This is insane right? $1050 for an OLED?
    Must buy?

    • Yup. I thought the previous deal was must buy. Only two left…

  • Seems oddly cheap for 48" OLED

    • +1

This uses the LG C1 panel. LG is about to release the C2. Good likelihood to expect a new version of this screen and therefore they might be clearing stock.

      • While true the C1 is better overall (a bit brighter, less aggressive auto brightness, smart TV features, better image upscaler, proper HDMI 2.1 on PS5, slightly reduced burn in risk, performs ever so slightly better in response/input time). However, the FO48U has DP which is great if you want 4K 120Hz on an older GPU (anything before RTX 3000 or RX 6000) and a KVM switch which is great if you use two computers on the same display.

  • +5

This seems really good. Same panel as lg c1 Ike’s right?

    • +2

The Gigabyte AORUS FO48U is an amazing gaming monitor that delivers exceptional picture quality and a responsive gaming experience. The OLED panel delivers inky blacks with perfect black uniformity, but there are some distracting issues with dimming, and there's a possibility of permanent burn-in. There aren't many OLED monitors available, but we've also tested two LG TVs as monitors, the LG 48 C1 OLED and the LG 48 CX OLED, and both of them are better choices overall than the Gigabyte.

      • +8

This is nearly half the price of the C1 though and is built to be a monitor rather than a TV.

        • +1

Oh I’m with you, definitely worth the price. Just noting not quite the same as the C1 although identical panels.

        • Seems like it's not doing a good job at that from ratings review. Some color fringing around texts, aggressive reduction in brightness from static images and possible image burn.

      • +3

So not the best of its class but that can be forgiven at this price.
A good buy if you are willing to accept drawbacks of OLED technology

        • What are the drawbacks friend?

          • @AussieMark: Picture burn in - display the same thing (for example, the windows taskbar), an outline of it will be visible when something else is displayed. The longer the image is kept there, the more visible it will become
You have to try minimise displaying the same image too long to avoid it

  • Buy as a tv?

    • No tuner

      • +2

I would consider that a desired feature at this point, wouldn't go near free to air tv with a 48" oled.

    • +16

come on man why watch tv when you have the internet this is 2022 lol

      • +1

Meant more any downside to using with a crhomecast or fire stick

It looks like doesn't do certain refresh rates for tv based on some reviews

      • It's nice to have streaming apps built into the TV though. No need to hook up anything to get them.

    • Yeah i think with google tv and hub or nvidia shield work sweet!

  • +1

I'd grab it if it wasn't for having to worry about burn-in.

    • that's exactly what I worried about this monitor, plus pathetic gigabyte warranty and limited HDMI bandwidth….

    • I had the 48" but moved to the 43" version due to the 48" been alittle to big for my space.

No issues with burn in what so ever.

      • +4

        The 43" isn't OLED. It's a VA panel.

        • +2

^ Yep, there is no 43" OLED yet in the market. LG is making 42" panels, but they're not out yet. Sorry to tell you @hsjyes but that screen will never burn-in, which is great. But it's VA panel, nowhere near the quality of the OLED. They're miles apart.

          • @ThatsCheap: Yup, I know, I have on Oled also :)

            • @hsjyes: I have an LG C7 OLED with burn-in from use as a TV. I now use it as a monitor but have set the taskbar to dim unless mouseovered.

              • @eug: Yeah, the tech has advanced a lot since the C7 days. These days the risk of burn-in is much less. But if you're using it as a desktop monitor, big difference, risk of burn-in is still there on desktop content since there is a lot of static use cases. However it can be mitigated by not forcing max brightness and using more conservative brightness levels and doing things such as hiding the taskbar for example.

                • @ThatsCheap: Yeah, for TV use I wouldn't worry too much about burn-in nowadays. But looking at my monitor use I feel like I'd have to worry about it too much with current technology. ABL looks like it could be annoying, but not sure how bad it is in reality. Maybe Samsung's QD OLED will be better. It'll be a long time till it gets this cheap though!

              • @eug: How do you do that if you don't mind me asking? (settint the taskbar to dim unless mousecovered I mean). My google-fu is failing me

    • You don’t have to worry about it.

  • +2

    Oos

  • How is the warranty with Gigabyte?

  • +1

dont worry anymore - sold out

    • +2

      Back in stock.

If sold out, keep checking back. Stock levels generally updated within 10 minutes of each sale.

      • +4

Noticed this with scorptec ebay listings
Probably so it always looks like they’re running out and make you more likely to buy it out of FOMO

  • My office isnt big enough to give enough space to sit 10ft back to get the most out of it LOL

  • +3

You don't need thr afterpay tag.

    • You've caught me copying the title from the other deal.

      Updated. Thanks!

  • +2

Could you use this as a TV?

I guess maybe no aerial port but I don't want free to air anyway.

    • +1

If you connect a media box or some other output device to it there shouldn't be a problem

  • -5

How exactly do you game on a monitor this big

    I normally use 13 inch

    • +17

      13 inch monitor?
What is this? A monitor for ants?

      • -4

Yeah but if you bring it close to your face it's as bit as a 50 inch tv from far away

Or maybe even try VR headset lol then the screen is as big as your eyes can go

  • Great deal but I'm on a 3060. Oh well.

    • -1

Sorry but what's that got to do with it? Is it not strong enough. My laptop is 3080. Is that good?

      • Not strong enough to play the latest games at 4k with high frame rate. My 3060.

        • -1

Ah thanks. Just got my laptop so haven't tried it yet. Got the 3080 omen

        • +1

If you're spending this amount of kit on a display, it's with the expectation you'd upgrade your devices over years to eventually get the full capability out of it, in my view!

          • @Doy: You got it backwards. You should already have the devices powerful enough to enjoy this monitor.

  • Great deal! Thanks for posting!

  • Can I use this for watching Netflix etc ?

Or is it not good for movies

    • +1

Not as bright for movies in well lite room.
Good if you have a darker room.

Also limited HDMI bandwidth, so not great for PS5.

    • +1

It's a computer monitor, it doesn't have inbuilt operating system like a tv, but you can buy something that will run Netflix, like a fire stick 4k, or apple tv, or NVIDIA shield, or Google tv chromecast

    • This is basically as good as it gets for movies.

  • any good for graphic design purpose?

  • Doh had one in cart and removed it to try to get the shopback cash back lol

    Couldn't add it back

  • According to reviews this monitor has an auto dimming feature than can't be disabled, anything with a white background will be a dull grey and scrolling will cause the brightness to flicker depending on the background.

    • True of any OLED including the brand new qd-oled ones.

LG one is brighter though and has access to the service menu where you can tweak some of the ABL and auto-dimming related settings.

    • +1

After I updated firmware and changed some settings found on rtings.com this issue isn't that bad.
After using it all day for work and some games the monitor is awesome. I am terrified of burn in though.

  • Love LG oleds and grabbed the 48" last week but at this price this one definitely seems worth a look in, especially if you don't need the tv features

  • +1

I am trying to refresh every ten seconds

I want you bad inside my home

    • +4

      Things I wish she said

  • I need an app to auto refresh and buy….my finger tired

  • Anyone wanna go halvies

  • Still in stock on scorptec website please come to eBay!!!

    • +2

For those that didn’t know, scorptec are doing free delivery for orders over $200 so this qualifies. 1.4% ShopBack means $1083.6 if it doesn’t come back onto eBay!

  • At what point does a monitor become a TV?

    • When it has a tuner and speakers.

      • Yeah that makes sense. Can't remember the last time i've used the tuner in my TV though. This monitor is huge!

  • +1

Is this (price)a sign of things to come?

  • +2

I got one on impulse. Now freaking out about using it as I do office work more than game. However it seems to have both in-built speakers and audio out capability for a soundbar or such, so worst case I start using it as a TV with a chromecast plugged in…(which is possible, right?)

    • +2

Hehe exact same boat as you. Yep just plug a Chromecast in and away you go!

      • +1

Phew! So actually a really cheap 48 inch OLED TV if it doesn't work out as a monitor :)

  • -1

    What a deal, congrats buyers!

  • It seems to be eventually gone on eBay.

  • +5
  • +1

If anyone still wants one, noticed it is still in stock at Mwave for $1099. Not quite as good a price but still pretty sharp https://www.mwave.com.au/product/gigabyte-aorus-fo48u-48-4k-…

  • This or wait for 48" C2?

    • +1

C2 will be double this price on launch. Whether the extra features are worth the extra grand or so only you can decide for yourself.

      • yeah, the 120hz limitation probably isn't great. I need it for both PC and PS5 gaming, would C2 be better?

        • I feel ya. I have the 240hz Samsung G7. I would love the 4K OLED screen but that refresh rate…

        • Hey mate, like I said only you can decide for yourself. Here's the HU reviews for the C1 & the GB

          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qtve0u3GJ9Y

          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UniOmgwna7M

I've got a C1 48" I picked up for $1900 last June and would happily pay that amount for one all over again. If both were priced within a few hundred bucks of the other I'd pick the C1 every day of the week, but an OLED display for $1050/$1099 is insane, if the GB had been available at this price last year I may have opted for it instead. Another point is that the GB at $1.1k still shits all over most other 4K monitors at the same price point so if comparing to other pc monitors it's a no brainer of a purchase, whack a firestick 4K or chromecast in there and you've got yourself a neat little second oled tv too.

edit: I don't expect the GB will stay in stock for much longer as that price for an OLED screen is kinda insane. Another consideration re the no 4K@120fps thingy that everyone is hung up on is that it most likely will not matter for any AAA titles on the PS5, you're lucky if the performance mode can maintain 60fps most times.

  • +2

Back instock for anyone looking, also SAVEAPRIL gets you $100 off

    • +1

      Updated. Thanks!

      • Damn I was too late again - begin the spam refreshing.

  • +1

Awesome, got one .. thanks op.
    Now I have a 43" and a 48"..

  • Damn, missed this one. Hopefully other stores do the same.

  • Damn so tempting to upgrade my 38wn95-c which is a nano-ips 3840x1600 like the alienware one, same oanel. Even with two stuck green pixels can probs get $800 for it. But I recently got a cool monitor arm for it and this 48" beast wouldn't be held by any monitor arm
