20% off The Good Guys Gift Cards at Australia Post

4400

20% off on The Good Guys gift cards when purchased at Australia Post from 30 April to 13 May.

PS: Although the deal technically starts on the 30th, some Australia Post outlets seem to be honouring the deal now.

PPS: Looks like the link has been photoshopped out of the Australia Post official catalogue. And the link has been removed from Lasoo. I've updated the link to the catalogue. It is on the bottom of page 5 of the catalogue.

  • is this deal still on? I can not find it in Aust post or lassoo can someone post a link to the page, as it is not showing for me. thanks

  • Tried at Post Office in North Sydney this morning, no luck! They are not willing to sell at 20% before the period listed on the catalog.

  • +2

Got $1050 worth from chelsea vic aus post this morning (all going towards a new tv this afternoon giving the activation time to take effect), just pointed out the deal in the catalogue without mentioning the start date and was all good! there were a lot left over on the shelf, I tried Seaford earlier but they had none at all. no credit card surcharge either :)

    • did they just scan in on the system? or did they need to put in a code/call the manager?

      • it looked like there was a quick word with the manager (no more than 5 seconds), no phone call. The receipt lists "AP Refunds Miscellaneous Reference Promo Reason Promo until May 13" next to each card.

        • No Luck at Mascot. Come back monday. Also all the $100 ones are gone. I think the staff are keeping them aside.

    • Does it take 24 hours to activate? Could you use it on the same day?

      • going to use them soon, I just called the balance checking phone number and it says the full balance is available, so I assume they're all good to go (purchased at 9:35am)

  • Its been Removed from lasoo and aus post????

  • I saw many cards at my local PO on Tues. Will check if there's any left today or if they've been kept.

  • i can't find the listing, is it gone?

  • +1

it does seem to be removed. Damn.
    what's going on:?

  • whats at the bottom of page 5? dont see any mention of the gift cards!

  • +2

haha, ozbargained and it hasn't even started.

  • if it has been removed does that mean the cards are not for sale, surely not??? why would they advertise it and then when they get lots of interest remove it, what did they expect?

    • +4

We called it Dick's Myth for this kind of phenomenon…

  • Could someone post a screenshot of the catalogue?
There seems to be too much confusion lol

  • anyone got a physical copy in the mail?

  • I have the catalogue and just been to PO where there are big signs on the wall advertising this promotion. Bought some cards - nobody questioned start date!!

    • Bought cards with 20% discount?

      • Yes 20% off

        • which store?

        • which store?

        • +2

Kawana store but they only had $400 and no more out the back. Off to get an iPad for my sons birthday!

ps a big thank you to OP and Ozbargain this is a great deal for me!!!

  • No luck at Sydney CBD Post Office and Paddington Post Office. Say the sales starts next Monday!

  • Just went to PO in Brisbane City and bought $600, the shop assistant didn't even know it was on special and had to read the catalogue. She didn't read the starting date though. Took a while for the actual purchase as she had to scan each card individually and key in the promotional code for each card.
Does anyone know how long it takes for the giftcards to be activated? It says 24 hours on the receipt but I want to use them ASAP.

    • Dude, same here. I bought $1700 instead.

  • Hey guys. I got the discount today from Brisbane as well. They only have $50 though.

I was told it's AU Post who is giving all the discount not directly from TGG. Therefore, Conspiracy dose not stand.

    • +1

Why does AP do it? It's obviously loss making for them.

      • -1
        • We (tax payers) pay for the loss.
        • People may buy other products.

Okay… next one is probably why.

        • Australia Post probably bought them from TGG a while back. Not many people knew and even fewer people bought them. Instead of having them there, Australia Post is willing to make a loss to clear them out. 10% probably won't be enough to entice people. 20% - well… you can tell by the number of votes.

You can find really good deal at certain post offices from time to time (e.g. 3 LetraTag Labels for $5)

      • I don't know. She has to process the discount on every card which is really long considering i bought 34 cards. I was like you should really work out your system.
She replied they do have buttons for discounting but since this discount is giving out by the AP instead of the supplier, they have to do it in a different way, which is by refund as stated on the receipts.

Just bought $1,000 worth in Sydney CBD and paid $800

Also, while he guy was scanning every card and applying discount, I "borrowed" his copy of the catalogue

For all you OZbargainers, here it is -

    http://imageshack.us/f/600/auspost.jpg/

    Ok, u can ++++++++++ now : )

    • Which Sydney CBD PO? There are 9 POs in Sydney CBD!

      • World Square, the guy had to bring the vouchers to the back room for a few minutes and came back and processed it

        • Any left there?

        • +3

          Yeh, maybe 10 $100 and 20 $50

But make sure you choose the right person at the counter. One of the older ladies there looks quite stern

    • First! +1…DAMN IT!
Strange that they removed it from the online image when its already been printed.

    • +1

Nice. All I could get is this link, but the image is to small to read

  • No luck in Sydney CBD Oxford St PO. They won't sell it before Monday.

    • Same in ACT Maquire and Westfield Belconnen.

  • People who claimed to have bought them at the discounted rate… could you please post the receipt?

No point posting the catalogue, we know it is in the latest catalogue. Tried 2 POs here already. Both refused to honour it prior to the start date.

    • Not much point. I showed them the receipt earlier posted here. They still refused it.

If they don't wanna start selling before monday as the catalogue suggests your receipt won't change their mind.

  • Another user posted this in previous page

    http://upload.ozbargain.com/2012/04/25/8271_receipt.jpg

I cant scan my receipt in the office, I scanned the catalogue so it doesn't look like I'm doing personal stuff

  • South Melbourne P.O.
    $480 for $600 credit = win.

  • Could you purchase 5x$50 gift cards at $200, then use $200 worth of gift cards to purchase another $250 gift cards? Rise and repeat.

    • No cause the giftcards are for The Good Guys, whereas the sale is on at Australia Post.

    • Double post

      • cheerss!

        • +1

You Could Try and price match the gift cards at the good guys and see if that works.

  • -4

Looks like the above reported success stories are sufficient grounds for the AG department to toughen up their audit & risk management process at Australia Post. This is also a potential fraud risk if a staff member could process an unapproved discount. Just a thought. Still giving my +1 to this bargain though.

    • LOL or Troll…

  • sorry, a stupid question from me… the deals starts on 30 April to 13 May, but why do people intend to buy those cards so early? unless, people want to get some items from good guys which are on special now?

    • because (and most likely) there is limited supply and people want to get it before it runs out. also the fact they've removed it from the catalogue could be concerning

    • Assume people are worried that the deal may either:

      • sell out within minutes/hours of starting (i.e. run out of gift cards)
      • get cancelled quickly when they realise how popular it is and/or how much money they stand to lose

Hence the rush to secure the giftcards early.

    • +3

Because there will be none left on next Monday

    • Because you get them before Monday and post a comment here, people will give you positive votes. (Only Joking)

  • good

  • All related information has been totally deleted in POST catalogue, I guess promotion has been cancelled

    • +1

Good thing I grabbed a physical copy of their catalogue this morning!

    • Really? It still seems to be on the Lasoo version for me (although it could be just referencing my cache)

    • yeah, just loaded the australia post site, and opened the calalog… still there

  • +2

Mum just went to a local AusPost shop…Couldn't see any TGG gift card…Saw plenty of other ones…(she couldn't remember what they were)

Mum: Do you sell any Good Guys gift card?
AustPost: Its all there on the shelf…
Mum: Cannot find any. Do you have any at the back?
AustPost: Its all there on the shelf…
Mum: Did you actually sell that Gift card?
AustPost: Its all there on the shelf…

    HMMMMMMMM…….LOL!!!

    • So AustPost staff are nice to ozbargainers? haha.. That's good.
Normally, we get abused by staff. ;-)

    • Can confirm that it has been pulled temp from their online catalogue.

I spoke to a very nice manager at my PO about the gift cards and head office admits a 'mistake/confusion' with the starting dates and has informed all PO to pull the cards and confirm the sale of 20% starts on Monday.

Funny thing is, only the GG cards have been pulled and held back till Monday and not the Best Restaurants ones - seems like no one is rushing in on those :P

So come Monday it will officially begin.

      • Further to my response and just thinking of why they pulled it - it may be because someone on here mention 'taking/st**ling' the cards until Monday and then bringing them back to pay/activate them.

  • I am sure those TGG Gift cards will be on sale next Monday, as I saw the Promo Tags on the shelf saying "Spoil the Mom on Mother's Day and 20% off TGG and Rest Cards" which starts next Monday.

  • +1

Guys, I have used most of my gift cards. It's perfect. Got a SONY 46 FULL HD 3D LED TV for $800. The original price is pretty good for $1000 cheapest I have ever seen, after discount it's $800.

  • Slight problem with buying an iPad. GG don't have much if any stock. Well in NSW anyway all stores have orders in but next to no stock so it's wether you want to buy the cards and be patient until stores get stock? Hmmm a gamble if you subscribe to the theory they will go bust ;)

    • Did they give you the ETA?

      • According to most stores is they put in an order and Apple send them stock when they feel like it. So basically no ETA as they don't know?!

        • Yeah not really Good Guy's fault on this one, a lot of stores seem to have trouble keeping the new model in stock (esp. 16gig ones)

        • Are the likes of BigW and DSE facing the same shortage of stock? They have one of the cheapest New iPads in the market.

  • Just bought 10*$50 at Post Office Square GPO in Brisbane. He (Peter) checked the catalogue (not the date) had heard it discussed between staff and did the deal no questions.

Tedious how they have to key each one with a discount reason (AusPost staff policy) but well worth it for the deal.

    They have 30-35 $50 left.

    • Maybe not best to name him

      • +2

Yeah that's not his real name. Real name was Susan.

        • Susan "Peter" Boyle

  • Bought some cards this morning but they aren't activated. How long from buying till activation?

    • They told me 24 hours. Is there a way to confirm they are activated?

  • Sorry double post…

  • +1

Secured $2450 today.. none left at Highpoint or Sunshine, VIC

    • +5

Just out of interest - how long was your receipt - it must have been a metre?

      • yes long.. broken up in 3 receipts

    • $2450? what are u buying? the whole store? :P

      • +1

whole store or a miele washing machine.. i'm yet to decide

  • +2

Bought 5 x $100 cards on Tues - just used them this morning on a Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7.

Store matched their on-line price (one would hope) - in store $499, online $476
I didn't try any further discount as I was using the cards.
    Cost $476
After 20% discount (thanks Aus Post) $380
I'm able to claim the GST back as for business (thanks ATO)- effectively $337.50

I also bought another $1200 at Aspley (Brisbane) - will give the missus a few for Mother's Day

    • +1

I also bought another $1200 at Aspley (Brisbane) - will give the missus a few for Mother's Day

      Your missus is your mother???

OzB has turned into OzBold and the Beautiful :P

      • his missus can't be a mother to his kids?

        • Let's hope his missus is the mother.

Best get her tested: you can never be too careful.

      • +1

My 7 year son will give them (my mother passed away a few years ago)

  • how did you guys manage to purchase early?

went to two A-Posts in Sydney, and both times the managers would not sell until Monday. They did reserve them for me however :)

    • Same here, been to my local one, and almost got it till they spotted the date, and refuse to sell it till monday, even thou i mention others were selling it.

  • Hmmm local PO said they're not a corporate PO do they're not doing the 20% off…anyone else had this experience?

    • +1

Yep. Went to Browns Plains PO and they said they didn't know anything about it, nor did they have any of the catalogues.

Edit: The lady did say they were a privately owned PO and that I should try a Corporate PO.

      • How do we find corporate POs? Guess I'll check google :)
