Now my mind is at ease about not bothering since Whitfords is the closest store. I read that Innaloo was much the same scene. DSE used to be a great store back in the day. All I can say is I'm happy we have Jaycar & Altronics now. :)

      • +1

Yeah. I'll still buy console games new from eBay. They must be on crack if they think red dead will sell for $50.

  • waste of my time

  • +3

My original neg was revoked, came back to see if anyone got anything. I feel vindicated now.

  • +3

if you really wanted anything, considering everyone knew about it, you should've done what some of the ppl on here did. go in on the weekend and hide some of the stuff. who the heck has time to line up 2 hours before it opens and not knowing if they had anything!!!

personlly i wasn't desperately enough to want anything so didn't partcipate.

    • Wow, never even thought of that!!

    • +1

      ACA is on it? popcorn.gif

Neg for DSE Staff and not KKraig. Went to a large DSE store today in regional SA, was a sucker that lined up for 40 minutes. Got in there, was hardly any stock extremely rude staff, over heard a few customers talking about their family members who worked there and what they were bringing out for them from out back. She had a basket of games, accessories and xbox points and 3 consoles and then put it through with staff discount (in front of 30 people in a que to pay). As for myself picked up a U draw tablet box (there were about 10 on the shelf with sale stickers) only to be told it was $109 and not in the sale when I queried why they all had the sale sticker on I was told "it's not my problem it's not in the sale it's $109 and not her fault someone had put the wrong stickers on". Blinding customer service, maybe if JB had trained them in customer service they'd be doing a bit better. Not to mention what I'm assuming to be the manager in plain clothes as all the staff kept going to him to ask questions, he walks out with 4 consoles and his mates had some more boxes. Poor form to be honest and I'm sick of people saying it wasn't advertised directly from DSE, YES IT WAS ON THEIR SOCIAL NETWORK PAGES AND HERE!

So a massive thanks for inviting me to observe your staff only sale Dick Smith, from what I could tell it was a hit!

  • Wasting my time =.=!

  • dick smith staff rubbing it in:

"Working for Dick Smith has its benefits :D"

    http://yfrog.com/h8kcvfrj

    • If that's the only benefit that they get then I honestly feel sorry for them.

    • Wow…that really pisses me off. Then her comments to others just screams Mole.

  • +2

Went in and saw the games that were on the list for discount but none of them were actually on sale… left store disappointed.

  • Wonder if Dick Smiths have caught the employee who leaked the list..

    • -1

Apparently they've both been fired and Dick is considering Police involvement.

  • +1

    Fake!!!!!

Nothing is more powerful than an epic fail.

I give it a positive+. I went to plenty valley yesterday with my list of games and hid all the ones that were on the shelf that were meant to be reduced. Also the nice manager put on hold the last toy story psp bundle away for me. Went there first thing this morning amongst the crowd and as all the other people went to the games I went to where I had stashed them walked up to the counter and was first served with all the games that were reduced, picked up the psp and was gone while all the seagulls were wasting there time fighting over games that weren't even on sale:)

you don't have to spell eggsbox to buy one on sale

    • … and an apparent bad speller too.

  • DICK an epic fail but OZBARGAIN epic win, 29893 clicks and counting ;).

  • +9

I'm going to start a new gaming company at a cheap old warehouse, for the weekend only, 'leaked' out a massive game list on sale…..from $1 accesories, $3 games to $15 consoles. TONS of foot traffic on sale day, of course stocks will be close to non-existent.

THEN I'LL HAVE A KEBAB TAKE-AWAY JUST OUTSIDE!! BOOM!! PROFIT!!

ACCC should be investigating this….it's a massive bait marketing. MASSIVE!

    • +2

Why should they investigate it? It was repeatedly stated it was a clearance sale, ie, getting rid of whatever stock there was laying around. It was apparent before today that there is an actual advertised sale starting from 11 April, as confirmed by DSE reps here.

Nobody forced you to buy anything and reps and others repeatedly said that there might not be stock.

If you believe that entitles to all the games you wanted for $5 then you are fooling yourself.

  • +2

Total rubbish. Nothing for sale in the store I visted today (Belmont WA).

    http://www.news.com.au/technology/gaming/dicked-off-customer…

However, a spokesperson for Dick Smith confirmed that the sale did indeed take place today as planned.

"Due to the popularity of today's Dick Smith gaming sale we understand some customers did not get what they wanted and were disappointed," a statement from the spokesperson read.

  • Happy that i got a few nice cheap games i got but pissed off that red dead, medal of honor and a few other games from the list weren't updated on the list or in store

  • +4

Plenty of bargains being sold at the store I went to……… to staff and their friends!!! All OUT THE BACK & RESERVED. All the stuff I asked for, was either sold out (Plenty coming from out the back for friends of the staff)or not marked down. One thing I asked about had gone back to it's standard price during the morning, according to the staff member! Looked like a few staff members had come in while not rostered on (In their civies) just to pickup their stuff from out the back. DSE you suck!

    • Were customers giving them death stares?

      • Nope, I think everyone was just resigned to the fact it was a waste of time even going, and walking out in despair.

  • +1

At my local VIC Dick Smith just after 9am: Teen at counter (with his Dad) ask for one each of the DSis. Guy goes to stock room (as if they couldn't have kept their limited console stock behind counter) comes back and says "we only have these 3 DSIs". His Dad ponders for a long while (holding up queue) then takes them and transaction proceeds.
2nd staffer comes back to another customer at next register. Looks over at 1st staffer and says "I thought we were only giving one per customer" 2nd staffer: "No one told me…". 1st staffer shakes his head says to his customer "Looks like we are out!".

Same store also has some games stock in bigger brown boxes next to counter, Customers start going through. Young staffer tell them off saying those aren't for sale. Then as customers ask at for stock checks at the register staff check/fetch from those box (bad luck if people thought all clearance games stock would logically be all out on shelves/in store clearance sales bins).

I have to suggest to guy at counter maybe announce loudly to all customers in line that there are no consoles left (which he was telling each person in line as they asked one-by-one!).

They also had a grill gate in front of store so they could have easily communicated to awaiting customers how they were going to sell the stock (to save time/keep things fair, orderly, etc). Sheesh poorly run in so many ways…

I couldn't find the $1 copy of Battlestations Pacific PC I wanted :-( lol

PS. How come they chose to selectively list only 19 sale items online? Weird.

    • Hey, small world - Forest Hill. I was the guy who missed out on a DSI on the left most register. I wasn't that fussed that first person bought all 3 DSIs tbh.

The staffer I dealt with was pretty helpful (even though I had gotten my 4 xbox games straight out of the boxes to the right of the counter).

I saw one guy actually buy an xbox 4gb wrc bundle. They had no PSP3000, and just the 3 DSIs. I didn't see any other hardware being bought.

  • I got a Tony Hawk Ride for $5 at 11:30am at chatswood westfield, there was basically nothing else there, a small box area out the front with the discounted stuff. James who I spoke to didn't get anything and was helpful in looking up other codes to see if anything was still available.

Not all jerks, just the majority by the look of it :)

    pos from me

  • +1

i got a few things but everything good was pretty much full price and half the stuff on the list was not on special, dick smith is rubbish.

  • +2

So basically I'm not the sort to line up for morning deals, so was hoping to score some cheap games later. This is Canberra. I take a break and walk over to DSE in Canberra Centre around 10am to see if anything was around. There wasn't. I saw a copy of Vanquish for $15, which is a good price, but you can get about the same if you opt for the 2 for $40 deal at JB, or 2 for 25 (pound) on Zavvi so passed.

I looked online to see if there was anything more. Witcher 2 Premium for $15 - good price. It said it was in stock in Belconnen. Went over to Belconnen, nothing happening there, no Witcher 2 either. An XBox 250 GB on a sale table, 25% off $500RRP. Right.

However I had a crispy fillet burger at Red Rooster, and it was great! So I wouldn't say the day was completely bad.

  • +2

Had to be my lucky day. Rocked up for opening time at my local Dick Smith and managed to score one of only two Xbox 360 4GB Console + Rugby World Cup 2011 for $100.

  • TL;DR INCOMING

Just read through all these pages, really interesting to see some of the extremes and greed of staff/other people.

I woke up this morning at 4:50am (6:50am AEST) because I thought daylight savings was in effect, nope back to bed. Then woke up at 5:50am, noticed the site not working so obviously it already started, managed to load a few pages but nothing really good left so I head back to bed. Wake up again at 7:50 and head down to my closest DSE at Phoenix Shopping Centre, get there for about 8:45 and there's around 8 people waiting, at 9:00am it's now about 15. When the doors are about to open everyone rushes forward and some stupid lady in a pram barges to the front, she had her mother or friend with her so she could have left the kid with her but she was obviously using the pram/baby to block others.. as the doors open some dude side steps her and gets in front (lol), I wait at the back and stroll in, everyone runs to the gaming section and I head to the keyboards but can't see anything good, then I see a G19 display model and a staff member comes by and says he will get the box from out back (now that I think of it he sounded disappointed, maybe he wanted it?). I end up walking around for a bit (leaving my g19 sitting at the counter, lucky nobody thieved it!) but don't see anything particularly good, then I look in the raided glass cases and see 2x PSP 1002's (score!) I ask a staff member for both but then think 'I better leave one for someone else', head to the counter quickly as the staff member is waiting to scan my order and on my way some old guy and a female staff member are standing in the isle, I pass them quickly and say sorry only to have the staff member go off at me about manners, 'maybe next time say excuse me' then a dirty look, whatever.. then I head to pay for the psp+g19 and it totals $179… Psp is some other model and not discounted so I end up with the display model G19 for $40.

Next I head to Fremantle DSE which the gaming section now resembles the shelves of a convenience store after Y2K, now I'm really looking for a mouse and headset, manage to find a bunch of MW3 turtle beach sets for $50 (charlie series) but I don't believe the guy at first that it was the discounted price as they already had a tag for $50, turns out I'm wrong and they're normally $139 so I grab them. Talk to some staff and they said it was chaos, the guy who gave me the sales pitch about the headset said he wanted to grab a pair as well but was not allowed to buy anything until closing, they had about 2 left.

All in all I feel neutral about the situation, I think I can make good use of the G19 and the headphones are ok, would have preferred non MW3 branding but you can't have everything :)

  • The post for the 2nd Sale has disappeared is it still on?

    • found it dw lol

  • +4

    Over 7 million disappointed!

    Heil Dick Schmidt.

  • +20

Wow, wasnt expecting this many votes… or this many negs either!

    • There's a fair few more as well, as some people have revoked their +'ves

  • So how many records have been broken?
Most comments and most neg yet?

(also I am really tempted to click the neg button cause it just became a fiasco)

    • +2

I feel that people are just negging to join in now, rather than actually having any sort of reason.

I haven't voted at all because the prices are cheap, there were a few items in store that I would have liked but came out with nothing due to reasons that have already been pointed out, so I don't feel that a neg is needed however I am not going to vote positive.

      • +1

Yeah that's primarily the reason why I haven't voted yet.

  • +16

Been a member for 6-7 months now and never commented. This is what changed my mind:

    http://tinyurl.com/dickmovedse

    • The blood… it boils.

Even made no attempt to conceal the fact that he snatched this in front of god knows how many folks lining up for a chance in the morning.

      • that one is a different item number

        • +2

I think he removed the other one and relisted it.

      • +4

honestly people like these disgusts me. Oh the contempt I feel! The revulsion, repugnance, aversion, abhorrence, loathing, detestation, odium, execration and outrage all rolled into one.

        I propose a witch hunt.

Let's start with what we know, hmm?

        eBay username: 5906nick
Location: Orchard Hills, Sydney - 'free local pickup'
Member since: 20 Nov 06; not a very established account with such low feedback but regardless an old account
Pictures seem to indicate a smallish living space. An apartment perhaps? With blue carpeting. So. Does anyone know of any smaller living establishments in Orchard Hills with blue carpeting?

EDIT. Based on his (an assumption based on the username) other listing (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Yamaha-Audiogram-6-Computer-Recor…),

'Selling due to upgraded system for uni'. He's probably a uni student. Doing a degree or something else of some sort relating to computers or music. 'Computer recording system', hmm? So anyone knows any uni recently upgraded their system which pushed the Yamaha Audiogram 6 to obsolete?

Lesson of the day. Don't screw us internet folks over. Contrariwise, if you do, be ANONYMOUS.

        • I'm pretty sure that ebay post is a troll to get DSE customers riled up, who would post that they work at DSE and that's how they got it?

    • What a tosser. Should report that to eBay for fraudulent listing.

      • What's so fraudulent about it? (the early birthday present bit can easily be argued for, it is early after all)

      • Reporting to eBay would do nothing. Reporting to DSE head office might..

  • lol the man himself rubbishing the ACCC and supermarket chains

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DehakeB-OAs&list=UUVgO39Bk5sM…

…and yes i know he hocked it off to WOW 30 years ago but no mention or questions about this mornings "sale"? lol

    • Don't think many will come again and be fooled.

      • Ty for reducing the number of people so we can actually grab a bargain :)

  • +4

7 mil divide by 200 stores, you should get $35,000 of stock in each shop, I could only see about $2,000 stock in 2 Brisbane stores. pure BS!

    • Forgetting the online sale, but Yeah I'm doubting that covers the other ~$6M in stock :P

  • +4

i wish i could dislike this sale 500 times

  • A woman working at St Mary's store in Adelaide looked like she's on something. She's also has a really bad customer service. What I saw today was, A customer came in to return a mobile phone voucher because they had given him the wrong voucher for his carrier. Instead of calling the customer "that gentleman" she called him "that guy over there wants to return the voucher" when speaking to her peers. This happened in front of the customer's. I was like WTF!!! even crime converter staff has got better manners, well at least they called me Sir :) anyway I got a Memorex wii controller and a Nunchuck for $2 each and Singtar Guitar for $5..
Later in the day at 4pm this afternoon I went to DSE at Marion and saw about 20 pieces of the Memorex Wii controller and Nunchuck on shelves. I Took one to the counter and asked the girl nicely if she could scan it and tell me the price of it. She said its 20 dollar!! I was like WTF I got it for $2 this morning !! anyway peace people !!

    • +2

So you didn't like the customer service yet you still bought something. Says more about you I think

      • +1

yeah so what I don't like doesn't mean I shouldn't buy it .. Its cheap!! You don't need to like the services to buy something.. Look at MSY, everyone hates their services but still they go and buy it from there.. So what's your point?

  • +3

massive MASSIVE fail for DSE, will never buy anything from them again

  • +4

I was amazed at the bad customer service I received today. I was particularly interested in the g15 logitech keyboard so I asked the staff if there was any in stock. He replies with I'll check. So I fellow his lead to the counter and he starts serving other customers. He gives me some sort of look like, did you need something? Absolute disgraceful customer service.

Dicksmith please rename your selves Dick Head Smith

    • +1

Exactly, they did the same thing. Appalling customer service.

  • +2

What a rubbish sale. When I checked the night before, msot stores around my area (about 10) had little to no stock. Furthermore, the list said that a 250GB Xbox 360 slim was going to be for $100. When I called the store they actually said that the 4GB one was marked down to $100. Furthermore, when a store DID have stock online a quick call to the store informed me that 'lots of stock' is the same as 4 units.

What rubbish this sale was. I doubt the April 5th Sales will be just as bad or worse.

    • -7

The list never had the 250gb for $100 it was the 4gb. The people who had the chance to do physical research over the weekend seem to have done well and the people who waited and did nothing got nothing. Maybe getting off your arse instead of sitting on a computer might be telling you something.:)

  • +1

    Disappointing :(

  • +3

Sale fail, clearance of all remaining customer goodwill and future business success? Good strategy Dick.

  • Was really looking forward to getting a G9X but then was told there was only 1 available and that was at another store.

    • yeah i got the only one available, was at $20 bux at Erina. ;)
i figured everyone would run straight for the games and they did.

  • anyone else got any video footage of the sale, I want to have a laugh at people looking confused when they got in to the store.

  • +1

Very disappointed in DSE. Absolutely disgusted for what they had in stores, in all 4 stores I went to. Destroyed a lot of your reputation based on this. Wasted most people's time, even the online sale was one page? Shame on you guys!

I saw most of the items on the list at full price. Workers smirked and giggled like yeah right. Poor customer service.

spuderump, did you enjoy waking up 6am and fighting to grab those items to sell again on ebay? Such a desperate loser to do that. Sad some people actually go straight to eBay, must be unemployed.

  • -1

I actually managed to grab a 250gb Xbox 360 with my mate for $100 each. Only two consoles left (they had no psps, dsi, ps3).

    Was pretty lucky.

  • -2

nope I hid them all yesterday and strolled in at 5pm today so even better!!

    • You're my hero.

  • +7

THE NEGS ARE GOING DOWN! WAS AT 370, NOW AT 351. MODS STOP.

    • How can mods revoke negative votes? What's the criteria? I've never seen that done before.

      • They do it all the time. You need a legit reason to neg, hence why you must comment before negative voting.

        • +19

I think enough people have pointed out the reason (s) why. Do we need the same story another 100 times?
