, so only a few will do. Don't be the complete idiot who says, "They quoted Pauline Hanson or Allan Jones or Craig Kelly, so nup!" That's a definite sign of brainwashing - someone so fully indoctrinated they can't bear to wean themselves off the government teat even one milimeter.

Ignore most of the memes and silly crap like the parasitic flat earthers, Jew haters, new-agers, and Q-tards because they infect ALL social media. Actually fact-check claims/articles that state things you haven't seen in the media, heard from government, but especially those cited from the CDC, TGA, etc. You'll soon start to "know what you don't know", see one dimension deeper, realise the media and government exaggerate, omit, or outright lie to us about from THE SAME sources.

If anything, one could easily find telegram users that blindly shout out "moon" without knowing much about crypto FA & TA. Do we actually expect telegram be filled with genuine docs and nurses?

                          • @Jojo-Ma: Funny how I haven't come across a real doc (or nurse) in person who speaks this dribble?
