OzBargains Biggest Tightasses, Best Stories / Trolls Ever

In the need for a laugh and am reminiscing on ozbargains best tightasses from the past. I would love to make a poll which can be edited by others but they look static once made.

this one comes to mind, and i think its an epic setup althought ott

https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/382306

and there was another where a bloke drove from SA to sydney in summer with no air con to save $50in fuel but can find the story

are there any others that were popular with respect from the community

Real or not, that was a classic!

Man, OZB thinks of everything! You could have an entire Pam page.

No way, that user's cake thread was better…

Or what about the Swedish guy who found $150 and got pissed about not copping a finder's fee…

Or the one where a user was trying to stitch up their family via a combined present and wanted to use their discount vouchers but charge the other contributors their share at full RRP

      • +1

        thats cheap

      • Given those were that user's only two threads, I think it is safe to assume they were either trolling, or looking for OzMassiveCheapSkate rather than OzBargain.

    • yeh thats the one, a bloody ripper

https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/273269 this was pretty fun to watch and started a meme about high yield investments. And WTF, it's been 5 years. Time flies. Do i also have the oldest account here? I'm a dinosaur.

    • I do actually think OP's comment there was misconstrued, although has become a repeated meme now.

They weren't suggesting that the 80K car would appreciate in value. Rather, they were suggesting that having an 80k car was an investment that would raise social value and impression on others within that industry/group, which would then yield returns in other ways. I suppose in the way access to exclusive club would?

Still deluded youngster, but very different from what the hivemind thinks they meant. They then backtracked and ruined only plausible explanation by denying it was for "impressing anyone" when their original comment literally stated such, so became a confusing mess.

I think it's an investment with high yield. As an individual, it's an upgrade to my living standard which I deserve. As for my profession, I believe it helps me to blend in to this new environment. First impression counts, I think it does make a difference. Lastly, my condition allows me to, so why not.

No, that's what I thought they meant. That driving a Mercedes would bring them status they would be able to cash in.

      • +1

No, I'm pretty sure we all got what he meant and thought it was totally ridiculous all the same.

  • Hilarious but oh so inconvenient. It would be easier to think of ways to make more money!

  • +3

There was that guy that purposely ripped the handles of an Aldi shopping bag and returned it for 15 cents.
Not sure if trolling or thought it was cool to brag about committing fraud but I'm guessing the latter

    • +5

Considering it was posted by scab, I'd guarantee that's a troll thread

    • Other people do that too? I thought it was just me >_> I mean, the bags are getting rather long in the tooth..

    • -1

HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA all that to get back his 15 cents spent on that bag!

OH and he's in penalty box too! Hahahaha

    ahahaha

Tight arses… The guy that went apeshit in a thread because eBay overdrew on his account by 30¢…

Troll threads… Mr "is it ok to pull a firearm on eshays?" Or Mr " I got a Twitch streamer to shout out my dogs Instagram account and only got 3 new followers…" or anything Pam or SlavOz posts about.

    • Damn, this vid has been removed!

      • Damn, I dont know where that went… That was the video where 90% of the dashcam footage was quite literally "the dash"

    • the Swiss guy that wanted 10% of the money he picked up in his workplace and returned it and was livid that he didn't get anything or a thank you

The dude who cooked all the time at the public bbq near his apartment.

    • +3

      Linked in the OP…

      • +9

        Ha, I'm a dill.
That post occupies a disproportionate part of my brain real estate.

  • +4

Just any post by @Hellopam AkA @Screensaver gets a chuckle from me (specifically the missed training session one)

    Biggest trolls?

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/user/293022/nodes

    So many undeleted troll posts…

    • +2

      Hahah, forgot about him.

    • +1

Haha! That one was so cooked.

    • +3

It's even funnier cause the OP still thinks he's got the edge over the house.

      • +2

I'm just happy I got called out in the OP to a duel… at midday, under the casino lights, in the big top roulette arena. Winner takes all, loser whimpers away…

EDIT #2 : November 22 I have challenged @pegaxs to prove me wrong in the real world. Will he accept or will he whimper away??

And let's not forget the ridiculous conditions I need to adhere to. Send an "independent" proxy, sign an NDA… But my proxy gets free drinks, which is nice… :D

        • +2

If OP was correct they'd have infinite money.

          • @deme: They’d be banned well before tbf.

        • -7

And let’s not forget the trolling done by the poster of this post about trolling. Ironic really and when the challenge came he declared the simple conditions to be too complicated so he could weasel out of the battle in the real world. The offer still stands buddy. You must know someone where I live who could help you prove your point. There I bit on your fishing line which is probably a reason for this post in the first place. Maybe you hoped to garner some support for your lack of comprehension skills which are akin to Qanon followers and rationalise your superior intellectual delusions. I’m expecting a Trump flag next 😜 Oh dear did I just troll a post about trolling? Or was the post trolling with an almost gossamer disguise?

          • +2

@MontyMacaw: Dude, you play roulette. It's not that deep.

            • -3

@dylo: You are right. It’s not that deep but @pegaxs seems to keep digging his hole.

          • @MontyMacaw: Look mate, from where I’m sitting, there’s really only two cases

Case 1: You’re right and have found this magnificent method that no one else knows.

            • if that’s the case, then a logical person would not share it and cripple Casinos - well before the casino notices and the person gets banned.

Case 2: Your method worked but by chance and is not a repeatable, consistent guarantee of profit.

            • this is extremely similar to the phenomenon we see in the crypto/share market where someone makes a profit from a strategy but the cause of the profit had nothing to do with the strategy.
To give another example, it would be the same as a lotto winner going around telling people they had figured out a way to beat the system when it was luck.

Now, ironically, if I were a betting man, I’d say the second case is much, MUCH, more likely. (sorry)

@Dilemma: Thank you for your support and balanced opinion. A breath of fresh air.

When I'm telling people about my love for OzBargain I bring up the public BBQ thread, the office cake refund thread - some Larry David ish right there, and the guy that got on a customs watch list due to frequent trips to SEA fueled by OzBargain deals.

The guy complaining about his housemate's oven use is up there too and also likely to be real unlike most of the other greatest hits

    • I understand they’re doing their job, but clearly this isn’t random.

I never understood this line of thinking. I don't want them randomly picking people that's for sampling not finding all the instances. I'd rather they use their brain.

The boyfriend not willing to pay for condoms one

    • This one? Christ, that was an early one.

      • Yeah that's the one, wondered how many DMS she got from the community.

      • Hahahaaahaha I saw them on sale $2 at the toilets…

        2014 damn thats old

  • +2

How have I never seen the bbq post?!

  • Huh the bbq OP is still active surprisingly. I wonder how the saga ended

  • +3

Remember that one by DisabledUser? That was brilliant!

    • +2

All the best threads are started with "DisabledUser"

  • New troll thread incoming… The "is it ok to boil my eggs in the work kettle" post…

  • This guy isn't on OzB but deserves honourary membership for his (imho) Legendary-level OzBargainnessCalifornia Man Pays Off Student Loans, Buys House, by Eating All His Meals at Amusement Park

  • It's the idiotic questions asked by many on Ozbargain that question their age, or level of education.

Take for instance the other day when a self professing "innovator" wanted to know what an "innovator" does…

Then you have countless idiotic questions about driving incidences that clearly show the individuals should not even be on the road.

And like the guy saving $50 on fuel… possibly with windows down, making $75 worth of drag.

Next sitting at the lights, look around, who is unlicenced? Who is on drugs? Who is on the phone? Who do not know the road rules?

  • What about the guy who ate at a fancy restaurant but wouldn't let his partner eat anything, but still expected them to go with him.

Also I might be making this one up but wasn't there a forum post about a Gumtree/Marketplace deal gone bad, and the OP was in their bedroom posting for help while the bad guys were waiting in the lounge room, or something along those lines?

  • +1

https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/666233 I don't even know what to say about this one

  • The greatest troll story I remember is the lady hearing noises in the attic allegedly caused by intruder neighbour stealing electricity with cables and everything

  • There was a guy that wanted to split the 2x viomi fan deal. Have it delivered interstate and then asked for a discount on the deal price. God, I can't believe how stingy people are sometimes…
