  • Thanks OP , i would say pass as there is no touch screen

    • I've had touch screen in my last Dell XPS 13 and my current HP Spectre and never use it. The mouse is far better. But as per below, this is the 2020 model. The gen 10 has just been announced (although will unlikely be out until mid year).

    • Never seen anyone use a touch screen on a laptop.

It's a gimmick in Windows unless using as a tablet.

Use mine daily when in meetings away from desk… IT professional here

        • Convertible? We're you using it in a tablet form factor?

          • +2

@ihfree: Nope, just easier to swipe up and down sometimes and when working with someone whilst in a larger meeting easier for 2 ppl to not fight over a track pad etc

Has its market, my wife forgets her xps has it lol

@quikstix: Fair enough but I think you’re in the 0.1%

        • +3

I second that…touchscreen is so much more convenient…i don't use the 2-in-1 as a tablet but still the touchscreen is worth the while.

        • 3rd

        • 4th well it's my wife's laptop but I made the purchasing decision

      • 5th, i use it all the time even in standard form factor, i don't have it on our current house laptop and its a pain and i miss it!

My work X1 Carbon has a touch screen, I've disabled it in device manager because it's annoying that every time I point to the screen to show other people things, it registers as a touch…

  • +1

    also last gen.

    • +2

      Technically last last gen now!

Unless you absolutely must have a laptop now, I'd wait to see some real world benchmarks for the new efficiency cores in the 12th gen chips. I'm hoping they do as much for x86 as big.LITTLE did for arm.

      • I need a new laptop late Feb/early March. When are laptop manufacturers likely to release new models with new gen Intel/AMD chips?

        • New models should have came out by then, only problem being if you can get the stock.

        • I've seen a march release date for some HP laptops - not sure about the others as I simply haven't checked. I'd expect there will be some availability, but it's at least worth waiting to see some new benchmarks, especially for battery life - these we should start to see early Feb I'd expect (guess!).

Prices for 10th/11th gen laptops will only come down over the next month or two.

Bigger screen wud have sold me :))

Lol getting negged for a personal preference. Brutal =P

      • Right!

What size is it anyway? Couldn't find it in the eBay listing or on this post. I'm assuming it's not 15.6", which is what i'm after.

Old model, definitely not worth the price

    • -1

And who are you to decide on my behalf?

  • Yeah would not recommend to buy, especially the CPU is very shitty.

  • 12th gen Intel or next gen ryzen a way better option and due next month

This seems like pretty poor value. No GPU? My Intel NUC has the same CPU and it cost me $350. I know it's a different product for a different purpose but is 16gb ram, 500gb SSD, a screen and keyboard really worth all that much extra. Quite sure you could get a much better performing laptop for less than this

X1 Carbon is in the Ultrabook category, not Gaming Laptop. You’re paying a premium for the branding and build quality.

      • Exactly. More specifically the original "business" ultrabook. I've had many ultrabooks from Dell, HP and Lenovo and the X1 is my favourite for work. It's so light, strong and grippy. So carrying it while open around the office (for those who remember what that is) was so easy.

        • And its keyboard is unreal. Once you try a ThinkPad keyboard, there is no going back.

    • This seems like pretty poor value. No GPU? My Intel NUC has the same CPU and it cost me $350.

where did u get your nuc for this price my guy bcause im after a budget nuc or laptop

      • +1

Sorry my bad it was $379 but this was my deal I posted quite some time ago. This one is gigabyte but I also bought an 8th gen i5 Intel version for around the same price from shopping express clearance eBay. Deals come up from time to time.
