  • Nice deal, would be interesting to see what this is like after MIUI 12.5 Enhanced Edition. Devices like this and the Poco F3, have had issues with MIUI before.

    • Running great. Havent had any major miui glitches other than minor issues changing lock screen wallpaper from 3rd paty apps

  • +10

I received mine last week, it's a great phone for the price, blue colour looks amazing, looks like an expensive phone. Tomorrow I would finish MIUI's stupid 7-day waiting period before I could unlock the bootloader so I can flash Xiaomi eu ROM. Happy days!

Edit: AU Direct shipping was good enough, the phone landed in sydney within a week but was unfortunately stuck there for about 2 weeks due to COVID.

    • +1

What's the Xiaomi EU rom you speak of?

      • +3

all the goodies added and removed, no ads, less bloat etc

        • +4

I'm on miui 12.5 and don't get ads, so not sure what you mean there? I also havent had to remove any preinstalled apps either, any ideas what apps they remove?

        • +2

Been using Xiaomi phones for years and have never noticed "bloat" or ads created by MIUI.
You get plenty via Google and Playstore apps though.

      • I'm using my wife's Poco X3 Pro after buying the Samsung S21 5G 256Gb for her for A$674, OZbargain special. ;^)

I was having issues with an alarm app I've used for years using the X3 Pro as the stock MIUI OS was stopping it from running if I rebooted phone or shutdown the app, it was an older app that hasn't been updated for a few years.

I went back to the stock MIUI OS 12.04 and the alarm app was running flawlessly until I intentionally updated the X3 Pro to 12.5.4 to see if an update caused the problem.

I installed a few OS but have settled on ArrowOS with TeamWRP recovery, alarm app again runs flawlessly and mobile is very stable and smooth. Considering if I install OrangeFox Recovery.

P.S.: I had to wait the 7 days to unlock bootloader but it was worth it, I couldn't have used the X3 Pro if it didn't run my alarm app.

        • Do you have intermittent wifi no internet issue with your poco x3 pro? do you use wifi mesh or just a single wifi router network?

          • @Telstar220: I think someone posted a fix for this on one of the Poco deals that was posted recently…

    • +1

How difficult is to unlock the bootloader in order to flash Xiaomi eu ROM for a non-techy person? What's the process?

      • +3

It's painful…. Only because Xiaomi has intentionally made it harder for people to unlock. I wouldn't recommend going this path to a non-techy person.

Edit: for the process, look here: https://youtu.be/pByHHTvms4k

        • +1

Thanks. In that case, do you recommend any other brand/ model which has a clean UI, meaning no need of this hassle? How's MiA3 (which has Android One)? Not sure if there has been any version after MiA3 though in that series.

          • +2

@virhlpool: I wouldn't go with Mi A3 as its nearly 2 years old now.

If you are in the market for a new phone I would still look at getting Redmi Note 10 Pro and stick with its default ROM, it's not bad at all, I haven't noticed any ads or pop-ups as it used to be with a lot of Xiaomi phones in the past. I think they have improved significantly and MIUI has come a long way.

Your next bet could be POCO F3 which is close competitor to the Redmi Note 10 Pro.

      • +1

No better time to become a tech person. The unlocking, flashing and rooting process (hmm that sounds odd to write) is pretty easy, even on xiaomi devices, it just takes a little while because of the arbitrary wait time.

      • Quite easy to unlock bootloader using Xiaomi's own unlocker but you'll have wait the nominated delay, most probably 7 days.

    • Have they fixed Bluetooth absolute volume yet?

Annoying it doesn't work on MIUI 12

  • i got the redmi 9 pro. do i upgrade? for the 120hz panel?

    • Do you game? Not much of an upgrade.

Redmi note 11 was released recently, maybe wait for 11 pro.

      • I don't think the Note 11 is released yet

    • +2

so many phones now coming out with 5G wait unless you need it now ….i have 5G, not vast coverage unless i’m in the office (no 5G at home) but where it is it’s a sweet indication of the future …..

  • Can this hold 512GB micro SD? Thinking to get this but currently I have that memory card.

    • Expandable up to 512GB

    • +1

      not really?

    • +12

      120Hz AMOLED, SD732G, 6GB, 128GB , 5020mAh

      you sure ?

  • +1

Not seeing "Ships From: AU Direct" option anywhere?

    • +2

Select 'Ships From AU' see here

  • Looking for a good cheap phone with camera the main thing I care about. This or used pixel 4?

    • -7

A used Samsung is probably a good bet for a quality camera. Pixels are mediocre cameras supported by great software, so they look pretty solid but can be limited.

    • +5

If it's camera you care about above all, the Pixel is your pick. For most other specs (except SoC notably) it's this.

  • +3

Poco X3 Pro is better in specs?

    https://au.banggood.com/POCO-X3-Pro-Global-Version-Snapdrago…

OS: MIUI 12 for POCO, based on Android 11
CPU: Snapdragon 860 Octa Core, up to 2.96GHz
    GPU: Adreno 640
    RAM: 8GB LPDDR4X
    ROM: 256GB UFS 3.1
Card Extend: Supports an external TF card up to 1TB (VFAT)

    • Poco F3 trumps them both.

      • F3 has the chipset. RN10P has the camera.

    • +7

Screen on the Poco is IPS instead of AMOLED

    • +11

Redmi Note 10 pro has better cameras, and amoled screen.
Poco has worse cameras and LCD screen, but better processor.

I reckon Note 10 pro for normal users, Poco for gamers

      • +1

Better cameras are a win for me

  • Ship from AU doesn't mean australian stock.

    • Ships from their AU warehouse as opposed to being shipped from Hong Kong.

      • So, is the AU warehouse in Australia?

        • Yes

  • How are my fellow OzBargainers finding delivery with Aliexpress and BG lately?
I ordered a phone off Aliexpress nearly 4 weeks ago, no tracking movement since arriving in the country.

    • +1

AliExpress been fine for me. I'm in Perth. You east coast? If it's in Australia it's COVID holding it up.

      • I'm Melbourne

        • I'm in Melbourne too. I ordered this phone from Aliexpress on 29 Aug, it arrived in Melbourne on 12 Sep and was delivered on 18 Sep.

    • My old man ordered a Redmi Note 10 off BG and it was delivered in about 2 weeks from China. Most of my Aliexpress orders have taken about the same. (To Perth)

    • Bad. 4+ weeks on multiple orders… However one $10 item arrived in 8 business days somehow.

      • Same, purchased off AliExpress 4weeks ago and hasn't left.

    • Ordered a Poco F3 from BG on 31 Aug, arrived 14 Sep in Melbourne. Tracking didn't update until the morning of arrival.

    • +2

FYI don't expect any form of warranty if buying from AliExpress. I bought a Poco x2 18 months ago from the 'official Xiaomi store' on Ali. Microphone stopped working after 2 months, after weeks of back and forth with the store and AliExpress they offered me a total of $19 in compensation….

I get it that in another country with parts worth a few cents and slave labour that might work but not for Australia.

I rejected it and said that it's fine to not provide a warranty, but be upfront about it. Don't state there is a warranty and offer $19 as a fix. I offered to ship it back to them for repair and they had no interest in actually fixing it…

In the end I bought a new chipboard, installed it and luckily that was all it took to get it working again.

  • How does camera compare with p20 pro?

  • do not expect any warranty unless you buy it on Amazon. This is a great phone if you want to install a custom ROM. Not for everyone but worth the effort. All instructions as usual available on XDA forums.

    • Is there much benefit? How different is it vs a Samsung's version of android? Curious if its worth the stuffing about as a gift for someone who uses an S8+.

Edit: Hmmm looking at the specs it does not seem like all that big an improvement.

      • +2

that's what I thought too. I was using a Samsung S8+ too before I got Xiaomi Poco X3 NFC (the same SD 732 chipset). I'm using crDroid custom ROM.
This thing flies when compared to S8! AOSP aka pure Android is soooo much faster than OneUI!
Do not believe the hype and think that you need the latest chipset in a phone: SD888 is an absolute overkill for any phone.

        • By that logic wouldn't flashing the s8+ be as good an option? But lose some samsung camera software features i guess.

    • +1

Why? Any bad experience with their warranty yourself?

Actually my experience was quite good. Banggood sent me a new replacement poco x3 pro once I sent back the one having intermittent internet issue bought from previous deal. They also covered my postage. It took 3 weeks to get here from HK.

      • I've seen many shock and horror stories on OZB of people trying to claim warranty from Chinese sellers.
I've found that it's much easier to deal with Amazon who provide a 2yr warranty on Xiaomi phones they stock.

  • +1

How would this compare with the motorola edge 20 fusion? I'm aware that the Moto is more expensive but I'm wondering if the specs are comparable. The Moto on paper seems to be great value for something sold locally.

    • I have the moto it's fine I just hate the idea of side fingerprint so weird should be in the screen. Besides that the battery is excellent, the camera is average.

      • hmm, interesting, I think I can get used to the fingerprint scanner. Have you tried a port of Gcam with it? I'm on an LGV30 still so I imagine anything is an improvement camera-wise.

        • +1

Not yet but the factory software makes pictures look so fake sorry

  • +2

Bought this recently…. overall a great phone for the price. Amazing specs and the phone doesn't look cheap at all.
The only major problem for me is the lack of optical zoom. The telemacro lens offers up to 10x zoom, but the image quality is mediocre beyond 5x. Basically anything past 2x zoom is digital, which is really disappointing.
Would installing GCam improve the optical zoom?

  • +1

    The camera seems really appealing

Just curious how does the rest of the phone compare to say a samsung galaxy s21 base model?

  • Does NFC mean you can use Google Pay for this?

I’m looking to move over from iOS, and find there’s just so much to learn about android phones, but compared to iPhone 7+ (My current phone) this looks like it would be a decent upgrade, as far as I can tell.

    • +1

Yep, with NFC you'll be able to use Google Pay :)

MIUI is fairly similar to iOS. Xiaomi copies quite a bit from Apple.

      • +2

        Cheers for the response.

I’ve managed to stick with Apple for so long thanks to hand me downs and phone plans, but with the way their prices are going is just not compatible with my purchasing habits.

  • +1

    This vs poco x3 pro?

    • +1

Tough decision … better screen vs better processor

    • Unless you game the note 10 pro should last until the phone starts falling apart (5 years+)

  • I have the Redmi Note 7 (which is working fine) but I'm thinking of upgrading. Is it worth buying this Note 10 Pro or better to wait for the release of Note 11?

  • -2

On Aliexpress you can find this same model for AU$ 349

    • Link please?

      • -2

        • +3

That's the 64GB version and you have to add another $34.90 GST as it gets added at checkout on AliExpress. So works out to be $384 with GST and the 128GB $461.

  • Using poco x3 nfc which has the same processor as this redmi note 10
    Runs everything smoothly

  • It may be a silly.question but asking any way as I fed up trying to score $100 discount samsung chat code to trade up and get a galxy s21. How does this phone compare to the galaxy 21?

    • Fancy paying twice as much for twice as good phone?

    • +1

expect better software support from Samsung with three years of Software (OS) updates and four years of security updates. Better, local, warranty too. You do get what you pay for.

  • Does Android Auto work on these phones? I thought I read somewhere that AA doesn't work on MIUI.

    • +1

      Yep works

      • Not if you run Xiaomi Dual app.

    • +1

      Works fine.

  • I've ordered note 9T 5G from Banggood should be finally here this week after 4 weeks from China can't wait to test it out

  • Does this device charge the battery by induction?

    • no just wired charging

  • I want the red/bronze version but it's $279 from the HK wh, does that mean i'm just going to end up with a HK charger?

    • Yeah but can just get an adapter for around $10

    • You can use any charger with the USB cable lol

      • Yeah but you won’t get fast charging under an hour

  • Should I get this or poco f3?

    • f3, I bought a poco x3 and regret it very much so laggy

      • Was the poco x3 the standard or pro one

        • standard one

    • I have the Poco F3, but wanted the Redmi Note 10 Pro.

After MIUI 12.5 came out, everything got better with it (Would be the same for the RN10P).

I wanted the better camera and slightly less thirsty processor on the RN10P - but the F3 was all that was available.

It has a faster processor, and crapper camera… that's about it. I don't need to super beefy processor in the F3, and the one in the RN10P is already good enough.

So, if you want better battery and camera, the RN10P is the one, but you can't go wrong, really (once you get used to MIUI)

      • I think I’ll get the f3 anyway for 5G

        • Oh wow, I thought the RN10P was 5G!

          Well, there's a tick for the F3!
