20% off The Good Guys Gift Cards at Australia Post

4400

20% off on The Good Guys gift cards when purchased at Australia Post from 30 April to 13 May.

PS: Although the deal technically starts on the 30th, some Australia Post outlets seem to be honouring the deal now.

PPS: Looks like the link has been photoshopped out of the Australia Post official catalogue. And the link has been removed from Lasoo. I've updated the link to the catalogue. It is on the bottom of page 5 of the catalogue.

  • Great deal, can't wait for my "new" ipad

  • good timing~ need to buy some stuffs recently.

  • Also another person looking to fill a house with appliances.
I was looking around for an LG 55LM6700… Best price I see is just under $2.4k.
Price match, 20% off = less than 2k. Cheerin.

Haven't even looked into the rest of the stuff yet

Really hope there isn't some stupid catch at the end of all the hype

  • I was at my local Post office this afternoon I carefully looked over the stand there were vouchers for JB,Target,Myer,BCF,Movies and a number of other places ranging in value from $20-$100 there were however no Good Guys cards there was however 4-5 empty holes were they may have previously been hanging. I've stood next to that stand dozens of times I'm pretty sure they were there previously :(

    • +2

It doesn't start till next Mon.

      • I'm aware of that but why would the cards be taken from the shelf? there was distinct empty slots where they may have been, while I wouldn't swear to it in court I am pretty sure the rack had the good guys cards on it when I was there last week.

        • To be ready for the ozbargain stampede!!!

    • +4

maybe the staff are putting them aside for themselves

  • +1

Do they do Mobile recharges at T.T.G ?

    • +1

      yes they do =)

      • Thanks linni :)

  • +14

i got a feeling this will somehow end in pain, frustration and heartache

    • I have the same thought, anyone wanna bet a $20 gift card on the outcome?

  • I was wondering if good guys sell psn/ eshop cards?
    time to stock up .

  • wow is a good example. all with wow giftcards lost their money as it went into receivership. this reminds me i better use my Dick smith gift cards soon at woolies asap.

  • The good guys website is now DOWN!!! not looking good

    • +1

      It's fine this morning.

  • Judging by the rapid number of votes and responses this will be a popular deal quite possibly a stampede of bargain hunters just like the dse games sale and possible video footage of the crush.

Nobody go to my local PO i beg of you bargain hunters :D

  • this has disaster written all over it! the problem they have is gift cards are like cash, and there is no reason (legal reason!) why they can refuse to accept a giftcard as payment on a skinny deal. Items like ipads are going to get hammered!!!!! And if the post office wasnt busy enough already, this comes along!

  • The giftcards appear usable on my local TGG website. However, all iPads are marked as sold out.

    • +1

Are the replenishing the stock or are they phasing out selling iPads?

  • There will be an unprecedented mad rush at Aus Posts everywhere next Monday… the poor staff won't know what hit them…

  • Thank goodness the ipads are still in stock at stores surrounding my area.

  • Just checked my local PO. It appears they come in $50 and $100 cards. They don't have enough on the shelf for the amount I want to purchase… Might have to outsource to my mates.

I feel sorry for the clerk that will serve me on Monday morning.

  • +2

Went to Aust Post this morning and was going to be charged $600 for $600 worth of good guys gift cards. When the lady at the counter and I read over the ad again, realised the promo doesn't start til 30 april 2012. Slap forehead, apologise, leave. Probably a good thing as now I've checked the website and Good guys don't seem to stock the Ipad! Any suggestions?

    • +18

This is why I feel sorry for anyone working in retail, they have to deal with people that don't pay attention to these things.

    • +18

Why you guys negging him for his mistakes? He already slapped his own forehead…..

  • I also just checked my local PO.
    $100 and $50 as well.
    they had 19 $100 giftcards

  • good guys don't sell ipads it seems… or at least the stores in ACT don't.

    • good guys in tuggeranong definitely sells the ipad.

  • Not that I condone stealing, but what if people wanting this offer go to their local PO and take the gift cards off the rack(there is no value on them until the PO activates it after paid for) and then come back with them on the 30th and pay for them. Probably get -ve for this and I actually wouldn't do it myself but probably have now put thoughts into peoples heads which was my aim :) I want to see how far an ozbargainer will go. :)

    • This guy…

    • what make you come up with that idea?

    • +2

I swear officer, I was going to bring it back and buy it tomorrow!

      • Is it stealing if it explicitly says it has no value until it's purchased?

    • Not that I would do it either, but I thought of the same thing =)

  • +23

because the sale on the giftcards are in the actual aust post catalogue, maybe good guys stores can price match on the gift cards.

the policy says: "In the unlikely event that you see a lower advertised price by any local competitor*, for any product we stock prior to purchasing from us, we will beat that price to maintain our Lowest Price policy."

technically speaking, giftcards are a product that they sell.

    • Thats actually a really good point

    • Genius!

    • Do they do stock check?
I doubt any post office will have stock by the time you ask for a price match at TGG

  • Good deal. But there should be no expiration date on gift cards imho.

    • There is good reason why companies put expiry dates on gift cards. That money has to be put to aside awaiting for someone to purchase goods. Can you seriously see a company holding onto peoples money for an uncertain amount of time especially if times get tough. Larger companies can afford to have longer expiry dates because they can hold more collateral. To lower the risk, companies put expiry dates on vouchers and gift cards so they get used and not held onto.

      • Are you sure they actually set aside the money? I personally doubt it, it would just be an easy way to help with cash flow, it just comes in sooner than it has to go out. Also, Choice repeated say that ~25% of gift-cards are never redeemed, so it's free money to the store. There's very little negatives for a store to offer gift-cards, but plenty of positives. Even with the 20% off, given the 25% no redemption rate (though would expect it to be lower in this case as people aren't likely to gift it to someone else), there's a good chance TGG will be better off + increased sales.

        • I answered the statement about how gift cards should have no expiry dates. I agree with your comments, it was more about having collateral to cover the giftcards like a business needing to have the money for when you want to cash in your annual leave when you leave a job.

        • Umm… its not as if there has ever been a problem of worker entitlements going missing when a company collapses. Oops - we spent that to keep the company afloat. Cash from Gift Cards is unlikely to ever be kept separate from other income in a business. I know of no law to ensure that. It should just be recorded in their records - an income with future costs. Otherwise the company can not realise on it like any income.

  • Unless I've read it wrong, there may be a limit of 1 TGG gift card use per transaction.
    http://newstores.thegoodguys.com.au/termsandconditions/index…

    Conflicting info:
"You may use a combination of payment types to pay for your order, but you are limited to using 1 credit card and/or 1 The Good Guys issued tender type (Mag-striped Gift Card, Bar-coded Gift Card, or Store Credit)."

    "Using Gift Cards
Gift cards, unlike credit or debit cards, are debited at the time an order is placed. These cards will automatically be redeemed to purchase totals, up to the total purchase amount. In the event the total purchase amount exceeds the value of the card, you will be required to use another card or a credit or debit card to pay the difference. Any amount charged to a credit or debit card will be treated as set forth above."

    Someone go verify!

    • so if you exceed the value of the TGG gift card, you use another TGG gift card, makes sense to me.

    • +2

You've read it wrong. That says you can only use one TYPE of Good Guys issued tender (eg. mag-striped gift cards in this case), but can use as many as need be up to the purchase price.

      • -2

Yep only 1 gift card per transaction is what I can see in the Terms and Conditions.

"you are limited to using 1 Bar-coded/Mag-striped Good Guys Gift Card"

        Paying For Your Order

You may pay for your order using the following payment methods: Visa; MasterCard; PayPal; The Good Guys Gift Card; or The Good Guys Store Credit.

You may use a combination of payment types to pay for your order, but you are limited to using 1 credit card and/or 1 The Good Guys issued tender type (Mag-striped Gift Card, Bar-coded Gift Card, or Store Credit).

        • +2

So when I went into the store earlier this year and used 3 x $50 cards for one purchase it didn't really happen?

        • +2

Yeah sorry Hoff, you and eron are reading it wrong. It says they have 3 different types of Good Guys issued tender, but you can only use one of those types for each transaction. It does not say anything about how many cards of that type you can use, and actually specifically allows use of multiple gift cards in the T&Cs under the heading of Using Gift Cards:
"In the event the total purchase amount exceeds the value of the card, you will be required to use another card or a credit or debit card to pay the difference."

        • +1

I think the confusion lies with the part "you will be required to use another card".

          Do they mean add another card or;
use a different card that can totally cover the purchase?

They are open 1-5pm tomorrow. Ill ring to clarify

        • +1

In those T&C it is referring to 'site' not store - just read those T&C.
          as in…
          "Website Terms Of Use"
          "General
Welcome to The Good Guys ® Web site."
          "Paying For Your Order"…
"Payment processing services offered via the Site are outsourced to third party providers."

The T&C must be read in context - it is T&C for WEBSITE only use.
Like many, the website is not designed to take more than 1 GC or CC number.

As colaman reported above, payment was accepted instore with multiple gift cards.

DH is misrepresenting WEBSITE T&C as STORE T&C. Case closed.

    • Those are T&C for online purchase.
Site does not have provision for accepting multiple Gift Card numbers.
And "Payment processing services offered via the Site are outsourced to third party providers."

    • +2

I used 42*$50 cards last year

  • +6

Went to Melbourne GPO, so checked a bit.

    Info:
Post Office only have $50 cards and $100 cards. While they have lots at the moment (20+ for each, maybe more at the back), if poeple got greedy and each person grabbed 10, you know what will happen… A lot of people will leave empty handed and feel disappointed.

So.. be kind and only buy what you need. You need to be realistic on your chances on getting the cards. Imagine the guy in front of you wants to buy a TV… you know the rest.

Lower your expectation, let's try not to have another infamous DSE game sales deal incident.

    • If that's how many they have at a big store then who knows how many they have at the smaller ones. Since a lot of people are going for iPads then I have a feeling a lot people are going to leave disappointed.

  • +2

Nice find! Can't say I look at AusPost catalogues ever!

  • +1

This is going to be epic. But for those planning on buying iPads with this.. do you really think TGG will have enough stock to go around? BigW never has stock on iPads. What makes you think TGG will? I just can't see them ordering huge amounts of stock. 257 upvotes. I would imagine a few hundred people who upvoted already intend to get an iPad of some sort.

You could be waiting a long time. Or you might be left with gift cards with nothing you want to buy.

    • No stock for an entire year, not even the next model update of iPad?

  • +1

iPad? Nah….I'm going for the Samsung 7.7"

    http://www.thegoodguys.com.au/alexandria/Samsung_Galaxy_Tabl…

    • Newer, cheaper ones coming. Very soon.
Also can be purchased for ~20% off that price on eBay.

      • Nah, you talking about the Samsung 7" tab

The 7.7" has higher res, super AMOLED screen

  • +2

This is shaping up as the next Dick-gate…

    • +4

I will have no hand in shaping this.

      • +4

That will only be determined by a mass debate.

        • +1

It will not come to this.

        • I too would like to block this motion, just the thought of it makes me gag.

          Edit: oh snap, too far…

  • -1

    bazinga

  • -1

so when does the sale start?

  • +3

    Thanks OP
Bought 5 x $100 at Aus Post this PM. They had to ring head office to find the code to bill at 20% off.
Nothing on the cards about 1 card per transaction. Looking at their terms and conditions in one of the earlier posts - "In the event the total purchase amount exceeds the value of the card, you will be required to use another card or a credit or debit card to pay the difference".
Planning on buying the Samsung 7.7 as I missed out the earlier offer.
Hope they don't go out of business in the meantime.

    • +1

wtf I thought this didnt start til the 30th.
But I see the site has been amended.

      • +1

        Where is the site amended?

        • The Lassoo site had the amended date last night but this morning I cant find any mention of the deal.
Ok I see it as per info below, page 5 Auspost catalogue.

Cant quite make it out but looks like it says Offer available from from 30th April.

    • Really? Today?

    • +1

      Really??????????

    • i can see ppl queue up at PO on thursday morning!

    • +2

can you post a receipt please?

      • +5

        Here's most of the receipt.

I guess I was lucky to get it yesterday

        http://upload.ozbargain.com/2012/04/25/8271_receipt.jpg

        • allow 24hours for activation.

        • $424? How come? Did you buy something else too?

        • Just to explain the receipt - it was a bit too long for my scanner
          I also bought $24 of 60c stamps

I wonder if the 24 hr for activation includes Anzac Day?

  • I work at post office I can get as many gift card as I can =]

    • +6

do you get a post office staff discount on top?

  • Does anyone know if i can use the gift cards on PSP Vita? As I think 4x100 TGG gift card is only $320, that's great price for a local stock PSP Vita (better than Amazon German one).

  • Is the deal still on? Can't find reference of it from Lassoo or Auspost. Links posted on the comments don't work either.

    • Ok never mind.

Deal is on the bottom of page 5 in the catalogue

  • My mistake (comment above)

  • Copy of the ad page
    http://tinyurl.com/8x9yrwd

If you got the cards already you did well.

  • +5

Step One : Purchase cards at full price on credit card
Step Two : Wait until 30th April and submit price protection claim through credit card company.
Step Three : Wait for 20% difference to be refunded.
    BEAT ALL THE OZBARGAINERS!

    • Wow. I've got that on my platinum. Look what you've done now! Planted evil ideas in my head. That and the way you set it out reminded me of SNLs "d*ck in a box"

      • +2

Just checked the conditions on my ANZ platinum - difference in value must be greater than $75 and total cap is $300 that they will pay so $20 saving on a $100 gift card wont apply :(

        • Gem Visa : Min of $10, no maximum amount. Looks like it'll work for me.

        • if you buy 4 x 100 gift card, that's total of $80 price difference. Can't you do that with price protection?

    • Will Aust Post accept credit card payment for gift cards?

    • FYI - This does not work with the 28 degrees Mastercard as it specifically excludes gift vouchers in their PDS..

  • +2

does TGG 30 days lowest price policy apply to gift cards? If so, buy gift cards now from TGG, then get a 120% difference refund on Monday, that 24% off the gift cards

    • This one is interesting, posible?
