Damn, I got the 12700KF + Z690M deal during black friday, would have paid the $50 extra for the ATX version. Oh well.

    • +2

Any big differences apart from the mobo size? Looking at both mobos atm, prefer matx so I can fit rad at top of my case if I want to change things around.

      • Size and how well hidden the cabling is. I have it in a mid tower case so the cables connected to the bottom ports like audio and sys fan are more visible since they come out of the bottom cutout and connect higher up than they would in on an ATX motherboard. It's functionally not a big deal since I have no real use for the extra PCIe slots but it just looks worse.

  • +5

    No AMD GPU deals, damn.

    • eternal regret not getting those 6000 series when they released at under 500 aud myself :C

  • +5

how come that's considered a good price for rtx 3060 when you can get 6600 xt for cheaper without sales?

    • +7

To each their own. imo I’d get an rtx card based on Ray tracing and DLSS, rtx voice is also great.

      • DLSS is the only feature difference worth a mention at this category… Definitely right that it's each to their own (is dlss worth the price diff)🙂

        • +2

Um, not really. He did mention Ray tracing and DLSS. That's a well calculated response. When both of them are enabled, the gap is significant.

Hard to imagine people getting RTX cards not caring about ray tracing.

          • +3

@netsurfer: Not really, I've had 2 RTX cards and never used RT.

            • @BargainKen: Okay, rich people. :)

              • @netsurfer: Ken might have had 20 series cards before the great shortage lol…

              • @netsurfer: Not really that, I only really played FS2020 which doesnt support either. Had a 2080S but ran like crap, upgraded to 3080 (bit better) but FS2020 will bring a 3090 to its knees.

Tried Cyberbunk 2020 which supported both DLSS\RT but didnt really find the game that fun.

          • @netsurfer: I'm with hardware unboxed on how they see the feature, dlss is great at any entry point but RT is best at the higher end, and yes RT n DLSS typically go hand in hand. Like I said up to the customer, but for me between 3060 and 6600/xt it comes down to if DLSS is something I'd really want not RT.. And if it's worth the price diff to me.

            • @scud70: I did mention "he". Clearly, it is a subjective opinion. I do recall Steven mentioned that if RT is a factor, then go RTX.

It's fine if you think only DLSS matters, but it should also be fine for other people to feel DLSS and RT both matter.

    • Yea still really expensive, i wont be buying a new gpu until prices are lower
Recently got a used 1070ti in pristine condition for $600 and that performs nearly as well as the 3060 but for 50% cheaper
Also saw a 1080ti for 700 which even outperforms the 3060 significantly but was overkill for my pc, so used seems a better idea at least for me atm

      • Do you know what a Evga 1070 FTW hybrid is worth? Thinking of selling mine and ugprading.

  • would the Crucial P1 1TB SSD be suitable as a storage upgrade for the ps5? is was looking at a Samsung 980 PRO 1TB which has over double the read/write speed but also more than double the price.

    • +3

Gen 3 drive - so not usable.

      • cheers my man. i remember that being a point made in several youtube tutorials that i overlooked in pursuit of a bargain.

    • +1

No, Crucial P1 is PCIe gen 3 SSD and is one of the slowest PCIe gen 3 NVMe SSDs.

    • +1

If your getting an ssd for the ps5 dont forget to get one with a heatsink or buy one separate if one isn't bundled in but yes I believe the specs needed for ps5 is gen4 and 5500mb read and write speeds, 22mm width and 4tb max

      • +1

Sounds so complicated, I don't know how to install anyways
I was just going to use an external for the PS4, I don't own enough ps5 games and if it wasn't for COD I think the 1tb would be enough for a while
        Most games are 50gb-80gb, that's 15-20 games.
COD is like 200gb or something, it's ridiculous.

I end up having all these PS plus games I don't play either, I load them and their crap lol so learning to delete them.

  • I've seen the 5900x cheaper, tho I don't say no to deals.

Hoping to sell my 3700x to someone for far, far too much money to bankroll it.

    • Thinking of doing the same, what do you think you can get for your 3700?

      • I resell my hardware to people with warranty and support generally, so I intend to get over 2/3 the value of the 5900x

        • I reckon you probably will not achieve your goal u less your buyer is dumb.
I meant no offense—— think about it, the 3700x have 2/3 amount of cores, per core being about 1/4 slower than the 5900x, and have about 1/2 of warranty left. 3700x at launch is about $520, then drop to $450 or so.

gaming performance perspective, $450 5600x beats 3700x in every scenario, productivity perspective 5600x is only a touch slower.
present there's 3600 b550 bundle at just over $300 right now, which provide about the same gaming performance as 3700x, I'd say you are lucky to get $350 for the CPU alone, far lower than 2/3 of 5900x at $500

      • personal opinion, I'd pay $250 no brainer, $300 if it's a new batch in 2nd half of 2020, and $350 only if I know it OC well (4.4Ghz+ linpack pass + 1900FCLK)

  • Is the RTX 3060 a decent upgrade over a 1660TI? What other PC specs would I need? It would be for a Dell G5 gaming PC with an I5 CPU (I think). Sorry if dumb questions. :p

    • +3

personally, i would go for 3060ti instead of 3060.

      • Ok, cool - good to know - thanks

        • Just be aware you can get 3060 on sale at 799 but adding Ti at the end automatically increases the price by 200 - 300, so think about if that large cost increase is worth having Two letters at the end.

          • @dbmitch: There's also a performance increase, not like it's just two letters…

          • +1

@dbmitch: The 2 letters leads to a 20-30% increase in performance

            • +1

@seethroughthong: the performance increase is a given, just need to know if $100 per 10% is worth it to OP

              • +1

@dbmitch: Price/performance is still about the same. If a 3060 is worth it to OP then a 3060 ti should be too.

  • Is the mx500 good as an os drive or better for just game storage? Have 256gb as os but only a 1tb HDD and a 128gb ssd as game /storage drives.

    • +1

mx500 is great and IMO would be fine for an OS drive.

  • Ah man no more Logitech g pro x :(

    • Yeah it was sold out in less than a minute

  • Is there a place we can price match with shopping express? As the shipping for toshiba 8th hdd is killing the deal for me.

    • FYI it turned out to be just under $239 shipped, so not sure if they have adjusted prices or anything but seems ok

      • How did you get that? Still $269 for me

      • +1

Yeah, i saw that $229 price too but i am getting $21 shipping to the Tasmania which is quite unreasonable i believe.

        • $19.90 to regional NSW - still one of the cheaper and better performing 8tb HDD around at sub ~$250

  • +1

    Thanks for sharing op!

  • Are these cards LHR?

  • 8tb nas drive is a good deal.

  • +1

    According to their website:

    Samsung 970 EVO Plus 2TB
    $269.00
    Was $769.00

    lol

    • bah this got me! It's $299 everywhere, so I saved $9 after postage…

  • +1

Anyone know if the Samsung 970 EVO plus is still worth getting despite the controller swap?

EVO's have been good to me buy that's on the understanding that Samsung use good parts.

    • The controller swap I felt kinda provided better performance where it mattered, i.e. the SLC cache was increased so it will perform better initially but once SLC cache is exhausted drops precipitously.

"As per the result, the old version started at 1,750 MBps and eventually dropped down to 1,500 MBps after the 40GB mark. On the new version, the drive steadily performed at 2,500 MBps, but once the 115GB SLC cache was exhuasted, the SSD fell to 800 MBps. This represented a 47% performance hit."

      https://www.tomshardware.com/news/samsung-is-swapping-ssd-pa…

      • Seems like it will be a reasonable OS drive but a terrible storage drive.

        • TBH, if you need more than 115GB at once for writing, you should probably get a larger drive.

        • +2

SSDs in general are poor value for mass-storage, most people use a mechanical drive for mass storage and SSD for time-sensitive data (OS/Games/Applications etc).

  • RTX 3060 12GB $1500 7 months ago… this deal puts me to shame… here is my ozbargain card
