    Bloody hell, the sheer number of people here unable to read is shocking.

    If you bought it and didn’t get the voucher, you didn’t get ‘scammed’. You’ll still get the cashback. Only difference is that instead of getting a giftcard, you got entered into the draw.

    So far so good experience with SB, so trusted this company,
    Didn't realize they can do such tricks to get $5 bucks out of everyone, yes it will be paid back later, but then no point of this exercise
    order completed, received confirmation, money deducted, but no voucher… now have to wait to get your money back.

    Weird, bought and got the voucher. Shows up in my purchases originally and I added to my preezee wallet but now checking it has gone from my purchase on the SB app ?

      Did you tap "Mark Voucher as used?" It may dissapear from your "Deal Purchases" if you enabled the "Show available only" flag on the app.

      It has dissapeared on mine but I've already stored the voucher on Prezzee wallet and then used it for Amazon.

    This is completely unfair and very confusing.
    Like most people, I tried multiple times at 3:14pm with multiple errors and technical issues at YOUR end all along until 3.18pm where I finally got one, I thought, with confirmation email at 3:18pm.

    I saw confirmation email and the voucher in my purchases in app and thought it was ok.

    Purchased Date 14 Mar 2022, 3:18PM

    Then checking comments later here, I realise people had to click on purchased voucher to see you've got nothing… WTF?
    The voucher now show sold out but it was not when purchased it or when I received confirmation email so how does this work?
    At what time this was actually sold out?
    Do you have to open voucher once purchased to actually get it?
    Why app or confirmation email does not say it is sold out before (or even after) purchase?
    Very very disappointed!

          • I explained the setup of this promo in the comment, it had to go through as a transaction in order to register the competition entry.

            I mean do you need to open voucher once purchased to get 1 of the 1000 available $5 vouchers?
            Because it was not sold out once I purchased $5 voucher, it only shows as sold out now I check it 2 hours later (and actually try to open it to get voucher code).

              @Soulsnake: No you do not, only the first 1,000 would've recieved a voucher that can be viewed.
              The remaining users received the voucher entry to the competition which will also be 100% refunded as Cashback.

                You should probably say only the first 1,000 that can luckily buy voucher without server errors would've received a voucher that can be viewed to be fair.
                I personally tried for 10+ times since 3:14pm because of server errors to finally get one at 3:18pm that is sold out…

                Have someone got a $5 valid voucher (you can use) after 3:18pm?
                My email confirmation was sent at 3:18:31pm and I did not get one (sold out).

    Hi all, sorry for the delayed response - it's been an extremely busy day and I only managed to take a break not too long ago.

    I'm going to provide one response here as it's not practical for me to go through and type out an individual responsible for every single comment.
    I'll try to cover everything I can here, but be sure to reach out to me if I miss anything or if you have any further questions.

    1. Was this a scam?
      No.
      This is absurd, the promotion stipulated that the first 1,000 users would receive the Gift Card & the subsequent purchases would be eligible for a raffle entry.
      I apologise if you missed this info or if it wasn't made abundantly clear. We tried our best to ensure it was made clear how the promo would work.

    2. Why was the promo run in this manner?
      We ran a similar promo on Black Friday last year which received a lot of criticism for the inability to transact due to a server overload.
      This was due to our system allocating the 2,000 purchases whilst also dealing with an overwhelming number of failed transactions.
      So to avoid this, we thought that adding additional vouchers which act as an entry to the giveaway would avoid the overload our system encountered last time.

    3. Why did the Competition Entry cost $5 and will I get my money back?
      Due to the nature of our vouchers setup, the system requires a transaction (minimum of $0.50) to credit a user a voucher.
      As mentioned in the last answer, we set these entries up as vouchers to alleviate the system overload.
      We could not set these entries up as $0.50 and the main vouchers as $5 as they all pull from the same sheet and are required to be the same value.
      This is the same mechanic we've used to run previous competitions where you purchase an entry & receive 100% Cashback.
      Yes you will receive your $5 back as Cashback within a week, the same length of time it takes our typical Gift Card Cashback to become redeemable.

    4. Why doesn't the page update to show "Sold Out" instantly?
      Apps & Websites experience "Caching" whenever a banner/button is auto-updated.
      The time it takes for a new banner/button to Cach can depend on several things. Generally, when there is a lot of system activity it'll take longer than usual.
      We had our banners scheduled to auto-update once the stock was sold out, but this took a few minutes to update due to the activity going on.

    5. Why don't you just open this up to more have more redemptions?
      Earlier in this post I made mention of how budgeting works at ShopBack.
      Please refer to this comment if you haven't already.

    6. Why did it say "You got 100% Cashback" when I only got an entry to the Competition?
      This was to reassure you that you'll receive 100% Cashback regardless of the Voucher being a Gift Card or a Competition Entry.
      This is another minor limitation of the system where we cannot individually name each Voucher under a single listing, we needed an overarching name that covered both sides.
      I apologise for any confusion caused by this.

    7. Should this have been posted as a Competition, not a Deal?
      No, it was a deal with a Competition attached to the end of it.
      Just because you missed out, it doesn't mean this was a competition.
      I'm sorry if you disagree with this, but I'm sure the OzB mods would've removed this Deal if they felt otherwise.

    Really disappointed with how this deal was run. Normally a fan of SB deals but this was unfair and poorly executed. Ran into server issues right at 3.14 on the dot, then finally went through with a '100% cashback' message only to find out it was an entry into a competition? Would rather no entry and just be given a message that the gift cards had run out. So sad to be using my first ever neg for a deal on this

    Rules were (fairly) clear, but the whole thing was just not cool, to pay $5 (yes its only $5 and you get it back later, but still annoying) for pretty much nothing, with no option to opt out once the quota was up. Will definitely not participate in anything similar ever again.

    I’ve gotten a $5 giftcard. Maybe some of those 1000 OzB who got the giftcard can post here that they’ve gotten it ? At least we can see that a lot of people got it and this is not a scam…. Right now only like 20 (?) people said they’ve gotten it out of the 1000….so hmm…. But be sure to check that you’ve actually gotten a giftcard and not an entry to lucky draw…

          Keep in mind ShopBack also now have a large following in their Facebook Group, and I am sure the deal would have been advertised in their daily email newsletters.. wouldn’t just be OzB users vying for the deal.

          I also had server busy errors three times and then when it finally went through got a competition entry :)

      I got a gift card and so did my partner, the transaction didnt go through for about 8 times, then finally worked by 3.16pm. Gift cards have already been swapped and redeemed to my amazon account. From the comments though, certainly doesnt seem like even 100 of us from here got one

    When the 1000 limit was reached, SB should NOT have allowed any more purchases. Who sells out of stock items? Unless it's obviously back ordered. I pay $5 for apples and SB takes my money, tells me my order is complete, gives me a receipt and when I open the receipt I am told apples are out of stock. They will refund my $5 in one weeks time and put me in a draw to win 314 apples. As others have mentioned, poorly planned and executed by SB. OR who knows it was smartly planned and well executed! They take $5 from my card, keep it for 1 week, earn interest and then refund $5 after a week. I wouldn't even call it a competition. Looks like hardly any one won. You would have better chances of winning the Powerball.

      Or good promotion from SB's perspective, who apparently taking advantage of human nature? Who doesn't like free money. If this is not misleading then I don't know what is. What they really shouldn't do is to display "you have got 100% cashback for this purchase" message on the same screen of swipe to pay. The correct message should be "you have got 100% cash back or a chance to win $314 for theis purchase". I am sure if the message is displayed this way some of us wouldn't have tried many times to pay experiencing all sort of errors before payment went through. After all payment were meant to go through so that they take our money then return it as cash back which we can't withdraw unless we have more than $10, not that thus is a problem for me

      Also, a family member made the purchase about 10 minutes later than me and got the voucher.

      I am not upset but really disappointed at how SB run a promotion in such a manner especially rep didn't make it more clear here on ozbargain.

    I am one of the lucky few to score a $5 GC's earlier today at 3:15 pm. Initially I was shown a blank page with a 'Please wait…' dialog for what seemed like an eternity. Was just about to close and reopen the app when the gift card page finally loaded. When trying to pay I got another 'Please wait…' so thought game over. But despite this I did receive a $5 gift card.

    Maybe for next year ShopBack could consider having a $3.14 bonus cashback challenge (with each slot allocated beforehand) for GC purchases on 14/03. Yes that would mean less than 100% cashback but also a chance for more people to share in the rewards pool. Just an idea that could potentially spread out the server load a bit from not having everyone attempting to order gift cards at the same time.

        Yes. What I am suggesting is basically a repeat of ShopBack's $2 gift card challenge from 8 March (spend $5+, get $2), but with the reward amount boosted to $3.14. After activating the challenge someone would proceed to buy a gift card (such as $5, $10, etc) in order to complete the challenge requirement. At least this way everyone would know whether or not they secured a challenge spot before attempting to make a purchase.

      The only thing you missed is paying SB $5 so they can return it to you one week later in the form of cashback 😂 Some of us in Victoria took time out on a public holiday and spent a good couple of minutes trying to fight ShopBack's outdated technology so that we could pay them $5 for an entry to win $314.00. I'd be happy if I were you 😉

        BTW I was planning to get the $5 card if I remembered but I wasn't bitter that I missed it, as I know even if I have my phone in front of me at 3:14pm, I felt I probably wouldn't be able to compete with the pros.
