Looks like a good phone for the price.

JB Hi-fi is currently running $400 Trade-in coupon for a new OPPO Find X5 range.

You can stack the deal with $40 Zip Cashback (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/696831) and some discounted gift cards (e.g. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/696432).

Good luck!

UPD: How it all works..

  1. Click on the Trade In banner in the listing, you'll be redirected to JB HiFi trade on website.
  2. If your device is eligible for trade in and has a value greater than $10 you can continue
  3. Once you completed the trade in, you'll get 2 emails:
    • with Jb Hifi gift card for the trade in value, can be used for everything in JB HiFi
    • an email offering to redeem a $400 coupon code for OPPO Find X5 range - click on it and you'll get the coupon
  4. When checking out an OPPO Find X5 phone, apply the coupon and the price will be reduced by $400 (you can use your trade-in gift card for payment too)

      Good kid, now find X5

If my phone had any trade-in value I wouldn't want a new phone.

    • +1

you don't have to trade-in, just get the coupon :)

      • so non existent trade-in to get the coupon, apply it at checkout and away we go??

      • How u get the coupon without actually trade in something?

        • you can take your (or your family) trade-able phone/ipad/macbook, apply for the trade in and will get a gift card for it instantly as well as the coupon. If you don't post the device in 7 days, the trade-in amount will be charged from your credit card. But not the coupon. There was a thread about it earlier https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/693117

@Cupa Bundy Drinker: So…you could get $10 trade in value (and charged to your credit card) and yet get a $400 gift voucher? That's brilliant

          • @Cupa Bundy Drinker: So you take the device in, and the value of the coupon is what? And how does it relate to the value of the trade in offered?
I just tried my wife's iPhone 12 pro which was a trade in value $730 in the online evaluation thing.

Does this only work in store?

Even reading through the comments in the other post, I am so confused about how this works.

            • @Flyerone: Too late to edit but never mind, it was a bit of mucking around but I got it done. Cheers.

          • @Cupa Bundy Drinker: does that affect your credit score though?

          • @Cupa Bundy Drinker: The FAQ says;

Trade-in orders that are cancelled, may also mean coupon cancellation.
            $400 OFF
            OPPO FIND X5 range

            Coupon offer ends 05 /05 /22 11:30pm AEST

Coupon is redeemable until 12/05/22 11:59pm AEST.

            • So not clear if the coupon value will get cancelled if you don't post your phone?
        • +1

What proof is required that you have device X to trade? Especially if you dont plan to post it in?
EDIT: I see they want the IMEI number from the phone.

Its a regular thing in the US, consumers get incredible trade in deals for say a Samsung S21, that they can trade in for an S22. I don't really understand , the incremental improvement is negligible. I just went from a Galaxy Note9 to a Galaxy S22u (that's arguably 4 generations, as there was no Note 21) and the improvement is a somewhat better camera. The US also has comparatively dirt cheap battery replacements, I asked at 2 places to replace the battery in my Note 9 here,$275- $300 was the price I was given. Often in the US it will be $50-$75

      • +3

Other day I went to a Samsung shop to replace cracked screen on my wife's Galaxy S8. I was told to prepare that all the data will be removed. The phone was fixed in a couple of hours (the price was the best too, btw) and they told me that replaced the battery too. By my observations, I received a new phone with only the old back cover (where it has IMEI engraved).

        • The only Samsung stores around are in Sydney CBD and Parramatta afaik, did you go all the way there from Gosford?

        • How much was it?

        • Samsung replaced my battery too when replacing my s9 cracked screen years back..

  • +7

hmm, 5G , amoled 6.4”, current model , australian stock and warranty, for $400, might need to check it out

    • +7

Not to forget the underrated supervooc charger which you get free with the phone unlike other brands.

    • +5

If it didn't have a mediatek processor I'd probably buy it

      • Mediatek soc are getting really competitive / on par with Qualcomm stuff in feature set and performance. For the savings in $ I would give it a try.

        • For something I rely on every day and only replace every couple of years, I'm not going to bother. There's a wealth of other good affordable phones.

  • +7

Oppo find is one of the few flagships that still come with entire package. Not just the phone. With my X3 Neo, I got the phone, silicon case, USBC earphones and above all a 65W supervooc charger. The charger itself is a great value for money. I just charge my phone while I take shower in the morning and it is 100% by the time I finish.

    • +1

It seem the package missing earphones this time

      Phone x 1
      USB Cable x 1
      Charger x 1
      SIM Ejector Tool x 1
      Protective Case x 1
      Quick Start Guide x 1
      Warranty Card x 1

      • soon you will have to buy phone without sim tray and button as these will be sold separately..

        • You maybe right, as there is a movement towards eSIM https://www.canstarblue.com.au/phone/esim-plans-providers/

        • +4

          don't give Apple ideas

        • To be honest I find selling phones without chargers quite reasonable (except when the charger is included as a real feature like here). It's been a long way from proprietary chargers for each mobile phone brands (and often models) to USB-C everywhere. Why would we need more USB-C chargers if we have them everywhere - "old" phone ones, laptop's, tablets.

          • +1

@Cupa Bundy Drinker: Some people buy new phones every 5 to 10 years. So it's not unreasonable for the charger to be included especially when the device is marketed as being a fast charge.

            • +1

@Caped Baldy: Yes, they will pay extra $25 for a charger, or maybe decide to invest in a wireless one.
I want to believe that reusing my old charger (I would reuse it anyway, as don't want to bother with trying to change it in a power point behind my bed) saves me a couple of bucks and makes this world slightly cleaner.

              • @Cupa Bundy Drinker: It does not make the world cleaner because People have to go but charges which come in more packaging in plastic than if it was inclusive in the phone box.

          • @Cupa Bundy Drinker: If the phone is >$200 you need to include the charger. New charges often charge quicker than old ones that i use. Plus i am not buying a charger ontop of inflated phone price.

    Anti-Peeping for Notifications
Don’t worry about people looking over your shoulder on a crowded train — notifications are retracted once it detects others are looking at your screen.

This is an interesting feature to see how they pull off

    • +6

Looks like the phone peeps around itself.

    • +1

      i was curious as well.
there is a youtube video that demonstrate the feature

How exactly do you get the trade in coupon if you don't need to trade in a phone?

    • you can take your (or your family) trade-able phone/ipad/macbook, apply for the trade in and will get a gift card for it instantly as well as the coupon. If you don't post the device in 7 days, the trade-in amount will be charged from your credit card. But not the coupon. There was a thread about it earlier https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/693117

aside from the trade in bonus is there any reason why you would buy this over something like the Poco X4 Pro ($~330) which seems to have mostly all around better specs including SD.

    • Where can you get a Poco X4 Pro 256GB for $330?

      • I got that price from previous ozb deals

        • Not the 256GB version though? Only been deals for the 128GB in that price range.

    • Yes, this one is not a Xiaomi.

      Not everything is specs.

      • I bought my oppo x2 find neo for less than this and looks much better on paper for half the price

        • x2 neo better than x5 lite ?

          $199 ?

      • This. But if we were to focus on specs:

        Xiaomis don't have USB 3
They use low audio bitrates for recorded video

I need to find a deal on the standard x5, the RRP of $1399 is pretty steep even with the $400 voucher

    • What the biggest differences between standard and lite?

      • +6

Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 vs Mediatek Dimensity 900
ColorOS 12.1 (based on Android 12) vs 12 (Android 11)
        120hz vs 90hz refresh rate
        80w vs 65w supervooc
30w airvooc (lite has no wireless charging)
Upgraded ultrawide + additional optical zoom camera
        Esim
        IP54 rating vs not rated
Reverse wireless charging 10W vs none
        4800mah vs 4500mah battery
Option for 12GB ram vs 8GB
No headphone jack, no SD card (vs X5 lite)

There's probably more but that's the main differences

  • Redmi K50 is the best.

    • +1

How is it better than this phone (serious question)?

      • +1

https://www.gsmarena.com/xiaomi_redmi_k50-11430.php, if no coupon for OPPO one, Redmi is much cheaper, and with new MTK soc, 2k screen, 5500 battery. I am using it now, more than happy, but have to say, camera is not that good.

        • +1

No warranty, and no VoLTE/VoWiFi on Telstra tho'

  • If I was to trade in my pixel 5 it comes up as $250 trade in value. So would I get $250 + $400 coupon?

    • +1

You'll get $250 JB HiFi gift card (you can use it for any purchases in JB HiFi) and a coupon code for $400 discount for OPPO Find X5 range (can be used only on them),

  • The trade in voucher value is UP TO $400… As my galaxy S7 is valued as $0

    • +2

No, there are two different things. As soon as your device gets $10 or more, you'll receive $400 coupon code too.

      • Thanks, good to know about this information

  • Dimensity 900 - apparently quite good(?!) Wish it was Dimensity 9000 though

    • +1

it's intensity of a dimension, the higher the dimensity the more intense the dimension is going to be. Apparently in the future they will have the dimensity high enough that you will be able to use the phone to communicate inter-dimensional

    No upgrade for me

  • Oppo after sale service is a pain!
I pre-ordered this phone 2 more weeks ago, and redeemed free earbuds marked value AUD 299 from Oppo website. Unfortunately the earbuds case indicator doesn't work properly before I use it. I asked Oppo to change a new one for me, Oppo only allows me to send it back for repair. And the repair web can't submit the request after 10 more times trying. Even the customer service man in the phone can't submit the request in his computer.
I sent out 4 emails and called once, in the end 5th customer service gave me a new link to lodge the repairing request .

It could be a good phone, but fingers across no need customer service involved.

  • How many years do these bad boys get software updates

    • -2

      Currently it is Android 11

    • +1

3 years of Android updates and 4 years security updates
Find X5 Lite is running ColorOS 12 currently based on Android 11 and Find X5 and X5 Pro running 12.1 based on Android 12.

So one should expect it to receive Android 14.

  • is the code applicable on any other Oppo devices?

  • +2

Hmmm, would this be worth it for this price over the upcoming Pixel 6a? (likely 600-700aud)

  • +1

it rejects my device's serial number. anyone know what to do about that?

    • You may have messed up with the model number. Or a typo.

      • nope, everything is right. oh well.

    • Maybe because your phone is an overseas version/model?

      • nope, bought it from bing lee (its a samsung tablet). i double and triple checked the serial and its right (the 0 could be an O, tried both, but the rest of the characters are not ambigious). getting the model and serial number from the device itself to be sure.

        • You sure they even accept tablets as trade-in for phones?

          • @MiscOzB: yeah. they give a price of $150is for mine just wont accept the serial

    • +1

Same, I decided to buy this phone but with the trade in it says my serial number is invalid even though I copied it directly from the device ( the device was from Good Guys so it's Aus stock)
